Hi! I'm sorry for responding in English, but it doesn't look like anyone who speaks Portuguese is going to answer. You might have more luck at Commons:Esplanada. I have asked the folks there to help out here, but it seems they're too busy fighting amongst themselves. :( Unfortunately, the Google translation of your question doesn't make any sense, so I have no idea what it is you're asking. Maps of WWII

How can I contact the people who drew the maps of WWII? Thank you 2601:647:4001:B500:C62C:3FF:FE25:A96F 21:29, 1 August 2015 (UTC)

Which maps? There are several thousand files in Category:Maps of World War II and its subcategories. If the map was created by a Wikimedia user, there should be a link to their talk page from the file description. At the very least, there should be a link to the talk page of the uploader (who may or may not be the author). LX (talk, contribs) 10:57, 6 August 2015 (UTC)

Maps by Jean Baptiste-Louis Franqueline 1688

Two maps by Franqueline are dated 1688 showing (A) four of the Great Lakes on one map and (B) eastern North America on the other.

The subject of interest is Lake Superior and the country west of it, as far west as the cartouche.

The resolution of details on the web copies is rough and I cannot read the names of all the lakes. On map (B) there is a large lake with a circular name around it and a name inside it that may be Lac de Buade.

If it is Lac de Buade it would be reasonable to presume that Franqueline used that name to honor the Governor of New France at the time; Louis de Buade de Frontenac.

1) Please confirm the name of this lake is Lac La Buade

2) What is the provenance on this map in respect to the date 1688?

Uploading Album Artwork/ "Cornerstone_smalltown_boy.jpg"

Hi, I've recently uploaded the File "Cornerstone_smalltown_boy.jpg", but simply forgot to send the permission, so the artwork has been deleted now. Ok, big deal, I've sent the permission meanwhile, but it seems like, I can't upload the pic again ("This pic has been recently removed"). My idea was, to upload the pic and tag it with a "Pending permission" tag, which is of course not possible now... what should I do npw? I need the artwork on the Wikipedia-site... — Preceding unsigned comment added by Morrissey1976 (talk • contribs) 21:12, 5 August 2015‎ (UTC)

You should not attempt to recreate files that have previously been deleted yourself. If the permission is sufficient, the file will be restored. Quoting from Commons:OTRS:

Each ticket will be reviewed by a volunteer. If there is sufficient evidence of a valid permission, the volunteer will mark the file(s) concerned as reviewed. The volunteer will also act to restore any files which may have been deleted before the permission could be verified

How to correctly upload a Public Domain image produced by a U.S. local government.

In 1991 the City of San Diego produced a rendering of a bi-national airport along the U.S.-Mexico border called TwinPorts, the picture is available online on http://tijuanacrossborderterminal.weebly.com/uploads/4/9/1/5/49152021/5277350_orig.jpg I was directly involved in the U.S.-Mexico negotiations and was given a copy of the rendering to show officials in Mexico City and would like to add it to a Wikipedia article. I was told that in the U.S. images created by local and state governments are public domain. What do I select on the upload Wizard to cover such images?Rnieders (talk) 03:47, 6 August 2015 (UTC)

Generally, only works produced by the federal government are in the public domain, but the situation in California is special. It sounds like {{PD-CAGov}} would apply to this. LX (talk, contribs) 10:31, 6 August 2015 (UTC)

Took the foto myself

Hello, I'm writing an article about a notable person on wikipedia. I 'ld like to add a pictures of him but there was no one on wikimedia commons. I've took a foto of him myself. If I'm right, I just have to upload the foto on wikimedia commons and then use it in my article.. Is there any problems with copyrights ? If I upload this foto, anybody will be able to use it, how can I be sure it's not gonna be used in a wrong way (sorry for bad english :) ) Kushi-tolom (talk) 21:02, 7 August 2015 (UTC) thank you ! I've read wikimedia commons : photographs of identifiable person, but I just wanted to be sure that it'll be ok to use it in my article after uploading it here

Hello Kushi-tolom, you have read com:Photographs of identifiable people, where is the problem? Maybe you should read it again. You can upload the photo. Maybe you talk with the person on the photo: ' It´s ok, if I upload the photo to the media memory by wikipedia (comms.wikimedia.org)? Then I can add it to your Wikipedia Article'. If the photo was taken at a non-public place you need a permission. Regards --Jean11 (talk) 11:32, 11 August 2015 (UTC)

Should I write .JPG or .jpg?

When I upload pictures with .jpg at the end, should I write jpg with all caps or letter case? JPG or jpg? Does it matter? Which is preferred? Same question for jpeg and the others. While I'm here, is there any difference between jpg and jpeg? Utopiantos (talk) 16:43, 12 August 2015 (UTC)

Utopiantos, write is with ".jpg" -->"name.jpg". There is not difference between .jpg .jpeg, .jpg is preferred. Regards --Jean11 (talk) 18:55, 12 August 2015 (UTC)
Very well, thank you, Jean11! While I'm at it, colon does not seem to work in Commons. A warning came up: Filename has been changed to "Helsingborg,_fornlämning_183-1.jpg". I wanted a colon after 183, but since I don't want underscores, I have to go back and remove them. Why can't I choose colons? Second, why do I have to press choose the file from my computer again and again? My choice seem to reset every time a warning come up. Nothing else resets though. Utopiantos (talk) 23:32, 12 August 2015 (UTC)
to 1.: see en:Filename#Reserved_characters_and_words, to 2.: I need more information. File:Helsingborg, fornlämning 183-1.jpg is uploaded. I think you are not the author of the drawing, so this is a en:copyright infringement. If you want to get no problems click on the following page, left under Tools on "Nominate for deletion". --Jean11 (talk) 01:23, 13 August 2015 (UTC)
Second, often I get warnings when I try to upload pictures. The reasons can be already existing name, use of colon, missing parameter or other things. Every time, the system takes me back to the upload forum, where the warning is displayed, prompting me to correct it. All the text I wrote is still there. But the picture I wanted to upload is gone, so I have to press choose file, look up the picture from my computer again and then press open. Lastly, I press upload picture, and if all goes well, the picture gets uploaded. Why do I have to bring forth my picture again?
Third, are you saying I can't upload pictures of drawings without permission from the creator? But I can do it with pictures of buildings without permission by the creator. Nevertheless, I will delete it. Thank you again! Utopiantos (talk) 02:15, 13 August 2015 (UTC)
Second: When the upload program recognizes that a claim does not ok is, then it stops and writes it what is not ok. That is normal. You should heed the warnings and act accordingly. I told you already above mentioned reasons, more see the following pages and then trade, thank you: Commons:Licensing, Commons:Project scope, Commons:FAQ
Third:

are you saying I can't upload pictures of drawings without permission from the creator?

Can old pics like this be freely uploaded? How old is not old enough? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Eklingdas (talk • contribs)

Hi,
For images from the USA like this one, everything published before 1923 is OK. For European works, it is more complex: we usually need to know who is the author, or be certain that it was published anonymously. In absence of information, I think it needs to be at least 120 years old. Regards, Yann (talk) 09:56, 14 August 2015 (UTC)

Note, that it is not a final building [2], but the building under construction, and photo is made in 1930[3]. Change to upload form?

I just got made an admin; the user rights were changed in the last ten minutes. I've just noticed a difference at Special:Upload: instead of being required to supply a filename from my hard drive, I'm asked to choose between that and uploading directly from an online source. Did the upload form happen to be changed as well, or is this an additional option for admins? Uploading directly from an online source is something I've never before heard of, here or at en:wp (I've been an admin there since 2007), and it's not mentioned anywhere that I can find (not at COM:ADMIN, for example), but it seems an unlikely coincidence that the change to the form and the change to my rights would happen at the same time. Same here; it's also not allowing me to upload anything. (The only way I can upload anything is to use the wizard, and then once uploaded replace the autogenerated description with the correct tags; the basic upload form seems to have died completely.)iridescent 08:38, 18 August 2015 (UTC)

@Ernest-Mtl: Mmmmh. The 680MB you mention in the deletion request are above the normal Commons:Maximum file size of 100MB. Maybe the "upload new version" function doesn't support chunked uploads? BTW: You've filed a normal deletion request, which may take some time to be processed. To speed things up I'd suggest to use a "speedy" one instead. Just put something like {{Speedydelete |1=Uploader request: Broken upload, please delete for retry since "upload new version" doesn't work. --~~~~}} on the file description page and it should be done within some minutes (maybe hours) instead of days … --El Grafo (talk) 12:03, 21 August 2015 (UTC)

How to upload text file with image

How do I upload text file with image? What file formats can be uploaded. Does the image need to be a separate file or can it be part of a pdf? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Envirodo (talk • contribs) 19:34, 23 August 2015‎ (UTC)

Why do you want to upload text? Normally, you would just write a Wikipedia article in your favourite language. Images should always be uploaded separately, so that they can be used as illustrations for articles. It is technically possible to upload a PDF with text and images, but please ask yourself how it fits within Commons' scope, first. --rimshottalk 21:40, 23 August 2015 (UTC)

You say after selecting a file, some kind of throbber/spinner appears? May you upload a screenshot? Are only image files, SVGs or also audio files affected (maybe something is wrong with the client side thumbnailing code)?
Okay, I see the thumbnailing code appears to be broken. Are you unable to submit the form at Special:Upload? I guess you still can despite there are some spinners for the thumbnail and for the file name. -- Rillke(q?) 09:01, 21 August 2015 (UTC)
Yes, this spinner appears when I try at Special:Upload; it spins forever and nothing happens. No, I cannot upload a screenshot from that, it will be the same with every other .jpg or .svg file when the system tries to produce a thumb. I did not try to upload an audio file, may be that will work because of no thumbnail. Ich bin immer noch vollkommen ratlos. sarang사랑 11:06, 21 August 2015 (UTC)
Did you even a dsl speed test, perhaps your upload stream is below. --Jean11 (talk) 13:09, 21 August 2015 (UTC)
Yes, it is as before when upload was possible: about 1 MB for up (and ~10 MB for down); slow but quite enough, and the files are rather small.
I cannot get up a SVG file of only 180 bytes. sarang사랑 16:42, 21 August 2015 (UTC)
Yes, you can, sorry just kidding. I think there have more users that problem, look it one over. Perhaps a good time to take a break, vacation. LiebeGrüße :) --Jean11 (talk) 23:54, 21 August 2015 (UTC)
It is now about two weeks that my upload does not work. AFAIK this problem has not been reported by anybody else? Is it kind of personal problem, may be because of some odd settings?
I checked today UploadWizard, and with it I can upload a new file - but not a new version of an existing file. sarang사랑 15:18, 25 August 2015 (UTC)
Hi sarang, you are not alone, I too am having the same problem that you describe when trying to upload an image file using the "old upload form". Where a thumbnail image use to load in the preview frame, all I get is a "spinning wheel". Others have noted the same problem, see above under "Picture miniature". I found that a small file ‎(694 × 479 pixels) could be uploaded by ignoring the spinning wheel, but a larger file (3264 x 2448 pixels) would crash. I finally gave up, hoping the problem would resolve, but as of Aug. 25, it has not. I have not tried the UploadWizard. Woodlot (talk) 21:18, 25 August 2015 (UTC)
Did you try the "chunked upload" tool? You may need to enable it in your preferences. That's what I use for every file bigger than a few MB. Regards, Yann (talk) 21:33, 25 August 2015 (UTC)
Thank you Woodlot, your mentioning the contrib #Picture miniature helped me. I never got the idea to just ignore the spinner (besides: I liked to see in advance what I am uploading, esp. whether SVG will render correctly), but now I can live with that fault. Of course it would be nice if the upload utility works as it has done before mid of August.
Thank you Yann, but my problem does not result from large files, it occurs e.g. with a 23 × 6 px file of 166 bytes. sarang사랑 05:48, 26 August 2015 (UTC)

The first Moon Photograph was made by John William Draper (May 5, 1811 – January 4, 1882) in 1840. The author died more than 100 years ago. This Picture is in the public domain or not? According this site to using this Photo is need the permission of New York University Archives. Can i upload this picture to the Wikimedia commons? Thanks: --Cranach~huwiki (talk) 07:36, 21 August 2015 (UTC)

Yes, this is in the public domain. You can use {{PD-old-100}} for the license. Regards, Yann (talk) 13:38, 28 August 2015 (UTC)

strange fault with svg image preview

I'm trying to upload the UNESCO logos for all available languages in svg but the preview versions on Commons are broken, but viewing the .svg itself looks fine.

Thanks

Mrjohncummings (talk) 09:56, 28 August 2015 (UTC)

"Viewing the SVG itself" means that the file is displayed in a program on your local computer which is completely different from the program which renders SVGs to PNGs on Commons... AnonMoos (talk) 02:04, 29 August 2015 (UTC)

План Развития Страны

Hello! The User Motopark deleted the photo on the page ru:План Развития Страны, but this photo is free (Creative Commons Attribution/Share-Alike (CC BY-SA 3.0) and it is situated here http://inna.com.ua/ru/press/fotobank/632/ — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rheinol (talk • contribs) 13:27, 28 August 2015‎ (UTC)

File:План Развития Старны (ru).jpg was not deleted by Motopark but by Yann. (Motopark only marked the file for deletion. Only administrators can delete files, and Motopark is not an administrator.) The appropriate venue for appealing deletions is Commons:Undeletion requests. LX (talk, contribs) 17:37, 28 August 2015 (UTC)
OK, restored and created a proper DR instead. There was no source. @Rheinol: Please add a proper source to your uploads. Thanks, Yann (talk) 17:46, 28 August 2015 (UTC)

Need Help with Descriptive of my Uploaded File

Hello, I followed the Tutorial to Upload a File - but neglected to give the file a proper Descriptive Name as is preferred. I wish to use this file to add to a Wiki Article - but do not know how to change the file name (or remove the uploaded file and re-load/re-add it, so I can use it.) I would appreciate any help you can provide on this.

The file is here: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:IMG_0626-adj.jpg#.7B.7Bint:filedesc.7D.7D

Currently, it is named as: IMG 0626-adj.jpg I wish to re-upload it with the new File Name of: Musician Tom Sharpe in Maumee OH— Preceding unsigned comment added by Lisa Brickler (talk • contribs) 14:51 and 14:54, 28 August 2015 (UTC)

@Lisa Brickler: Hello. I just renamed it to "File:Musician Tom Sharpe in Maumee OH.jpg". Please read Commons:File renaming when you wish some renamings next time. Regards, KurodaSho (talk) 15:02, 28 August 2015 (UTC)

The Logo previously uploaded to the wikipedia was deleted. Someone please help getting the logo on http://www.aamaadmiparty.org/ seen on wikipedia. Bolterc (talk) 11:14, 27 August 2015 (UTC)

Hi, There is no evidence that this logo is free, so a permission is needed. Please see COM:OTRS for the procedure. Regards, Yann (talk) 13:35, 28 August 2015 (UTC)
Thanks for the reply. Please check and do the needful if the logo can be reinstated considering fair use of logos. Bolterc (talk) 12:47, 30 August 2015 (UTC)
Hi, Fair logo logos have to be uploaded on Wikipedia, not Commons. See en:Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline. Regards, Yann (talk) 14:36, 30 August 2015 (UTC)

Gebroken plaatje in Voorvertoning (Dutch question)

--Denkhenk (talk) 10:23, 30 August 2015 (UTC)

Jagtig -- that's a template which exists on en.wikipedia (en:Template:Non-free_use_rationale_biog), but which doesn't exist here on Commons, for the reasons outlined by LX... AnonMoos (talk) 21:01, 31 August 2015 (UTC)

My team of colleagues and I are trying to add a photo to one of our top executives' pages on Wikipedia. The photo is taken by our corporate communications team (I am a member of this team but I didn't actually press the shutter button). Who owns the copyright of this photo, and do I have permission to use this photo? -- 21:26, 31 August 2015 Cglove806

Normally the photographer owns the copyright, unless there is some kind of "work-for-hire" arrangement, or the photographer chooses to release rights... AnonMoos (talk) 23:33, 31 August 2015 (UTC)

Why wasn't a thumbnail created

I successfully downloaded the picture, but the thumbnail wasn't created. What am I doing wrong? -- 22:46, 31 August 2015 User:Tgutie1

Did you upload or download. Your question is a little confusing the way it's currently phrased... AnonMoos (talk) 23:33, 31 August 2015 (UTC)
