First steps tutorial

Our first steps help file and our FAQ will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy. You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold contributing here and assume good faith for the intentions of others. This is a wiki - it is really easy.

Getting help

More information is available at the Community Portal. You may ask questions at the Help desk, Village Pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons. You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at Commons talk:Licensing.

Goodies, tips and tricks
  • Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your Graphics abilities.
  • All your uploads are stored in your personal Gallery
  • Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~
  • Use the CommonSense tool to find good categories for your files (then other people can find them too!)
  • To link to an image page, write this: [[:Image:Foo.jpg]], it makes this: Image:Foo.jpg
  • If you're copying files from another project, be sure to use the CommonsHelper

Stub images

Greetings Aktron

Thank you for uploading some very nice stub images. I particularly like the images for Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan. Any chance I could persuade you to create similar images for Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Kyrgyzstan? Images like these would also look really nice on the material for Greece and Latvia. Hmm, also possible. But the main goal is to use them on cs. wiki, but if we have totally about 1 article about Kazakhstan or Kyrgystan, the reason is fading. Greece could be done, Latvia or Lithuania too. But I plan to do stubs like trolleybus-stub, and other cities stubs, based on ru.wiki stubs style. --Aktron 10:48, 17 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough, but I'd promised to ask. I was thinking about the English Wikipedia where we have begun using maps on the stubs for the geographical material. Označování jazyků

Zdravím, koukal jsem, že jste *) k mé fotce berounského nádraží doplnil popisky v němčině a slovenštině, což mne samozřejmě těší, ale taky jste nahradil šablony pro jazyky vlaječkami, z čehož mám smíšené pocity. Graficky to vypadá samozřejmě lépe, ale mám k tomu jednu méně důležitou a jednu důležitou námitku.

1. Méně důležitá námitka: Pro mne osobně je asi "čitelnější" textové označení jazyků než pomocí vlajek, navíc vlajka = stát <> jazyk.

2. Důležitá námitka: Rozhodně jsem přesvědčen o tom, že označování jazyků by se mělo dělat pomocí šablon. Můžete/me zkusit přesvědčit ostatní commonisty, že bude lepší do těch šablon šoupnout vlaječky místo textů, ale nahrazovat šablony vkládáním odkazů na obrázky vlaječek považuji za krok zpět. Silně to znepřehledňuje kód stránek a de facto znemožňuje budoucí změny označení jazyků (až někdo třeba přijde na to, že místo vlaječky to má zahrát hymnu :-) ).

No, tak já vlaječky mám rád proto, protože z textu vyniknou a zlepšují orientaci. K pár obrázkům jsem je dal (většinou ke svým, + berounské nádraží). Samozřejmě, pokud se ti to nelíbí, tak to klidně vrať zpátky; bránit se nebudu. Mimochodem, překvapuje mě, že jsi aktivní na tomto projektu, když si zanechal práce na cs.wiki :-) --Aktron 00:22, 30 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fajn, asi to tedy převedu z výše uvedených důvodů zpět na šablony. Mně se vlaječky na pohled taky líbí víc, ale takhle to myslím vážně není dobré řešení.

Jinak důvody, proč jsem zanechal práce na cs.wiki, jsem popsal na své tamní uživatelské stránce, neshledal jsem zatím žádný důvod k revizi svých názorů, a commons se tyto důvody, aspoň doufám, nijak netýkají. --Radouch 11:17, 30 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ruský dopravní pahýl

Tam žádný vláček s vlajkou nebyl. Přece bych to neměnil za opravdu nouzový výtvor. Ta šablona byla bez fotky, proto jsem to dělal.--Ervinpospisil 01:00, 16 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Úpravy fotografií

Ahoj. Protože nemám moc inteligentní foťák, možná polovinu svých fotek musím ještě v nějakém editoru upravovat (zejména jas). Myslím, že spoustě z tvých fotek by taky prospělo je před nahráním přiměřeně zesvětlit. Je to škoda, když docela zajímavá fotka je nepoužitelná jen kvůli tomu, že je přetmavlá. For the panoramics I often use autostitch. It seems that there are some more pictures in your galerie which can stitch easyly by this freeware.

I don't hate anyone for uploading bad pics. I try to help, as I was helped a lot of time with different stuff. My own pics in Wiki are taken with a handycam, so quality is not good, too. Dubai Buses

Aktron, thank you for your comment. I do not know much about different types of buses. I knew that one of the buses was a Citaro, so I assumed that all the others were too. Can you do me a favor, and look at the images in Category:Buses in Dubai and tell me which ones are not Citaros? For the descriptions, I wrote that all of them were Citaros. I want to make sure that I have the correct model to ensure that they are not used incorrectly or in a wrong article. Thank you again. Zdravím. Jak tak projíždím svůj archiv fotek hlouběji do minulosti a vybírám, co dát na Commons, tak jsem dorazil k období, kdy měl můj foťák závadu: snad to vzniklo tím, že mi do foťáku vnikla vlhkost, ale v určitém období (asi tak loňský srpen) mám na některých fotkách trochu rozpité okraje a bílé předměty jaksi vyzařují do okolí nebo dělají šmouhy (zkus se podívat třeba do Category:Mimoň), jiné fotky z téhož období jakžtakž jdou, protože ty defekty nejsou tak nápadné. Je mi ale líto celé tohle období přeskočit a všechny ty fotky odsoudit jako naproto nepoužitelné. Potřeboval bych nějakou varovnou šablonu, která by třeba upozornila, že fotka není dost kvalitní do článků (i když její informační či dokumentační hodnota je jinak zachována). Nevíš o nějakých šablonách, které lze takto vkládat jako varování, ale které přitom nevyznívají jako návrh na smazání fotky? --ŠJů 23:25, 4 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Nevím o žádných a myslím si že to není potřeba. Protože obecně - taková šablona by tady na commons jistě udělala docela bugr. Nech fotky jak jsou, možný je v budoucnu někdo nahradí kvalitnějšími, možná ne. Kolegové, prosím o Vaše vyjádření k následující kategorizaci v Commons. Už delší dobu si navzájem revertujeme s uživatelem Soman v Category:Communist labour camps in Czechoslovakia zda to má být podkategorie Category:Komunistická strana Čech a Moravy. Já se domnívám, že ano, vzhledem k tomu, že se KSČM plně neodpoutala od své minulosti a je to legální pokračovatel(ka) KSČ. Už mne tyhle revertovací války nebaví, tak bych chtěl znát váš názor. V případě, že je to zbytečné, přestanu s tím, pokud si myslíte, že ne tak mne podpořte. Já si se svým názorem úplně jistý nejsem, ale uživatele Soman, podle jeho příspěvků (extrémně levicové strany po celém světě) považuji za zaujatého. Jenom menší dotaz. Patří do kategorie Sovětský svaz i Carské Rusko? Podle vaší logiky ano, jedná se totiž také přeci o přímého pokračovatele. Celé tyhle revertační války jsou nedůstojné a zbytečné, doporučuji toho zanechat, dát prostor nadhledu a přestat s nesmysly. Díky za vyjádření, upravil jsem to, vytvořil Category:Communist Party of Czechoslovakia dal jsem do ní jako podkategorii Category:Komunistická strana Čech a Moravy, což uživatel Soman podle očekávání revertoval. Tuchoměřice, železniční trať Kladno-Kralupy nad Vltavou

I dopravní expert se někdy utne, tohle je totiž trať Hostivice - Podlešín, ty dvě se v Zákolanech kříží jen mimoúrovňově. :-)) A já dneska moknul s fotoaparátem jen o pár km dál skrze Želenice a Knovíz. Radost mi udělaly zvlášť ty obrázky kaplí z Malých Číčovic (ušetřila cestu) a Zákolan (ušetřila nahrávání). Okořský viadukt mám ještě z druhé strany, až bude čas, přidám. Jenom, protože je to všechno můj domovský kraj, jsem v tomhle případě háklivější na pečlivé popisky ještě víc než jindy, jak prozrazuje hromada nedávných editací na dotyčných přírůstcích. Takže pojmenovávání a popiskování prosím provádět raději pomaleji a důkladněji. Názvy kostelů, směr pohledu, odkud kam atp. Když už to píšu, ještě bych využil příležitosti k poradě: Přibývají nám tu stovky obrázků tratí, nádraží, mostů atd. Jeví se nanejvýš účelným, začít většině těch obrázků přiřazovat i kategorii železniční trati. Tu ovšem urgentně vyvstává otázka nad formátem pojmenování příslušných kategorií. Na cs: máme články většinou nazvané odkud kam, ale já bych řekl, že sem se pro svou jednoduchost možná víc hodí systém číslování traťových úseků podle JŘ, tedy něco jako Category:Railway line 170 in the Czech Republic (s tím, že 171 může být třeba podkategorií). Většinu tratí a snímků to pokryje a navíc se to mnohem přehledněji řadí a pročítá než desítky kategorií s názvy měst. Slovní pojmenování by pak měly jen trati historické atp. Hmm, není to poprvé, kdy jsem se opravdu seknul o pár km vedle u popisku obrázku a názvu souboru. Kategorizace podle čísel ČD je vskutku dobrý nápad, dost pravděpodobně s tím asi tedy začnu, pokud budu ještě nahrávat obrázky nějakých tratí (což jako nepochybně jo) - současná praxe je tak trochu pozůstatkem z práce na moskevském metru (tj. pojmenování Obec1-Obec2), které mi sice příjde odolné vůči případným změnám ČD (nechci vidět situaci, kdy to všechno zakategorizujeme a v pátém patře budovy ČD vydají klíčové rozhodnutí to všechno přečíslovat :-). Co se týče pečlivosti popisků, ano, trochu jsem převzal systém jednoho nejmenovaného wikipedisty, který to dělá podle názvu obce pro zjednodušení. Směr pohledu a lepší pojmenování není problém a dá se zařídit (obdobně jsem si již vyhrál s fotkama Varšavy, viz III. galerie), zde jsem po 28 km a totálním vyčerpání :-) se rozhodl pro to "ať to konečně už je". --Aktron 08:51, 3 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Image:Otvovice, pohled na jižní část obce.jpg není podle mě zrovna příliš problematický obrázek; dal jsem si dobrý pozor, aby při zabírání místa jsem přešel už hranici mezi obcemi (na souběžné silnici vyznačeno cedulemi s názvy obcí), pravda, kus Zákolan tam nepochybně bude a v popisu/názvu souboru zmíněn být mohl.
