Crafts Museum text

Dear Yann, I am grateful for the wonderful photos you clicked of the Crafts Museum. I hope to see more in the future. We are still in the process of filing an OTRS ticket but here is the possible text you could use: "This image is a part of the GLAM collaboration between the Crafts Museum, New Delhi and Wikimedia community in India. Under this collaboration the Crafts Museum, New Delhi has permitted photography and release of its images under CC-BY-SA 3.0 and/or other free licenses in the public domain." Merci beaucoup, Yann :) A bientot! Noopur28 (talk) 11:24, 1 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Combat de cornes dans les coins

Salut.
Merci, tu as l'œil !

--Jebulon (talk) 14:19, 9 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Issue fixed on Commons Archive

Hi Yann, just wanted to let you know I fixed the issue that was preventing your additional SR2 uploads on Commons Archive (in the end I just disabled TIFFHandler, which is not fond of almost-TIFF formats like SR2). Please feel free to upload a few more files - I've been uploading some more NEFs. I also moved from S3 storage to EBS storage and did other performance tuning, which should make it much more responsive. Dcoetzee (talk) 17:34, 14 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Images from Digitalt Museum, Norway

You have tagged one of my uploads with missing permission. The file has a link to the source, where the license is stated (cc-by-sa-3.0). The museum has a page where they inform more about licensing, see [1]. I have removed the missing permission-tag, but if you think there still are some problems with the image, I suggest you nominate it for deletion (which would affect most of the images in Category:Media from the collection of Oslo Museum and Category:Images from Digitalt Museum, Norway). Best regards - 4ing (talk) 13:59, 26 April 2012 (UTC).[reply]

Does this FP candidate Commons:Featured picture candidates/File:Durga, Burdwan, 2011.JPG violates copyright on commons? Please see discussion on its nomination page. There are so many images of durga idol there in commons for many years. This is a QI and VI. I am asking you because you have supported the image for FP. You also supported the image for becoming QI and you are an administrator on commons. What is your thought about this? Thanks in advance. -- Joydeep (talk) 16:02, 27 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

camera quality

Hi Yann, thanks for the feedback re the bracelet. That particular image was heavily cropped, in poor light (indoors in a museum that didn't allow flash) and without using the tripod. File:Vani belt (inside view of stag).JPG is a photo taken with the same camera in the same lighting but uncropped, and File:Lady with Pearl.JPG is an uncropped photo taken outdoors with the same camera - probably with the tripod. Do you think it would be technically possible to take a quality image with that camera? Jonathan Cardy (talk) 16:40, 28 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I think it is difficult. Images from cheap cameras have a lot of noise, and are not sharp. There are suitable for Web uses, but the quality is too low for QI. You can still get valued images with your camera as the quality standard is much lower. Regards, Yann (talk) 16:45, 28 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Yann. Can you tell me what you mean by "no copyright on ordinary light"? I can't understand this phrasing. Tomer T (talk) 20:04, 28 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

There can't be a copyright on simple lightning. See Platonides' comment. Plus in this case, it is a general view, which means that an unavoidable copyrighted element in a larger view is allowed. Yann, we received an OTRS email about this image. Apparently someone else has submitted it to a Qatar Airways contest as their own work although you have licensed the image as CC-BY-SA. The submission is at [3]. cheers. —SpacemanSpiff 11:01, 7 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The email only informed us that the sender found the image on this link as a user submission. Apparently, Qatar airways gains copyright of all user submissions. Sender informed us that he sent a message to Qatar Airways saying that the image is not from the uploader, but rather one from a Wikipedia editor. I've informed the sender about this conversation. If you wish I can ask the sender to contact you directly using the "E-mail this user" function, but I'm not sure that the sender knows anything more either, he just happened to see it and recognized the image as one used on Wikipedia. cheers. —SpacemanSpiff 17:06, 7 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I opened Commons:Deletion requests/File:小倉優子.jpg; in retrospect, I probably should have speedied it as a copyvio; I'm not sure it would be appropriate for me to do that now, since I've already opened it as a deletion request. Grand pictures edit war - Steinway marketing (white? grey? black?) in the german WP

Hi Yann, I do not stand to re-discuss the deletion of the Bechstein concert grand harp.. But I'd like to inform you that same nick "hereiamfriends" was active in the german wikipedia and tried to replace pictures of other grands by pictures of Steinway grands, mostly without real use for the Wikipedia article but to be enabled to promote the Steinway brand in the picture description line down.. He was not the only one, there was/is a group of short-term users acting. If interested see version history of de:Flügel (Tasteninstrument). Edit wars about replacing of photographs, and deleting "other" pics being part of this edit war. They abused your deletion service - my opinion. It was not up to "hereiamfriends" to claim deletion, there was to my knowledge no Bechstein complaint about copyright abuse.

I don't know if this is officially done with consent or activity of the Steinway company - or if we face a plot of guerilla marketing. Just for your information. BTW 1 do we have another aerial view of a concert grand harp? Should I try to obtain the consent of the Bechstein company? It was "utterly powerful arguing" of a "Steinway man" (assumed) that to use a Bechstein photograph without written consent were illegal.. BTW 2 I am no "Bechstein man" but a happy owner of a Steinway grand and a contributor to a lot of Steinway stuff here. This "Steinway PR" stinks. My 0.02 Euro Cents. Best regards -- de:User:AxelKing (in the DE and EN WP)

Demande d'aide pour l'upload, stp

Bonsoir Yann,

--PierreSelim (talk) 15:13, 21 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Images created by me

Hello Yann, I uploaded 3 images that have been created by me on Photoshop. I don't understand why you state that they are copyright violations. (Lemon-pie-receta.png/Página de calendario.png/Tiramisu-receta.png).

Thanks User:Anikurson

Hello again, Yann,

For a subject I have at university (last year student of Translation and Interpreting), I had to choose an article in English and translate it, or adapt it, to Spanish. The original article already had one image (Digital Scrapbooking), but I thought it would be better to add some more as examples of this art. Since it's been a long time I do this as a hobbie, I thought about adding some of my own and some others which have been downloaded from websites with Scrapbooking material I use (I don't have a record of each website so I don't know exactly where I got each file, there are too many).

So basically I have two types of image: my own creations and images showing what a "Scrapbooking" set of materials look like. How do you suggest I could fix this problem?

Thank you a lot User:Anikurson

Hi Yann, please explain why you deleted image off Edmund Arthur Harvey's wiki? This image was crucial in showing how he was influenced by Arthur Murch who is an Archibald Prize winner and an important Australian War Artist. I would appreciate a proper explanation for your action. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Restub (talk • contribs)

Images remarquables

Bonjour !

Are you by chance the admin of the inactive Wikisource Facebook page? Or do you know who is? I am the owner of this photo. And I want to share this photo on wiki via Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 licence. Why I must vindicate my right to this photo like I'm stolen it?

So what is solution here?
* I must made another photo and upload to wiki at first before another sites?
* I can sent to you the source in high resolution of this photo and other from this photo-session (Photos that has never been uploaded to the internet). Maybe this will help you to approve this photo and restore.

Hello, Yann!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Pepita Sánchez

Hi,

it's Norgodian. I've seen you have delete some of the pics i've uploaded for an article I recently created for Pepita Sánchez, a former Spanish gymnast (well, actually she's my mother). Concerning the file "Pepita Sánchez.jpg, please, could you delete it too? By now I have not enough information on the copyright. I'll get in touch with the press agency to see how could I use the file in a proper way. The same thing for the rest of deleted pics.

It is my very firt article in wikipedia so I'm trying to learn as fast as I can but I have to confess that all these concepts and norms related to copyright and licenses are a mess for me (by now!). Thanks for your help and understanding. --Norgodian (talk) 19:23, 16 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Yann. Sure, it is complicated. I guess I could get a permission from the Spanish News Agency EFE but I'll have to pay for using the pics. Well, I have to decide what to do. I'll let you know and maybe i'll ask you for some help with any doubt i may have. Thanks!!! --83.247.136.57 17:59, 20 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Yann. Could you have a glance at this photo montage?
Yann (talk) 08:59, 18 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Independência ou Morte

Why were the other "Independência ou Morte" files kept if they have lower resolution and quality? They aren't being used at all. --Lecen (talk) 13:47, 18 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Because duplicate is not a reason for deletion. Yann (talk) 13:51, 18 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Then does it means that we can have 100 different and worse versions of the same picture? --Lecen (talk) 14:28, 18 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
We delete files if they are exact or scale-down duplicate only. Yann (talk) 16:16, 18 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yann, thanks for the comment on my pic. Well, this is one situation where there is no correct way, the reasons for one to like an image may be the reason why someone else doesn´t. I often use shallow dof in order to make the eye, and the mind, travel on the picture and lead it to an area of critical focus, which is what the mind seeks. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn´t. QI question

I noticed that you have alot of experience with quality images, so I hope you don't mind a quick question. I've uploaded hundreds of images like this: File:William Black 1.jpg from public domain pdfs at archive.org. Do you think images like this taken from pdfs could qualify to be quality images? INeverCry 19:13, 12 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
No, they would not qualify, not only because of low quality, but because they are not works of Wikimedia contributors. Regards, Yann (talk) 06:52, 13 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Bonjour,

Deletion requests William Rothenstein images

British artist en:William Rothenstein died in 1945. Apparently images first published in the US before 1923 are in the public domain in the US. But, as far as I know, not in Great Britain and other countries. Why were these image then kept? Isn't there a rule in Commons that an image should at least be PD in the US and the country of origin? (see Commons:Public_domain#Interaction_of_United_States_copyright_law_and_non-US_copyright_law) Jan Arkesteijn (talk) 09:50, 18 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

These documents were published in USA and UK, AFAICT, so the USA are as much a country of origin as UK. Yann (talk) 10:32, 18 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
That's weird. So, an English artist creates a piece of art in the UK, and they are published in the UK. Therefore they are not in the PD in the UK, am I right? Please explain. Jan Arkesteijn (talk) 13:17, 18 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
No, that's not weird. It is published both in UK and USA, and for our purpose, both USA and UK are countries of origin. It is the case for many English books, which are published in several countries in the same time. Yann (talk) 14:04, 18 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I feel you avoid my question, I am not talking about the US: what is the copyright status in the UK? And if that would be PD, why is that? Jan Arkesteijn (talk) 14:20, 18 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Well, it might still be under a copyright in the UK, but the question is moot for Commons, i.e. it has no practical impact or relevance. Yann (talk) 07:03, 19 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I have asked the question to others over here, because I want to know what others think about this interpretation. Jan Arkesteijn (talk) 09:41, 19 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

FOP, etc.

Bonjour, Yann.

I understood that you live in India or at least you spend a lot of time there.. It is a pity that I didn't contact you last February because I was travelling to India for 5 weeks.. ;-)

My question is the following... may-be it is out of topic.. have you tried to travel from India -> Myammar -> Thailand?

One of my plans is to organize a trip.. flying to Delhi or Kathmandu (wherever I find the cheapest flight), then cross all India go and visit Myammar and then Thailand.. and fly back from Bangkok. Ggia (talk) 12:19, 24 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

No, I have never made such a trip, but it would certainly be fascinating, and with the democratization of Myamar, it might now be possible. Tell me if you succeed doing that. Yann (talk) 12:22, 24 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Yann. As you told me I have nominated this image for FP and it is featured now. Is it possible to make it picture of the day for 22nd October 2012? Because 22nd October is the main day of festival (Mahastami as said in bengali) for this year. Regards. -- JDP90 (talk) 08:00, 25 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, sure. If the date is already taken, you may have to negociate to swap the other picture to another date. Yann (talk) 08:03, 25 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Actors/Actresses from India

These are supposed to be a master categories, all the actors/actresses are meant to be categorized under the respective state and language categories which are listed under here. cheers. —SpacemanSpiff 11:27, 26 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It does not matter if the actor/actress is from UP or MH, they all work for Bollywood. If I look for an Indian actor/actress, I would have to search in all subcategories, which is completely unpractical and useless. Subcategories may have other uses, but in this case, it should not be substituted to the main category. A category may be heavy if it contain many images, but not if it contain many subcategories. Language is a more interesting criteria, but it is not replacement either: an actor/actress may shot movies in several languages. Yann (talk) 12:15, 26 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, but this is absurd. ALL bollywood actors/actresses are classified under Hindi film actors and Hindi film actresses which is the correct category. India does NOT mean Bollywood and vice versa. What you are doing is a very unhelpful and impractical categorization that confuses the issue more than anything. —SpacemanSpiff 13:51, 26 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Remerciements divers

--Claude Truong-Ngoc (talk) 05:22, 28 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

La même licence. Ça me semble bon ici avec Cc-zero qui correspond. Cordialement, Yann (talk) 05:06, 29 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of my images

Hi, some of my recent uploads are marked for deletion and some are deleted already. The comments provided are "Probably not own work seing uploader history, no source, no permission" looks way too vague. I have close to 1000 contributions in commons - some of the images are of low quality due to conversion from old optical images and background masking done manually. If you are commenting on uploader history, check whole upload history and not superficially. I am removing tags on my work. Also two days is very less a time for delete before discussion. Some of my previous images were deleted as the mail template for permission was not wrong & i have requested the owner to upload himself. If you still feel discrepancies, please ping me back.Ssriram mt (talk) 21:59, 28 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Yann, I see that you have undeleted these images, which were deleted by User:Jameslwoodward following a deletion discussion, and which, following discussion at Village pump/Copyright and your undeletion request, User:Fastily found no consensus to restore. Has there been another discussion about these that I haven't seen? If your undeletion was not based on some discussion other than(and after) those I mentioned, I'll ask you to undo it. Thanks, cmadler (talk) 12:21, 5 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, there was more discussion with Jim, and Jastrow, who is the most knowledgeable about French copyright here, agreed that this design is too simple to get a copyright. Yann (talk) 12:37, 5 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Commons:Deletion requests/File:Mario Bros with Cube - Graffiti.JPG

You closed Commons:Deletion requests/File:Mario Bros with Cube - Graffiti.JPG with the claim Graffiti is illegal, therefore no copyright. Not only is that unproven, but it's entirely irrelevant. The graffiti artist is not the holder of the copyright of Mario Bros, and the graffiti is therefore a copyright violation, and so is a photo of it. In this case, the problem can be effectively removed, so the file does not need deletion, but such a closure is very wrong, and I'd like you to reconsider it. Rd232 (talk) 23:46, 12 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

And it is also de minimis in this case. Please look for more useful battles. Yann (talk) 05:07, 13 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Please do not brush off serious questions - we cannot have Commons admins who do not understand the basics of copyright (or don't think they're important). Just now you've provided the same rationale Graffiti is illegal, therefore no copyright at Commons:Deletion requests/File:Kefalonia Fae085.jpg, where it is an appropriate argument (though I'm not 100% it is correct, I'm willing to go along with it in the absence of more evidence). But it's absolutely not the case for Commons:Deletion requests/File:Mario Bros with Cube - Graffiti.JPG, and nor is that case de minimis: the description and filename makes it crystal clear that the copyrighted element is central to the motivation for the taking of the photo; this is the opposite of de minimis. Your adding this example to COM:DM just proves you don't understand DM. Rd232 (talk) 09:59, 13 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Please do not try to teach me copyright law, nor previous Commons practice. It is certainly not allowed to tag this monument, therefore this graffiti is illegal. This file can be renamed if you think it is important. Yann (talk) 10:04, 13 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Image du dromon à retirer

Salut!

Image guidelines

Hi. I saw your FPX here. According to Guidelines: Images should have at least 2 real megapixels of information.

If you think this image is too small but fit guidelines, shouldn't you simply oppose and not use FPX? Thanks. --M.casanova (talk) 07:34, 16 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Yann,
You've deleted this picture only a day after I had uploaded it. Shouldn't it be 7 days given before deletion?
I have already sent the permission for Cc-by-sa-3.0 to OTRS and I didn't know I had to put "OTRS pending" template (or the license itself) in there.
Would it be possible to reconstruct the file until the permission is approved?
Thank you, Liadmalone (talk) 14:10, 16 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

OK, fine. There was no license, but I restored it. Thank you for your participation. Yann (talk) 14:17, 16 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your co-operation. Liadmalone (talk) 14:54, 16 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yann, it was omitted from the request for deletion requests that these files are also duplicates of File:The Urantia Book, 1st Edition.djvu Apart from these being duplicates, though I will admit to a higher resolution, they are djvu which automatically means that they are not of quality to replicate, and that the work is in so many multiple components basically means nothing will happen with it once the other version has been reproduced at English Wikisource.

I believe that the discussion has been closed too quickly, that all the parts should be concatenated into the one discussion, and I do not see the need for a speedy close.  — billinghurst sDrewth 13:51, 17 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

So do you mean that all content from Category:The Urantia Book are duplicate? Regards, Yann (talk) 14:09, 17 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Uploader WikiWatcher1 is currently blocked for several or few more days. Honestly, you closed the debate as "kept", yet keep votes have been very faulty. If majority triumphs logic, then why am I having doubts? --George Ho (talk) 22:56, 16 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

DR opinions are not votes. Majority is no power. What is important is law. I followed the opinion of Carl Lindberg, who is the most knowlegeable expert on copyright law here. Yann (talk) 05:16, 17 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Lindberg is not officially a consultant of copyrights, is he? No matter what he says about this photo, prior publication has not yet proven. --George Ho (talk) 15:12, 17 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
He is 10 times more competent than you, that's the point. Yann (talk) 15:25, 17 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Back to this photo, I am trying to find original proprietor by searching it in Rex Features, but one photo is inaccessible. To access, I must work for a company. Moreover, side borders and back photo are omitted. Speaking of Lindberg, you seriously think that this photo was published in magazines and any other, do you? Copies of periodicals are hard to find, and microfiches are becoming obscure. We are still unsure if it is a British work or not. --George Ho (talk) 22:49, 17 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Why delete File:Biboy Rivera.jpg picture?

Dude,

I know the picture came from Facebook but I was given permission by the person to use his photo (he's given me a jpg file instead)and I've emailed permissions-commons@wikimedia.org regarding it since they've sent a warning regarding the photograph.

I hope you consider it now. What's your email address? I'll send you an email copy regarding his permission.

Don't be too deletion-hungry. What I'm trying to come up here is clean and not spammy. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Autobahnned (talk • contribs)

You are not the photographer, so you need to send a permission to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org. See COM:OTRS for details. Regards, Yann (talk) 05:16, 19 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I already sent an email to that specific email address. The guy who owned the photograph sent me a permission through his email. Now can i get the picture back up? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Autobahnned (talk • contribs)
According to OTRS volunteer, a more detailed proof of consent is needed. Regards, Yann (talk) 09:42, 19 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Bollywood/India etc

In response to your comments (I'm quite busy off-wiki now, so not active currently).

 • Reg Bollywood, Marathi/Gujarati films are not covered by the title, only Hindi (see en:Bollywood) although there sometimes is a misconception and there's incorrect classification.
 • Reg a wikiproject for India, I think that's a good idea as we have many users contributing to different language wikis and this will be a good spot to coordinate naming conventions as well as a lot of maintenance work on images. If you wish to start this, I can post a note on a couple of the wikis and there are others (Sreejithk2000, Animeshkulkarni, Jayantanath, MikeLynch, etc) who are active in other language wikis and can possibly help coordinate editors from there to participate here.
 • As far as Actors from state vs Actors from India, I don't have a particular preference on this; however, if we have state, I don't think we should be cluttering the country with it. I'm fine with establishing a convention of either one of them, but I don't want a mix of both. So far, at least as far as India is concerned (and I'm a recent participant to the categorization), I've seen the "from state" finding more favor.

cheers. —SpacemanSpiff 05:08, 19 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Quick question

Hi Yann. I've been asked to restore File:Albert Anton von Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt.jpg and another like it. Aside from the copyvio issue for which this was deleted, I wonder about restoring such tiny thumbs of paintings? Both of these files are 2 or 3kb. Are they even in scope? Thanks for your time. INeverCry 15:28, 21 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Such tiny images are useless for us. Yann (talk) 15:45, 21 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I figured as much. Thanks for the quick response. INeverCry 15:48, 21 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

arab gas

Regarding your un-deletion of File:05 04 21 Gas the Arabs.jpg: two important points were overlooked in the closer's summary statement, and don't appear to have been considered by you in undeleting the file. Specifically:

 1. Documented consent for the photo's subject (which is required in Israel) isn't on file, and
 2. The image is out of scope, as it cannot be used in a remotely objective/npov fashion.

I'm asking you to self-revert and re-delete. Failing that, I'm asking you to explain your suggestion that the DR be re-opened, as the nomination page now reads "This deletion debate is now closed. Please do not make any edits to this archive." 24.177.121.137 17:40, 21 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, This is the wrong place for your request. As I said, if you have further issues, reopen the DR. The DR was closed for the wrong reason. Then as someone requested undeletion, it seems quite justified to undelete the picture. I have no problem to be deleted again with a proper rationale. Yann (talk) 05:02, 22 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Salut Yann. Just wanted to let you know that I have now moved the slightly different version of this image that had been sitting at en.wiki under fair use to Commons. Please see File:Affiche rouge 182x152.jpg. De728631 (talk) 12:57, 23 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

File:Elding 2.jpg

Hi, you recently deleted this image. I'm just wondering if that was correct, considering the relevant deletion request is still ongoing? Cheers, Mattythewhite (talk) 14:50, 19 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Don't mean to be a nuisance but a reply would be appreciated. Cheers, Mattythewhite (talk) 15:51, 23 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
This is certainly a copyright violation. The uploader has to prove that it isn't. Please discuss the matter in the DR, not here. Yann (talk) 05:03, 24 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
But isn't it right that image(s) are only deleted once the DR has concluded? At WP I've never seen articles, categories etc. deleted before discussions are closed, so why does it happen here? I know this isn't the DR, but it's a query over the possibly premature deletion of images, so I thought it best to drop you a message. Cheers, Mattythewhite (talk) 16:21, 24 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
In case of copyright violation, there is no delay. Images can be deleted any time. Yann (talk) 17:01, 24 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Turelio said I could ask you about a sources issue. I am interested in uploading some French archival pix for an article on a French subject going back to the 1920s-30s. I don't want to waste my time doing the uploads if the source won't be accepted.

Sources again

Thanks for the quick answer. Does PD mean the author has to have been dead for over 70 years? Is there any way that material can be PD if the author has not been dead for 70 years, e.g. if the author is unknown? Sardaka (talk) 07:30, 25 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

In most cases, yes. If the picture was published without any attribution, it can be said to be anonymous, then it is in the public domain 70 years after the publication, therefore a date of publication is necessary. Yann (talk) 09:46, 25 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Could you review if we can restore File:Възел на Маринкова.png as a PD material? You deleted it as "Insufficient information. Needs a permission", but I found that this is in public domain, from a work of Henry Gray (1827-1861), Anatomy of the Human Body, 1918. The illustrator is Henry Vandyke Carter (1831-1897) per w:en:Gray's Anatomy. See also [5]. --whym (talk) 23:36, 25 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Raison de suppression ?

Bonjour Yann,

Cordialement, Yann (talk) 02:56, 28 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
