Thanks for uploading File:Palmcard1.pdf. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.
Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own). Warning: unless the permission information is given, the file may be deleted after seven days. Thank you. |

Hi Wes Duncan![edit]
Here at Commons we take copyright seriously, even for pamphlets. We need to know you are really Wes Duncan and have the rights to these. At https://tools.wmflabs.org/relgen/ you will get instructions to provide this information. Thanks in advance and welcome to Commons! - Alexis Jazz 05:04, 10 February 2018 (UTC)

Copyright violations[edit]
Hello Vicfarland.
You have uploaded one or more files that are copyright violations. You have done so despite requests from editors not to do so, and despite their instructions. See Commons:Licensing for the copyright policy on Wikimedia Commons. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules by subject matter useful. This is your last warning. The next time you upload a file that violates copyright, you will be blocked. Please leave me a message if you have further questions. |

Uploading photos[edit]
Can you guys tell me what I am doing wrong? We are uploading campaign photos that we have the rights to and I have done the email releases and our stuff is getting deleted. We need to undelete these images. I’m using an official wesduncan.com email. What is the issue here? Vicfarland (talk) 22:07, 10 March 2018 (UTC)
- That's very good. File:Wes with dog.jpg needed permission because it has been published on other media (Twitter) before it was uploaded here. As you can see, this (OTRS) permission has been added and this picture will not be deleted. The photo that was deleted, File:Wes-1.jpg was made by Cathleen Allison for AP. In order to use that her permission is needed. I'm sure you have obtained the rights to use that photo in the campaign, but to re-license it is a different story. - Alexis Jazz 09:44, 11 March 2018 (UTC)
- Please send OTRS permission for File:Palmcard1.pdf and File:Palmcard2.pdf. Also, go to your preferences/notifications and make sure Email notification is enabled for talk page messages. You may also want to enable email notification for mentions. - Alexis Jazz 18:49, 11 March 2018 (UTC)

Palmcard photo[edit]
I've noticed that the photo from Palmcard2.pdf is also used on the WesDuncan Twitter account as his profile picture. But on Twitter the photo looks much better and lighter. The Palmcards are probably scanned? Perhaps you could upload the original photo (preferably untouched from the camera, we can do any cropping and other visual correction if needed) and provide OTRS for it so we can improve the photo on the Wikipedia page.
In case you are wondering why this is okay and the Cathleen Allison/AP photo wasn't: it's difficult for us to determine exactly what you are allowed to do with the photo from Cathleen Allison. The photo from the palmcard is (almost certainly) a Work for hire: (from Wikipedia)
- the work must come within one of the nine limited categories of works listed in the definition above, namely (1) a contribution to a collective work, (2) a part of a motion picture or other audiovisual work, (3) a translation, (4) a supplementary work, (5) a compilation, (6) an instructional text, (7) a test, (8) answer material for a test, (9) an atlas;
- the work must be specially ordered or commissioned;
- there must be a written agreement between the parties specifying that the work is a work made for hire by use of the phrase "work for hire" or "work made for hire."
This is probably a "contribution to a collective work" or a "supplementary work".
You have (or should have) a written agreement that states the photos from that photoshoot are a "work for hire". I don't know if OTRS will require you to show it but I guess you may find out.
You are welcome to upload more photos/videos, especially those you have made yourself. We do require them to be educational, but this is a broad term. Photos of politicians and other notable people, photos from notable events, places/buildings are all welcome. When in doubt, just upload them. Some might be removed, but that happens to all of us.
Photo/video made by Wes Duncan himself as part of his military duties is also welcome. Such photos have no copyright issues. In the Upload Wizard you can select "This work was made by the United States government". Also the photo on the left from https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DVfn0XsVwAAJzyF.jpg:large could perhaps be added to the article, assuming the author is part of the military as well. - Alexis Jazz 03:13, 14 March 2018 (UTC)
