I consider this image *my* work.

The program this has been taken from was just the tool to provide that work, in the same sense as you could e.g. use Adobe Photoshop or Microsoft Visio or whatever to prepare other own works. The focus of the image is the waveform displayed in it, not just the appearance of the GUI of the tool. This tool has a "Make screenshot" menu entry in its "Edit" menu, so this is a strong indication that taking a screenshot is their intented way of the user to get a picture of their current waveform, along with all the other things (markers, signal names, timing scale, measurements) that are needed and useful to take along with the actual waveform itself. User:Dl8dtl

Beside that, screenshots made on the Windows plateform are deleted because they include elements of Windows design,...
This is pointless. I'm a big fan of opensource software, and have been contributing to opensource for more than 15 years now. Why do you believe would an opensource license then to also grant you any further rights in distributing screenshots of it? I've never seen a license that would cover that detail. But if you prefer to be a politician: OK, fine by me. I'm not willing to argue a couple of hours about each of my work (which already took me hours to prepare), so I'm simply not going to contribute to you. Please delete my account. I wish there were a method to authenticate this my wish here (as there is in plain old email).

Algarve[edit]

Please explain why you removed Image:Algarve.gif. It's my map, which I uploaded to be used with a CC license by anyone who needs it. PtCarma 14:13, 24 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

> No, this is not your map. It is made by a telephone company which owns the copyright.

No, I'm sorry, you jumped to conclusions. Viajar * Clix is a joint venture between Clix (an internet provider which belongs to a company, Sonaecom, that also owns a phone provider, Novis) and Semantix (a contents provider of which I'm the owner and manager). All contents is my property.

I'm allowing everybody (online and offline) to use my maps for free. Why not release them at once to the world as CC and put them up where they can be found more easily, i.e., Wikipedia?

This users includes online media like personal or commercial sites, but also local government sites and even hard media, like newspapers, and even prints on the sides of cars and trucks of companies. All I ask is an attibution, which makes everybody happy.

For some of the online uses, have a look at http://www.google.com/search?q=mapa+viajar+clix (you may have to try different language servers to see the whole lot). I regret to say that many people don't follow the attribution rules, but I don't care. Why would I?

Robbert Meeder[edit]

hi Yann,

You recommended for removal a picture of Robbert Meeder. This picture was given to me by Robbert Meeder himself and he said I was free to use if if I mentioned the name of the photographer - which I did. I will contact him again and ask him for the email address of the photographer so he can give me permission himself. Please give me a few days to handle this and don't remove the picture right now.

Radiofan, March 26 2007

Hi Yann,

I contacted the organization Robbert Meeder works for, National Dutch Broadcasting (NOS). They assure me that there is no copyright on the photograph that was made on their request. It can freely be used on the internet:

"Dag Jeanne,

Marianne Klip NOS Communicatie 035 - 677 5745"

translation: Dear Jeanne (Radiofan), It is all right. The photographs Leendert Jansen made for the NOS are free of copyright. This goes for rhe photo he made of Robbert Meeder as well. Yours truly, Marianne Klip.

Now I hope you will lift the removal ban on this photo.

Best wishes, Jeanne March 26, 2007 11.26

Images I've just uploaded[edit]

I've uploaded 3 images (Positive Vibrations cover and 2 versions of the same photo of the singer Misty Woods). I thought I'd marked them up correctly but I'm new to Wikimedia images so I assume I've done it wrong. I'm the designer and copyright owner of the magazine cover, and am uploading the photograph with consent of both the photographer and subject - can you advise how I should correctly tag them so they don't get deleted? (I'm not very keen to put my real name on them as attribution, as I've attracted quite a few stalkers at Wikipedia, but can do if necessary.)

Company's Logo Upload doubts[edit]

I'm trying to upload my company's corporate logo but it was deleted yesterday, I have their authorization to upload it and use it in yhr company's wikipedia page.

I've uploaded today again but two big warning messages were displayed in the image's page. "This page or file may meet the criteria for speedy deletion."

If you could be so kind to help me in this issue. As I said I've the company's permission to upload the logo. I've tried to see how other logos were licensed but their page like http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:SAP_logo.png does not present the license, only the logo template is present. But as far as I've seeing marking the image as a logo has no relation with it's license.

Any help would be most appreciated.

Hi there. You deleted an image uploaded (and draw) by me, but another user User_talk:GeorgHH put the tag, so I'm not sure to who should I present my case. Well, in any case I put the link to his discussion page with my petition. Best Regards (it's the only saudation I know in english) Rafael

Ok, I saw that requirements here in commons are different from those on Portuguese Wikipedia. Derivative Works, I see. But, well, two days still is a very short time do deletion...

Hello Yann, I saw that you proposed the Image:Jacqueline_Poelman.jpg for deletion, because there was no license information filled in on her page. This is to let you know, that I uploaded this image after having received the confirmation from the photographer, that he allowed me to use this photo under Creative Commons license: Attribution - ShareAlike 2.5 (Dutch version). I sent this information to the contact point for Wikipedia in The Netherlands and they gave me permission to upload this photo into Wikimedia Commons (see also the ticket no. mentioned on the page). Now obviously something went wrong during the uploading procedure, because I thought I had done everything in the way it was prescribed. Since then I have been trying in vain to restore the license info on the page, but didn't succeed up to now (it is all completely new to me, you know). Could you advise me how to prevent deletion of this image? Thanks in advance, best regards,--Piet.Wijker 10:53, 7 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. Can I change the licence of a photo released to the Commons from PD-self to cc-by-2.5? I would appreciate the honest answer. --213.199.192.60 00:19, 9 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I want to know a reason why you deleted this image. Thank you.--Morio 02:31, 11 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Current reason: Scott Speed's Toro Rosso V10 on Flickr - Photo Sharing! currently shows a link to incompatible Some rights reserved.
Past reasons: User:Para/Flickr/Licensing differences/Incompatible shows that Image Scott Speed 2006 April cropped.jpg with Flickr id 136574387 had a Commons license of "cc-by-sa-2.0" on 2007-02-07, but an incompatible "Cc-by-nc-2.0" license on Flickr from 2006-10-02 to 2007-02-19. User:FlickreviewR/log#Review log of 22:16, 21 January 2007 (UTC) shows "File:Scott Speed 2006 April cropped.jpg 10:35, 01 May 2007 JPEG_ERROR 2 paulwoolrich 136574387". Similarly, further back in time, User:FlickreviewR/log/archive-12#Review log of 12:43, 5 January 2007 (UTC) shows "File:Scott Speed 2006 April cropped.jpg 12:35, 05 January 2007 JPEG_ERROR 2 paulwoolrich 136574387". Similarly, further back in time, User:FlickreviewR/log/archive-7#Review log of 18:06, 26 December 2006 (UTC) shows "File:Scott Speed 2006 April cropped.jpg 17:54, 26 December 2006 NO_EXIF 2 paulwoolrich 136574387".
"Cc-by-nc-2.0" precludes commercial use, which is incompatible with Commons.   — Jeff G. (talk|contribs) 20:15, 12 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Bonjour,

--Juiced lemon 16:32, 2 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

C'est justement ça que je conteste. Ça me semble totalement injustifié. Yann 10:29, 4 May 2007 (UTC)
--Juiced lemon 19:19, 5 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Call to arms[edit]

Hi Yann. I write to you and all other users listed on the Welcome log helpers list, except for EugeneZelenko this Call to arms. The reason for it is that I have seen very little activity on the project by you. Because of this we have most probably failed to check the contributions of thousands of new users and have not been able to inform them of the practices on Wikimedia Commons in a timely fashion, causing more work for us and the contributor later in the process.

I would like to urge you to make a habit of checking at least 10 or so new user's contributions from the Commons:Welcome log each day you are active here. We welcome about 200 new users with contributions each day and we currently have 19 users on the helpers list. You can find links to some helpful scripts on the welcome log page, that are likely to make your life a lot easier. If there are no users to be checked that have been welcomed today, please attend to a previous log. Thank you for your renewed attention. Cheers! Siebrand 12:21, 25 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Petrusbarbygere 20:59, 26 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Yann,

On 28 March 2007 you placed an {npd} template with this image saying "permission is coming". I have not seen this permission since that day, so could you please tell me what I missed? Or has the template just been removed from the image without any permission being given?

Broken Chair[edit]

Salut Yann.

"Blizzard Entertainment® hereby grants you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable and non- assignable license to use and display, for home, noncommercial and personal use only, one copy of any material and/or software that you may download from this site, including, but not limited to, any files, codes, audio or images incorporated in or generated by the software (collectively the "Downloaded Content") provided, however, that you must include or maintain all copyright and other notices contained or associated with such Downloaded Content. "

Recently I followed a portrait here in Commons. After reading the downloader's comment and checking the log of the image I discovered that the picture was previously deleted twice by Pfctdayelise and you because of lack of source. Now the image has got its source and license and has been kept in Commons since 1st Feb. As it is legal now, could you or Pfctdayelise please restore the full history of the image so that the whole process can be followed by anyone? If you have any comments please leave them here because my IP address is dynamic. Thanks -89.168.29.153 00:22, 12 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading Image:Alain fournier.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page. If the content is a derivative of a copyrighted work, you need to supply the names and a licence of the original authors as well.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multilicense GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find all your uploads using the Gallery tool. Thank you. Photos from Palais Matignon site[edit]

Dear Yann

I would like to tranfer photos from official page of French Governement like this one [3] to Commons , as {{PD-because}} for reason - that according to this official statement - ( L'iconographie de la rubrique "Histoire" : Agence KEYSTONE : la reproduction n’est pas autorisée.)[4] Mainly - it is a question of oficial photos of French politicians of IIIrd and IVth Republic (and Resistance too)

Am I right - or you have any remarks?

Best regards: Andros64 11:35, 16 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Maintenant, on peut utiliser {{PD-UN}} mais pas {{PD-because|it is a document from the United Nations Organisation published before 1989}} pour ses images, n'est-ce pas ? --Jusjih 04:02, 28 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Pictures Removed.[edit]

Hi Yann. My apologies if i made a mistake, this is the first day i have used wikipedia. I noticed you have removed all of the images i uploaded, marked as a copyright violation? its not in violation of any copyright? User:Hunterbecomeshunted

Would you be so kind to secure this template, because one user without any discussion have changed it three days before totally , making legal "fait accompli". If in the meantime he'll change it again, please revert it to the version existing 16.03.2008 before securing. It's just unacceptable way of making serious changes in Commons rules.

All the best:

Copyright violation?[edit]

I think there's a problem with the Image:La Danza.jpg, because, although it says that "This image (or other media file) is in the public domain because its copyright has expired./ This applies to the United States, Canada, the European Union and those countries with a copyright term of life of the author plus 70 years," it is not true, because Henri Matisse died in 1954 and this was less that 70 years ago. I would like to propose deletion for this reason, but I do not know what template should I use. Would you kindly tell me? Thank You. --P. B. Obregón 14:05, 25 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, the picture was made about 100 years ago. Was it in 1906 or 1912, it doesn't change anything. And yes, the picture disappeared from the source. Thanks for uploading Image:Gandhi marseille.jpg.

Thank you.

Rama (talk) 08:23, 6 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Je te prie de lire le template, qui indique, en gras, "author and source of the file must be given". Tu n'as pas indiqué d'auteur. Rama (talk) 08:29, 6 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Yann, you deleted the Trapt image I uploaded claiming it was a promo shot. That is incorrect, I have spoken to the man who took the photograph and I assure you it is his own work. He has also released it using CC for use in wikipedia. Thanks -Yosht (talk) 03:41, 8 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Renommage[edit]

:-) -- Perky (talk) 08:00, 11 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
