Category talk:European Parliament plenary session July 2014
No need for "on [day]" categories here (especially when they're named in French). Hereby suggesting moving all files to the parent category. FDMS 4 03:50, 20 October 2014 (UTC)
- Oppose (then Keep): Which category should be the "parent category" where files would be moved? If we move to just "European Parliament, Strasbourg", we should add a lot of other categories in separate files, and that's not very convenient for the categorizing. For "CfD 2014-10", "2014 in Strasbourg" "July 2014 in France" and "2014-07-01" it's more convenient to keep this category. If needed we can rename the category to have it in English, but French is allowed, especially for this kind of categories localized in one specific place in France (even if we are in some European place). For me, having a category with date is related to an event, then there is no problem to keep it. Jeriby (talk) 08:15, 20 October 2014 (UTC)
- French is allowed: Only when there is no English name, see COM:CAT. If there was a special event on that date, the category should be renamed to something like [event] at the European Parliament Strasbourg. FDMS 4 20:30, 20 October 2014 (UTC)
- Delete, this is just a very silly idea. The same members of the European parliament could also meet in Bruxelles (admittedly not on the same day.) –Be..anyone (talk) 06:30, 24 October 2014 (UTC)
- Is that less silly to add "CfD 2014-10", "2014 in Strasbourg" "July 2014 in France" and "2014-07-01", then 4 categories (!) on each picture? Moreover the result would be that theses pictures would be diluted (and a bit lost) in categories that could have a big amount of files from a large geographic area (especially 2014-07-01 where it can be from over the world)? I doubt... Jeriby (talk) 08:19, 24 October 2014 (UTC)
- Try something else, how about [[Category:Parlement européen 2014]]? If that turns out to be too broad split it by month or similar, starting with daily categories for something that doesn't happen daily is just odd, or maybe it's only me. –Be..anyone (talk) 19:51, 24 October 2014 (UTC)
- It would probably make sense to categorise by term … but then, images would still have to be put in date categories "manually". Anyway, in English, the institution is called European Parliament … FDMS 4 20:12, 24 October 2014 (UTC)
- Yeah, one of their names, and a rule here to simplify i18n and searches. –Be..anyone (talk) 21:37, 24 October 2014 (UTC)
- Comment There are other similar categories, indicating that there are days corresponding to some event in the European Parliament (see Category:Events_in_European_Parliament,_Strasbourg). We could rename it "1st of July 2014 in European Parliament, Strasbourg" or "2014-07-01 in European Parliament, Strasbourg". --Ruthven (msg) 07:09, 27 May 2018 (UTC)
- What's the significance of this day in European Parliament? Was it the inaugural session of the year? If it's just one ordinary sitting and nothing special happened, delete this category for sure and move contents up to cat:European Parliament in 2014 or ..in July 2014.--Roy17 (talk) 20:52, 10 June 2019 (UTC)
@FDMS4, Jeriby, Be..anyone, Ruthven, and Roy17: For the sake of some movement after 6 years, I propose a move to Category:European Parliament, Strasbourg on 2014-07-01 which matches both Category:France photographs taken on 2014-07-01 and most of the subcategories of Category:Events in European Parliament, Strasbourg. It also conforms with Commons:Language policy. If there is need for further discussion about the category's existance, a new discussion can be started. Any opposed? - Themightyquill (talk) 12:57, 14 December 2020 (UTC)
- @Themightyquill: The category is redundant with Category:Fotoprojekt EP 2014. They should be merged in the latter (maintaining all the parent categories). I reckon that even a category redirect is pointless i nthe case of this one. --Ruthven (msg) 10:32, 15 December 2020 (UTC)
- Keep but delete subcategory. It looks like every photograph is redundantly in the photoproject subcategory. In theory then, they should be moved to the subcategory leaving six images in the main category. The fotoproject is not really the event that occurred. The other meetings at en:Category:Events in European Parliament, Strasbourg are listed by month and year so perhaps Category:European Parliament meeting July 2014? -- Ricky81682 (talk) 07:46, 5 April 2021 (UTC)
- Keep but delete subcategory Rename the category European Parliament plenary session July 2014 to match others in parent cat: events in European Parliament, Strasbourg. Delete cat: Fotoprojekt EP 2014.—2601:5CB:C080:1640:1876:FA6D:5A14:F4C8 06:13, 2 May 2021 (UTC)
- I agree with Ricky81682: maintaining the day doesn't make a lot of sense after all. --Ruthven (msg) 10:24, 2 May 2021 (UTC)
- Also agreed on Category:European Parliament plenary session July 2014 for now to match others in Category:Events in European Parliament, Strasbourg. In general, I would prefer the date format yyyy-mm-dd as it is more broadly used on Commons, but we should make it consistent with its category first. We can discuss a broader change to the whole parent category in the future as warranted. Josh (talk) 20:57, 26 June 2021 (UTC)
- @Themightyquill: Any issue with moving forward with this as proposed so we can close this one? Josh (talk) 20:57, 26 June 2021 (UTC)
