First steps tutorial

Our first steps tour and our frequently asked questions will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy (Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content).

You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold when contributing and assume good faith when interacting with others. This is a wiki.

Getting help

More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at the copyright village pump.

Goodies, tips, and tricks
  • Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your graphic abilities.
  • You can find the files you have uploaded in your Uploads.
  • Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~.
  • To link to an image page without embedding the image, type: [[:File:Foo.jpg]], which produces: File:Foo.jpg.
  • You may enable gadgets (custom features) for your account.
  • There are several tools to upload files.
  • Have you edited Wikipedia before? This guide might be useful.
Made a mistake?
  • Do you want to have a file renamed or moved? Use the move link and wait for an authorized user to rename it.
  • Do you want to have your recently uploaded picture removed? Tag it as {{speedy|reason here}}. For more information read the deletion guidelines.

Greetings[edit]

When you add newer or better photos to the collection, you do not have to nominate for deletion the images you feel have been "replaced." The collection is interested in open permission images; we keep many which are not perfect due to their historical or educational focus. I have restored one of the images you nominated for deletion, I would request you read both COM:L and COM:SCOPE before making more nominations. Thank you. I nominated this image for deletion not because I uploaded a better quality picture as you stated - I nominated another picture for the given reason which was absolutely unusable, blurred and horrible, and that was deleted, I think duly - but because I saw no historical and educational purpose for it. I realize that the uploader resented the deletion so let it remain so. Also I wasn't aware that we have a separate category for votive candle racks (because that image was NOT in that category at the time) which fits this image well. On the other hand when you are lecturing another user you can at least get your charges right. Zello (talk) 21:50, 18 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
No lecturing here, merely suggesting that you read the points about COM:L and COM:SCOPE. I have no "charges", merely providing information to an en:wiki user who may not be familiar with aspects of Commons practices. I may not be familiar with every aspects of Commons practices (although I have made contributions here for the past six years) but I still don't get your point. Was I wrong nominating for deletion an absolutely bad, unusable image after realizing that we have a lot of beautiful photos about the same topic? I don't think so. It was deleted and nobody was upset about it. Was I wrong nominating for another picture that I deemed out of scope? One administrator agreed with my evaluation, you and the uploader disagreed, and the debate was settled. (And in between the image was put in a more suitable category.) This is exactly the purpose why we have a nomination process. Speaking in acronyms I practiced COM:Redundant and COM:EDUSE. I have made a dozen nominations in the past which were uncontroversial and supported by the community, and I don't think that every nomination should be necessarily successful. Ördög-árok romjai[edit]

Szia, megnéztem a helyszínrajzot. Az ezen szereplő romok szerintem mind a mai villamosvonaltól északra vannak. Az én fotóim mind attól délre készültek. Az Attila út és A Krisztina körút között - - Globetrotter19 (talk) 10:36, 3 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Bocs. Már harmadszor olvasom a szöveget https://muemlekem.hu/muemlek/show/67-n és habár azelején azt írja Római őrtorony maradványa, I. Valentinianus idejéből. utána azt, hogy Krisztina krt. és az Attila út közötti parkos részen, az r.k. templomtól D-re, téglány alakú, feltehetőleg 15. sz.-i épület (Garády szerinti I. sz. épület) maradványa. Elég zavaros. De ha biztos vagy benne akkor add meg az új neveket és én is átnevezhetem fájlokat. Ami File:Remains of bridgehead of the Ördögárok-stream. Memorial stone (S). - Budapest District I.JPG illeti, azt szerintem nem kell átnevezni. A műemlékem leírása teljesen zavaros mert rengeteg emléket zsúfoltak bele, amiknek a többsége ma már nincs is meg, pl. a római őrtorony nyomtalanul eltűnt. Az I. számú épület - amit te fotóztál - és a támfal van meg föld fölött (amit most én), illetve még egy kis faldarab, aminek pár napja már rendbe tettem a leírását. Igazából én minden olyan fájlnevet megváltoztatnék, amiben benne van a bridgehead az egyértelműség kedvéért, azokat, amin a rom van, egyszerűen elnevezném Tabán medieval ruin 01, 02 stb-nek, amin meg az emlékkő, azt elnevezném Ördögárok memorial stone 01, 02-nek. A leírásokat én Garády alapján rendbe teszem majd, most már pár nap kínlódás után értem hogy viszonyul egymáshoz a mai állapot, a régészeti helyszínrajz meg az 1933 előtti Tabán-topográfia.Zello (talk) 11:14, 3 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Attila út (Budapest)[edit]

Szia, a javaslatodat szeretném kérni közterület átnevezésekkel kapcsolatban. Mi lenne a megfelelő név a Category:Attila Street 93, Budapest (Agricultural Library)‎ helyett lehetne Category:Attila út 93, Budapest (Agricultural Library)‎ vagy inkább a második név is legyen magyarul. Pl itt is Category:Attila Street 27, Budapest (Auguszt Yard)‎ az lehet Category:Attila út 27, Budapest (Auguszt Udvar)‎ ?

Másik kérdés mi legyen pl Category:Hunyadi János Way csak mert van pl. 11. ker. Hunyadi János út. lehetne Category:Hunyadi János út (Budapest 1) esetleg Category:Hunyadi János út (Budapest 01) vagy Category:Hunyadi János út (Budapest I.) vagy Category:Hunyadi János út (Budavár) utóbbi kevéssé használt kerületnév, de azért... Szia, az Auguszt-udvarnál egyértelműen a magyar forma legyen, a könyvtárnál sztem mindkettő elfogadható, az ilyen intézményneveket szokták tükörfordítani. A közterületeknél sztem tök jó, hogy egyre inkább a magyart használjuk, ott Attila út és Hunyadi János út legyen, viszont a házszámot az angolok előre teszik, ezért sztem 93 Attila út a jobb forma. A kerületekről fogalmam sincs, hogy melyik számozás legyen, egységesen kéne vmelyiket használni, de semmiképp se a Budavárat (ott zavaró h a városrésznevek és a kerületnevek keverednek, a Hunyadi János út pl. konkrétan nincs is a Várban). Szia. Kösz az ötleteket! A Budavárat az I. kerület név helyett gondoltam ugyan ritkábban használják mint a Várkerület-et, de az meg túl általános. Esetleg lehetne akkor pl. Category:Hunyadi János út (Víziváros)? Persze Víziváros van máshol is. Ha Category:Attila út 27, Budapest (Auguszt-udvar)‎-t választjuk akkor talán a Category:Attila út 93, Budapest (Magyar Mezőgazdasági Könyvtár és Dokiumentációs Központ) jobban passzolna? Vagy lehet, hogy még jobb lenne,-az egységesség miatt,-ha csak simán utcanév + házszám pl. Category:Attila út, 27 (Budapest)? - - Globetrotter19 (talk) 21:19, 7 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Sztem érdemes zárójelben odaírni, ha az épületnek van bevett neve a házszámon kívül, erőltetetten nem használnám, csak ha tényleg gyakran előfordul vagy intézmény van benne. Az Auguszt-udvarnál és a könyvtárnál indokolt odaírni. Zello (talk) 22:18, 7 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Válaszoltam a törlési javaslatnál, csak annyit tennék hozzá hogy direkt elzarándokoltam a polgárdi temetőbe h legyen egy szabad felhasználású, freedom of panorama alá tartozó fényképünk Sümeghről, ami semmilyen más módon nem állítható elő, és ki tudja, hogy egyáltalán meddig lesz még rajta a síron a fénykép. Ha sikerül a fotót töröltetni - amire szerintem nincs alap -, akkor ez a kép valószínűleg végleg elvész, és Sümeghről soha nem lesz semmilyen fotó. Nem értem, ez mire jó, miért érdemes addig csavarni a jogi okoskodást, amíg egy hasznos és pótolhatatlan fotó törölhető, sőt gyakorlatilag végleg eltüntethető. Segítségkérés átnevezés ügyben[edit]

Szia. Segítség kérnék. Közterületeket neveznék át. Egy Wiralee nevű administrator a vitalapomon (Commons:Naming categories) nem akarja elfogadni, hogy magyar nevek használatáról döntöttünk [1] Szerinte használjuk a google fordítót! Stb.
