File:Venny.jpg has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.
The file you added has been deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you believe that the deletion was not in accordance with policy, you may request undeletion. (It is not necessary to request undeletion if using VRT; the file will be automatically restored at the conclusion of the process.) Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

I've done it. Now change it back. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Thursby16 (talk • contribs) 17:40, 21 March 2016 (UTC)
- You've stated that you are the author and copyright holder of the painting. That seems unlikely. Who is the real author of the painting, when did the author die (assuming they are not still alive), and when was the painting first made public? —LX (talk, contribs) 17:50, 21 March 2016 (UTC)
Hey i'm unsure how to edit it so could i just tell you the details and you edit it? Or do i have to do it myself? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Thursby16 (talk • contribs) 17:56, 21 March 2016 (UTC)
Ok so i am unsure how to edit this so i'll just tell you in hope you know how to do it.
The artist was called Thomas Allom and he was born in 1804 and died in 1872. He painted this image in 1846. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Thursby16 (talk • contribs) 17:58, 21 March 2016 (UTC)
- Okay, thanks! A quick Google search and a look at en:Thomas Allom seems to confirm that. I've corrected the file description.

An unfree Flickr license was found on File:Fred sirieix.jpg[edit]
Ww2censor (talk) 22:35, 15 September 2017 (UTC)
You recently removed the image I uploaded of Fred Sirieix. I wasn't 100% sure if i would've been able to upload it properly. But in my defence, I did a Google image search and in 'tools' i selected "Labled for reuse". I thought i was right in assuming i was allowed to upload that image to commons without it getting deleted? Here's the link to the search >>> https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=fred+sirieix&tbm=isch&source=lnt&tbs=sur:fc&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjc-pXio6jWAhUrLMAKHQAnA4wQpwUIHw&biw=1366&bih=662&dpr=1
The image also has that black figure (BY) in a circle rights thing meaning it can be used https://www.flickr.com/photos/25383706@N00/16107286134
Thanks.. Thursby16 (talk) 22:54, 15 September 2017 (UTC)Thursby16 (talk) 22:57, 15 September 2017 (UTC)
- (Edit conflict): Per my edit notice, I try to keep all of a discussion in one place. You are correct that the Flickr image has a BY on the image but if you hover the mouse over the symbols and/or the text, you will see the letters ND, so we can't use that. Some other images have NC. These are in addition to the BY letters.
- Unfortunately, "labled for reuse" by a Google image search does not mean an image is actually freely licensed enough for us as we are rather strict on copyright and no not accept non-commercial NC or non-derivative ND restrictions, so while people may reuse such images they are not acceptably free enough for the commons. BTW, it will be an admin who will delete the image not me. You can search Flickr by starting at these two pages which have image licenses we accept: https://www.flickr.com/creativecommons/by-2.0/ and https://www.flickr.com/creativecommons/by-sa-2.0/ Be aware that even on Flickr uploaders can give an image any license they like even when such an image has been stolen from elsewhere and is under copyright, such as photos of magazine pages or copies from a website. Just ask again if you need clarification. Hope that helps. Ww2censor (talk) 23:16, 15 September 2017 (UTC)
- In the talkback you dropped on my talk page you put "Thursby 16" instead of "Thursby16". It makes a big difference as the wrong one is redlink to nowhere but I remembered seeing as you replied so quickly. Ww2censor (talk) 23:20, 15 September 2017 (UTC)
- Hovering my cursor over the little icons does nothing :') must be my laptop haha.. Thanks though! Thursby16 (talk) 23:21, 15 September 2017 (UTC)
- Maybe! but your browser may not show the links view at the bottom of the browser page as many browser do if it is just not turned on. You can always click on the link itself and open the license page directly instead. Ww2censor (talk) 00:00, 16 September 2017 (UTC)
