Nova
Hi, there are two images uploaded the same way. When I put my imagine, this looks like this: [1]. Why?--Baku (talk) 00:13, 19 November 2017 (UTC)
- @Baku: Renamed to File:SantaMariaNova 2017.jpg. Now it should work. The local filename has priority over the filename on Commons; that's why the wrong image showed up on IT-wiki. --Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 00:17, 19 November 2017 (UTC)
- By the way: Could you please add categories to your pictures? Thanks!! --Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 00:19, 19 November 2017 (UTC)
Ok, I did it.--Baku (talk) 00:22, 19 November 2017 (UTC)
My Photograph of Paisley Park
Hi, and thanks for replying. I don't think the photograph should appear on Wikipedia, since I was not given prior authorization. I was 19 years old at the time I took the photograph and at home from college on my first spring break. I was taking many photographs of places I used to frequent or that had a special significance to my life before returning to college in upstate New York. As I was driving home that day after taking photographs in and around my hometown, I noticed the sky was magnificent above Prince's studio, Paisley Park (note that I did not know it was also Prince's home at the time). I then noticed the gates to his studio were open, which was uncommon (also note that I lived about a mile away from Paisley Park in a neighborhood on the same road since I was a young child). On this day, being a freshman in college, I did not see anything wrong with driving into the parking lot to take a good photograph of the studio for Wikipedia. I spent maybe 10 minutes trying to get at least one photograph as perfect as possible before leaving respectfully. When I got home several minutes later, I uploaded what I thought was an almost perfect photograph to Wikipedia. I had photographed other important places to Wikipedia for the previous 3-4 years. I deleted many, if not all, of these photographs a few years later. While I think this photograph is good artistically, I don't think it belongs on the Wikimedia Commons or Wikipedia because of my unauthorized entrance to Prince's studio and home. I hope you can understand my predicament. I am willing to discuss this matter with you further if necessary.
Sincerely,
Nick Scribner

Hi. This user page probably was unprotected as a vandalism lightning rod / sensor, as mine was on 1 October. — Jeff G. ツ 04:02, 15 November 2017 (UTC)

- File:Muahmer1.jpg
- File:Shtëpia nga këndi perëndimor.jpg
- File:Pamje e shtëpisë nga para.jpg
- I cant Understand why i did it with my camera when i was in my village , they are mines , i can't understand why ??? Zmarlind5 .
- They are on the available on the web as well. You need to follow the instructions here: OTRS. --Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 19:10, 15 November 2017 (UTC)
- Yeah but the images you deleted to me i made it with my hand and i uploaded them 1 year ago , i didn't do a copyright from the chrome or another web page.. User:Zmarlind5 22:55 , 15 November 2017 (CET)
- (talk page stalker) This is grounds for COM:UD, per COM:AGF. @Hedwig in Washington: Did you check whether the instances of these photos you found online were previous to the Commons uploads? -- Tuválkin ✉ ✇ 00:42, 16 November 2017 (UTC)

- @Zmarlind5 and Tuvalkin: This was my mistake, sorry. I restored the images, added the correct license (PD-Kosos-Gov, because it's where those files are to be found), added categories and created a new category for the village: Category:Prilepnica. Again, I am sorry for making this blunder. --Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 22:17, 16 November 2017 (UTC)

Dear Hedwig,
You deleted a few pictures because you though copyright was breached. It wasn't and I informed you already that I had permission. The copyright holder actually emailed his standard release form to Commons. Still, it was removed and I can't get them back on the web. Now that the owner emailed his per mission (last Monday 13 Nov 17) can you please put them back again. I tried to do that myself and then the system says that the pictures were never deleted, but If I try to insert them, they are...

Best, Qudz --Qudz (talk) 15:07, 16 November 2017 (UTC)
- @Qudz: Yes, copyright can be a bitch sometimes. The problem here is that we don't know if you are the artist himself. We have no way to verify it, that's why we have the OTRS system implemented. Please have a look at OTRS and follow the guidelines. We do have a backlog, so it may take some time to process. If everything checks out ok, the files will be restored. --Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 22:23, 16 November 2017 (UTC)
Dear :@Hedwig in Washington: This is incredible, how often must I explain that I am not the artist (copyright holder), but that I received his permission, that the artist (copyright holder) forwarded this permission to Commons, but that it seems impossible to get pictures on a wiki page? It is not that copyright is a bitch, it is that new contributors are not taken seriously by actually reading what they have to say. You could have helped me better by reading a bit more thoroughly, advise me and then it would have saved us both a lot of time. Anyway, not even worth the hustle any more.--Qudz (talk) 12:26, 20 November 2017 (UTC)
- @Qudz: You never told me that you are NOT the copyright holder. If the copyright holder did send a valid permission, the files will be restored. I'm sorry you feel neglected, it is difficult to actually help everybody. Please remember that we are all volunteers here. Do you happen to know the OTRS ticket number? --Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 19:17, 20 November 2017 (UTC)

Micaela Monterosso
Hello Hedwig, btw of this user that you blocked for unfree material, the poor one is the wife of the person pictured, she just doesn't know the rules of Commons. She's actually the graphic designer of her husband's CD cover and wanted to post a picture she made but made a mess with the licence. (and of course she thought that the problem was that a photo from Facebook couldn't be uploaded but from Flickr could...) :D -- SERGIO (aka the Blackcat) 16:45, 17 November 2017 (UTC)
- @Blackcat: Done. Thanks for looking out for her, I rather like the photograph. I'll restore it and add {{OTRS pending}}. Would you be so nice to instruct the lady how to use OTRS? I added a few categories as well. --Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 05:11, 18 November 2017 (UTC)
- I'll tell her. Possibly I'll suggest her to take less uncontroversial photographs and to upload them on commons prior to publish them anywhere else. -- SERGIO (aka the Blackcat) 14:24, 18 November 2017 (UTC)
- @Blackcat: Sounds good. I overshot the goal a little, I think. Anyway, if they have a webpage (I didn't find one) they can always post the photographs there and show a CC-license, like underneath or so. Thanks for your help! As usual. --Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 22:04, 18 November 2017 (UTC)

Deletions of original music files
Hi... I just realized that five files that one of my students from Wiki Learning Tec de Monterrey, have been deleted. , , , , . I need to know what we (Wiki Learning Tec de Monterrey) can do to remedy this situation. We do a lot of multimedia work and need music in appropriate licenses. Lucky for us, we have sound recording and engineering students who can help us with this. If you need an OTRS letter, I can arrange this. Thank you!Thelmadatter (talk) 18:37, 17 November 2017 (UTC)
- @Thelmadatter: The problem was that a colleague tagged the files for lacking permission and the uploader didn't react within a given timeframe (7 days). It needs to be specified who wrote the music and therefore (usually) holds the copyright. We require this for all media on Commons. Sending permission using OTRS is a good idea, but the permission has to be send by the copyright holder. Hope it helps. --Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 05:18, 18 November 2017 (UTC)
- Please let me see if I understand this correctly. The uploader is the author of the music and of the interpretation (recording). Does he need simply to indicate this in the description? If so, how can this be done if the file has been erased? Can he reupload? I am hoping I can get him to do this as he is in finals and graduates in a couple of weeks. He has already gotten his school credit for this project.Thelmadatter (talk) 16:16, 21 November 2017 (UTC)
- @Thelmadatter: Let's cut through red tape and bureaucracy. I need to have something in hand so that I can verify the case:

COM:CONSENT redirects here. For information about consent to deal with photographs of people, see Commons:Photographs of identifiable people.
If you have been directed to this page because you wish to release the rights to a file to which you own the copyright, please consider clicking on the link above rather than completing the following email template. The Interactive Release Generator is designed to make the process of releasing the rights to a file efficient and simple. The use of the following template, though still perfectly valid and certainly useful as a work of reference, is now discouraged and should only be used in exceptional circumstances. Thank you! Email message template for release of rights to a fileWe receive a large number of email messages from copyright holders wishing to allow Wikipedia to reuse their content (messages such as, "I allow Wikipedia to reuse my photos", etc.). Unfortunately, such statements are insufficient from a legal standpoint: we require a more specific declaration of consent to accept your permission. The following template will allow you to produce such a declaration.

Request Unblock my Account
Dear Hedwing, I specially request you to unblock my account. It is so discouraging for you to block me because of multiple images you assumed to be a violation of wiki commons rule.
I have contributed much on Wikipedia and should not be blocked without warning, notice and debate.
Kindly review this
Wikinaija (talk) 09:43, 20 November 2017 (UTC)
- You have been warned not to upload unfree media. You violated our rules and ignored the warnings. Therefore your account has been blocked for one week in compliance with our rules. Looking over your contributions here and on the EN-wiki I see that you have problems understanding rules, especially copyright rules. Do yourself a favor and read those rules. The next violation of copyright here on Commons will result in an even longer block. There is no reason and no room to debate copyright law. It is what it is. Best of luck, --Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 19:24, 20 November 2017 (UTC)

A3cb1 IP blocks
I shortened your block of 95.248.92.128 (talk • contribs • WHOIS • RBL • abusefilter • tools • guc • stalktoy • block user • block log) because those Telecom Italia IPs change quickly. We block him on one, and he comes back with a different one the next day, so 3 months is as likely to catch an innocent Italian user as A3cb1. Sadly we can't do much without blocking half of Italy. OK? --Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 05:15, 22 November 2017 (UTC)

- @Jon Kolbert: Could you help me out and give the user an introduction into OTRS and project scope? I hope I didn't make to many mistakes in my FR response. Nothing left from all the hard work in school. Thanks for your time! Oh, the DR is here: Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by Saveurs France, if you want to take a looksee.--Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 05:07, 22 November 2017 (UTC)
- @Saveurs France: Salut! --Saveurs France (talk) 01:27, 23 November 2017 (UTC)

Single Art
If you can’t upload copyrighted single art to Wikipedia then why are there lots and lots of single arts on Wikipedia? Also how do you upload single art to Wikipedia without getting a copyright strike? DatBoy101 (talk) 23:15, 23 November 2017 (UTC)
- @DatBoy101: This here is Commons, not Wikipedia. We HAVE to adhere to stricter rules than the English Wikipedia. You can get away on enwiki with a rule called fair use. You find more info on enwiki: w:en:Wikipedia:Non-free content. You'll need to get help over there, we have no influence on wikipedias. --Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 02:12, 28 November 2017 (UTC)
Deleted file 23 November File:1978 Vetter Racer.jpg
Could you please confirm and quote for me the upload details including the Username and date on this, from the 'non-public' view I know you are able to access? I believed the original was correctly used on WP and was a Craig Vetter organisation library image - nothing to do with www.caferacer.net/forums which would have copied it without acknowledgement to the original, or to the licence - being an un-regulated website. Thank you.--Rocknrollmancer (talk) 03:49, 26 November 2017 (UTC)

Advice
Hello.
I was nominating the File:Azerbaijanilanguage.png because it is a duplicate of File:Azerilanguage.png which is not based on any sources and is an original research and I discovered that you protected this file because of edit wars. I initally put the deletion request in Commons:Deletion requests/File:Azerbaijanilanguage.png, but could not put it on the actual page of this file due to its protection.
What is your recommendation?
