Please tag your images
Thank you for providing images to Wikimedia Commons. Please keep in mind that images and other files on Commons must be under a free license and should be useful to the Wikimedia projects. To allow others to use your files, some additional information must be given on the description page. Most importantly:
- Describe what it is about in a short sentence. (What does the image show?)
- State the author and the date of creation. If you made it yourself, say so explicitly. If it is from another Wikimedia user, link to the person's local user page. Best to use CommonsHelper.
- If you did not create the file yourself, state the source you got it from.
- Add a copyright tag - images without an appropriate license tag will be deleted.
- Add the image to one or more gallery pages and/or appropriate categories, so it can be found by others. To find out where an image belongs, you can use CommonsSense.
If you copied the file from another wiki, please copy all information given there and say who uploaded it to that wiki. Use CommonsHelper.
It is recommended to use Template:Information to put that information on the description page. Have a look at Template talk:Information for details of the use of this template.
You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file.
Please add as much information as possible. If there is not sufficient information, the file may have to be deleted. For more information, follow the Commons:First steps guide. If you need help or have questions, please ask at the Help desk.
Thank you. Abigor talk 17:45, 21 December 2008 (UTC)
Signatures
Hi, I have just created a Category named 'Signatures of First Ladies of the United States', I hope you don't mind I have been categorizing some of your recent uploads with this category (btw don't forget to categorize your files). Cheers. Lobo (howl?) 06:02, 28 May 2009 (UTC) Sorry for my English

Problem with image
Hi,
There seems to be a small error in the recent image you've uploaded. You have forgotten to remove a small green patch from the source file (Oman), the patch is located on the lower right. Thank you for your contributions! Feel free to leave a message here if anything. Regards. Rehman Abubakr (talk) 06:37, 11 June 2009 (UTC).

Napoleon signature
Hi Connormah, thanks for uploading a Napoleon signature, there are a few here Category: Autographs of Napoleon I of France. The source stated needs to be something such as a document or book. tpbradbury (talk) 15:41, 16 July 2009 (UTC)
Signatures
Hi, signatures are considered in many countries works of art and are copyright of the signee. So the license that you are adding as your own work is incorrect. In fact some of them cannot be accepted if the country's law does not accept them as public domain. For people from the US and Germany you can use Template:PD-signature, but please review Commons:When to use the PD-signature tag before uploading any more signatures. Thanks. --Ferengi (talk) 17:59, 17 July 2009 (UTC)
File tagging File:Wilkes Barre Flag1.jpg
This media was probably deleted.
|
Thanks for uploading File:Wilkes Barre Flag1.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the No permission since tag with on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.
Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own). The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded (:File:Wilkes Barre Flag1.jpg ) and the above demanded information in your request. |

I find it very unlikely that you drew this image, given your unfamiliarity with vectorization. If you either traced an image, or found this image elsewhere you need to give the source. That being said this image is unlikely PD-self. The image might be PD-US but you would need proof that the seal was designed before 1923.--Svgalbertian (talk) 16:55, 1 August 2009 (UTC)

Galileo Galilei Signature
Your recent signature of Galileo Galilei lists the Source of the signature as "Own work by uploader."
If it is, in fact, a signature by Galileo Galilei it is his work, not yours.
Secondly, the claim does not provide the true source of the signature. Please provide information about the manuscript source from which your .svg file was abstracted.
Note that signatures of this age may very well fall under the permission normally granted to reproductions of two dimensional works of art.
Please reply on my Wikipedia page as I do not follow Wikimedia regularly. --SteveMcCluskey (talk) 01:39, 29 August 2009 (UTC)

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.71.141.227.66 02:43, 9 October 2009 (UTC)

PS: I'm really sorry I can't work on SVG request that's why I can't do anything for your request. Since there is another Wikigraphist who can do this request, I inform you this information. Ivan Akira (talk) 02:24, 7 August 2010 (UTC)

Files you uploaded may be deleted
The files listed below, which you uploaded, have been tagged OTRS pending for more than 30 days. This tag indicates that an email setting out permission to use the file was sent to the OTRS team. Unfortunately, we cannot find any record that such an email has been received, and accordingly the file remains without permission. Unless the OTRS team receives evidence that permission has been granted within 15 days of today's date, the file will be deleted. If you have not sent the permission, please send it to "permissions-commonswikimedia.org" now. Please quote the file name in your email. If you have, please leave a message at the OTRS noticeboard, quoting the file name, so that a volunteer can follow this up. Alternatively, you can contact an OTRS volunteer directly. Please note that this message is being left by an automated bot, whose operator is not an OTRS volunteer, therefore please do not send this information to me, as it will not save your images from deletion. File tagging File:NWTCoA.svg
This media was probably deleted.

Thanks for uploading File:NWTCoA.svg.
Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded (:File:NWTCoA.svg ) and the above demanded information in your request. |

Categorization
Hello. I don't mean to be a pest, but your refusal to categorize any of the images that you upload is giving me some concern. The problem is compounded by the fact that many of your uploads don't have a lot of detail in the descriptions (so, for example, someone interested in the history of Alberta and/or Edmonton would never find this image in a Commons search, due to the manner in which you uploaded it). You are long-time Commons uploader, so unfamiliarity is unlikely to be the problem. You are also an admin over at en-wp, so it's pretty safe to assume that you understand the importance of good practices and guidelines on a project such as this. It also does not appear that this is a linguitic issue. A lack of categorization, coupled with incomplete descriptions, often make it more difficult for Commons users to find images, which runs counter to the fundamental objectives of the Commons. You are such a prolific uploader (thank you), that the lack of categorization not only makes your valuable contributions harder to locate, but you are also creating a fair amount of work for other Commons volunteers who then need to provide categories and refine the descriptions of all your uploads.
I apologize if any of my past posts have been impatient or harsh. I'm not trying to be an ass about this. Your behaviour (and your refusal to acknowledge over the years any of the notes on your talk page about this issue) is somewhat perplexing, given your experience and stature over at en-wp. If there is anything I could do to help, please let me know. Would it be more helpful if I left you a note over on the en-wp talk page? Cheers, --Skeezix1000 (talk) 18:11, 31 May 2011 (UTC)
- Don't worry about the previous posts, I didn't take them as harsh or what not. This is one of my bad habits, not categorizing, though some images I am not sure which categories to add them to, like the example you posted above. Will try and at least add one cat per image, though I may forget the one odd time. BTW, I only removed the excessive notes on my take page (probably dating back to my first upload here) because they were creating problems for my browser. Connormah (talk | contribs) 21:51, 31 May 2011 (UTC)

Tip: Categorizing images

More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.Hedwig in Washington (MAIL?) 04:17, 29 February 2012 (UTC)

Connormah, could you straighten out the infobox images here? At least on the Hanna one, that is cut from a larger image which I think we also have. In case it goes live before, the article is United States Senate elections in Ohio, 1898. Thanks.--Wehwalt (talk) 18:50, 20 June 2012 (UTC)

Signatures
Over the years, you've uploaded a lot of images of signatures. And you haven't always included proper metadata; in particular, you've often been uploading them as "own work". The only signature you can rightly claim to be your own work is yours. The signature is the work of the person whose signature it is. I'm going through and fixing your uploads; this is just so you know for next time. DS (int:Talkpagelinktext) 14:51, 23 January 2015 (UTC)
- Also, the date that a signature was made? That's no later than the person's death. Regardless of the date of the publication in which you found it. For instance, File:Judah Benjamin Signature.svg can be from no later than May 6, 1884. DS (int:Talkpagelinktext) 14:54, 23 January 2015 (UTC)

US Rep pages
I'm confused. I uploaded a number of congressional photos from websites that have now been deleted because of possible copyright violations. I feel I've been singled out, as there are other images that have been posted for a longer period of time are still published and on wikimedia commons and wikipedia.
Photos I've uploaded that have been deleted or nominated for deletion:

- File:Tom Suozzi.jpg
- File:Mike Johnson.jpg
- File:Val Demings.jpg
- File:Nanette barragan.jpg
- File:Rep. Jack Bergman.jpg
- File:Don Bacon.jpg
- File:Tom Garrett Jr.jpg
- File:Jodey Arrington.jpg
- File:Claudia Tenney.jpg
Files uploaded by others using the same sources and still available on commons and wikipedia:
- File:Neal Dunn, official portrait, 115th Congress.jpg
- File:Charlie Crist, official portrait, 115th Congress.jpg
- File:Francis Rooney official congressional photo.jpg
- File:Lloyd Smucker official congressional photo.jpg
- File:Kustoff2.jpg (this appears to be a source that is not in the public domain)
Please either restore the images or tell me how my images are different than the ones I listed that are still available on commons...Pvmoutside (int:Talkpagelinktext) 07:44, 13 January 2017 (UTC)
