File:Lava from erupting volcano in Iceland reaches houses in Grindavik.webm has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

this file was just (7 months ago) kept in a regular deletion request, see Commons:Deletion requests/File:Europa Park Stadion logo.jpg. If anybody disagrees with that outcome, there should be a new deletion request, but the file should not be speedied. Regards --Rosenzweig τ 23:08, 20 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Remove old version of file (copyright)

Hi Yann,

This file File:1945-05-28 Baseball's Miracle Man, Pete Gray.ogv is not the original version from the newsreel, but was uploaded in a truncated version with new audio from a 1990s documentary. I stripped the copyrighted audio. Can you please delete the old version?

Dear Admin Yann F,

I notice that this user uploaded several images before and after this image in December 2022 with a Google Pixel camera. But this image has metadata which says it belongs to the Louvre and was not taken with a Google camera. do you know if this image was derived from this 2012 source which makes it a copy vio or if it is own work? I am uncertain. Best Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 12:03, 22 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, right, so Commons:Deletion requests/File:Stèle de Minnakht - Musée du Louvre Antiquités Egyptiennes C 55 ; N 209.jpg. Yann (talk) 13:46, 22 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Leoboudv, Yann . It's my own photo. This was a wrong manipulation with another image to correct the perspective. Due to the resolution, this cannot be an image derived from the official site image. A new file with good metadata has been uploaded. Protection request

Hello.

Can you protect File:Brown rat distribution.png and keep it as it was originally uploaded, so that only administrators can upload and edit it? A user puts the unsubstantiated arguement that the entire Canadian province of Alberta, has no brown rats whatsoever and puts the arbitrary provincial boundaries as the distribution for the common brown rat, considering how baseless it seems that they stop at the provincial borders. The province has a presence of brown rats which are detected, which does not mean that it is totally devoid of brown rats.

Really deleted files

Hello Yann. Regarding a file I wrote up to be undeleted, I got in response: "no file there left to undelete, just file description pages (in those early days, the files actually _were_ deleted)" When was this technical thing changed, do you know when it was made on Wikimedia so that files weren't fully deleted, if you get me? Grey ghost (talk) 19:00, 2 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Grey ghost: What's the file name? Yann (talk) 19:07, 2 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
File:Derain CharingCrossBridge.png deleted in May 2006, so the technical thing was changed between then and now, that's what I gather. Grey ghost (talk) 19:23, 2 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Grey ghost: That's probably a bug. But we also have File:Charing Cross Bridge by Andre Derain (52259664204).jpg, which will be in the public domain next year. See Category:Undelete in 2025 and Category:André Derain. I will fill up a bug report nevertheless: phab:T356535. Yann (talk) 19:33, 2 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Not a bug. Before June 2006 or so, deleted files were not kept on the server for later undeletion, that was new in MediaWiki 1.7. See my user talk page. Regards --Rosenzweig τ 21:26, 2 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Protection request

Hello.

Can you temporarily protect File:Dubbing films in Europe.png with its original coloring, so that only administrators can upload and edit it?

The attempted new coloring in File:Dubbing films in Europe.png, does not correspond to the original colors with their legends given in 19 languages and corresponding color bars in the text, and in the 29 Wikipedia articles which use them, including the legends with the various translations and the color bars of this file.

No explanations have been given what the additional colors are supposed to represent, and cruciallly, no legends with the new color bars have been added either. The change clashes with the legends and color bars of this file and in the Wikipedia articles which use them. It just messes things up, when no legends are added or changed, including the translations, when the colors are changed, and no sources are added.

Commons Volunteers of India

Hello, hope you're doing well. I'm curious if there's a forum where contributors to Wikimedia Commons in India can gather to discuss topics. While I've attended several meetups and workshops organized by CIS-A2K, they tend to focus more on Wikipedia or Wikisource-related matters. --iMahesh (talk) 10:54, 8 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

balise {{PD-retouched-user}}

Bonjour Yann,

Redirect

Hi, Yann - I think this redirect should be deleted. Redirecting a non-existent file named Castner Glacier.jpg to Gulkana Glacier.jpg makes no sense at first glance. The image I uploaded and incorrectly named Castner is now correctly named Gulkana. I have gone through and corrected/updated all incidents where it was used which only amounted to 2 or 3 times. I'm thinking that redirect was probably auto-added when the File was moved to the correct name. Also, having Castner redirect to Gulkana creates issues for others wanting to upload an image simply named File:Castner Glacier.jpg. Atsme Talk 📧 12:41, 15 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of videos by Disney Channel Israel

Hey, Yann. Disney has notified WMF Legal that the YouTube channel for Disney Channel Israel was engaging in license laundering:

Wikimedia Foundation's legal department contacted Disney's legal team as well and made them aware of the CC licenses that were present in their videos in Disney Channel Israel. They answered to our email confirming that the channel's content referred to is not offered under a Creative Commons license. In this sense, we just wanted to reaffirm the position that the CC-license attribution on their part is likely not intentional and cannot be interpreted as a free choice to license the videos.

Due to this, I have nominated the three videos from Disney Channel Israel which you uploaded for speedy deletion (File:הבית של רייבן -חופשה באירופה - Raven's Home.webm, File:הסודות של סאלפר ספרינגס - תחרות כשרונות - Secrets of Sulphur Springs.webm and File:קיקיוואקה- המחנה החדש - קן לציפור - Bunk'd- Learning the Ropes.webm) and have also added Disney Channel Israel to a list of questionable YouTube sources.

Please let me know if you have any questions. JohnCWiesenthal (talk) 15:37, 20 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

File:Evolution of Hindu-Arabic numerals.jpg

Hi Yann,

I have been trying to add further context to File:Evolution of Hindu-Arabic numerals.jpg, since when I previously added a credit there I didn't know the proximate source of the scan. It's apparently a (1984) book chapter by Frank Swetz from a book by Campbell and Higgins. (Swetz modified Karl Menninger's original diagram by adding the "Shang numerals" box at the top). For no apparent reason, user:M.Bitton doesn't want this source to be linked, and keeps edit warring at the image description page. Do you mind adding the link(s)? Thanks! jacobolus (t · wp · wt) 16:44, 23 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, I mentioned the reason: "it was edited by an admin" (after you messed with it). In any case, now that you brought it here, the admin will decide what to do and in the meantime, I will create a derivative that will be based on all the cited sources. Can I upload a logo from Canva that I have created under the {{self|cc-by-sa-4.0}} license that will not be deleted? Dhampius (talk) 19:04, 25 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Dhampius: Hi,
I suppose you are talking about File:ЕХФЛ.png? Why did you make for? Do you work for this organization? Yann (talk) 19:10, 25 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, thank you for answering. I work for the organization. We used Canva, but maybe we have chosen the wrong public license. Please, could restore the images and tell me which public license is the most suitable. We do not want to own the logo or to keep it private any public license will be ok? Dhampius (talk) 19:22, 25 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Dhampius: Well, then a formal written permission from the organization is needed. Please see COM:VRT for the procedure. Thanks, Yann (talk) 19:24, 25 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I am a volunteer and this is a non-profit organization. Can`t we just restore the image and change it with a suitable license?
If that is not possible, may I create an image with just text, if this can be approved, which license should I use so it does not get deleted?
Thanks in advance for the time and attention. Dhampius (talk) 19:28, 25 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I undeleted the file, and created a regular DR instead. Yann (talk) 19:35, 25 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you! I saw that my other picture is also deleted ЕлеазарХараш2023.jpg, could you please also restore it so I can set it with a free license?
Currently the license for ЕХФЛ.png is "{self|cc-zero}", should I keep it like this or set it to: "{cc-zero}" or "{cc-by-sa-4.0}" , I want to set it to the most free license possible. Dhampius (talk) 20:01, 25 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The issue is not the license, but who is the copyright holder, and is the file in scope?
And the issue is the same for your other files. You can request undeletion on COM:UDR, but I doubt they will be undeleted. Yann (talk) 21:59, 25 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Louzbek5097 (talk) 15:09, 26 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Please don't block me

I am sincerely sorry if any of my edits seemed to you like vandalism. But the truth is, yesterday I was extremely stressed and I don't want that happening to me today. Blocking me will only worsen my current situation, and now I am scared to make another edit after that warning. I hope that warning is temporary because if it stays on my record, I might have to quit Wikimedia Commons, forever... TheKumquatGuy2662 (talk) 15:48, 26 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Blocking is preventative, it is not punitive. COM:BP Honestly, if you get so stressed from discussing things in a forum, you should know when to walk away from the computer and take a walk outside or something. As long as you avoid behavior like trying to blank out a discussion when things are not going your way, you should be fine. Abzeronow (talk) 17:55, 26 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Does that mean the block warning is temporary or do I have to worry about it for the rest of my life? TheKumquatGuy2662 (talk) 18:25, 26 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@TheKumquatGuy2662: If you behave properly, you edit will be understood as one-time mistake, and will be forgotten. Yann (talk) 18:42, 26 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

your opinion please...

User:隐世高人 has a pattern that I thought was disruptive, and counterpolicy.

There is nothing wrong with concluding an existing category has a less than ideal name, and deciding to do somthing about it. But 隐世高人 does the wrong thing, actually, two wrong things.

Best practice is to either (1), apply a {{Move}} template to the category, and explain why one thinks it should be renamed; or (2) initiate a rename discussion at CfD, with an explanation as to why the category should be renamed.

If the best practices are followed, and the new name is endorsed, (1) a robot does the dirty work of moving all the elements, and a (2) {{Category redirect}} is left, so the renaming does not leave a bunch of 404s.

What 隐世高人 does is (1) create their preferred category name, without getting any input from anyone else; (2) use cat-a-lot, one element at a time, to remove the old existing category, and add their new category; then finally (3) apply a {{Speedy}} deletion tag to the old category, on the grounds that it is empty. Yeah, it is empty because they just finished manually emptying it.

One reason this is a highly disruptive practice is that we have no way of knowing how many third parties had bookmarked the external URL of the old category. All those bookmarks break when the old category is deleted.

The other reason this is potentially disruptive is that, in my experience, the individuals who ignore the best practice for renaming categories are prone to pick bad names, inferior to the existing names.

You recently speedy deleted several of the categories 隐世高人 first emptied, out of process, and then requested speedy deletion, because they were empty.

I raised this at Commons:Administrators' noticeboard, a couple of weeks ago, after 隐世高人 employed this tactic to Category:Coast Guard of Yemen. I am going to ping @User:Jeff G. and @User:Andy Dingley, who I think agreed with me there.

Do you concur with us, that 隐世高人 has been engaged in a disruptive activity? If you agree what do you think should be done about cleaning up after their disruption? If you think their activity is okay, could you explain why?

Here is an example:

  1. 隐世高人 moved Category:HTMS Phutthaloetla Naphalai (FFG 462) to Category:HTMS Phutthaloetla Naphalai (FF 462) ==
  2. removed Category:HTMS Phutthaloetla Naphalai (FFG 462) from File:Phutta Loetla Naphalai.jpg and added Category:HTMS Phutthaloetla Naphalai (FF 462)
  3. removed Category:HTMS Phutthaloetla Naphalai (FFG 462) from File:Aerial_port_side_view_of_the_Royal_Thai_Navy_(RTN)_His_Majestys_Thai_Ship_(HTMS)_PHUTTHALOETLA_NAPHALAI_(462)_underway_in_the_Gulf_of_Thailand_during_Cooperation_Afloat_Readiness_an_-_DPLA_-_52e4be6d61da902bf6ad99c860c41779.jpeg and added Category:HTMS Phutthaloetla Naphalai (FF 462)
  4. Added a {{Speedy}} to Category:HTMS Phutthaloetla Naphalai (FFG 462) because it was empty
  5. You deleted Category:HTMS Phutthaloetla Naphalai (FFG 462) because it was empty, even though we have no way of knowing how many third parties had bookmarked it.

Cheers! Geo Swan (talk) 21:27, 26 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Geo Swan: I know what's the proper name for this category, but if the name is controversial, a discussion should be started before renaming. Yann (talk) 21:32, 26 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Other instances include:
  1. Category:HTMS_Phutthayotfa_Chulalok_(FFG_461)
  2. Category:Makut Rajakumarn (FF 433) (ship, 1971)
  3. Category:HTMS Taksin (FFG 422)
  4. Category:HTMS Naresuan (FFG 421)
  5. Category:HTMS Rattanakosin (FS 441)
  6. Category:HTMS Matchanu (ship, 1936)
  7. Category:Coast Guard Ships of Yemen
Cheers! Geo Swan (talk) 21:48, 26 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Geo Swan: I undeleted the categories, and reverted to the redirects. These are useful anyway. Now a discussion should be started about the definitive names these should have. Yann (talk) 22:15, 26 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Halfgroats of England

Dear Yann, a few weeks ago you have quick-deleted Category:Halfgroats of England. Not knowing the reasons, may I nonetheless ask you to undelete it, as I intend to use precisely this name in a way consistent with:

Category:Halfcrown with subcategories e.g.:
Category:Halfcrowns of England
Category:Halfcrowns of Great Britain
Category:Shilling with subcategories e.g.:
Category:Shillings of England‎
Category:Shillings of Great Britain‎

and similar examples. Such naming in turn enables different-grouped categories such as:

Category:Coins of England by name
Category:Coins of Great Britain by name

etc. (work still in progress). Thanks for your consideration, --HReuter (talk) HReuter (talk) 23:31, 28 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

About You Tube video screenshot

Is Youtube video screenshots allowed in Commons? When I can use {{Youtube}} tag as licence? Tanvir 360 (talk) 09:27, 1 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

(talk page stalker) YouTube allows users to mark their videos with a Creative Commons CC BY license. If any of the videos has marked such license or any other license accepted to Wikimedia Commons, then, one can reuse it here, giving proper attribution to the original creator. But please be cautious of some videos which use pictures or videos of other people (without permission), and still giving such licenses in their description box. Hello @Yann I would like, if it possible to get them, more information about the reasons why this photo is going to be deleated. If it is a source problem (it seems that the site which hosted the photo deleted it from its page since my import) I have since changed it, to another site where you can find the photo on the web. But I have doubt it is the reason Thanks in advance Penastal (talk) 13:27, 3 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Penastal: This is most probably in the public domain in Russia, however its copyright status in USA is unclear. It would be in the public domain in USA if it was published within 30 days from the publication in Russia, but that's difficult to prove either way. Yann (talk) 13:30, 3 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Dispute

I'm aware that the dispute between myself and Andy Dingley at the "User problems" page has now become unproductive distracting from the intended topic of discussion.

I'm not sure what you think of the edit that (to my mind) started the problem. The wording of the section title- which was added at the same time he replied to myself- is obviously sarcastic in its suggestion that it

"Support topic ban from uploading any further 'creepy' images 'of people' to Commons, unless they also include an out-of-focus blob of a vehicle, to be defined individually per upload by a multi-thread discussion per [every single image that Bull-Doser uploads]".

This isn't what I was proposing and- even allowing for the fact there was some misunderstanding- the sarcasm makes clear that it wasn't (and couldn't be) a good faith attempt at representing my position or anyone else's.

Is this acceptable? As I mentioned as the discussion, this looked to me very much like a case of Commons:POINT, and the fact it was taken seriously by some and confused with my own opinion made it worse.

I would appreciate your feedback as an admin- thank you.

Usage de la boîte de résumé

Bonjour,

@Cody escouade delta: Bonjour,
Yann (talk) 13:15, 5 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, first option must be Instagram to find copyright of these kind of uploader. because they change name of file you can not find it on google image. it is easiest way to track through Instagram page. 99 percent of these file uploads from Instagram pages illegally. just copy paste name of file name in google gave you person Instagram page you can easily find the original image.

for example these user. all uploads are from Instagram page i find two of them in seconds

File:Hogwarts Legacy – Official 4K Reveal Trailer.webm has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Nosferattus (talk) 19:36, 6 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

It does not, to my knowledge, depict an identifiable copyrighted character from MLP:FIM. You can’t copyright an art style. This was a highly improper speedy deletion and should be undone and, if you are still not convinced, be sent to standard deletion so other users can weigh in. Subject: Reconsideration of Image Deletions Related to Cheryl Miller Dear Yann, I hope this message finds you well. I'm reaching out in my capacity as a representative of Cheryl Miller's estate, concerned with the recent deletion of images from her Wikipedia page. These actions have prompted me to seek a constructive dialogue to ensure that the legacy of Cheryl Miller is accurately and respectfully represented on Wikipedia. Cheryl Miller's contributions to the entertainment industry were significant, and the images in question were selected to highlight her pioneering role, especially in advocating for women's rights within the industry. The estate holds the negatives and copyrights for these images, providing us the legal right to use and distribute them. These rights were a result of forward-thinking contracts with major studios, underscoring her unique position in controlling her image. Our aim is not to infringe upon Wikipedia's policies but to enrich Cheryl Miller's page with historically significant images that are within our legal right to share. We believe that the use of these images falls under fair use, given their historical importance and the educational context of Wikipedia. We are committed to adhering to Wikipedia's guidelines and are willing to provide further documentation or clarification needed to verify our rights over these images. Our goal is to collaborate with the Wikipedia community to find a solution that honors Cheryl Miller's legacy while respecting the platform's standards. I understand the importance of maintaining Wikipedia's integrity and assure you that our intentions are in alignment with this objective. We seek your guidance on how to proceed in a manner that is mutually agreeable and compliant with Wikipedia's policies. Thank you for considering this appeal. We are open to suggestions and hope to engage in a positive discussion that leads to a resolution beneficial to all parties involved. File:Tegan Nox in March 2020.jpg

Hi,

You deleted file:Tegan Nox in March 2020.jpg here on Commons. The same file en:File:TeganNox2020Cropped.png is on the English Wikipedia, and I am looking at whether it should be deleted. Can you know the exact reason for deletion? See also my notes at en:File talk:TeganNox2020Cropped.png. Thanks, -- Whpq (talk) 13:53, 8 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, this is a copyvio. I tagged it there. Yann (talk) 14:02, 8 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I am trying to understand why it is a copyvio. As per my notes on the file talk page, the initial source currently does not show a CC license, but the archive does show a CC license, and CC licenses are not revocable. -- Whpq (talk) 14:13, 8 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I didn't see that. But since the video was removed on YT, I wonder if the license was valid. I undeleted it and created a regular DR instead. Yann (talk) 14:30, 8 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
For me, the issue would be if the performance itself is copyrighted by WWE. -- Whpq (talk) 14:35, 8 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think a performance can be under a copyright (at least certainly not one like this). Copyright starts when something is recorded or fixed in a tangible medium. But the quality is poor, so I wonder if the YT user recorded it live, or copied it from somewhere else. Yann (talk) 14:41, 8 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I was thinking that professional wrestling is a scripted performance, but it really is only loosely scripted so you are right it isn't an issue. -- Whpq (talk) 15:19, 8 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Cas d'école sur photo de collection Studio Harcourt d'avant 1991

Commons:Deletion_requests/File:BrigitteAuber-1954-Harcourt.png

Bonjour cher Yann,

Yann (talk) 17:26, 8 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Protection request

Hello Yann,

Can you temporarily protect File:Dubbing films in Europe.png?

I noted in the Dubbing article in English Wikipedia, which uses this file, that it was reverted and clashed with the color bars and legends in that article, as well as in the file itself.

In the reverted edition, there are more colorings and they are totally ambiguous, as no legends and sources are given, as to what they are supposed to represent; and this has totally messed up with the original uploaded version with its color bars and legends given in 19 languages of this file, as well as in the numerous Wikipedia articles which use this file with its corresponding color bars and legends.

File:Col Arif Mehmood Shaheed.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Deletion of files of my authorship

Hello. You deleted some files I uploaded from commons. While I didn’t actually give a license for files downloaded from the Internet, I don’t understand deleting my own works. Greetings, Maks8697 (talk) 14:51, 17 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Do you have an opinion on how much due diligence we need to have to prove a negative? It is impossible to prove a negative, we only have due diligence. RAN (talk) 00:25, 22 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Richard Arthur Norton (1958- ): Hi,
I am usually more open to assume public domain for old pictures, but a UK 1940 picture is probably still under a copyright in USA, unless it is a work by the UK government. These don't really look like official pictures (may be File:Grandpa laszkiewicz as Flight lieutenant.jpg, but some more evidence would be useful). Pictures of Poland from that time are in the public domain, but why pictures taken in UK would be first published in Poland? Yann (talk) 10:24, 22 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Teatro opera Piacentini

Hi, thanks for the undeletion, unfortunately I've noticed that the image had already been re-uploaded on commons with a different name (File:Castro Pretorio - teatro dell'Opera di Roma (Costanzi) facciata piacentini 1010030.JPG), so I think that we can delete it again or transform into a redirect, I'm really sorry for the inconvenience... @Воскресенский Петр, Dmitry Borko, and Lvova: I can't find any free license on https://memohrc.org/ or https://memorialcenter.org/. There is a ticket number, but no license. Relevant discussion: [3]. Yann (talk) 07:18, 25 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. Thanks for letting me know about the pictures deleted from the Wiki.

I have put them like that since technically I don't know EXACTLY which copyright protections apply to those pictures. Normally those pictures are available to the public (so they should fall under Fair Use), without any specification about repercussions in regards to their use in other places. Since they have been featured in the press and even in an Alstom press release on LinkedIn, they should be under some sort of Creative Commons license since these articles are available freely (so no paywalls), but then again nothing is clear.

Sorry for the inconvenience. Punmeister1337 (talk) 20:46, 26 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Punmeister1337: Hi,
It is very simple. Do not upload images copied from the Internet, unless you get a formal written permission for a free license. Fair use is not accepted on Commons. Please read COM:L. Yann (talk) 23:29, 26 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Delete

Why did you delete File:75 Years of Friendship through Cricket Event.png? It was a logo for an event and i had uploaded under proper licensing information Pharaoh496 (talk) 08:01, 23 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Pharaoh496: This file was copied from the Internet without a permission. You need the copyright holder's permission before uploading it here. Please COM:L. Yann (talk) 10:31, 23 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
What?
Coming to that later, i find that many of my media is removed, and I am being warned for copyright. I took the pics, and I cant find similar images on the internet even now, of those particular instances. Why are they being deleted then? Pharaoh496 (talk) 11:15, 23 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Pharaoh496: If you took these pictures, you must answer some questions. Where are internships allowed to attend the Prime Minister's meetings? We expect that you upload the original images with EXIF data. Thanks, Yann (talk) 11:20, 23 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
What makes you think I can reveal any of that? And I am still learning to operate wikimedia, so I can try and fix something but dont remove media already in place in two dozen pages Pharaoh496 (talk) 11:27, 23 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Pharaoh496: Well, the files will be deleted unless you prove that you are the author. You can also do that via COM:VRT, but some proof will be asked anyway, and it takes usually much longer. Yann (talk) 11:48, 23 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
And how do I? Take the images and look for them on internet (except the logo). This was the only site I uploaded Pharaoh496 (talk) 14:33, 23 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Yann With much respect to you, Id appreciate a response. You have flagged many of my uploads for deletion and I am unaware what to even do. Pharaoh496 (talk) 12:10, 27 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Pharaoh496: I told you what to do. You repeatedly uploaded copyright violations from the Internet, so your claim that these images were taken by you is not credible. And you didn't answer my question above. You must prove that you have the right to license these images under a free license. Please see COM:VRT for the procedure. LachinCorridor_Exodus.jpg - deletion reason

Hello, I noticed that you deleted File:LachinCorridor_Exodus.jpg per COM:SPEEDY. Unless I missed it, I don't see a specific reason cited, and I wasn't able to determine which criteria listed on the COM:SPEEDY page would have been violated by this image. Would you mind letting me know please what the issue with the file was? Thank you.

Re:Warning

Hello, I am a CU on it.wiki. I asked for speedy deletion because all of those (useless) pictures have been uploaded by a sockpuppet of a well known cross-wiki spammer and LTA. Who was also globally locked for that. He is trying to promoting himself as photographer and musician ans he's spamming everywhere his bio and, on Commons, his images. Do you think this is not a valid reason for speedy deletion, at the point to warn me? Regards. Superspritz (talk) 10:14, 31 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Superspritz: OK, but then please provide a more detailed rationale. In such a case, a regular DR with all uploads by this user may be better, so that we have the context. Thanks, Yann (talk) 10:18, 31 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Please help

You have been really helpful in the past. Please see that this Commons file is all OK:

https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:HEADLINE_-_%22LEEDS_LADY_DROWNED_OFF_FILEY_BRIGG_-_Photographing_the_Breakers%22_(Yorkshire_post_April_18,_1900).jpg

The heading should have a capital on the word "Post".

I did another earlier page using the same image but it has a black line underneath - you can remove that page entirely and just use the one above I am discussing with you (if you can find the other one please delete it!)

Thanks Srbernadette (talk) 07:09, 2 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Srbernadette: Hi,
I think it is OK that way. Do we need these external links in the description? These are usually not accepted. I changed the license. Yann (talk) 09:00, 2 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your efforts and time - could you please (on the above page) change the title name so that the word "post" has a capital "P". Thanks.

Please look at this file too https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Filey_Brigg_Drowning_May_1900.jpg

- you can discard it if you think it is no good - This page is wrong because it has a black line at the bottom of it. Also, this page is wrong because the heading says "May" instead of "April".

Thanks again, Srbernadette (talk) 10:42, 2 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Ouch

A block on TC was a little harsh IMO for what could quite honestly been a simple mistake. I think AGF and a conversation would be more appropriate before bringing out the restraints. If it was urgent and imperative, something like 2h would have allowed a moment of intervention and a conversation. As admins, we also need to look at this from the perspective of the user.  — billinghurst sDrewth 21:35, 2 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, OK. I unblocked TC immediately. Yann (talk) 09:00, 3 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

More deletions

@Yann Hi! Thanks for deleting the pictures I had marked for deletion under copyright violations. I apologise for uploading those pictures without verifying the license. That was the first time I was uploading pictures from the Lok Sabha/Rajya Sabha website. There are some more files uploaded by myself and other users from the same site and I have marked them for deletion under the same deletion criteria. I humbly request you to check that at your convenience. Thanks again. Oritsu.me (talk) 04:55, 3 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Oritsu.me: OK fine, but you should say that these are files uploaded by you. Otherwise I have to check each file. Yann (talk) 09:07, 3 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I saw that you closed the DR for File:Tutra Pahari Temple,Goremara.jpg. Did you noticed that the uploader removed the own name as author and hole information template? As the uploader is also blocked this in most cases qualifies for speedy deletion but you closed the DR with the standard text. GPSLeo (talk) 16:34, 3 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for noticing this. I reverted to an earlier version. Yann (talk) 17:32, 3 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

File:Hiroshi NIH.png

Hello Yann.

I wanted to ask you why you deleted File:Hiroshi NIH.png since I own the copyright to this photo because it was taken by my colleague with my own camera. So please let me know if there is a way to show that I own the copyright. KBO36 (talk) 06:24, 4 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I was doing some research and came across a misunderstanding.
Thank you for your cooperation. KBO36 (talk) 07:45, 4 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@KBO36: Hi,
If it was taken by your colleague, then they own the copyright, not you. And it is wrong to say you own it, like you did when you uploaded it. Your colleague needs to send a permission for a free license via COM:VRT. Then why not upload the original image with full EXIF data, instead of a small PNG file, which looks like a screenshot? Yann (talk) 09:32, 4 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Yann, I'm not very familiar with processes on Commons, other than uploading, so seeking your advice or help. I see you had challenged this uploader for copyvio before. How is it petty to ask someone to ask an administrator to not make comments towards me that I find insulting? Your the one always initiating things on your end by making the comments to begin with. I have absolutely nothing to do with you otherwise and I should be able to ask you to stop making them and leave me alone if I have an issue with how your treating me. Adamant1 (talk) 13:18, 10 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Adamant1: You are looking for these comments. If you don't want that your claims are called "nonsense", do not make claims without any valid rationale. It is quite simple, isn't? Yann (talk) 13:20, 10 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm really not. I said in the ANU complaint that I didn't think Tulsi is doing paid editing on here, but that someone doing paid editing probably shouldn't have the VRT permission just to be on the safe side anyway. I don't really see what's "nonsense" about that. Regardless, I'm certainly not looking for those types of comments from you and there's an appropriate way to respond to someone you disagree with. Like how Aafi responded, which I think was perfectly fine. I find dealing with you rather distressing a lot of the time since you blocked me for essentially no reason those two times though and I should be able to make edits having to feel threatened or intimidated while doing it. It's certainly hard to deal with the insults.
Maybe it's a cultural thing, but I really do honestly find the term "nonsense" rather insulting. Again, there's an appropriate way to go about criticizing someone and I don't think calling what they say "nonsense" is a way to do it. Why not at least stop saying it as a good faith measure towards me and sign that your willing to get along if nothing else? Just say why you disagree with what I'm saying and move on. There's no reason to make every minor thing you disagree with or response that personal. To quote Commons:Harassment "It is as unacceptable to harass a user with a history of inept or disruptive behavior as it is to harass any other user."--Adamant1 (talk) 13:35, 10 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Read again what I wrote there. I didn't say anything about your comment on Tulsi. I said that your claim that File:Sunny Leone snapped at Mehboob Studio.jpg is advertising for Bollywood Hungama is nonsense. Well, French translation (absurdité) doesn't seem to have the same definition as English. You also wrote the file should have just been deleted on site as blatant promo. Seriously I don't see how you can say that with a straight face. Yann (talk) 13:49, 10 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough, but still even if you disagree it's advertising that's no reason to call my opinion that it is "nonsense." There are images on here from the same source without the watermarking containing their website URL after all, which also happens to be in the middle of the image BTW. I don't really see how anyone can say with a straight face that a URL to a commercial website in the middle of an image isn't advertising. It's clearly meant to call attention to their website. Regardless, as I said there's a civil way to go about this anyway. Just find a better term. Absurd is kind of getting there. But still, there's no reason you can't just say I'm wrong, point out specifically why, and then move on without the needlessly personal tone to begin with. Like "it's not advertising because of X" and leave it at that. I'd love to know why you think Bollywood Hungama putting an extremely obvious watermark containing their logo and website URL in the middle of an image isn't meant to serve as advertising. --Adamant1 (talk) 14:18, 10 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Bollywood Hungama sells images of Bollywood people: actresses and actors (mostly), directors, etc. The watermark is mainly here to reduce the commercial value of the images when not paying for them, not so much to redirect searches to their website. People who want to buy these images know where to do that. Anyway, the attribution URL is useful to increase their Google ranking, while the watermark is not. Yann (talk) 14:40, 10 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hhhmmm, I guess I wasn't aware that something was only advertising if it improves the companies ranking on Google lol. You got to admit that's not the standard for what makes something promotional on here and that they could direct people to where they buy the images in a less direct way. Like I said, its not like a lot of their other images have the watermark either. --Adamant1 (talk) 14:52, 10 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
