Single Image Galleries

As a general rule, Commons Galleries with only a single image such as Hapalopsittaca amazonina are not permitted, see Commons:Galleries. I notice that you have created several of them. Do you intend to add more images?      Jim . . . . Jameslwoodward (talk to me) 18:45, 24 February 2012 (UTC)

Hi James. To be exact I've created four such galleries, all of those for the same reason. On Commons:Valued image candidates/SpilornisRufipectusGould.jpg, พ.s. said me that the scope needed a gallery. On previous VI proposals like Commons:Valued image candidates/Canirallus kioloides 1868.jpg, the scope was linked to the category:, not in the Main, but I did what we asked me to do :) So I created Spilornis rufipectus, and today, for four new proposals Mesitornis variegatus, Mesitornis unicolor and Hapalopsittaca amazonina. I've no objection if you want to delete it, if this is not problematic respect to the VI proposal. Best regards, Totodu74 (talk) 20:07, 24 February 2012 (UTC)
Hmm. I know almost nothing about VIs, except that I like most of them that I see. If I understand you correctly, the scope of a VI is defined by a gallery. Forgive me, but it seems silly to say, as we apparently do at Commons:Valued image candidates/SpilornisRufipectusGould.jpg, that the image is the most valuable image we have in a scope that contains only that image. That's a lot like saying that you are the most valuable editor among all people on Commons with the username Totodu74 -- true, but not very meaningful.
It seems to me, therefore, that if an image cannot become a VI unless it has a gallery, and there is only one image that would fit the gallery, then we should enforce the no-single-image-gallery rule. This may prevent an image from becoming a VI in a scope of one, but that is as it should be, I think.
Rather than delete them now, I'll give you a while to discuss it further with the VI people -- the question has probably come up before.      Jim . . . . Jameslwoodward (talk to me) 23:19, 24 February 2012 (UTC)
There are some uses for single image galleries, see Commons_talk:Criteria_for_speedy_deletion/Archive/2011#GA1._Empty_gallery.. —innotata 23:30, 24 February 2012 (UTC)
That was an interesting discussion, but ultimately none of it was adopted as policy. At the moment, an empty or single image gallery is a {{Speedy}}, see Commons:Galleries#When_to_create_a_gallery. It is the first entry in the delete reason dropdowns when the namespace is zero (i.e. a gallery).
     Jim . . . . Jameslwoodward (talk to me) 14:19, 25 February 2012 (UTC)
I believe that being the only picture to illustrate a species give a real value to it. I asked his advice to Slaunger, I've no one. Totodu74 (talk) 22:22, 25 February 2012 (UTC)
James, Sites like the Encyclopedia of Life still rely on galleries, and they are as useful for navigation as any. I don't think existing rules should trump these sensible considerations. If you really think rules are this important, I'll propose they get changed. —innotata 19:05, 10 March 2012 (UTC)

Autopatrol given

Hello. I just wanted to let you know that I have granted autopatrol rights to your account; the reason for this is that I believe you are sufficiently trustworthy and experienced to have your contributions automatically marked as "reviewed". This has no effect on your editing, it is simply intended to make it easier for users that are monitoring Recent changes or Recent uploads to find unproductive edits amidst the productive ones like yours. In addition, the Flickr upload feature and an increased number of batch-uploads in UploadWizard, uploading of freely licensed MP3 files, overwriting files uploaded by others and an increased limit for page renames per minute are now available to you. Thank you. Trijnstel (talk) 20:26, 24 February 2012 (UTC)

Thanks! Totodu74 (talk) 20:42, 24 February 2012 (UTC)

Vous disposez maintenant du statut de filemover

Welcome, Dear Filemover!

Hi Totodu74/Archive 4, you're now a filemover. When moving files please respect the following advice:

  • Use the CommonsDelinker link in the {{Rename}} template to order a bot to replace all ocurrences of the old title with the new one.
  • Please do not tag redirects as {{Speedy}}. Other projects, like InstantCommons, might be using the file even though they don't show up in the global usage. Deleting the redirects would break their file references.
  • Please know and follow the file rename guidelines.
