Hi. Did you close "all" the DRs under Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by Masalli qasimli? --E4024 (talk) 15:36, 18 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@E4024: Whoops, thanks for spotting that. I did not see the previous request. I have gone and closed it. Jon Kolbert (talk) 15:57, 18 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there! Responded to your alert via email regarding Written Permission for Copyright. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Thesocialgroup (talk • contribs) 01:18, 23 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

If you revert saying it's DM, please add the De minimis template. I have altered the categories and description, if the rename is approved a DM claim could be considered reasonable. The way the page looked when the original DR was started a DM claim wasn't reasonable. Your revert actually just brings back doubts over copyright, meaning the rename will possibly be denied. And without rename it may not be considered DM, resulting in possible deletion. - Alexis Jazz 16:24, 28 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Alexis Jazz: The title of the file has nothing to do with whether a not a copyrighted element of an image is de minimis or not. Jon Kolbert (talk) 16:36, 28 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Policy guideline: "X is referenced in the filename" - Alexis Jazz 16:38, 28 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Did not know you are an administrator. (and can move files) Okay. Thanks! - Alexis Jazz 16:46, 28 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
(Edit conflict) @Alexis Jazz: right, that's precisely why it's just a guideline. There are much higher quality photos of this person, and it's pretty clear that the sole purpose of this image is not to illustrate the artist. The title of a file may be an indication of what the file's really depicting not complying to de minimis guidelines, but is not in itself a violation. I've gone ahead and moved it to a better name. Cheers. Jon Kolbert (talk) 16:48, 28 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
One more note about this case. Storkk is not very happy you didn't leave a redirect when moving the file because this resulted in a redlink in a DR that didn't result in deletion. My personal opinion is also that when moving a file that has been here for over a year, it's probably best to leave a redirect. Even when not in use, there could be external websites linking to the file. This is just to notify you, if you prefer moving without leaving a redirect I won't argue with you about that. There are arguments for not leaving a redirect as well. Thanks for your help with that file. :-) - Alexis Jazz 14:47, 2 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Jon, did you already notice this? Not a big issue but just a bit inconvenient if one searches the SBL log... Best, --Achim (talk) 20:02, 14 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Achim55: I did not know of that before, no. I have since removed most of the Amazon links from those affected files, but I also was unable to edit File:20020109_Yoo_Delahunty_Geneva_Convention_memo.pdf to change archive.org to HTTPS, because I was hitting the blacklist. Is there any way for admins to temporarily bypass the blacklist? Thanks, Jon Kolbert (talk) 20:19, 14 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Worms Head/Worm's Head

[edit]

I notice you recently renamed a bunch of pictures to change "Worms Head" to "Worm's Head" without leaving a redirect. I've reinstated the redirects for some (the ones from Geograph Britain and Ireland, such as File:Worms Head, Gower. - geograph.org.uk - 393351.jpg) because the old name wasn't bad enough to warrant breaking it. In any case, Ordnance Survey maps all show the name of the island as "Worms Head" without an apostrophe, so arguably the old names weren't incorrect at all. --bjh21 (talk) 11:51, 21 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Any links to the files were updated and the majority of the files had no inbound links at all, so I didn't see much merit in keeping a redirect. In many different sources the region is referred to with the apostrophe. Jon Kolbert (talk) 14:23, 21 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Please do not delete file redirects (or suppress their creation). There is zero benefit to deleting them in most cases, and there is potential harm. It doesn't matter if you fix inbound links from Wikimedia projects or not. The problem is incoming links from outside WMF projects, which may or may not exist and cannot be fixed. The main exception is when the redirect would be misleading.
With regards to the headland in Wales, both variants are widely used in sources. Clearly we can only use one, and we should be consistent on categories. Its not worth quibbling over it when it comes to filenames. IMO these moves do not meet file rename criteria 3 (its not "wrong name" to "right name", its "acceptable name" to "acceptable name"), so shouldn't have been done.--Nilfanion (talk) 19:13, 21 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, apologies if you are not the proper person to be speaking to. I wanted to contact an Administrator with a question I have regarding File:Mamamoo in 180519 Holgabun Festival.jpg. The description seemed off to me, so I spoke to the original photographer on Twitter (as stated in the image description itself) and they informed me that while they gave permission to have the image used on Wikipedia, they were unaware this required them to release the photo under a Creative Commons license and would like it removed. I'm not sure if there's a way for me to me to give the conversation to an Administrator so the file may be removed in a timely manner.

Hello,

I kindly ask to undelete the following pictures, as the real author of them has sent proper agreement to OTRS (ticket:2018093010002945). Hello, Jon Kolbert!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

For example, you haven't categorized File:Boats at Pulau Ubin (26402809353).jpg but I have categorized it.√Tæ√ 17:07, 21 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

File:Pionus menstruus (Loro cabeciazul) (1) (14923843169).jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!
