Happy New Year

I wish you a Happy New Year. :) -- ChristianFerrer 19:03, 1 January 2015 (UTC)

Thanks Christian; wishing you the same! Jee 02:04, 2 January 2015 (UTC)

A cup of tea for you!

.... Hafspajen 13:43, 2 January 2015 (UTC)

Just come here to chat but in the mainwhile things are getting out of hand. Please could you weigh in here? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Tibetan_culture#New_changes Need an expert on area and pictures. As soon as you can, please. --Hafspajen 13:58, 2 January 2015 (UTC)

@Hafspajen: It is a colourful culture; so I did one edit showcasing it! Jee 15:36, 2 January 2015 (UTC)
Hm GREAT PICTURE! Jee, will you join this discussion? One crazy funny Tibetan was trying to do a fast makeover of the whole article. I can't copw with him. He doesn't like the lead picture, among other things. Feels that it doesnt represent Tibet's culture fairly. Any ideas? --Hafspajen 15:47, 2 January 2015 (UTC)
JEE!! Please join the discussion on article talk .... - I meant put the better picture on article talk. So we can discuss it. I just reverted our poor Tibetan friend four times because he made a lot of undiscussed changes. There is a GALLERY at the Talk page. We could put pictures there nd discuss, I mean. --Hafspajen 16:25, 2 January 2015 (UTC)

Restraining order

[1] is clearly a legal threat and made allegations of illegal activity against one of our editors, and has been dealt with as such. Your involvement after the user was blocked was unhelpful and may have needlessly confused the editor. If you see a user blocked in future, please contact the blocking administrator first as there may have been deleted material or other edits you're unaware about on which to base your assumption, as was the case here. Nick (talk) 10:42, 3 January 2015 (UTC)

@Nick: All I see after reading Bacrouse2014's talk page is some DR requests by EugeneZelenko which automatically generate mails as talk page notification. Since Bacrouse2014 is an inexperienced user, he can be easily confused as he has no idea bout the system of us. My only intention was to explain it. We (admins and other volunteers watching Help Desk, VP, AN, etc.) should be more friendly to newcomers.
This is just like a recent thread where a new user asked Ies to leave him. It is also a communication problem; they are friends now. I'm sure people like can handle this case better than many existing admins.
Your comment that I made an inappropriate move confused me. I see no such precedents; but see the opposite.
I'm preparing for a journey; so unable to comment further now. Jee 10:57, 3 January 2015 (UTC)
Saw my ping. When I was allowed to help with OTRS, I did politely talk down people who were rushing in to legal language, giving them options such as asking for deletion rather than thinking about getting their solicitor to arrange take down requests, which is the sort of discussion I would distinguish from a direct threat of legal action. We cannot give legal advice, so I agree with Nick that especially on-wiki we drop discussion where legal threats have been made. I also understand the potential for confusion where an account is blocked and the block rationale is unclear. Personally, in this case now I read the block log and Nick's (quite friendly) note on the user's talk page, I would have emailed Nick before taking up the discussion and offering to help, just in case there was more to it off-wiki.
Jee, I understand you are now on OTRS. Please be highly cautious where there are legal issues or potential legal issues, as you may be seen by a court as personally liable should it be interpreted that you gave advice. Unlike other support services I have been involved with, volunteers on OTRS have no insurance should this ever happen. -- (talk) 11:12, 3 January 2015 (UTC)

POTD question

Do we add our own images, or make a request, or... how does one add an image to the queue? — Crisco 1492 (talk) 20:43, 8 January 2015 (UTC)

  • Hi Crisco, unlike EN, here in Commons, anyone can add a POTD including own or other's works. The only condition is that it should be an FP and not a previous POTD.
To do so, find an empty slot (eg: Template:Potd/2015-04#29) and click on the slot (or right click and open in new tab). Add the picture using {{Potd filename}}. Come back and click or right click on the red "English : Template:Potd/xxxx-xx-xx (en) link. Add description using {{Potd description}}. Finally add {{Picture of the day}} to your file page under {{Assessments}}.
See example: File:Papilio polytes mating in Kadavoor.jpg, Template:Potd/2015-04-30 and Template:Potd/2015-04-30 (en).
Let me know if any further doubts. Jee 02:27, 9 January 2015 (UTC)
  • Alright, done. Thanks for the help. BTW, I got a panoramic head similar to what Diliff has; hopefully I can contribute similarly beautiful pictures soon. Also got a Canon MR-14EX II ring flash for the macro lens... can't wait to get back to Indonesia and find some insects to try it on them. It works pretty well for bigger animals (my pet Rottie). — Crisco 1492 (talk) 03:15, 9 January 2015 (UTC)
Congrats for the new gears. S/he looks so relaxed. :) Jee 03:22, 9 January 2015 (UTC)

Strategic Studies Group images

Hello! You added a template "OTRS received" to files 1, 2 and 3. Could you give some information about what is wrong with the ticket. These images were provided by mr. Roger Keating (co-founder and CEO of "Strategic Studies Group") and were never published before. All these photos are from personal archive of mr. Keating. I asked him specially for images that he can release under CC license. All letters from mr. Keating were provided to OTRS a month ago. Roger Keating himself filled the official form and sent it to OTRS. Here he confirmed that e-mail address roger_keatingAThotmailDOTcom is his own. I believe he used this address to communicate with OTRS. M0d3M (talk) 10:43, 14 January 2015 (UTC)

  • I believe they don't use ssg.com.au emails. And I don't want to bother him again with it. In the link mentioned above there is a confirmation that this e-mail belongs to Roger Keating. He said (with his account on official forums) to contact him via that e-mail (on hotmail.com). M0d3M (talk) 11:31, 14 January 2015 (UTC)
  • This is the link. It is the announcement of the upcoming game by SSG. Here is the quote: "<...>If you feel you are up to the challenge of making an impact on the finished game please send an email to roger_keatingAThotmailDOTcom specifying a few things about yourself<...>Roger Keating, C.E.O. Strategic Studies Group Pty. Ltd.". Account "Roger Keating" belongs to Roger Keating. If you login to the forums, you will see that he is an administrator of the forums (and member of "SSG Staff" group). M0d3M (talk) 11:49, 14 January 2015 (UTC)

Movie posters of the Czech Republic

My apologies for the delition requests, I totally overlooked the OTRS tickets! After visiting my dentist my power of concentration was significantly dimished. Btw. how long did you wait for the tickets? I asked for some two weeks ago and immediately got an automatic response but until now I didn't get a ticket. Greetings, -- Ies (talk) 13:31, 30 January 2015 (UTC)

@Ies: No worries; I usually watch files I processed. Those are not by me; but somehow in my watch too.
There seems a one month queue now. I'm processing from the old end. But I an search a ticket if some keywords are given. Jee 14:11, 30 January 2015 (UTC)

OTRS permissions

Hello,

I'm confused as to why the images I uploaded for Denise here have been flagged as not having a sufficent permissions email. What seems to be the problem? Is it simply that someone has not checked the contents of the email, or is there a larger issue at hand?

Neuroxic (talk) 08:45, 6 February 2015 (UTC)

@Neuroxic: See Commons:OTRS#Note #3: "The email you send must come from an email address that we can recognize. For instance, if you are releasing images from a website, your email address must be associated with the website or listed on the contact page of the website. If you are releasing images on behalf of an organization, your e-mail address must be an official address of the organization. If you are releasing a work that is not available online, you may be required to provide proof of your identity. If you are releasing a work where you are acting on the copyright holder's behalf, you may be required to provide proof of authorization to work on the copyright holder's behalf." Jee 08:51, 6 February 2015 (UTC)
@Jkadavoor: I'm releasing on behalf on the copywrite holder, and I have have authorization. (An email) How should I show you the evidence?Neuroxic (talk) 08:58, 6 February 2015 (UTC)
@Neuroxic: Just reply to the mail I already sent as a reply to the permissions. Attach or forward the authorization as suitable. Do all communications through OTRS than here. Jee 09:02, 6 February 2015 (UTC)
@Jkadavoor: Oh, the person you sent that email to was the copywrite holder, not me. Neuroxic (talk) 09:05, 6 February 2015 (UTC)
@Jkadavoor: If you want I can forward the correspondence to OTRS. Neuroxic (talk) 09:14, 6 February 2015 (UTC)
@Neuroxic: Better you contact him. You are free to forward the mails to OTRS too. But we can't verify an email from yahoo or gmail. So he need to follow the alternatives I mentioned above. Jee 09:19, 6 February 2015 (UTC)
@Jkadavoor: Check the OTRS emails, I forwarded the appropriate correspondence. Neuroxic (talk) 09:24, 6 February 2015 (UTC)
@Jkadavoor: Obviously let me know when the email's been read. This confusion was a stuff-up on my end, forgetting to tell the copywrite holder to forward appropriate correspondence. Neuroxic (talk) 09:41, 6 February 2015 (UTC)
@Neuroxic: Just reading. Jee 09:45, 6 February 2015 (UTC)
@Neuroxic: Closed; thanks. Jee 09:53, 6 February 2015 (UTC)
@Jkadvoor: No thank you, sorry again for wasting your time. I'll suggest though, that on the OTRS page it's made clearer that correspondence needs to be added, perhaps by italicizing and the previously exchanged correspondence with you or split the sentence into dot point. I'd hate for users in the future to make the same mistake I did and waste other users' valuable time. Neuroxic (talk) 10:04, 6 February 2015 (UTC)
@Neuroxic: Feel free to share your experiance and suggestions at Commons_talk:OTRS. Jee 10:09, 6 February 2015 (UTC)

Hi, thank you for your work in OTRS permissions and for your help at the help desk. I have received a reply from the author regarding two files I had uploaded, File:Tanjong Pagar railway station.jpg and File:Welcome sign at Tanjong Pagar.jpg. Unfortunately, the author does not agree to the licensing terms.

However, the author also states that he doesn't mind Wikipedia using the photos. Free images similar to File:Tanjong Pagar railway station.jpg are available, but it's hard to replace File:Welcome sign at Tanjong Pagar.jpg. If it qualifies as fair use, is it possible to move File:Welcome sign at Tanjong Pagar.jpg to Wikipedia and tag it as such?--Joshua (talk) 03:44, 9 February 2015 (UTC)

Joshua, I don't know whether they meet en:Wikipedia:Non-free_content#Images #8. You need to discuss there. Anyway, I going to tag these files for deletion from Commons. Jee 03:50, 9 February 2015 (UTC)

Doesn't the mural in this picture need some sort of license? The license on the page only seems to cover the photo, and presumably the author of mural wants credit as well. I see the OTRS, but information from that needs to migrate to the image page.--Prosfilaes (talk) 09:57, 9 February 2015 (UTC)

Prosfilaes, FranCisco Vargas is the muralist per the file description. He is the photographer too. (attribution improved) Jee 10:01, 9 February 2015 (UTC)

Giada Marini's images

Dear Jeevan Jose, thank you for taking care of the OTRS ticked with Giada/Djada Marini's images (the difference in the spelling comes from the fact that our Bulgarian language is cyrillic based, and a variety of Latin translitterations are possible...). I was involved in this case by Magog the Ogre, see User_talk:Spiritia#User:Giada Marini, who has noticed her inapt uploads and also noticed that she is a Bulgarian, just like me, and addressed me with a request to talk with her and help her for OTRS procedure. I spent some time sorting out all her uploads, both the deleted (I'm admin), and the remaining ones. After contacting her, she immediately responded and provided me with the images in full resolutions with meta data (as you cant find scraped from the web), as well as with the explanation that she is friend and PR of band Svetoglas and friend of singers Rumiana Kotseva and Guna Ivanova. She has made the pictures of these subjects, however, providing them with the photos for promotional use she has never required attribution in these images' use and reuse (the concept of protecting copyrights in Bulgaria is not so popular). These images provided by her, are practially those in the User:Spiritia/Giada Marini#Available uploads, Column "Replacement?", which I have uploaded on her behalf, tagged by the OTRS pending review template.

I can translate to English my correspondence with Ms. Marini, although it's rather long and time consuming, and I'd prefer - if requested for further reference - to send it in original and let you Google translate it. I'm sure that you'll also understand from it that there is nothing suspicious and worrying in this case, despite the fact (please take it into consideration) that the author is not technically very apt person, her level of English is also relatively low, while she is really eager to contribute to Wikipedia on topics related with the subjects, and in general with authentic folklore music of Bulgaria, which is the area the photoed subjects are working in.

Please, take into consideration all these aspects, and have a look at User:Spiritia/Giada Marini, where I just placed our correspondence with OTRS and your reply. Per your advise, I asked Ms. Marini to re-send the permission, and she immediately re-sent it, this time from the email address info [at] svetoglas.com which is the email, publicly associated with the website of the Svetoglas band: http://www.svetoglas.com/Contacts_en.php. I believe that this re-sent permission should now be fine for you, at least for the Svetoglas related images. Rumiana Kotseva and Guna Ivanova do not seem to have official websites, and the procedure you advise us to use is not possible for these images. However, I believe that with all the explanations provided, you will understand that these couple of images are also provided by the original author Ms. Marini.

Please ping me when you reply. Spiritia 09:37, 21 February 2015 (UTC)

Dear Jee, how do you advise us to proceed with next eventual uploads of the user - of the same or other subjects; shall new permissions be sent again each time, or the permission in ticket #2015011110009459 can serve her future uploads as well? Spiritia 11:29, 21 February 2015 (UTC)
@Spiritia: I just marked the user page. S/he can continue uploads as far as they are "own works". No need to mention that ticket number in all uploads. You can undelete the files which you think OK too. But s/he should not upload any work that are not own works using source as {{Own}}. Jee 11:44, 21 February 2015 (UTC)
Yes, this point of the Commons policy I already explained, and was accepted by the uploader. Thank you very much again for your support! Spiritia 19:43, 21 February 2015 (UTC)

à propos Djamel Dahou

Bonjour je voulais vous demander comment je peux avoir la license de ce fichier ? Djamel Dahou — Preceding unsigned comment added by YacineDZ (talk • contribs)

Hi YacineDZ, I can't see deleted content; but I assume it is previously published somewhere else without a free license. Common accepts freely licensed or public domain contents only; so need to arrange the copyright holder to send the permission to COM:OTRS. Yann may give you more accurate answer as he can see the deleted file. Jee 14:12, 1 March 2015 (UTC)
FYI, the image is a copy from the web with "© 123AlgeriaSport.com 2014" at the source. YacineDZ is blocked undefinitely for the second time. He was blocked previously by Martin H., and I unblocked him in January when he promised not to upload copyvios anymore. But in vain... :( Also he claims to have sent a copy of the permission to OTRS, but I can't find anything there. So I don't believe him. Regards, Yann (talk) 16:44, 1 March 2015 (UTC)

Mealybugs

Hi Jee, I was wondering if you know any places for the identification of mealybugs (at least to the genus). J Milburn at the English Wikipedia was hoping we'd be able to narrow things down a bit, for this image. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 00:04, 2 March 2015 (UTC)

Cris, it may not be possible without microscopic inspection; but you can try to ask to people like https://www.facebook.com/doug.yanega (available in Insect India, entomology and many other groups). Jee 02:11, 2 March 2015 (UTC)

Commons:Own work

You may be away, so please look at this when you get back

You added [3]] to Commons:Own work. Nothing seriously wrong with that except for a minor mispelling. What you wrote is the general rule. However, the copyright holder is not necessarily the "person who takes the photograph," it is the "author," which can be decided various ways, and for Commons purposes, we are also interested in who might be a co-author, because a co-author, at least in the U.S., may release the image without consulting the other co-authors. I have edited the text to reflect this, [4]. Then I created a subpage on the very common case, Commons:Own work/Bystander selfie. The attached talk page has some of the legal justification of this. If you have more interest, there is a compilation of research on bystander selfies at User:Abd/Bystander photos and subpages, with links to prior discussions that I've been able to find. Perhaps you know of more.

I think this is about ready to present to the community. Probably the Own work page should be cleaned up, if it needs it, and it would all be presented at once. What do you think? Thanks. --Abd (talk) 21:43, 19 March 2015 (UTC)

Hi Jee, I created sections for this gallery, one of them "people at work" is inspired by what you created on flickr. I leave you the honor, if you wish, to place the images you find relevant. If you have other ideas for new sections, please. -- Christian Ferrer 07:26, 24 May 2015 (UTC)

Thanks Christian; "People at/love works" is always a favorite theme for me. Due to COM:IDENT issues it is difficult to get many such works here as consent is difficult for candid shots. I appreciate you created such a gallery, and no need of any credit mentioned. Thanks, Jee 08:20, 24 May 2015 (UTC)
About what credit are you talking about? -- Christian Ferrer 08:24, 24 May 2015 (UTC)
It may be a language problem by me while reading "I leave you the honor". Forget it. :) Jee 08:27, 24 May 2015 (UTC)
Oh, in French, when we say "I leave you the honor", it means "if you take pleasure with such images, I let you have a pleasant time to sort and weary place in the corresponding sections, if you wish it of course". :). I add that I think this is already an opportunity and a self honor to participate in a project like Commons... -- Christian Ferrer 08:41, 24 May 2015 (UTC)

Psst...

Hello Jee. I don't know if you've ever been asked about this before, but have you ever considered becoming an administrator? I'm sure you are aware of the acute shortage of active admins and I think you would be an excellent admin. Cheers. Green Giant (talk) 18:14, 24 May 2015 (UTC)

Hi Green Giant, thanks for considering me. Yes; it was asked by several people. I believe I can maintain neutrality even if I've strong opinions in many matters. But unfortunately I run into disputes recently and it made me very stressful. So I decided to stay away from maintenance jobs and resigned my OTRS volunteer-ship too. I'm sure I will not reconsider them for one year; at least. Thanks again. Jee 01:13, 25 May 2015 (UTC)
Thank you for the reply. I will try to ask you again in 2016 then :) If you know of any possible candidates for adminship, please let me know. Green Giant (talk) 15:05, 25 May 2015 (UTC)
Green Giant: I'll try. BTW, I think Crisco 1492 is a good candidate if he has some time to spare with Commons. He is an EN admin, having good knowledge about copyrights. @Crisco 1492: Are you interested? Jee 01:44, 26 May 2015 (UTC)

Noted and commented. Please be careful as a new admin here. You need a lot to learn and get experienced. But I appreciate it. Jee 03:11, 22 June 2015 (UTC)

Hello. We have categories dedicated to featured pictures for any city on Earth, big or small, that has at least 7 FPs on Commons. Except for the place you are. That's because I am still not sure whether the new category should be named Category:Featured pictures of Kadavoor or Category:Featured pictures of Kothamangalam... or whatever else! I'd like to pick the municipal level, not a district within a city nor, on the opposite hand, a metropolitan area made of multiple cities. Which name should be picked then? Thierry Caro (talk) 12:48, 4 July 2015 (UTC)

I guess I'll take Category:Featured pictures of Kothamangalam. Thank you. Thierry Caro (talk) 13:22, 4 July 2015 (UTC)

Lestes elatus

Hi, I was recently in France and took this picture and I was able to recognize this Lestes (I hope you agree) thanks to your picture I reviewed on QIC. I hope you don't dislike it if I copied your English description. Thanks again for your help with the succulent plant, I wonder if you recognize also these . Cheers --Wolfgang Moroder (talk) 18:41, 4 July 2015 (UTC)

Thanks Wolfgang Moroder. It is very difficult to find species level identifications of subjects from places I'm not familiar. You can try at science projects in your local wiki like de-wiki if you can't edit at en-wiki. Another option is to post at FB groups. Jee 01:28, 5 July 2015 (UTC)

Hi Jee, I've just noticed your question for identification. Do you know the Catalogue of the Craneflies of the World? Using the advanced search should show all (described) species in your country. And you should try to contact Pjotr Oosterbroek per mail (for address see http://ccw.naturalis.nl/manual.php), I think he will be interested to use your photo in his catalogue. Greetings from Germany, --Pristurus (talk) 22:17, 17 July 2015 (UTC)

Thanks Pristurus for this valuable info. I'll refer it and try to contact him. Greeting from India! Jee 01:15, 18 July 2015 (UTC)
Fine, a new species, congratulations! --Pristurus (talk) 22:16, 14 August 2015 (UTC)
Yes, Pristurus! It is confirmed (the female too) late night yesterday. I was going to share this good news to you. And you found it before! Thanks; the lead you had given is very helpful. He was very generous to look all images and compare them with the specimen in museum. Thanks again. Jee 01:25, 15 August 2015 (UTC)
Well, now you should try to catch some individuals and describe (together with him) the new species in a scientific paper. Congratulations again, --Pristurus (talk) 10:41, 15 August 2015 (UTC)

Naming

I see from the above QIs that you are using "of", "on", "in", "by", "around" to distinguish various photos of the same (or similar) subject. I think it would be better if you simply used a numbering system. A date can also help, should you take other photographs of the same species at a later time (if you do use a date, then either spell the month (or abbreviate) or use the 2015-07-21 format, since the 4/3/2015 format is ambiguous between UK and US speakers).

In English, "in" and "around" mean very different things (the latter implying that the subject was near to but not actually in Kadavoor). And "of" implies belonging which could cause confusion with regard to native vs non-native or occasional species. We might use "by" with a location such as a lake or river, but not really for a village. Better to stick with "in" and be consistent. We humans like patterns and when there's an irregularity then we look for a reason why -- and there doesn't appear to be a reason here other than to come up with unique names. -- Colin (talk) 07:06, 21 July 2015 (UTC)

  • Thanks, Colin. I understand what you meant. I too think "in" is best; remember a discussion on fpc talk about "Featured pictures of <place> and Diliff suggested "in" more meaningful than "of".
  • I too used 1, 2, 3.. earlier; but don't like it when used as a "title" in Media Viewer or anywhere else. Date will not help me as I usually end up a series of shots in same day. May be including time (hr:minute) may helps. Now, I'm getting out of stock for words; at, in, of, on, by, around, from... :) Jee 07:36, 21 July 2015 (UTC)
I didn't think the date would be unique enough, but thought it may help distinguish the photo you took this summer compared to next summer? Something like File:Elymnias caudata - Kadavoor - 2015-07-10 - 1.jpg? Three sections: subject - date - sequence. It is a shame if the filename is used as a title for some purposes, when it's real purpose is to be a unique and useful identifier. When I open an image with Media viewer, it shows the long description, not the filename. You can also use the Title and Description fields in the EXIF (these are displayed in MediaWiki Metadata table as Short title and Image title respectively). -- Colin (talk) 11:35, 21 July 2015 (UTC)
Glad to see Media Viewer removed the "file name as title" concept. I disabled it in Commons; so didn't notice new updates. I like the new example by you. Jee 11:40, 21 July 2015 (UTC)
When I first saw your photographs on Commons with "by kadavoor" in the filename, I though "kadavoor" was your surname and you were proudly ensuring your name was prominent! :-) -- Colin (talk) 13:11, 21 July 2015 (UTC)

Autumm leaf butterfly

Hi there. You were telling me how to compose my pictures better. We all have different ideas on composition, and I wouldn't dream on coaching you!. Here is another (uncropped) image taken at the same time (in the same forest). File:Autumn leaf (Doleschallia bisaltide) Bali I 2.jpg. I prefer the one I submitted. Charles (talk) 09:04, 24 July 2015 (UTC)

Charles, Rule of thirds and Lead room are two evergreen concepts in photography. Some prefer centered composition if subject is facing front or back. But in other cases, if subject is either facing left or right (as in your photo), following rule of third with some allowance for lead room where subject is looking may good. We can achieve it either by composing or cropping later. Just a lesson I learnt from others. (But you can keep on your preferences. Great works; I enjoy them!) Jee 09:18, 24 July 2015 (UTC)
As you know, getting it right not always possible with wildlife! File:Brown-backed Red Marsh Hawk Orthetrum chrysis Male by Kadavoor.jpg. You take some superb images. Charles (talk) 10:09, 24 July 2015 (UTC)

undelete request images rnieders article Tijuana cross-border terminal now Cross Border Xpress

Hello Jkadavoor, thank you for supporting Hjmitchell's undelete request. Yesterday I received a copy of a letter sent by the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) to Wikimedia legal regarding images Caltrans used in their quarterly Journal in April 2001. The letter established my copyright ownership of the concept images which still remain deleted. The letter was requested more than four months ago but as with any government agency, the request had to go through a review process and several departments. How can I send you a copy of that letter dated July 27, 2015 with the supporting Caltrans Journal which published my images in April 2001? This letter will help clarify many issues. You have my email address rnieders, your page here does not indicate an email address to which I could attach the Caltrans letter and documents, the prior OTRS Ticket which you reviewed was #2015010210007101. I would appreciate the opportunity to send you the letter from Caltrans to clarify the issues on the remaining images. Respectfully Rnieders (talk) 04:04, 30 July 2015 (UTC)

Thank you for contacting me, I appreciate your help and hope the misunderstandings can be placed behind, you are true to your word and motto "Anyone with a complaint should be treated with the utmost respect and dignity", again thank you for your help Rnieders (talk) 13:06, 30 July 2015 (UTC)
Hello Jeevan Jose, I did try to contact Natuur12, his page mentioned he will taking a small break from Wiki, I placed the Ticket #2015010210007101 on the topic which was from March, 2015, and sent this is the message to him:

Hello Natuur12, thank you for undeleting the images requested by Hjmitchell, I received your message "@Rnieders: if you send this email to com:OTRS and provide me with the ticket number I will give this case top priority. Natuur12 (talk) 11:30, 30 July 2015 (UTC)" could not find the archives on com:OTRS. The California Department of Transportation send a letter to the Wikimedia legal that should clarify my copyright on most of the other deleted images, how can I send you a PDF of that letter which also included the Caltrans Journal which published my images in April, 2001? Thank you for your help Rnieders (talk) 13:36, 30 July 2015 (UTC)

When you where at OTRS, I remember I could send you PDF files, I also looked to see if Natuur12 had an email on his page, also could not find it. I do not want to repeat mistake. Thank you Rnieders (talk) 13:48, 30 July 2015 (UTC)
Rnieders, you can continue the discussion there as he already responded to it. You can mail him too; but attachment is not possible unless he responded to you revealing his email address. Better you reply to that ticket with the attachments as he can see them and take decision accordingly. OTRS prefers to keep all mails there. Jee 14:22, 30 July 2015 (UTC)
Hello Jeevan Jose, I am a bit confused as to where to reply, Caltrans is a government agency and the request with them was made more than four months ago, since it was a copyright issue, Caltrans sent the original to Wikimedia legal in San Francisco, Wikimedia then wrote saying that they have nothing to do with the actions of Wikicommons, there does not seem to be a depository or physical address/individual to where correspondence can be sent to Commons other than the Wikimedia Foundation. Since back in March my existence was questioned, I wanted to establish who I was and to whom the images belonged to and Caltrans having published my work in 2001 was kind enough to become involved, but as the Administrators involved change with time, the document has to be sent to some entity which is permanent and could supply the document in the future i.e. Wikimedia, without recurrent requests to Caltrans. Hope this helps, reading the Caltrans document would help resolve the questions. Thank you for your attention Rnieders (talk) 13:03, 31 July 2015 (UTC)
l'm watching all conversations; so where you reply is not a problem for me. Glad to see Maggie already responded to you. Please stay calm and wait for a couple of days as this is weekend. Jee 15:19, 31 July 2015 (UTC)
You are right, people have to rest, thank you for your patience. Rnieders (talk) 14:14, 1 August 2015 (UTC)
Dear Jeevan thank you for your help and for connecting with Maggie, I would like to ask you for advice in uploading two images to make sure I do not do it wrong again but if you are busy, please say so. How are public domain images uploaded? And I cleaned up one image and would like to replace the one already uploaded without creating a duplicate. You know the process, but again, if you are busy please do not hesitate to say so. Thank you for all your help and hopefully one day I can put a face to a name, all the best Rnieders (talk) 17:42, 2 August 2015 (UTC)
For uploading new versions over a file, you can use the link "Upload a new version of this file" under "File history" in a file page. The new version is visible for reuse, the old version will remain under history.
For PD images, find a suitable license tag under Category:PD license tags. I'm not an expert in that area, so you may ask a more experienced admin like Natuur12 or Yann. Alternatively you can ask at COM:VPC more more detailed help.
I'm not busy and available to help. Feel free to ask anything. Have a nice day. Jee 01:22, 3 August 2015 (UTC)
Dear Jeevan, time is a valuable and irreplaceable commodity, at 20 you have 60 years to enjoy life but at 60, you have fewer than 20! Thank you for your advice, I did manage to upload a cleaned up version of the first file, the public domain, well that I did not figure out and will try again. I have one of the few surviving originals of the City of San Diego TwinPorts concept photo, this project cost Ron Roberts his bid to become Mayor of San Diego, we all lost something in the process, and most of all, we lost time. I started writing the Tijuana article one year ago, again thank you for your help if you ever use Skype, I am on it, use my first.last name. All the bestRnieders (talk) 03:29, 4 August 2015 (UTC)

Dear Jeevan, the last image I uploaded File:San Diego TwinPorts proposal- Ron Roberts 1991.jpg, has been nominated for deletion by Ellin Beltz please read discussion on Natuur12's discussion page, if I made a mistake, please correct me. I read the {{PD-CAGov}}, this picture was used in government to government negotiations, it was produced by the City and distributed by Ron Roberts, it was the basic model used in the discussions between Mexico and San Diego. Again, if I made a mistake, and I did ask Commons help before uploading, please correct me. I will be back in San Diego on the 15th and can then go directly to see Ron Roberts and if necessary to the office of Mayor of San Diego for them to check their records since it was the Mayor's office which led the negotiations back in 1991-1993 on this issue and see where they keep their records. Could you ping this to Maggie would like to have her opinion. Thank you Rnieders (talk) 21:13, 9 August 2015 (UTC)

I asked for an expert opinion. Hope he will comment soon. Jee 01:20, 10 August 2015 (UTC)

Location categories

Hello Jee. You have demanded location categories for all organisms. I cannot find the specific requirement on QI guidelines. Alos, the only category you have used on a recent spider image is a category (spiders of kadavoor) you have created for yourself. If you are right in the QI guidelines requirements, then you surely you should state 'spiders of Kerala' or whichever Indian state. Best wishes, Charles (talk) 07:47, 1 August 2015 (UTC)

Hi Charles, Category:Spiders of Kadavoor is a subcat of Category:Spiders of Kerala which is a subcat of Category:Spiders of India by state or territory which is a subcat of Category:Spiders of India which is a subcat of Category:Spiders by country which is a subcat of Category:Arachnids by country which is a subcat of Category:Arachnida, ... a subcat of Category:Animalia. Hope you understand the category tree. Also see this discussion to understand the importance of location categories. Jee 08:20, 1 August 2015 (UTC)
I have read the discussion which you started. It was interesting but I cannot see where it has been accepted as QI policy. Personally I find your use of 'Spiders of Kadavoor' less than helpful. I would recommend that Commoners use locations that are likely to be generally understood, like 'Spiders of Kerala'. If Kadavoor had its own unique sub-species that would be useful, but it doesn't. Best wishes. Charles (talk) 08:38, 1 August 2015 (UTC)
Charles: 1. It is not created by me. Usually our categorisers create new categories when the mother category grows big. 2. Let me explain the importance of location through an example. Today I requested an entomologist to look into this taken by Laitche. He thought it is my work and replied immediately, Ictinogomphus distinctus. Out of curiosity, he asked "what is the size as I didn't see it." I replied, "I don't know; it is from Japan". "Oops"; he replied "then it will be different". He looked more carefully and concluded, "Sinictinogomphus clavatus, female". See, I'm trying help you. I already added location cats to more than six files of you two days ago. You didn't notice/care it. So I made a strong comment today. You can neglect it and I'm sure some other will promote your works. I don't bother as I've better things to do. BTW, I like your works as commented earlier, above. ;) Jee 08:56, 1 August 2015 (UTC)

Species categories

By looking at the links you provided in the QI candidates talk page, I found this : Category:Ageratina riparia.

At the bottom there is Category:Flora of Michoacan, Category:Flora of Michoacan, Category:Flora of Michoacan....I like this way, but I think it is not enough. Here's what would be good :

  • Category:Flora species of Michoacan ("Species of flora that can be found in Michoacan" : it should contains only subcategories (not images) of species that can be find in Michoacan)
  • Category:Flora images of Michoacan (it should contains only the images of Flora taken in Michocan, and these images must have at least 3 categories : 1.Species level (or genus), 2.Flora images of Michoacan and 3.the most accurate possible administrative category (for example at municipality level)

I like the idea of two subcategories : one for the "images taken in" and one for the "species that can be find in"

-- Christian Ferrer 03:56, 5 August 2015 (UTC)

It was a very old discussion and the op seems retired now. I too like the idea; but no idea how much we can maintain the "species that can be find in" category up-to-date. For example we belong to Western Ghats which is part of Indomalaya ecozone. We share many organisms; and some of them are strictly endemic. But still some parks "cultivate" some fauna and flora for educational purposes. So we have many butterfly FPs and QIs taken in Europe which are native to Asia. Jee 07:06, 5 August 2015 (UTC)
Yes indeed now many species are travelling or/and have been introduced intentionally or accidentally. When at least one species have been photograpied in a place, it is a species "that can be found in", of course assuming the good faith of the photographer. This kind of category tree could help too for identification as it will be more easy to compare an image species with other species of a specific place. -- Christian Ferrer 10:55, 5 August 2015 (UTC)

Ok. Actually, I need a better image of Machli as I have an idea to expand the article. Yes, Koshy has good work, but I couldn't see "Machli". Some of his images are found here too. --AntanO 08:38, 11 August 2015 (UTC)

Yes; and can point to the Parantica aglea. Jee 07:26, 18 August 2015 (UTC)
And you can fix the categories for all pictures in that ml wiki page. See this search result. Experts well explained there that no recent record of Ideopsis vulgaris from India. Jee 07:34, 18 August 2015 (UTC)
Shyamal, please check Ideopsis vulgaris and correct if any errors. It seems early authors of that page also confused about this species. Jee 07:42, 18 August 2015 (UTC)

✓ Done my try is uploaded... --Christian Ferrer (talk) 09:37, 30 August 2015 (UTC)

Not very far from your version, just sharpened more, maybe it is too much, is it? You're right for the eyes it's not some kind of moire as Diliff said but the natural appearance of the eyes and a guarantee of good quality image details although there was some chromatic aberrations on the edge of the facets, but only visible at 200%!! I forgot to edit the right part of branch, you can see the difference before/after, I will upload a complete version if you're happy with this edition. --Christian Ferrer (talk) 10:00, 30 August 2015 (UTC)
Sharpness is excellent. But in my monitor, the 6+3+1 marks (hope you get what I'm talking about) look overexposed. It may be a problem of my monitor as many people are complaining about the brightness of my works. There is a reflecting duct particle on the fur on the pro-thorax (neck) which can be removed. There are many other dust particles collected on his body including one on the eye. It is quite normal and no need to touch them. (Diliff and Colin, could you please check the brightness level?) Thanks. Jee 11:11, 30 August 2015 (UTC)
I finished the branch and cloned out the reflection. I don't know what you're talking about ("6+3+1 marks"), but if there is something overexposed it might be the colored reflexions on the wing but we should not touch as there are a feature of the insect and of the image IMO. --Christian Ferrer (talk) 12:33, 30 August 2015 (UTC)
Thanks Christian. Yes; it is difficult to explain; so I made a note. If that parts are OK in brightness level, the edit is perfectly fine for me. As Fraser noted, they are very reflective anyway. Thanks again. Jee 12:52, 30 August 2015 (UTC)
Christian jee is referring to the reflective parts of which there are a group of 6 bands, then 3 bands then 1 band. Compared to Jee's version, yours do seem clipped and there's a hard boundary to them rather than the softness in Jee's. I think we want a compromise where the reflection is brighter than Jee's but not clipped. -- Colin (talk) 13:00, 30 August 2015 (UTC)
Indeed; an intermediate version may perfect. Jee 13:16, 30 August 2015 (UTC)

✓ Done I tried too to clone out the overexposition on the water, hope the retouched areas are not too visible --Christian Ferrer (talk) 11:46, 1 September 2015 (UTC)

Wow! What a difference!!! Excellent; thanks. Jee 11:58, 1 September 2015 (UTC)
I updated the cropped version too. --Christian Ferrer (talk) 11:02, 4 September 2015 (UTC)
Thanks; used here. :) Jee 11:14, 4 September 2015 (UTC)

Moiré pattern in the eye

  • Jee, if Ivar is agree, can we send him the RAW file for he take a look at the eye of the insect? I'm sincerely curious if it's really a fixable defect or not as he is the second person after Dilif to talk about that. --Christian Ferrer (talk) 14:15, 5 September 2015 (UTC)
I'm pretty sure the bright pixels of colour in the eye are moire from the Bayer sensor and fixable with the brush in Lightroom. I don't think those are the iridescent colours of the eye. -- Colin (talk) 15:44, 5 September 2015 (UTC)
  • Colin I did what you say with lightroom, sadly, the big part of my edition is done in two phases, first in lightroom (creation of a xmp file) second, much longer, in photoshop (psd file), when I create the psd file, the edition made in lightroom was reflected in photoshop. The new change made in lightroom after the creation of the psd file are not reflected in photoshop. I do not know how to do for these new changes take effect (without redone entirely the long edition in photoshop). Any chance to correct the issue directly in photoshop, or an idea for that new changes take effect in my psd file? I read somewhere to use blur filter, I already tried but this also affects the appearance of the area. --Christian Ferrer (talk) 16:30, 5 September 2015 (UTC)
I can repeat what I did in photoshop but it will take me some time because I select small areas in a 200% view to sharpen small details as hair, in the purpose to avoid adding noise and sharpening artefacts in the background. If necessary I can, but Jee must withdraw and let me time. --Christian Ferrer (talk) 16:41, 5 September 2015 (UTC)
Christian Ferrer there is no need to panic and withdraw over minor issue of moire in small area. This is like a dust spot or small CA -- something nobody should oppose over and would trust if you say you plan to fix. There are no opposes. Ok, if you have a PSD, the "demoire" tool is in both Lightroom and ACR. Christian, do you save the PSD to JPG using Photoshop? If instead you save to TIFF then you can get ACR to open it (I think you have to save an ACR preference for opening TIFF files) and then ACR can fix the moire and then you can finally save the TIFF to JPG. If you can't figure it out, put the PSD on dropbox and I'll have a look later. We should be able to do this without any change to the rest of the image. -- Colin (talk) 18:31, 5 September 2015 (UTC)

Could you able to remove the watermark on the image? --AntanO 03:48, 16 September 2015 (UTC)

See COM:Watermarks. I personally will not remove watermarks from other's works. But other people may. :) Jee 15:15, 16 September 2015 (UTC)
Ok :) --AntanO 05:42, 17 September 2015 (UTC)
Machali is featured in today's DYK page. Due to copyright issue, her picture is missed on the front page. :( Anyway, happy to seen in the article. Thanks again for uploading the image. --AntanO 04:01, 18 September 2015 (UTC)
There is no copyright issue as the work has still CC BY-2.0 license in Flickr. Wikipedia policy may discourage use of watermarked image and can be replaced if they get any non-watermarked image in future. Jee 05:20, 18 September 2015 (UTC)
User:AntanO: I have stepped in and produced a version without the watermark (see File:Machli (tigress)2.jpg). The image's original license permits others to modify the work as they see fit, and I saw fit. The author already has credit on the file description page, so there was no need for this watermark, and it significantly detracted from the overall image. Hi

Hi! It was nice meeting you in the plane from Oviedo. Here you are my user name. Best wishes --Hispalois (talk) 16:42, 24 October 2015 (UTC)

Hi Hispalois, it was a wonderful conversation with you while we're returning from Oviedo to Madrid. I just returned to Kasaragod after one day rest. Will check your and User:Ruben Ortega's pages soon. :) Thanks! Jee 04:53, 28 October 2015 (UTC)
Hi!, I also was in Oviedo, in the Reconquista Hotel after the awards. Although we didn't speak, it was great that you were there. Cheers, --PePeEfe (talk) 08:13, 4 November 2015 (UTC)
Thanks PePeEfe. It was my pleasure too to meet the Spanish community there! Jee 08:44, 4 November 2015 (UTC)

The Commons email template: feedback request

Hey, Jkadavoor! I noticed the changes you made to the Commons email template (version here) in which you added the terms "the media work", "the media depicted in the work", and "both the work depicted and the media". I think this was a great improvement, but I found it dazzlingly confusing the first several times I read it (not your fault!). I have now gone over the template and added "notes" that I believe explain what these terms mean and provide concrete examples of each, but as I did not insert the terms, I wanted to get your thoughts on what I wrote (because as much as I think I understand copyright law...). Would you be willing to check out the template and let me know if I understood you correctly? These concepts seem to be highly relevant and should be clearly explained for the general public! THANK YOU! KDS4444 (talk) 08:45, 1 November 2015 (UTC)

Thanks KDS4444. Yes; your explanation makes sense. It is exactly I meant. During my OTRS time, I've to ask again and again to clarify this as it is very vague in earlier template. For photograph of a sculpture, we need permission form the sculpturer, and photographer as photograph is a derivative work. Sometimes uploader is the photographer himself and his permission is already in the file page. In such cases, we need permission only for the sculpture. Sometimes, when some Wikipedian ask the artist for a photo of his work and they deliver a photo of the artwork taken by themselves. In such cases, they need to mention both the artwork and photograph are created by them. Jee 16:13, 1 November 2015 (UTC)

Hello Jee do you think this image by Zcebeci is a female Trithemis arteriosa? --Christian Ferrer (talk) 13:49, 22 November 2015 (UTC)

  • Thanks Christian. Sorry; I can't identify European odonata. I'll ask John Flannery about the locations. Virus fever; so please forgive for my delayed responses for a few days. Jee 14:21, 22 November 2015 (UTC)
ok, thank you, get well! --Christian Ferrer (talk) 14:25, 22 November 2015 (UTC)
Hi Christian, John let me know that most of his pictures are taken in Richmond County. Jee 01:21, 23 November 2015 (UTC)

Hi Praveen, I think all IDs are correct. Great pictures! BTW, please add location categories and (if possible) geo codes too. Jee 12:58, 7 December 2015 (UTC)

Unidentified Russian butterflies

Hi Jee, I hope you're well. Can you take a look at these two high quality butterfly images I uploaded:

The description is very simple, but not very helpful; all it says is "Spring (Весна) in Vladimir Oblast". Any idea what the species is? If you know what kind of butterfly this is, please feel free to change categories and rename the files as you see fit. Thanks for your time. INeverCry 03:08, 17 December 2015 (UTC)

Hi INeverCry, they seem Small tortoiseshell! Ref: http://www.richard-seaman.com/Arthropods/Russia/ Jee 03:27, 17 December 2015 (UTC)
Wow, that was quick! That fits perfectly. I've re-categorized them and renamed them. I appreciate the help. I hope you liked the photos. INeverCry 03:39, 17 December 2015 (UTC)
Yes; I love them. Would like to peep on the Russian organisms too! :) Jee 03:42, 17 December 2015 (UTC)

Thanks The Photographer, George Chernilevsky, Ellin Beltz and Pine. Sorry for the late response; we were away for celebrating Christmas with our parents. Hope you to enjoy it. Have a wonderful new year ahead! Jee 03:24, 29 December 2015 (UTC)

What kind of camera?

I live in a town with many elderly photographers. What kind of camera would you seek to replace whatever it was that got wet? Cheers! Ellin Beltz (talk) 16:07, 8 December 2015 (UTC)

Thanks Ellin Beltz for the comment. The damaged camera was a Sony A33. As the lens and flash are OK, a Sony camera (like A77 II) may be the economical choice. If go for a different brand, I need to find matching lens too. (It is difficult to send old camera to India as it attracts customs duties.) Jee 16:32, 8 December 2015 (UTC)
Bummer about the customs duties. When you get a new Kickstarter going, let me know, I'll contribute. I like your photos. Ellin Beltz (talk) 01:17, 9 December 2015 (UTC)
