unrelated discussion about WLM
* Comment I Participated in the WLM with more than 10 pictures like this image. but I wonder why some weak pictures like this picture should selected as 4th picture and all of my pictures expect one of them should removed. The name of the photographer of 4th picture is a site and this is very easy to find for everyone. the 7th picture of Iran WLM was taken from Laft village and this village not in Iran's monuments list. .The 9th picture of Iran WLM is just a Geological phenomenon and obviously not a historical monument made by human. The 10th picture of Iran WLM is just taken from a normal wooden bridge and this bridge is not in the Iran's monuments list too. 4 picture from 10, featured wrongly. how can this possible????!!!!! Diego Delso Has been introduced as one of the judges and Simultaneous he has participated at Portugal and Germany WLM. How can this possible? This is against the law of WLM. I want to rejudging with fare and justice. These kinds of behaviors and judgments just Reduces WLM and wikipedia credit and can Discourage participant for sharing their images.--Amir Pashaei (talk) 07:35, 9 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  •  Comment Hi Amir, it is not against any rules or laws of WLM for someone to be a judge in one country and participate with photos in other countries. The only thing that should not be done, is to be a judge in the same country you participate in. Many the photographers here at FPC have done the same thing as Diego Delso. I was a judge for Bangladesh at the same time as I participated in Sweden. As for your other comments about the quality of the photos that win WLM in different countries, you are only saying what almost all of us at FPC have said at one time or other. In this worldwide competition, all juries are made up of non-professional volunteers, a lot of them are not photographers or people who know about copyright for images. There are mistakes and bad decisions made every year in WLM, and we try to fix some of them when they are discovered. However, this nomination page is not the right place to discuss such issues. If you want to continue this discussion, please do so on Commons talk:Featured picture candidates or Commons talk:Wiki Loves Monuments. WLM is a fun but flawed competition and the main reason for it is to get free photos of places around the world for educational sites like Wikipedia and other. That is why most of us participate in it; winning and getting prizes is not very important. --Cart (talk) 10:22, 9 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Agree with cart, and please stop writing this in each of your nominations -- this is definitely not the right place to discuss WLM. My purely private opinion: I for myself have -- for several good reasons -- discontinued any participation in WLx with my pictures, most likely for ever, and would friendly advice the same to you. But my motivation in the past were not the prizes. --A.Savin 11:10, 9 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • @W.carter: , @A.Savin: , I have not received the answer to my question yet. I asked the Iran organizer Mr Salak and he didn't know about it.I mailed to organizer too and I'm waiting for the answer. anyway I think justice and fairness is more important than the prize.I shared a lot of pictures in Wikimedia before the WLM. and that's because prize isn't important to me.--Amir Pashaei (talk) 11:43, 9 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • We should probably ping Poco a poco if we are going to mention him. It's worth remembering that all organizers and juries are volunteers, too, so results will vary. As an aside, it's surprisingly difficult to figure out who the overall WLM organizers are... — Rhododendrites talk18:18, 9 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Hi all. Please see my response to a similar complaint raised by Amirpashaei. I also want to apologize to Poco a poco in case they read this page. I find calling out their name very disturbing and I appreciate the tone of the rest of the messages on this thread to help with deescalation. We are volunteers for a free knowledge mission and the way we show up for each other and towards one another matters. Thank you! --LilyOfTheWest (talk) 06:29, 10 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
