No Kerala or other Indian states

Language

What would happen if you would translate this banner in French or Mandarin and then broadcast that on each and every wiki I wonder. Particularly the Engliah wiki?

Liberty Cap

Ok - according to the NRHP, Mammoth Hot Springs is listed in the register, so would photographs of landmarks such as the Liberty Cap and the hot springs terraces be eligible for this contest? Atsme 📞 14:03, 1 September 2018 (UTC)

@Atsme: Good question! Unfortunately not. The Mammoth Hot Springs Historic District is the NRHP part of the park, which encompasses the administrative center for the park (the buildings, infrastructure, etc.) - and photos of this area would be eligible. Pictures

@Baylea2003: Both! The former is a priority, as one of our top goals is to have photos for all registered historical sites. However, we also value photos of sites that are already illustrated. If you can show new views of a place, show more details, provide higher-quality photos than what we already have, etc., those are all great ways to contribute. ~Kevin Payravi (talk) 17:16, 4 September 2018 (UTC)

Estimated Amount of Entries

@KrakenSeas: Yes, it's quite the undertaking! Last year we had over 8,000 photos. It's a month-long process that involves multiple rounds of judging, including a pre-jury process sorts through entries to find low-quality images, ineligible entries, etc., which reduces the number by several thousand. Historic Places and Monuments

I just uploaded a group of photos I took this summer in Arizona, New Mexico and Utah. The locations were Meteor Crater, Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park, Canyon de Chelly and Chaco Culture National Historic Park. None of these has IDs for the National Register of Historic places, but all are either National Parks or National Monuments. Do I need an ID for these locations?

Also, one photo failed to upload a thumbnail. Is that a problem? I don't know why it would not upload a thumbnail.

@Sarunfeldt: What great photos - thank you for uploading! Looking through them, Chaco Culture National Historical Park is on the National Register of Historic Places (66000895), so that's good to go for the contest. The rest seem to qualify more as natural protected areas and wouldn't be in the scope of Wiki Loves Monuments, but I'll take a closer look and see what I can find. They'd fit better under our Wiki Loves Earth contest in May, though the US has not participated in Wiki Loves Earth yet - it may or may not happen in 2019. Hi @Clynnwersch: You can view your uploads at Special:ListFiles/Clynnwersch. If you click an image you'll be take to its file page. If you scroll down and see the gray box that says "This image was uploaded as part of Wiki Loves Monuments 2018.", you're good to go! Ideal image size

Hello! The bigger, the better :) As the Wikimedia Commons is a host of educational content, we appreciate the highest resolution of photographs available. For the sake of the contest, we have no minimum resolution, but photos under 3 megapixels will be flagged for manual review at the beginning of our judging process, with only exceptional photos moving on into the later jury rounds (this review is to help us filter out very low resolution photographs from the later rounds). ~Kevin Payravi (talk) 06:07, 21 September 2018 (UTC)

Hi @BBliss95: Thanks for your contributions! They're successfully uploaded - however, I will note that I don't see anything in the image descriptions that explain what historical registries your photographed sites are under, and many of them appear to be natural parks. Wiki Loves Monuments accepts photos of sites registered as a historical or cultural site by some authoritative organization, such as the National Register of Historic Places or your state's historical society. However, even if not eligible for the contest, contributions to the Wikimedia Commons outside of the contest are always appreciated. ~Kevin Payravi (talk) 03:23, 1 October 2018 (UTC)

"Wiki Loves" name

Wikipedia should stop the "Wiki Loves" at the beginning of these otherwise wonderful drives because it clearly violates NPOV. There is a lot of controversy surrounding monuments in various parts of the world. For example, look at the articles: Removal_of_Confederate_monuments_and_memorials, Statue_of_Joseph_Stalin,_Berlin, Statue_of_Peace. These are highly charged issues, and at the very top of the page is a banner blasting the words, "Wiki Loves Monuments"!
