Georges Penabert (1825-1903) photographe

Bonjour Yann,

Merci encore. Bien cordialement, LIONEL76 (talk) 10:28, 23 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Apology

Hi Yann, This is probably the most bizarre post I've ever made but anyway here goes - I simply wanted to take the time to apologise for the continued grudge I appeared to have against you, It's no secret we've never got along for various reasons however each and every time you're dragged at AN ... I'm always there telling you how you did this wrong or you did that wrong ..... I even had the nerve to accuse you of stalking an editor even tho I myself was in some respects stalking you ...
If the tables were turned and it was me who was constantly dragged there the last thing I'd want is for you to show up with a sledgehammer,
I've essentially held a grudge against you for the past and that isn't who I am I don't hold petty grudges but anyway I wanted to take the time to apologise and I hope we can put all that crap behind us,
Anyway take care, Thanks, –Davey2010Talk 22:53, 23 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Thank you very much. I appreciate that, really. Regards, Yann (talk) 23:27, 23 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Copyright

How do you attach a permission in the form of screengrab of conversation with copyright holder/creator of contested/deleted Wikimedia file so that such deletion of file can be reversed? Rix Morales (talk) 13:01, 24 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Rix Morales,
The permission has to be sent to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org. Please see COM:OTRS for the detailed instructions. Regards, Yann (talk) 21:52, 24 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

FPCBot issues

Hi. The FPCBot has missed processing this two times now:

Commons:Featured picture candidates/File:Панорама на Лазарополе.jpg/2

I can't tell why. I guess we could manually close it or is there a problem with that nomination?

I think the {{Withdrawn}} template prevents the bot from processing it. The best is to comment out the template. Regards, Yann (talk) 21:55, 24 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

It also didn't close this one, which should have a FifthDay close at 13:13 today. Maybe because that occurred during the bot run? Note the FifthDay checks occurred at 13:15:

Commons:Featured picture candidates/File:Rose Garden - NATO Vista Bridge 3 NBG LR.jpg

Peace, PumpkinSky talk 13:24, 24 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know about the second one. Regards, Yann (talk) 21:55, 24 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
thanks, but now the second one has been skipped by another bot run. It clearly meets FifthDay criteria. Can it be manually promoted? PumpkinSky talk 00:25, 25 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
See comment I made at the Rose Garden nom. It may be the emoticon. 03:01, 25 November 2017 (UTC)
That didn't help. Can you please manually close this? PumpkinSky talk 11:30, 25 November 2017 (UTC)...Missed a 4th bot run. Something is clearly interfering with this being properly processed. PumpkinSky talk 20:04, 25 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Bonsoir Yann,

Merci encore. Bien cordialement, LIONEL76 (talk) 20:54, 25 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Upload

Mr. Yann, are all these paintings uploadable in Commons?? Thapa Kazi999 (talk) 08:48, 29 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Thapa Kazi,
There is not enough information to answer. Who is the painter? When were they painted? Regards, Yann (talk) 08:51, 29 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Ya, I do not know about the painter and the timing of paintings. These are portraits of kings who ruled before 1743 AD as per sources. Can I upload them in the benefit of doubt as in PD-old-1923?? Thapa Kazi999 (talk) 08:58, 29 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thapa Kazi: No. These seem to be recent paintings. Unless you can show that they are at least 120 years old, you should not upload them to Commons. You may get more information while writing to the website. Regards, Yann (talk) 20:52, 29 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Can you help me?

(God is busy. :) Hi. As you may have seen at User talk:Jameslwoodward Jim told me you understand Hindi. If you read my talk there, then go to my TP and read the last chapter, and preferably also make a small research about the user (he has several accounts :) that wrote me in there you will understand I'm a little bit tired, so as to say. Administrative action: Firstly, if I have some insult on my TP, I would like you to rev-del it. I am not even interested in knowing what the text says. OTOH I hate to ask anyone to be blocked, and I don't; but if there is some insult in there please "warn" the concerned person. That is all. Thank you very much and Huda hafeez... Shukria! --E4024 (talk) 11:59, 1 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, This doesn't make sense. You can remove the text. I warned this user, and also nominated one more file for deletion. Let me know if you have any more issue. Regards, Yann (talk) 14:04, 1 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Files uploaded by Leire Cano (13)

Hi Yann! Last June some files (basque literature's book covers) uploaded by Leire Cano were deleted because they didn't have any OTRS permission. Now we can assure that all publishers holding the copyrights have sent the OTRS permission emails. Nevertheless, the book covers have not been restored yet. Could you please check the situation of those files and give us a hand? Here you have the link to the mentioned files. Thank you very much in advance!--Xabier Cañas (talk) 16:37, 6 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Xabier Cañas,
Do you have the OTRS ticket number? Regards, Yann (talk) 17:54, 6 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Yann! Sorry for the delay. We have demanded to the publishers for the tickets and until now we have recovered just these two: Ticket:2017091110008352 and Ticket:2017072110004877. We threat that most of the have already deleted the email. The problem was that the emails were sent in the basque version of the email template, and as there is not any agent who could read in basque, they weren`t attended. Could have a look for the other images please. Thank you very much!--Xabier Cañas (talk) 06:06, 30 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I can't read the tickets, and I am quite busy. Sorry. Yann (talk) 21:26, 3 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Photos Daniel Candé/Gallica

Bonjour Yann.

Hello Yann

During your request I am happy to say I have the right files and approve to use materials and content which I have uploaded. I have a signed file which allow me to use any content from the webpage and photos. Unfortunately, it was not written as following the Wikimedia standards, and therefore I might suggest that you would postpone your notice until I will provide the necessary authorizations. — Preceding unsigned comment added by The contentor (talk • contribs) 19:03, 19 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding the warning for copyright violation

Hello Yann...

I am so sorry and appologize for the violations of your policy. But as a beginner, i am little ignorant perhaps, because all the images i uploaded is not a violation because i am associated with them personally and i have uploaded them with consent. Please guide me what exactly i have to do to approve those images.

Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment was added by 2401:4900:1805:4100:1D06:23DF:1C55:7526 (talk) 13:54, 18 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Apologies and thanks.

Because I am a newbie, I did not understand how to correctly upload the images. In fact, I have not uploaded any image since July 19, so I hope you apologize. I assure you it will not happen again. Thanks for the notices and my sincere apologies. — Preceding unsigned comment added by ErickWikiLoco (talk • contribs) 17:21, 26 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I mad a BIG mistake with a file name: Please, please fix

Hi Yann, I have now logged in. Sorry for the confusion - I am not great at this and often upload a file before I have all the facts. Which is what happened last night!

Please understand Jeff, that Yann was very helpful, and changed a file's formal name BEFORE I myself had double checked the FACTS. This is the file - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meghan_Markle#/media/File:Meghan_Markle%27s_great_great_grandmother,_Mary_Bird_-_a_member_of_staff_of_the_Royal_Household_at_Windsor_Castle_in_the_1850s.jpg

Please note - This photo/file is of a woman who CANNOT have worked at Windsor Castle in 1856. She was born in 1862!!! The file's formal title and description are totally different. Please read the UK Express article - http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-4913756/Meghan-Markle-s-ancestor-royal-maid-Windsor.html.

You will see the photo in the article - the caption underneath the photo makes it clear that this is NOT Meghan Markle's grt grt grt grandmother. The photo is of Markle's Great Great grandmother, Mary Merrill (nee Bird, 1862-1925) - this photo is also in the family web-site that I listed to you in a previous post and her name is Mary Bird Merrill, Bird being her maiden name (i.e., before she was married).

This woman was NEVER a worker at Windsor Castle - she had not been born then. Her MOTHER (Mary Bird) certainly was a worker at Windsor Castle - but not her daughter.

I will now contact Yann and hope that the two of you can discuss the problem I created, check the facts and then fix up my mistake!!!

Meghan Markle's Wikipedia page is enormously popular and we must get the file name correct.

Thanks and sorry againSrbernadette (talk) 05:29, 25 September 2017 (UTC — Preceding unsigned comment added by Srbernadette (talk • contribs) 05:34, 25 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Structured Commons focus group update, December 11, 2017

Hello! You are receiving this message because you signed up for the community focus group for Structured Commons :-)

Later this week, a full newsletter will be distributed, but you are the first to receive an update on new requests for feedback.

Three requests for feedback
  1. We received many additions to the spreadsheet that collects important Commons and Wikidata tools. Thank you! Now, you can participate in a survey that helps us understand and prioritize which tools and functionalities are most important for the Wikimedia Commons and Wikidata communities. The survey runs until December 22. Here's some background.
  2. Help the team decide on better names for 'captions' and 'descriptions'. You can provide input until January 3, 2018.
  3. Help collect interesting Commons files, to prepare for the data modelling challenges ahead! Continuous input is welcome there.

Warmly, your community liaison SandraF (WMF) (talk)

  • Research findings from interviews and surveys of GLAM project participants are being published to the research page. Check back over the next few weeks as additional details (notes, quotes, charts, blog posts, and slide decks) will be added to or linked from that page.
Development
  • The Structured Commons team has written and submitted a report about the first nine months of work on the project to its funders, the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation. The 53-page report, published on November 1, is available on Wikimedia Commons.
  • The team has started working on designs for changes to the upload wizard (T182019).
  • We started preliminary work to prototype changes for file info pages.
  • Work on the MediaInfo extension is ongoing (T176012).
  • The team is continuing its work on baseline metrics on Commons, in order to be able to measure the effectiveness of structured data on Commons. (T174519)
  • Upcoming: in the first half of 2018, the first prototypes and design sketches for file pages, the UploadWizard, and for search will be published for discussion and feedback!

Chris Sherwin

Hi, Yann - a bot deleted the File:Chris Sherwin (veterinary biologist), 2009.jpg - Ticket:2017091410011119 - Can you please restore the image? I uploaded the image and the photographer/copyright holder submitted her license to permissions stating that she licensed the image under a CC-BY-SA 4.0 license. I received the following email as acknowledgment from permissions on September 18, 2017 stating the following:

Please go ahead and upload the photo of Chris Sherwin. The permission has been accepted. All that's still required is the file on Commons so that I may tag it. Yours sincerely, Quintin Williams

I guess he forgot to tag it. The image was used at DYK and on the en.WP article Chris Sherwin. Thanks in advance. Atsme 📞 20:57, 14 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Did you ask JuTa? Regards, Yann (talk) 06:22, 15 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, he directed me to the noticeboard. I guess it's easier to delete than to verify the ticket#. The volunteer simply forgot to tag the image I uploaded. Good thing the DYK was finished or it could've created an issue. Now we're just without an image for the article. It's a bit frustrating when that happens. 2. Help with translation.
  3. If you know of current or previous discussions about blocking tools that happened on your wiki, share the links.
  4. Help summarize the discussion to share back to your wiki.

If you have questions you can contact me on wiki or send an email to the Anti-Harassment Tools team.

Hi You have deleted one of my images without my permission. When I upload an image to wikipedia, it is because I OWN it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kevlangdo (talk • contribs)

(talk page stalker)@Kevlangdo: Hi, images that are uploaded must have a licensing agreement attached to it that releases the image under a free license please see COM:L if you did it would help greatly and one way to get your images possibly restored is to send a ticket in to our COM:OTRS team, and they should be able to help you, they would need some verification that you are the actual copyright holder. If successful they will ask an admin to restore it, as it has been verified that it has been released under a free license. --Clarkcj12 (talk) 04:00, 27 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

No idea, but this bot is quite buggy, and not really maintained. It needs new maintainers, and an overall code review. Regards, Yann (talk) 14:07, 31 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Amicalement, --FramaKa (talk) 09:45, 5 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Bonjour FramaKa,

Is this a faux-nez of Classiccardinal?

Recently I came across this comment by an IP-editor, I am not sure if this is @Classiccardinal: or not, but as you have more experience with this user I'm just curious if this is a faux-nez of him. Note 📝 that I do not advocate blocking of this IP, just confirmation of the possibility that It’s a Classiccardinal faux-nez.

Good Evening,

I am contacting regarding the deletion of photographs uploaded by me to a page Oksana Tanasiv/sandbox

I received a written permission and license rights for using these images on my Wikipedia page and commented regarding on the images page. Photographer Tamiz U.Rezvi sent an e-mail with release of rights to file twice to Permissions Commons twice (for Oksana Tanasiv Artist.jpg, Oksi_Portrait.jpg).

Structured Commons - Design feedback request: Multilingual Captions

Hello! You are receiving this message because you signed up for the the community focus group for Structured Data on Wikimedia Commons.

The Structured Data on Commons team has a new design feedback request up for Multilingual Captions support in the Upload Wizard. Visit the page for more information about the potential designs. Discussion and feedback is welcome there.

On a personal note, you'll see me posting many of these communications going forward for the Structured Data project, as SandraF transitions into working on the GLAM side of things for Structured Data on Commons full time. For the past six months she's been splitting time between the two roles (GLAM and Community Liaison). I'm looking forward to working with you all again. Thank you, happy editing. Notification about possible deletion

Some contents have been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether they should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at their entry.

If you created these pages, please note that the fact that they have been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with them, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

DRs being closed by the files' uploader

Hi Yann. Since you're an admin, OTRS volunteer and univolved, I'm wondering if you'd mind taking a look at COM:AN#DR closes. It seems so wrong for any of the active participants in a DR discusison to unilaterally decide when it should be closed and then proceed to interpret whether a consensus has been established, but it seems even more wrong (if that's possible) when the editor closing the discussion is the uploader of the file being discussed. I am really hoping that this was just a good-faith error made by the files' uploader; if not, then there may be more serious issues in need of discussion than whether a file should be kept or deleted. FWIW, I've posted my concerns about this on the uploader's user talk at User talk:Fhsig13#DR closes, but it might help if an uninvolved admin also posts something as well. -- Marchjuly (talk) 02:58, 31 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I'm fine with your close; however, I am wondering if an {{OTRS permission}} for that particular ticket and {{Derivative}} or {{Derived from}} should be added to the file's page since it does technically seem to be a derivative of copyright work; otherwise, it could be mistakenly assumed the the Yellowshield imagery was original creation of the file's uploader. Jeff G., unlike the uploader, was not claiming that the file was PD; only that image was covered by the OTRS ticket of File:YellowheadShield.jpg.

In addition, it also seems that the OTRS ticket can be used to cover en:File:Yellowhead.png and en:File:British Columbia Yellowhead Highway.png since they basically involve the same Yellowhead shield imagery. Even if this is not the case for some reason, it seems that File:British Columbia Yellowhead Highway 16 3.png can now be used to create free equivalents of these two files, which means that the non-free files are no longer needed per en:NFCC#1. -- Marchjuly (talk) 04:51, 31 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

You also might be interested in en:Wikipedia:Files for discussion/2018 January 18#Non-free road signs used in list article since it discuss whether two of the files I mentioned above need to be licensed as non-free. -- Marchjuly (talk) 04:57, 31 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Jeff G.: Not exactly sure what that means; however, if it helps clarify things, then I'm all for it. If it means you emailed the source of the original OTRS email, then it might be a better idea to simply ask them to upload a cleaner version of the sign imagery (not a photograph of an actual sign) such as what can be found at here. This will make it much clearer as to the original source of the file, and make it much easier to create derivatives. -- Marchjuly (talk) 07:38, 31 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Marchjuly: An answer should help clarify things.   — Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to me 08:14, 31 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
You might want to ask about File:RedCoatTrail.png too since it seems from Commons:Deletion requests/File:RedCoatTrail.png that the OTRS email for this file might have come from the same place. -- Marchjuly (talk) 08:18, 31 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. You uploaded a film poster from India. The image is a non-photographic "artistic work" ([1]). It was copyrighted in India on 1 January 1996, so the URAA must have restored the US copyright. Moreover, "J. Khatri" is credited as probably its artist, though the film studio owned it because the artist created it on its behalf. I can upload a JPEG or PNG file to a local wiki and tag it as non-free per US law for preservation. Thoughts? George Ho (talk) 12:13, 4 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Copyright violations by User:7partparadigm regarding Congressional maps

I noticed you posted a warning over a year ago on User_talk:7partparadigm#Congressional_maps regarding potential violations of copyright in his uploading of congressional district maps. I agree that these are violations. He has tagged them as public domain as work of the U.S. Department of Interior, even though his main source [2] clearly indicates these are copyrighted. That page clearly states its preferred method of citation, which he did not use. I question whether the majority of the sources used to create these files fall under public domain, since two of them are copyrighted books (Martis and Parsons). The National Historical Geographic Information System (NHGIS) is an entity at the University of Minnesota, and the Atlas of Historical County Boundaries is property of the Newberry library. The raw county data is available under a CC-BY-NC-SA non-commercial license, and therefore not are eligible for inclusion on Wikipedia absence approval from the entities.

I believe this data and the maps are a welcome and important addition to Wikipedia, and one that I've been working on for many years, but without a clear source that fits Wikipedia's license, I have been reluctant to upload any of the images I've created. This user went about it the wrong way. Short of posting violations on every single one of his images, do you have any suggestions on how to remedy this situation? The user has not been active since late 2017.

I've cross-posted a link to this on the user page in question to encourage him/her to participate in this discussion. Dcmacnut (talk) 20:48, 5 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion requests

Please notice, that some files look like this: [4], [5], [6]. I have made inquiries in National Gallery in Prague and learned, that hundreds of very low quality photographs were uploaded by (pirate) bot. National Gallery requests to delete all files uploaded by NGCZ.--NoJin (talk) 17:30, 12 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi NoJin,
Corrupt files can be deleted, but Commons does not recognize the claim by the National Gallery, which does not own the copyright of these paintings anyway. There is no "pirate" bot. Regards, Yann (talk) 17:36, 12 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Commons:Deletion requests/File:Brookfield Junction Depot.jpg

I urge you to reconsider your close of Commons:Deletion requests/File:Brookfield Junction Depot.jpg. There is no evidence that the image was published before 1923, and thus {{PD-1923}} is not applicable. Thanks, Pi.1415926535 (talk) 01:02, 13 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Pi.1415926535,
There is either no evidence that it was not published before 1923 (as if it would have come from a personal archive). Claiming that it was not published is way beyond "suspicious doubt" required for copyright violations. Regards, Yann (talk) 03:21, 13 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, I missed that you corrected the date from 1922 to the 1890s. 1890s makes it much more likely that it was either published before 1923. Sorry for missing that! Pi.1415926535 (talk) 03:31, 13 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Commons:Deletion requests/File:Coreus marginatus01.jpg

Hi, I very much disagree with the closure of this deletion request. We have no proof the image was uploaded with email permission; it was apparently uploaded to a website but there are no archived versions that prove it. It doesn't fall under grandfathering because of this, either. I urge you to reconsider. Anarchyte (work | talk) 06:04, 13 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

It was uploaded in 2006. Move on. Yann (talk) 06:07, 13 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Anarchyte, DRs are not votes. You need to find another hobby that creating useless DRs (and I notice that it is not the first time you do that). Do not reopen closed DRs without a new reason, or you might be reported and/or blocked. Regards, Yann (talk) 08:03, 13 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Of course DRs are not votes, I never said so. It is not useless to create DRs for files that do not have proper licensing because that's what DRs are for. Also, I followed the way to appeal a decision to the letter. I contacted the closing admin (you) with a polite message asking you to reconsider, you declined, so I opened a new one with clarification and new information. Additionally, would you be able to guide me to DRs I've opened where I have failed to provide adequate reasoning (not ones that have been closed as keep because consensus was against my nom)? I'm fine with seeking an external opinion at ANU if need-be. Anarchyte (work | talk) 08:11, 13 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Structured Data feedback - What gets stored where (Ontology)

Greetings,

There is a new feedback request for Structured Data on Commons (link for messages posted to Commons: , regarding what metadata from a file gets stored where. Your participation is appreciated.

Happy editing to you. Keegan (WMF) (talk) 22:58, 15 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Why did you write that no valid reason for deletion? It is not true. The author was alive in 1940. In 1944 very likely he was still alive, see {{PD-HU-unknown}} (URAA). And you ignored this: Commons:Anonymous_works#No_author_information, "For example, a organisation may release photographs it has purchased under its own brand name without specifying the individual photographers who were involved. For these reasons, it is typically not correct to assume an author has intended anonymity." What can I do if I think you were mistaken? --Regasterios (talk) 09:48, 13 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Answer? --Regasterios (talk) 12:16, 21 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

No name is mentioned on the postcard. Unless you show evidence that the photographer was known, it is anonymous. Regards, Yann (talk) 12:21, 21 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I think it is righteous to assume that the author was alive in 1944 because of the photo was taken in 1940. And why do we not regard that the author is Sárai Imre? His name is on the rear side of the postcard. And why did you write that "no valid reason for deletion"? It is not true, I has written so much as reason. --Regasterios (talk) 12:34, 21 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Which name? Horthy Miklós is the governor of the Hungarian Kingdom, not the photographer. Regards, Yann (talk) 12:50, 21 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
See the rear side: Sárai Imre Rotációs Fényképsokszorosító (in English: Sárai Imre's Photo Factory). Sárai Imre (western name order: Imre Sárai) was a photographer of Hungary who was alive in 1950. How shall I write it? Did you read off the talk of the DR? The uploader admit that Sárai Imre's name is on the rear side, because he was the factory owner. The uploader denied only that he must be the author. --Regasterios (talk) 13:13, 21 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, you convinced me. I deleted the file. Regards, Yann (talk) 13:23, 21 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. --Regasterios (talk) 13:29, 21 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Demande suppression image

Cordialement, Alice — Preceding unsigned comment added by ArtHitsoireFrance9 (talk • contribs) 11:51, 27 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@ArtHitsoireFrance9: Bonjour,
Cordialement, Yann (talk) 12:28, 27 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Closing DRs after participating?

Most of my experience with deletion discussions is from enwiki. Is there not a rule on Commons that discussions should not be closed by someone who has voted in that same discussion? I saw that in Commons:Deletion requests/File:Mohsen Hojaji funeral in Isfahan.jpg, you were one of the 4 keep votes, then you closed it based on "Quite a majority for keep". Is this normal practice on Commons, or was it a mistake? Note that I am not contesting the closure -- I as the lone person arguing to delete, and my argument was event "weak delete", so I am mainly curious. — Rhododendrites talk07:07, 2 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Rhododendrites,
I would not close this if I was the only one supporting Keep, but there are 3 Keep, including the nominator, for 1 Delete, not counting my opinion. Also the arguments for keeping these are pretty convincing. Regards, Yann (talk) 07:50, 2 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Concerning this:

The images are cropped differently, and the old Maria_Callas.2.JPG was even less similar due to retouching by the original el.Wikipedia uploader. Commons may have several crops, especially for a popular photo. Different images—not mechanical derivatives—may not be deleted under false {{duplicate}} pretext (although may be deleted via regular deletion). Hi, I definitely remember that this photo was uploaded by the same editor and subsequently deleted as a copyvio. First structured licensing conversation on Commons

Greetings,

The first conversation about structured copyright and licensing for Structured Data on Commons has been posted, please come by and participate. The discussion will be open through the end of the month (March). Thank you. -- Keegan (WMF) (talk) 17:26, 16 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Tagging files

Hello, Yann. Thanks for the advice, and sorry for the troubles (and my english). Regards, Edslov (talk) 18:11, 16 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Do you think it would be a good idea to have a dual-language template for the works of Léon van Dievoet to avoid future DRs like the subject one?   — Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to me 16:50, 18 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Without being able to read the OTRS ticket, I suppose that the uploader in this case is a descendant of Léon van Dievoet? If so, we could wrap {{Heirs-license}} around the CC licence. De728631 (talk) 23:32, 18 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Jeff,
What do you mean by "dual-language template"? The ticket is for all works uploaded by this account. And yes, it is a permission from the author's heirs. Regards, Yann (talk) 03:13, 19 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you both. If {{Léon van Dievoet}} looks good to you in French and English, would you mind telling the uploader how to use it in French?   — Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to me 04:06, 19 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Copyright violation on a picture

Hello,

I'm really new to Wikipedia and I have no idea how all the messages and stuff work, so I hope I'm doing this right. I saw that you posted a notification of a copyright violation on my part a while back which concerned the logo of a convention and organization that I am a founding member of: Imagicon. I have no idea why the image/logo was flagged as being copyrighted, and I have a hard time understanding and discerning all the messages and rules that followed. But long story short: We own the logo, and I am the founder of the Imagicon Foundation, so I don't understand why this is an issue, or why I was reported multiple times. I think I only uploaded an article once, with one picture, and that's it. I do get that the article was against the guidelines, even though I think I tried my hardest to comply. I'm having a hard time following or even understanding the discussions that followed the flagging of my article; Wikipedia is not a very clear-cut site in that regard.

Anyway, don't know if you even remember doing this, but in any case I wanted to let you know that as far as I'm aware there was no copyright violation. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ptarn (talk • contribs) 14:01, 19 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Ptarn: Hi,
Everybody here is essentially anonymous, except a few people who use their real identity. So we have no way to know that you are the copyright owner of these logos. Our policy is that, if a work was previously published elsewhere, a formal written permission has to be sent by email to confirm the copyright status of the file. Please see COM:OTRS for the instructions how to do that. The files will be undeleted once the permission is validated. Sorry for the inconvenience. Please ask if you have any question. Regards, Yann (talk) 14:51, 19 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

State Microbe

What permissions do I need to get for the "State Microbe Poll" that you deleted from my page yesterday in order to use it? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Docwarhol (talk • contribs) 16:59, 19 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Docwarhol: Hi,
Your file is a copyright violation and out of scope. First it is a derivative work of the website under a copyright by the Rutgers University. Second we don't usually accept website screenshots, unless the website itself is notable enough to have its own article, which is certainly not the case here. Regards, Yann (talk) 07:05, 20 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Test-thank

Hi. Did you just receive a Flow-Thank from me? I was testing, and I was mostly surprised when the link seems to have worked. Alsee (talk) 14:08, 20 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Nevermind, no reply needed. I was able to confirm it myself. Alsee (talk) 14:18, 20 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Advice requested

Hi, I came upon the following three files: File:Bruno Santori.jpg, File:Santori e Carletti.jpg, and File:Bruno Santori 2.jpg. They were uploaded originally on the itWP and moved here by a bot. However, something doesn't seem right to me. The first one, for example, indicates that the author is "Celeste", but permission was given by Info.Bruno. The metadata include a copyright holder (Luca Cicchello). The second has no metadata and lists Info.Bruno as its author, but assuming that this is the subject himself, this is clearly not a selfie, so the person who took the picture should be listed as author. The third has no metadata either, but Lorenzo Foschini is listed as the author although, again, Info.Bruno is the uploader and presumably the person releasing this under CC-BY. I'm not sure what to do with this. Perhaps it has already been checked when the bot uploaded it here and I'm just overly worried... Thanks for having a look. --Randykitty (talk) 15:57, 20 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Randykitty,
You spotted them right. Please create deletion requests for these files, and inform the original uploader(s). Thanks, Yann (talk) 16:05, 20 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Consideration of undeletion request

Hi Yann. I posted a request to undelete a file that I originally uploaded to Wikimedia Commons yesterday which was deleted due to alleged copyright violation. As you were the administrator of record in its deletion, I would appreciate your review and input on the request. Thank you. Georgian (talk) 11:29, 21 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Logo Matière Grise

Bonjour,

Merci beaucoup d'avance, --Sarah.hn94 (talk) 11:39, 21 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Bonjour Sarah.hn94,

May want to reconsider whether this warning has been effective, or whether additional steps should be taken. GMGtalk 14:09, 21 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Cats

Hi Yann, Can you restore all of my categories you've just deleted please,

These should've been marked with the {{empty category}} and as such should not have been deleted, Also the nominator failed to even notify me, The categories are still in use (I just leave gaps between uploading so I can upload in bulk as opposed to uploading one image a day or thereabouts), Thanks, –Davey2010Talk 15:44, 21 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

✓ Done Allforrous tagged them for speedy deletion. Regards, Yann (talk) 18:05, 21 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Yann, I know I've had a go at him lol, Thanks for kindly restoring them it's very much appreciated, If I ever see you IRL the beer's are on me :), Happy editing, –Davey2010Talk 18:07, 21 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Davey2010, Sure! Initially, I was wondering why you asked me about cats ;oD. BTW, they make pretty good Chicken Tikka Masala around here (I am in India nowadays). Best regards, Yann (talk) 18:40, 21 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Yann, Haha ahhhh right :D, I thought "Well I can't see any admin randomly deleting these it wouldn't make sense ?," and then figured someone went on a CSD-tagging spree! ,
I'd love to try the Masala there I bet it's beautiful :), I occasionally cook my own but it's nothing compared to the Indian takeaways so one can only imagine the taste in India :), –Davey2010Talk 18:57, 21 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Cordialement, Yann (talk) 18:34, 21 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Block of Hans-Jürgen_Neubert

Is this temp/warning or permanent?. Permanent appears to be harsher than what he wrote in my mother tang.--Tobias "ToMar" Maier (talk) 11:53, 25 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, See the block log. He is blocked for a week. Regards, Yann (talk) 11:54, 25 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, that's it. Regards, Yann (talk) 13:08, 25 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

OK thank you. I'll remove this talk page from my whatch list. In case there is anything else, you got to write on mine.--Tobias "ToMar" Maier (talk) 13:33, 25 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Wrong lisense too

these files need to be deleted in a similar way; (Commons:Deletion requests/File:Turkish Army Captured Afrin 04.jpg)

All of these files have wrong license.

--Ahmet Turhan (talk) 07:41, 21 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Ahmet Turhan,
Could you please create a deletion request, and inform the uploader(s). Thanks, Yann (talk) 07:48, 21 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
All images have wrong licence like "File:Turkish Army Captured Afrin 04.jpg". --Ahmet Turhan (talk) 15:09, 26 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Ahmet Turhan: OK, there is something fishy here. I am making a report on COM:ANU: Commons:Administrators' noticeboard/User problems#Images from the Turkish army uploaded by Mohamadrsk. Thanks, Yann (talk) 18:00, 26 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Licence

Hi For copyright, when the licence is clearly false, what is the solution ? Also, for iPhone and S9, the files was free and taken from Flickr. --Panam2014 (talk) 10:43, 26 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Panam2014: We need a source for the wallpapers. But these are advertising, not for Commons. If you find a suspect file, nominate it for deletion, and do not forget to inform the uploader. Regards, Yann (talk) 10:46, 26 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, this was deleted because of missing source/permission and immediately uploaded again as File:Kamalbjp.jpg. Can you have a look please? Thanks! --Randykitty (talk) 06:46, 27 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

(talk page stalker)-- Randykitty, I have converted it to a proper DR. The source of the image is facebook. Thus, evidence of permission should be sent to our support team. I have however issued a final warning to the uploader. Regards. Wikicology (talk) 09:01, 27 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

so called copyright violation(s)

I've uploaded photo which you seem to contantly deem to be copyright violations. There are almost all images of publicity material, which one, presumes is the whole point of them. The latest is of Gerald Morgan - a photo given to me by him for the expressed purpose of publicising the fact that he was speaking at an event I was organising. What's going on? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Stefanik (talk • contribs) 18:54, 28 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Stefanik: Hi,
You need a permission from the copyright holder, probably the photographer, for a free license to publish them here. Please see COM:OTRS for the instructions. And do not reupload any such file without a proper permission, or you might be blocked. Regards, Yann (talk) 03:37, 29 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Yann. Here's another one uploaded by Thwekanyaw. I don't think licensing is correct, but it might also be PD for one reason or another. Do you think this should be DR'd as well. -- Marchjuly (talk) 05:33, 29 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Marchjuly,
Yes, you are right. Please create a DR. Regards, Yann (talk) 05:41, 29 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
What do you think about File:Gfav.png, File:Southave fc-300x295.png, File:Cfclogo.png, File:Hotspursfcsinngaporelogo.jpg and File:Fcnipponlogo.png. It seems like this editor uploaded a bunch of files as "own work", etc. which might need to be checked. -- Marchjuly (talk) 05:42, 29 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
At least File:Cfclogo.png and File:Fcnipponlogo.png should be OK with {{PD-textlogo}}. May be also File:Hotspursfcsinngaporelogo.jpg. Regards, Yann (talk) 05:48, 29 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for taking a look. -- Marchjuly (talk) 07:35, 29 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
