FaceMePLS images

Hello Zhuyifei1999

Are you still available?

Currently Category:Flickr images needing human review contains 8111 entries. But 5162 of them are also in Category:Photographs by FaceMePLS. These are files from this flickr account that changed licenses. They were uploaded by 1VeertjeBot, including an archived link where the original license can be checked.

See for instance File:'Herfst Clingendael' (300801199).jpg or File:'Bloemenauto' Lange Voorhout Den Haag (7378789886).jpg.

These could be reviewed manually, but I think we should instead get FlickreviewR_2 able to review these files through their archived versions.

I have moved them to Category:Flickr images by FaceMePLS needing human review so they are at least not flooding the main category. Platonides (talk) 18:16, 12 August 2022 (UTC)

Sorry, I thought that for cropped images it's enough to link to the original file uploaded to Commons. I added the link to the image on flickr.com now as well. I hope, it's okay now. Best wishes Henni147 (talk) 13:58, 9 November 2022 (UTC)

Backlog

Since some days the bot FlickreviewR 2 seems not able to get to photos with names that start with “I” or any other letter later in the alphabet – because the bot always starts at the beginning of the alphabet and there are too many photos, it never reaches the “I” and later letters. If this state of affairs continues, some photos will never be reviewed. Would it be possible to make the bot process more photos per day? Or is there another solution? Best, --Aristeas (talk) 06:42, 14 November 2022 (UTC)

Right now, all the 5,330 unreviewed files in the queue start with the letter H and beyond. I uploaded a file starting with F a moment ago, it was reviewed almost instantly. There must be an obstacle somewhere, so that only the files starting with numbers or with the letters A to G are reviewed. --Edelseider (talk) 13:24, 14 November 2022 (UTC)
Currently, the first unreviewed image in the alphabet is File:Hyosung RT 125.jpg, which has been awaiting review since November 8, so it's getting through almost all the "H" names. Adeletron 3030 (talk) 14:01, 14 November 2022 (UTC)
@Adeletron 3030: Do you mean that files with names like "Hamburg.jpg" or "Heseltine.jpeg" are getting through? --Edelseider (talk) 14:35, 14 November 2022 (UTC)
@Edelseider It looks that way. File:Hungary Air Cargo, HA-LHU, Airbus A330-243F.jpg and File:Hartebeest, Masai Mara, Kenya (52496669257).jpg have been reviewed, for example. Adeletron 3030 (talk) 15:31, 14 November 2022 (UTC)
Thank you for that information. The problem is still not solved, though, and the backlog keeps growing. Could someone please repair the bot? --Edelseider (talk) 06:32, 15 November 2022 (UTC)
Thank you, Edelseider and Adeletron 3030, for your investiation. Well, the problem is probably, who should repair the bot. Zhuyifei1999 who used to operate the bot has retired (see notice on the user page), so it seems that, as very often with such tools, there is no official maintainer … That’s really terrible, so many useful tools erode and finally disappear because we have not enough maintainers!
And the documentation is poor, too. For example, where is the source code? I would expect to find a link immediately on the information page about the bot, but I can’t even find that …
@Bryan: you used to operate the original FlickreviewR bot. Any chance you could have a look at FlickreviewR 2 and this issue? That would be great! (But it seems that Bryan has more or less retired, too. That’s a pity!)
Has anybody any idea who knows enough about programming the Python interface of Wikimedia etc. to take a look at this issue? --Aristeas (talk) 14:17, 15 November 2022 (UTC)
@Aristeas: We seem to be on the right track now, see Commons:Administrators' noticeboard#FlickreviewR 2 does only review files with names starting with 0 to 9 and A to H. --Edelseider (talk) 14:24, 15 November 2022 (UTC)
@Edelseider: Wow, thank you very much! Hope it helps … --Aristeas (talk) 14:24, 15 November 2022 (UTC)
Seems the bot works normally again – hurray! --Aristeas (talk) 14:27, 15 November 2022 (UTC)
lol now the bot is running amok again. XD
so, File:Hyosung RT 125.jpg https://www.flickr.com/photos/mountainash/14120604155/ causes problems. best solution is if someone can dig into the codes and debug. otherwise we just need someone to manually bypass such things every time it occurs. RZuo (talk) 14:33, 15 November 2022 (UTC)

I tagged them with Flickrreview, but I don't think I've ever had an issue with State Department photos. It looks like the Upload Wizard didn't add a license or the review template? Adeletron 3030 (talk) 16:12, 7 December 2022 (UTC)
looks like State Department photos cannot be processed. now stuck at File:Secretary Blinken and Secretary Austin Co-Host the 2022 Australia-U.S. Ministerial Consultations (52546616237).jpg. RZuo (talk) 16:23, 7 December 2022 (UTC)

probably two things are broken:
 1. compare these two uploads: dec 6 dec 7. supposedly they are the same situation? but dec 7 one's licence was left as "undefined" by uploadwizard.
 2. the photos themselves couldnt be processed by the bot, whether they're state department photos or the dec 7 one. i copied the exact same licence part from dec 6 one to dec 7 one: special:diff/713180536. bot is unresponsive.
RZuo (talk) 16:38, 7 December 2022 (UTC)
my hypothesis is something is changed on flickr, causing uploadwizard to fail to identify the licence (us govt works/no known restrictions, something that's not CC), and the bot to also fail to understand the licence. RZuo (talk) 16:41, 7 December 2022 (UTC)
@RZuo: It should instead shuffle a file off to Category:Flickr images needing human review‎ or Category:Flickr videos needing human review‎ and go on to the next.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 17:17, 7 December 2022 (UTC)
i'm not the code maintainer. i cant see the source codes either.
i have a simple idea to bypass this problem though. instead of strictly following alphabetical order, the bot could randomise the starting point (a random string of 3 chars should be quite good) every 15 minutes. suppose it's stuck at File:A Red Ribbon..., 15 minutes later the starting point is randomised to be "bc9", then it would start reviewing stuff behind this until it finishes the cat or runs into another obstacle. RZuo (talk) 17:27, 7 December 2022 (UTC)

Randomise starting position of review

i imagine, one way to avoid building up a large backlog when the bot is stuck at a particular file, is to randomise "from which string" the bot starts reviewing. this doesnt solve the problem of those unreviewable files, but should minimise disruption and long queue.--RZuo (talk) 17:31, 7 December 2022 (UTC)

@RZuo: It could also log the filenames it is having problems with and why when shuffling off as per my message of 17:17 above, or back off those files exponentially.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 20:36, 7 December 2022 (UTC)

Image was labeled uncompatible with wikimedia commons

Hi there. The upload of the publicly free usable Flickr image (https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Beobachtung_der_direkten_Auswirkungen_einer_chemischen_Reaktion.jpg#metadata) was marked and critizised by FlickreviewR 2. I downloaded this image from flickr and on flickr there was the note that it was licenced under "Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 2.0 Generic (CC BY-NC-SA 2.0)". On the original website of the licences it was mentioned that there would be a new version of this licence available but that the old licence would not bee changed automatically for this photo. So I checked out what would be the new licence and it was "Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0)". I would love to use the pic to make wikipedia more attractive! Do You think there is a possibility to do so by the circumstances mentioned above? Thanks for Your attention and sorry for the bother. Best wishes. Category:Flickr images needing human review

sorry for writing on your page first. i might write this again on vp later.

i found that the bot might sometimes have hiccups and return size not found, e.g. File:12.17 總統接見「美國退伍軍團協會總會長賴斯塔德訪團」 (46350888361).jpg File:Rome 2015 95 2 (20570268974).jpg. i think it'll be a good idea to run the bot thru Category:Flickr images needing human review (for everything, or better only for files that were created with the tags "flickr" or "flickr2commons [1.0]") once a month. or another bot can reinsert Flickrreview to such files. this can minimise congestion in the human queue. RZuo (talk) 01:23, 17 January 2023 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) @RZuo: The bot has already been through those files.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 01:02, 18 January 2023 (UTC)

2 bot edits seem wrong

Your bot's two recent edits on File:Vermont-public-radio-vermont-pbs-logo.webp seem wrong to me. Besides placing the same category twice on this image, I would think TOO-US is perfectly acceptable in lieu of a license. - Jmabel ! talk Jmabel ! talk 19:18, 12 February 2023 (UTC)

that's not a licence template. Textlogo is. RZuo (talk) 19:59, 12 February 2023 (UTC)

Any recent changes to YiFeiBot?

Hope you don't mind the questions, but did you recently make a change to YiFeiBot? I noticed that thousands more files have been added to Category talk:Media missing infobox template and that bot seems to be responsible. Until the last few days the file count has been fairly stable, but recently it's increased by thousands of files. This isn't a complaint, all the new files seem to have been categorised correctly, but they also don't appear to be new files so I'm confused as why they're only being tagged now. Where are they coming from? Had the bot been paused or busy with another task until recently? Scyrme (talk) 20:25, 14 February 2023 (UTC)

The script responsible for this broke since October 2021, due to a combination of Python 3 upgrade, Pywikibot upgrade, and database schema change. I fixed it along with a few other tasks. --Zhuyifei1999 (talk) 06:18, 15 February 2023 (UTC)
Good to know. Thanks for the info! Scyrme (talk) 16:10, 15 February 2023 (UTC)

FlickreviewR 2 has apparently broken down.

Hi Zhuyifei1999, FlickreviewR 2 (talk · contribs) isn't reviewing anything at the moment, it seems to have broken down. Could you look into it? Thank you very much, Edelseider (talk) 08:41, 22 February 2023 (UTC)

In fact, it has slowed down bizarrely. It does review some files from time to time, but the queue is growing longer and longer. --Edelseider (talk) 11:22, 22 February 2023 (UTC)
@Edelseider it's getting stuck like last time User_talk:Zhuyifei1999/Archive_58#Backlog, remember? RZuo (talk) 11:36, 22 February 2023 (UTC)
@RZuo: for exactly the same reason again? I can't believe it. --Edelseider (talk) 11:37, 22 February 2023 (UTC)
i think the problem last time was patched, but this time it got stuck with File:FNK 2848 (52599945887).jpg probably for something else.
@Multichill, Stang, Steinsplitter, and WhitePhosphorus: can you please consider User_talk:Zhuyifei1999/Archive_58#Randomise_starting_position_of_review or other methods of circumventing the "bot gets stuck" problem? RZuo (talk) 11:44, 22 February 2023 (UTC)
it's pretty weird that it could pass File:FNK 2831 (52600441711).jpg but not File:FNK 2848 (52599945887).jpg: same flickr account, same camera, same licence, uploaded on commons 1 minute apart. RZuo (talk) 11:51, 22 February 2023 (UTC)

Could you please explain the 6 month delay for Flickr review from upload.

@Zhuyifei1999

This file and 6 others were uploaded in April 2022. This file was "reviewed" in October 2022. These flickr photos were not found due to this delay and were added to a Flickr photo not found category.

Is this flickr review delay issue resolved?

Position of category added by YiFeiBot

Hi. I've been working on emptying Category:Pages using Information template with parsing errors. One problem I'm regularly encountering is that I can't easily undo edits due to the category being added to the top of the file. Would it be possible to add it to the bottom instead, where categories are usually found? Thanks :) Cryptic-waveform (talk) 21:15, 23 March 2023 (UTC)

@Cryptic-waveform: It's added to the bottom to mitigate the case where the addition of category in wikitext has no effect. For example, a page like whose contents is
<!--
appending to the page results in
<!--

remain in the HTML comment and has no effect. This is especially bad because in the case of Category:Pages using Information template with parsing errors, where the bot sees {{informaton in pages added to the category, so the page most likely has some sort of brokenness, and it was decided to just use prepending to simplify the logic rather than attempting an append then changing to prepend if it has no effect.
By the way, you said you can't easily undo. I see you have undone them via HotCat in edits like Special:Diff/743064967. Is some other tool you were using unable to remove the category when they are at the top? In that case I guess it's a tooling issue and it's probably easier to fix that instead? --Zhuyifei1999 (talk) 15:42, 26 March 2023 (UTC)
Also thanks for fixing the pages --Zhuyifei1999 (talk) 15:43, 26 March 2023 (UTC)
Hi. Thanks for looking into this. The issue I have is not with Hotcat, it's trying to undo edits that happened before the bot adds the Category:Pages using Information template with parsing errors. Oftentimes the parsing errors are due to just one last bad edit which could easily just be undone. Cryptic-waveform (talk) 12:16, 27 March 2023 (UTC)
Looking at this again, I'm actually not even sure that the position of the category is what prevents undoing bad edits. When trying to undo this diff, I see "The edit can be undone. Please check the comparison below to verify that this is what you want to do, and then publish the changes below to finish undoing the edit." The position of the category should not have any effect here. So there is probably nothing to fix or change here. Cryptic-waveform (talk) 14:40, 27 March 2023 (UTC)

Streamlined way to re-run FlickrreviewR for multiple files?

I noticed that Category:Flickr public domain images needing human review has 80,000+ images and only growing. But for many (though not all), it's simply a matter of changing to an appropriate license and re-running the reviewer bot. Is there a way to make Flickrreview re-run without manually replacing the template for each image? Thanks! Adeletron 3030 (talk) 19:39, 31 October 2023 (UTC)

@Adeletron 3030 can you plz give an example file of what you mean by "changing to an appropriate license"? RZuo (talk) 11:03, 7 November 2023 (UTC)

Patches waiting for a push

HI, There are at least 2 issues about Video2Commons with patches which are waiting for submitting: [1] and [2]. Could you help please? Thanks, Yann (talk) 12:04, 9 December 2023 (UTC)

Add recognition of PDMark-owner to FlickrreviewR

Hello, I found that pictures from flickr with this tag are still unable to be automatically reviewed (e.g. File:-i---i- (51870809980).jpg). Could you please add support for this tag, which will greatly reduce the amount of manual review work. Thank you. 0x0a (talk) 08:20, 26 December 2023 (UTC)

@0x0a: Hi,
IIRC, there is a reason for that. We accept PDMark-owner only if the picture is from the author, and the bot can't check that itself. Cc-zero is a better license. Yann (talk) 10:24, 26 December 2023 (UTC)
@Yann To my confusion, the bot can recognize the PD-author-FlickrPDM tag. Should I manually switch to that tag when I confirm that the flickr user is the author? e.g. File:-i---i- (51736890069).jpg. 0x0a (talk) 12:06, 26 December 2023 (UTC)

Bot is not operational (February 16th, 2024)

Hello, the bot seems to be stuck and is not reviewing files. Special:Contributions/FlickreviewR_2 shows last review was "09:09, February 14, 2024" for File:Semana da Música Dois dias depois de ontem 20.11 (2) (52514143306).jpg

Please check, thank you! // sikander { talk } 🦖 15:45, 16 February 2024 (UTC)

@Zhuyifei1999, This bot is still "stopped" (for over 2 days). Please, see: [3]. Thanks @Sikander, --Ooligan (talk) 23:38, 16 February 2024 (UTC)
@Ooligan: Cleared the pending files in Category:22ª Semana da Música (Votuporanga) in case the bot had gotten stuck after processing File:Semana da Música Dois dias depois de ontem 20.11 (2) (52514143306).jpg but unfortuantely doesn't seem to have made a difference. // sikander { talk } 🦖 23:43, 16 February 2024 (UTC)
@Sikander, Thank you for removing a potential bot obstacle. I just checked the bot and it is still not processing yet, but I appreciate that you tried to get it moving again. --Ooligan (talk) 00:25, 17 February 2024 (UTC)
+1. There are 10,000+ Flickr files waiting for review. Please fix it ASAP. --A1Cafel (talk) 05:30, 18 February 2024 (UTC)

Follow-up: bot was rebooted by a developer, thank you Stemoc, and it is operational again as of February 18, 2024. Cheers. // sikander { talk } 🦖 15:46, 19 February 2024 (UTC)
