TM dilution
[edit]That's what I was trying to say when I was talking about the Opera and AIM similar-but-different icons. But TM dilution is a different-but-related concern than copyright. So I remain unsure. As for Commons:Licensing, that's anyone's guess. pfctdayelise (translate?) 00:17, 3 March 2006 (UTC)
Hello! Thank you for taking the time to vote for me in my recent request for adminship. It ended with a final score of (8/10) and hece failed to reach concensus. I value all of the contributions made during the process and I will take a special note of the constructive criticism regarding interacting with users in the user talk space. If you have questions, or requests, please leave a message. --Cool CatTalk|@ 12:48, 8 March 2006 (UTC) |
Unfortunately this image is not free. Please read Terms of use. --EugeneZelenko 19:38, 11 March 2006 (UTC)
Vector-Images.com can only license the EPS file as-is. That Copyright notice applies only to original works.
As the coat of arms itself is public domain, vector-images.com can only license the exact vector image that they created without modification. As soon as we converted this image to SVG, it reverted to the original license. The terms of use can only apply only to original work by vector-images.com, not their rendition of existing public domain images. Cary "Bastique" Bass parler voir 14:48, 12 March 2006 (UTC)
- I don't sure about that. Why vectorization itself could not be copyrighted? I think good idea to ask vector-images.com for clarification. --EugeneZelenko 15:43, 12 March 2006 (UTC)
- That would be silly. Whatever answer they give you will be in their own interest. They will tell you they own the copyright because you may send them money to secure your use of it. But the Russian COA is ineligible for copyright because it's a Public Domain image. No matter who created the graphic. You cannot copyright a Coat of Arms belonging to another entity. Even if you put a lot of hard work into it. Cary "Bastique" Bass parler voir 15:49, 12 March 2006 (UTC)
- But they don't copyright COA itself, just their vector version of it. I wonder about theri business model, because Russsian cities COA are claimed (at least on Commons) to be PD too... --EugeneZelenko 16:09, 12 March 2006 (UTC)
Old version deletion
[edit]Hi Bastique, could you do me a favor? Could you go to Image:Sunglass.jpg and delete the old version (the one that Kjetil r uploaded)? I really don't want that picture of me to be available anymore. Thanks! Angr 08:10, 2 April 2006 (UTC)

Block expiration
[edit]Hi Bastique. I just want to point out that the way blocks expire is not what you expect. The block expires when the shortest block period ends, so if you want to block someone indefinitely, you have to first unblock them. For example, you blocked User:Glassickglass for a day, then 3 minutes later blocked indefinitely. The block expired after a day, and Glassickglass doesn't currently appear in Special:Ipblocklist. Cheers, User:dbenbenn 14:42, 30 April 2006 (UTC)
Abbreviations
[edit]I know; no need telling me. I just provided the explanation... Lupo 13:58, 1 May 2006 (UTC)
FYI, exact duplicates should be marked {{Duplicate}} (--> speedy delete), whereas {{Redundant}} is now for "obseleted" and similar "redundants". pfctdayelise (translate?) 10:41, 2 May 2006 (UTC)
- You may notice that it says as much on the text of {{Redundant}} :P pfctdayelise (translate?) 02:15, 3 May 2006 (UTC)

Grr
[edit]Sorry about the image copyright tag problem. I have always tried to be good about that, and was convinced to NEVER get a warning on my page. However, I do not put the info in at first, and instead do it for the file history. Sadly, my DSL is at the slowest speed ever of 22.8kbps, so I was not able to do it quick enough apparently. I guess that messed my record up. ;) I removed the warning as it did not apply. ~Linuxerist L / T 02:13, 4 May 2006 (UTC)
- Seeing as you are an admin, could you direct me as to a way to only have certain text show in the file history, yet still put the summary in at the same time? ~Linuxerist L / T 02:19, 4 May 2006 (UTC)

Iraqi_Kurdistan.jpg
[edit]I noticed you had deleted the map of Iraqi Kurdistan which I had uploaded. I do not understand your reason. ICG clearly state on their webpage that reproduction is - encouraged, not only permitted. --Vindheim 19:51, 5 May 2006 (UTC)
- The ICG website [[1]] states:
- Crisis Group encourages you to copy and distribute the Crisis Group copyrighted materials and documents found on this site (the “Crisis Group Materials”). In that regard, so long as you credit Crisis Group as the source and so long as you comply with the other terms and conditions in this notice, no permission is required to use, reproduce, copy, modify or download any of the Crisis Group Materials.
- And since the consensus at the Village pump is that ICG file are indeed released int the public domain, perhaps you could now unprotect the file, so that it can be uploaded for the pleasure of wikipedia users. --Vindheim 20:05, 7 May 2006 (UTC)
see discussion here [[2]] --Vindheim 13:53, 8 May 2006 (UTC)
- thanks for unprotecting it. --Vindheim 14:27, 8 May 2006 (UTC)
Message WikiPT
[edit]Hi, as far as I could understand the guy who sent that email was not complaining about a violation by a Wiki editor, but just the opposite...he was informing us that a external forum user copied the text from Wikipedia and posted as his work. I checked the dates of each edition (wiki article and forum post), and the text was first written in Wikipedia. At this point I don't know really what could be done... Thanks! --Dantadd 22:59, 7 May 2006 (UTC)

Re:Ouch!
[edit]Hola. Thanks for bringing that to my attention. The thing is, I was using a wikipedia category function which was designed to autoformat and autoorganize the category links so that they will always be at the bottom and such. Since that link was in the middle of the page, the bot tried to move it to the bottom. I fixed that, though, since on Commons it doesn't really matter where they put the category link, and now it only changes the actual text of the link (I think, I hope). Please let me know if he gives you any more crap. Thanks again--Orgullomoore 12:44, 9 May 2006 (UTC)
saint louis
[edit]The cat you're looking for already exists here: Category:Saint Louis, Missouri. --Bachrach44 02:17, 10 May 2006 (UTC)
- Sorry, I didn't see what you were doing at first - I thought you were creating a new page with the name St. Louis and hadn't seen the already existing cat. As for moving it from Saint Louis to St. Louis, I think that changing the cat name from the full name to an abbreviation is wrong, but as long as you have the forwards in place it doesn't matter too much. --Bachrach44 02:17, 10 May 2006 (UTC)
Can you please explain, why you reverted my edit? The image is redundant and orphan.--jed 22:13, 9 May 2006 (UTC)
Hi, if an image has no source it doesn't matter if it is being used AFAIK we cannot keep it on commons. We have another free image here Image:Major00.jpg. Regards Arniep 22:23, 11 May 2006 (UTC)
- Hello, it is not a requirement to do that, although I will replace with the other image in the next couple of days. Regards Arniep 23:24, 11 May 2006 (UTC)

RfA for AYArktos
[edit]Hello Bastique, many thanks for supporting me on my recent request for adminship here on Commons! It has succeeded and I am now an administrator. Please feel free to raise any issues with me on my talk page. Regards--AYArktos 10:39, 14 May 2006 (UTC)
Hi, the point is that on this image you can read in the left corner "A I C" - On the other picture Image:Claude Monet River Scene at Bennecourt, Seine.jpg you can see the whole painting. Larger images are not allways the better choice. The painting is more than 100 years old - but I don't know how old the "A I C"-sign is - maybe a copyright-problem? Thanks for all your working. Best wishes --Rlbberlin 13:56, 15 May 2006 (UTC)
Hi, just to clarify, you claimed that images must be deleted before listing for speedy deletion, but at the moment the template says: "consider checking usage of this file on all Wikimedia projects before deleting.".
which indicates that only admins should check (as non admins obviously cannot delete). If non admins are expected to check for usage the template should be reworded. Regards Arniep 10:14, 18 May 2006 (UTC)
Supression d'Articles in category "cities in Algeria" car inutiles
[edit]Bonsoir Bastique:
--Numidix 22:37, 20 May 2006 (UTC)
Bonjour Bastique :
Merci encore :)

Re avoiding adjectivals
[edit]Thanks for your notification, Cary:
- ...I think we need to avoid using the National adjective wherever possible. "of Countryname" seems to be more preferable than "Countryish"... It also makes it easier with regard to searches... I'm sure there's a substantial amount of changes like this all over.
Agree entirely; see User talk:David Kernow#Re: Further to Historical maps of Frankfurt. I've also just realised how Orgullobot seems to work re moving categories; see end of User talk:David Kernow#Using Orgullobot. Thanks for your work! Regards, David Kernow 01:00, 24 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit]I can't understand your reversion. The deprecated PD-flag tag does not provide information about license, I provided a link to justify the noncommercial tag. You must provide the correct license tag and a link to justify it. Sanbec ✉ 08:34, 25 May 2006 (UTC)
I have added the sources and changed the deprecated PD-flag to PD-self and insignia. I think PD-old is better than PD-self in this case, do you agree? Sanbec ✉ 07:45, 26 May 2006 (UTC)

Sorry to have made lose your time. It was Image:Piedra del Sol.jpg. As it concerns Mexico's history, the spanish version Piedra del Sol is best.
