Tip: Categorizing images

Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

A ještě jednu věc ke kategorizaci. Podle c:Categorisation se obrázky mají zařazovat jen do "nejnižší (tj. nejspecifičtější) možné kategorie". Fotografie Lázní Libverda tudíž patří jen do kategorie "Lázně Libverda", nikoli však do kategorie "Czech Republic". Embassies

Správné kategorie by měly být Canadian, Norwegian, Brazilian, Peruvian, Thai, já vím, sám jsem v některých názvech fotek udělal chybu, ale měla by to být adjektiva ne názvy států - viz názvy kategorií u jiných měst. Jinak díky ... Krokodyl (talk) 09:25, 1 April 2012 (UTC)

Adresa jako název kategorie

Zdravím. Narazil jsem na pár tebou založených kategorií (mimochodem, díky za pěkné fotky i pečlivé popisování a kategorizaci) a to přivedlo moji pozornost k historii tvých editací, konkrétně tebou založených kategorií pojmenovaných podle konkrétní adresy. Tvoje zvyklosti se totiž trochu liší od mých a tudíž by se mi zdálo vhodné hledat nějakou cestu ke sjednocení. Každý z nás asi svůj styl hledá tak, že se nejprve dívá, co používají ostatní, a co se mu zdá nejlepší, toho se pak drží. Já jsem se prozatím ustálil na této praxi:

  • Lze-li budovu pojmenovat podle účelu a je-li takové pojmenování dostatečně určité, preferuji jej před adresou (to je u nás na české Wikipedii celkem obvyklé, ale všiml jsem si, že v některých jazycích/zemích dělali přejmenování kategorií opačným směrem, tedy z názvu na adresu). Pokud takové označení není v českém prostředí vnímáno jako vlastní jméno, upřednostňuji přívlastek s předložkovou vazbou (Sokol house in..., Church of Saint Andrew in...), pokud má blíže k vlastnímu jménu, pak upřednostňuji nepřeložený český název s případným rozlišovačem v závorce - ovšem v praxi existuje mnoho přechodných a mezních typů - třeba všelijaká ta Národní divadla a podobně, vlastně i ty kostely, takže někdy i vlastní jméno je lépe přeložit, jindy je zase ustálené obecné označení natolik specifické, že i rodilý Angličan by budovu v mapě či Googlem našel spíše pod českým názvem než pod ad hoc přeloženým.
  • Pokud v daném sídelním útvaru nejsou pojmenovány ulice a tedy ani přidělena čísla orientační, používal jsem původně názvy kategorií ve formátu "Kotěhůlky 6", avšak nedávno jsem se začal přiklánět k názvů typu "Kotěhůlky čp. 6", protože v některých městečkách se to mohlo plést s jakýmsi označením obvodů či místních částí, někde i s orientačními čísly (je mnoho městeček, kde kdysi byla zavedena orientační čísla a na některých domech jsou dosud vyznačena, ale v oficiálním registru adres už nejsou a nově se nepřidělují). Ze dvou správných obvyklých variant zkratky ("čp." a "č. p.") a jedné chybné ("č.p.") jsem vybral tu nejkratší. Pokud existuje více sídelních útvarů téhož názvu (zejména jsou-li některé další také místními částmi s vlastní řadou čísel popisných), snažím se pamatovat na rozlišovač, ten však umisťuji standardním způsobem až za adresu (jedině na konci kategorie funguje v software MediaWiki technicky skutečně jako rozlišovač - tj. lze například v odkazu potlačit svislítkem), nikoliv hned na název sídla (je to lepší i kvůli našeptávači, když by někdo adresu zadával).
  • Pokud v daném sídelním útvaru jsou pojmenovány ulice, většinou pro název kategorie používám formát "Ulice číslo" (Národní 36). Nemá-li taková obec (či jednotlivá budova) číslo orientační, snažím se také použít zkratku "čp." (protože v obci s pojmenovanými ulicemi je příliš pravděpodobné, že tam někdy čísla orientační byla anebo že by mohla být zavedena). Má-li budova číslo orientační, používám v názvu kategorie jen to. Nějakou dobu jsem váhal a dosud váhám, protože popisná čísla jsou přece jen starší a stabilnější, ale pro řazení a hledání v kategorii podle adresy jsou orientační čísla hned za názvem ulice o něco vhodnější. Lomítkům se vyhýbám, protože mohou v různých skriptech působit problémy, ostatně např. v názvech souborů je ani nelze použít. Převracet pořadí na orientační/popisné už by vůbec nebyl dobrý nápad. Je-li nutný rozlišovač (protože v jiné obci může existovat ulice téhož názvu, popřípadě má nějaká obec stejný název jako daná ulice), používám jej opět až za číslem ("Husova 14 (Rakovník)").
  • Problémem zůstávají ta města, kde je zvykem rohové či blokové budovy či budovy s více vchody či průčelími přiřazovat k více adresám zároveň, tedy například přířazovat je k více ulicím zároveň, dávat jim více čísel orientačních (pro jednotlivé vchody anebo přiřazené ulice) apod. Někdy se dá vytušit, která z těch adres je hlavní (podle adres organizací či živnostníků sídlících v dané budově), pak postupuji podle předchozího bodu a pro budovu použiji jen tuto adresu. Ve složitějších případech zatím volím z širší škály řešení: buď přece jen vybrat jednu z adres, i když se ty adresy jeví rovnocenné, nebo upřednostním označení názvem čtvrti a číslem popisným před adresou s názvem ulice a číslem orientačním, anebo použiji v názvu kategorie dvě adresy zároveň (formát "Smetanovo nábřeží 6 - Divadelní 5").

Nehrnu se do toho, že bych "svoje" nebo "cizí" kategorie chtěl hromadně přejmenovávat, i když časem možná i na to někde dojde, aspoň při sjednocování v rámci jedné ulice či města. Spíš to myslím jako námět k zamyšlení, zda se od sebe vzájemně můžeme inspirovat či vůbec se časem na nějaké praxi ustálit. Není to nic, co by bylo nutno lámat přes koleno, ale přece jen se v tom pak lépe orientuje. --ŠJů (talk) 21:35, 12 January 2014 (UTC)

Zdravím, já se nějaké standardizaci nebráním. Jak správně uvádíš, sám jsem si nějakou stanovil, když jsem před tím problémem s umístěním fotografií stál a nic vhodnějšího (či ustálenějšího) jsem nenašel.
Výše popsaný přehled se mi zdá příliš složitý. Pro snadnější začleňování by, myslím, bylo vhodné sestavit jasná jednoduchá pravidla (ideálně třeba i s nějakým základním česko-anglickým slovníčkem). --Jan Polák (talk) 19:48, 15 January 2014 (UTC)
