Release rights resetted for every upload

[edit]

Since I can recall and up until not long ago, as long as I didn't close the browser window, the Upload Wizard would remember my release rights choices between every file batch (set the release rights while uploading the first files -> "upload more files" -> the UW would keep as default the choice I made during the first upload, unless I specifically chose to change it). Now it doesn't anymore. Is it just my browser or was this actually changed? Can we change it back? Because that's a bit annoying when you are uploading lots of files in different batches... Hey @Syrio, thanks for noticing. I opened a Phabricator ticket about this problem, will try to let you know as soon as possible. Sannita (WMF) (talk) 10:48, 20 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Great, thanks! -- Syrio posso aiutare? 11:01, 20 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, I am experiencing the same issue - not only release rights, but also both "Where did you find these works" and "Enter the name..." windows are emptied. Since there is more than a month gone after the issue was reported - when can a fix be expected? Like this the upload wizard is unusable for me. Sincerely, Arjoopy (talk) 08:35, 26 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
There are 4 questions that I need to answer every time I use the upload wizard. One of them is the license and there are three valid options for that. But having to click to say that the files are my own work and were not created using AI is a really tedious burden. That might be useful for new users but I urge that this is removed or at not least reset for every upload for established users. Frupa (talk) 17:13, 13 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Syrio @Arjoopy Hello, sorry it took so long for us to fix this problem, but a patch has been merged today about this. Hopefully this means that the problem should now be corrected. Please confirm me it is so, as soon as you can. Cheers, Sannita (WMF) (talk) 10:21, 19 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Sannita: Sorry, I've just tried with several files batches, but I still have the same issue :( -- Syrio posso aiutare? 17:43, 22 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Syrio The fix is not live yet, I was under the wrong impression it was fixed. I'll give you a notice when it's merged. P.S. Please ping @Sannita (WMF), and not my volunteer account, when replying, thanks. Sannita (WMF) (talk) 22:01, 22 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Sannita (WMF): now it works. -- Syrio posso aiutare? 13:54, 29 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Syrio Great, thanks for confirming the patch went live. :) Sannita (WMF) (talk) 17:57, 29 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Potential glitch/bug I am experiencing with the Upload Wizard

[edit]

Hello, I was redirected to post this here: Oftentimes when I upload an image on the Upload Wizard, my arrow keys stop working (I can't move my cursor with them when typing) when writing in the description/title/caption boxes and I can't line break by pressing the "enter" key. It still lets my type when pressing letter keys though and the space bar still works. Not sure if this is a glitch or not. This usually happens when I try to upload a lot of images at once or I have a lot of web tabs open on my browser. I am using a Macbook and Firefox. MaplesyrupSushi (talk) 23:58, 16 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

What operating system/browser do you use? Ruslik (talk) 20:03, 17 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Ruslik0 - I am running macOS Monterey version 12.7.4 on Firefox version 115.12.0esr. MaplesyrupSushi (talk) 22:49, 17 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I cannot upload pic images

[edit]

Adding jpeg files to National Register Of Historic Places page. One cannot upload pic images because the 'updates' move from the attributions about the files to 'publish'. There is no step in the process for comments any longer. Clicking 'publish' produces no result. I've added 2,000 plus images to this page and it would be a loss to end this function, as I have twenty more documentable sites. Jon Roanhaus (talk) 13:45, 27 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Jon Roanhaus: What 'updates'?   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 15:14, 27 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Something changed in the past twenty-four hours. I can re-try the process, but four attempts today produced no successful upload of jpeg pic files. Jon Roanhaus (talk) 15:28, 27 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Jon Roanhaus: Is the "National Register Of Historic Places page" referred to here without a link something on Commons, or on another site? Could you please link? Thanks. - Jmabel ! talk 19:22, 27 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I am trying to upload a jpeg pic image file to a specific NRHP site listing. In this case, it's in Mendocino County, California. Jon Roanhaus (talk) 19:59, 27 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Jon Roanhaus: have you tried uploading on Commons:Upload Wizard and then using the usual syntax to add to the wikitext of the article? That should at least be a workaround. - Jmabel ! talk 23:32, 27 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, Joe. Still in the hunt. 1300 sites documented in 28 states. Hope all is well with you. Jon Roanhaus (talk) 00:10, 28 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Though the message below suggests it might not be... - Jmabel ! talk 23:35, 27 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I also have a problem, don't sure if it the same: when I try to upload pictures through this link on the 4st step (description) I see only the interface, so cannot categorize or rename files. Анастасия Львоваru/en 20:31, 27 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It seems, something is wrong with campaign uploads. The described problem occurs when a user has the ACDC gadget turned off. The 4th step of the upload wizard isn't rendered properly. One can see "jQuery.Deferred exception: dataTypesMap[propertyTypes[propertyId]] is undefined" message in the JS console of the browser.
This problem appears not for all the upload campaigns. Jon Roanhaus reported it about "wlm-us" campaign. Lvova reported it about "wlm-ru" campaign.
I cannot reproduce it with "wle-ru" campaign — it looks that this campaign is not affected, or the problem was fixed there.
As a workaround, I may suggest that affected users enable the ACDC gadget.
Has anyone already reported the issue on Phabricator? Olksolo (talk) 21:25, 28 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This is the page on the National Register Of Historic Places that has a problem. The tab is entitled 'describe' but the user is unable to do so and the submit 'button' is not working.
https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:UploadWizard&campaign=wlm-us&id=79000499&descriptionlang=en&description=%5B%5B%3Aen%3AManchester+Schoolhouse%7CManchester+Schoolhouse%5D%5D&lat=38.966944&lon=-123.686111 Jon Roanhaus (talk) 22:08, 28 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Correction to my information shown above. The 'button' in the 'describe' tab is actually called 'Publish'. Submit is incorrect. Jon Roanhaus (talk) 22:17, 28 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
We have (partially) solved the problems for wlm-ru with this edit. The rest is on our side. Ymblanter (talk) 10:43, 29 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Issues when file name is too long

[edit]

I ran into a couple of issues related to file name I tried to use was too long.

First, it looks like there is some discrepancy in how file name length is calculated on the "Describe" page (where it is provided by the user) and when the file is published (by clicking "Publish" on the above page). I may be wrong, but apparently the first check considers only the file name itself, while the other one considers filename plus extension. Then, the file name length test may pass on the "Describe" page, but then may fail at publishing stage.

Second, when the error happens at publishing stage, there seems to be no way to go back and fix the file name. I'm pretty sure going back was somehow possible in the past, but today I've run into this issue, and I can't find any way to do it: "Back" button in my browser is inactive, and there is no "Back" action in Upload Wizard interface as well (there is only "Retry failed uploads", which will always fail). So, I have to restart the upload process, loosing all image descriptions and other data I've filled on the "Describe" page. If it matters, I'm running Waterfox G6.0.17 on macOS Sonoma 14.5 (all software is up to date, as of today).

DmitTrix (talk) 19:01, 15 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@DmitTrix: Thank you for your report. I've opened a Phabricator ticket, and I should have put you in CC to it. I hope I can give you more data soon, I'll try to push it at the next engineer meeting. Sannita (WMF) (talk) 11:39, 17 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

EXIF date not added

[edit]

While uploading this photo, the date was missing and had to be entered manually. I have never had to do that before. UW has always scrapped the date from the EXIF but not this time. Why is UW getting worse, not better? Bidgee (talk) 04:45, 18 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Bidgee: Thank you for your report. I have opened a Phabricator ticket about it and I should have made you a subscriber to it. Being a bug, this should be triaged soon, so I hope to let you know as soon as possible about its resolution. --Sannita (WMF) (talk) 10:19, 18 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hint to existing file and filename

[edit]

In the former version of the upload wizard was a hint shown with a link to the existing file if I made a new upload with the same filename. Now I get only the hint. I have to open a new tab of the browser and look for the file by hand. That is slowing down the upload process in these cases. GeorgDerReisende (talk) 14:42, 20 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Link would indeed be very valuable. Special:Upload does this, and I have it happen there about once a week. - Jmabel ! talk 15:53, 20 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Error message at last step without indication where

[edit]

I just uploaded over 20 images, writing all the entries per hand. At the end before publishing I got an error message, but without any indication where. An emotional rollercoaster took place before I found two images with identical names. Do I recall wrong, that errors were once marked in red? It is really hard to find an error in a list that is several monitor heights long. MenkinAlRire (talk) 22:00, 5 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
