Hello Yathin,
Thank you so much for uploading your beautyful images. I hope it helps to show the world how great the Indian wildlife is. Cheers,--Altaileopard (talk) 21:55, 5 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I hope so too! :) Yathin sk (talk) 18:13, 6 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Yathin sk, already the red Category:Tailorbird indicates that this category does'n work. Please categorize the scientific (latin) name of this bird. Actually always use the the scientific names to categorize animals, plants, fungi etc. Greetings, -- Ies (talk) 17:49, 5 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Btw, if you don't know the scientific name of this bird use Category:Unidentified birds. -- Ies (talk) 17:54, 5 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Categories

[edit]

Hi Yathin sk, please categorize more exact. There is a Category:Mammals of Etosha National Park for images like File:Cynictis penicillata (Etosha, 2011).jpg and a Category:Birds of Etosha National Park for images like File:Spilornis cheela (Bandipur, 2008).jpg. Beautiful pictures btw! Greetings, -- Ies (talk) 17:26, 26 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I always seem to forget doing the categorization right. Will fix it right away. Thanks for letting me know. :)

Hi Yathin, I'd like to recommend you this video tutorial, remember to always use RAW files. --The Photographer (talk) 13:46, 30 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

White Tailed Eagle license issue

[edit]

The image of the white tailed hawk on flickr seems to be under a non-commercial, no-derivs license, which I believe means it is not appropriate for wikimedia commons. I flagged the file in question. For reference here's the photo on flickr http://www.flickr.com/photos/yathin/7857079800/ (note the license).

Did you note the image instead of just the license? It's NOT the same image. -- ~y (talk) 03:45, 14 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Yathin, "it is perfectly acceptable for them to license the same image under different terms on different sites". So you can have a CC-BY-SA-NC at Flickr and CC-BY-SA at here (like mine). Ref: User_talk:Hwttdz#File:Haliaeetus albicilla (Svolvær, 2012).jpg. (I just noticed that you changed the license of a few images in Flickr. No need if you don't like it. Keep contributing here.) "Happy Diwali!"

[edit]
While Diwali is popularly known as the "festival of lights", the most significant spiritual meaning behind it is "the awareness of the inner light". It is the belief that there is something beyond the physical body and mind which is pure, infinite, and eternal, called the Atman. The celebration of Diwali as the "victory of good over evil” refers to the light of higher knowledge dispelling all ignorance, the ignorance that masks one's true nature, not as the body, but as the unchanging, infinite, immanent and transcendent reality. With this awakening come compassion and the awareness of the oneness of all things (higher knowledge). This brings Satcitananda (joy or peace). Just as we celebrate the birth of our physical being, Diwali is the celebration of this Inner Light. While the story behind Diwali and the manner of celebration varies from region to, the essence is the same – to rejoice in the Inner Light! And this year Diwali and All Souls' Day come together to fully defeat the Evil! "Happy Diwali!"JKadavoor Jee 06:01, 2 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Round 2 of Picture of the Year 2013 is open!

[edit]
2012 Picture of the Year: A pair of European Bee-eaters in Ariège, France.

Dear Wikimedians,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2013 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the eighth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2013) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. The top 30 overall and the most popular image in each category have continued to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just one image to become the Picture of the Year.

Round 2 will end on 7 March 2014. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/Commons:Picture_of_the_Year/2013/Introduction/en Click here to learn more and vote »]
