English: This category is exclusively for Large Public Domain digital images organized by state (Or territories) of the United States that are sourced or derivative of section or quadrant maps published in the public domain by the United States Geological Survey.
  • For example maps labeled "USGS 15 Minute Series" and "TUVWXYZ Quadrant", or other such standard series.
  • Cut maps, derived of these or independently produced should be in the states parent category for Topographic maps, such as for example: Category:Topographic maps of Pennsylvania or Guam.

  • Subcategories and maps in this schema should conform where possible in their naming to include the state name, an identifiable region of state* and the USGS MRC series code identification numbering over a one degree by one degree section, which should be specified. (e.g. 40075, defines an 8x8 grid of 7.5 minute sections coded a1-g8)
    •  * Preferentially 'region of state' should include a old style USGS quadrant naming identifier, which in the given example east to west would be Lehighton, Nesquehoning and Hazelton Quadrants. These are typically organized and indexed on a 3x3 grid by the USGS.
    • Naming in this manner will tie the old USGS schema to the new MRC coded indexing, making searching by names far more powerful.
  • Ideally derivative Map titles will also comply with a similar naming schema; See the contents
of Northeastern Pennsylvania Topomaps, USGS MRC40075-series of (corners:N40xW75 to N41xW76) for some examples of how that might be organized.
  • The MRC schema is an identification number, followed by an eight (rows, letters) by eight (cols, numbers) matrix coded A1 ... G8 (Organized: Lower East corner to Upper West corner).
