Our first steps tour and our frequently asked questions will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy (Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content). You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold when contributing and assume good faith when interacting with others. This is a wiki. More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). File:Cover of Elephanz album.jpg has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.
The file you added may soon be deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please replace the copyvio tag with {{subst:OP}} and have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you disagree that the file is a copyright violation for any other reason, please replace the copyvio tag with a regular deletion request.

See Commons:Licensing for the copyright policy on Wikimedia Commons, and Commons:Image casebook for some specific examples. Some other Wikimedia projects have different licensing policies. For example, the English Wikipedia allows fair use of sounds and photographs. This is not the case on Wikimedia Commons; "fair use" materials are not acceptable here.
Please make sure that you only upload educational content you have created yourself, those which are out of copyright, or those for which you have the required permission for the work to be used in all the ways described above. Please note that derivative works of copyrighted material are also considered copyrighted. Again, please read through Commons:Licensing, which is quite crucial, to understanding how Wikimedia Commons works. Thanks for your contribution, and please do leave me a message if you have further questions. And also:

Copyright violations
[edit]
Hello Samybh Affectionldn.
You have uploaded one or more files that are copyright violations. You have done so despite requests from editors not to do so, and despite their instructions. See Commons:Licensing for the copyright policy on Wikimedia Commons. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules by subject matter useful. This is your last warning. The next time you upload a file that violates copyright, you will be blocked. Please leave me a message if you have further questions. |
If you want to use the images that are already on the web, please send proof of permission to OTRS to show that the copyright holder of these images do want to have it here, on Commons. If you keep recreating unfree images without proof, you may be blocked for a week or two by an admin until you do so; otherwise you'll have to wait out your block here and reupload it on your local wiki with fair use rationale details in the meantime. theinstantmatrix (talk) 02:53, 17 November 2017 (UTC)
Also: Just because you're saying that you're the "author of this cover, owner of the masters right of this record and have the authorisation of the band to publish it on their Wikipedia page!" and "the use of this is totally lawful" doesn't automatically mean you're free to upload these images to a repository consisting of only freely usable media. Wikimedia Commons require explicit proof for media that's already on the web: to show that the band themselves wanted to upload their works here, on Commons. That's what the OTRS is for. Please send proof before you end up getting blocked here for continuing to upload unfree images without proof and having the whole band let you down. theinstantmatrix (talk) 03:18, 17 November 2017 (UTC)
Firstly, who are you to basically decide to remove content whitout even doing your due dilligence. Your behaviour is leading me to think that Wikipedia as a tool does not work properly. we are a medium sized band in France and updating the Wikipedia page because of people like you has proven a nightmare. I have better things to do that keep on reuploading the same images. Then read what I have posted: No I don t 'want to use the images that are already on the web'!! I am using images which I own/coown and/or have permission from the band and permission from Spotify to use ! I have asked precise questions (what would you consider a proof of authorisation?) but the only same useless answers 'lease send proof before you end up getting blocked' I mean seriously!! Serious waste of my time! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Samybh Affectionldn (talk • contribs) 06:53, 17 November 2017 (UTC)
Please do not recreate deleted content

- Same for all the other reuploads. I told you a few days ago to use OTRS. If you continue to upload unfree images your account will be blocked. --Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 03:23, 17 November 2017 (UTC)

[edit]As a courtesy to other editors, it is Commons:Signatures policy to sign your posts on talk pages, user talk pages, deletion requests, and noticeboards. To do so, simply add four tildes (~~~~) at the end of your comments. Your user name or IP address (if you are not logged in) and the date will then automatically be added along with a timestamp when you save your comment. Signing your comments helps people to find out who said something and provides them with a link to your user/talk page (for further discussion). Thank you.
