RfBs

I intentionally lumped them in with the RfAs, so could you re-add them please? Perhaps a more flexible name is needed. Thanks, –Juliancolton | Talk 17:36, 15 December 2009 (UTC)

Hmm, I don't know. I'm not against categorization of them at all, I just think that "adminship requests" isn't appropriate when it's about Checkuser/Oversighters/Bureaucrats and not about admins. It's simply not an accurate information. I probably wouldn't mind them being in there, but I just don't think that this is accurate. --The Evil IP address (talk) 19:14, 15 December 2009 (UTC)
Meh, I don't think many people will care about whether or not it's perfectly "accurate", but I guess we could make separate categories for RfBs, RFCUs, and RFOs. Thoughts? –Juliancolton | Talk 20:09, 15 December 2009 (UTC)
Sure, sounds like a good idea. --The Evil IP address (talk) 16:06, 16 December 2009 (UTC)

Hallo, The Evil IP address, könntest du dich um genanntes Foto kümmern, bitte?

--The Evil IP address (talk) 19:37, 17 December 2009 (UTC)

Rollback Angebot

Hello, I noticed some good reverts by you. Would you be interested in having rollback? It's quite useful for vandalism work, even if you don't do this stuff all day. Let me know. --The Evil IP address (talk) 09:58, 12 December 2009 (UTC)

Hi The Evil IP address,
as you deleted the talkpages of some of my uploads with the rationale "off topic", just for you to know why I created these talkpages with 1 dot: in the description of these images I advise re-users "If you use this image outside of Wikimedia projects, please leave a note on the talk page (of the image!). Thank you." IMHO an unexperienced re-user from outside will more likely leave a comment on an existing talkpage, than create one by him/herself. Regards. --Túrelio (talk) 07:24, 21 December 2009 (UTC)

I can understand that and would be fine with a restoration, but would be happy if there could be something better than just a simple dot, for example: "Leave your note here. --~~~~ or something like that. --The Evil IP address (talk) 13:50, 21 December 2009 (UTC)

Ajax template translation

I noticed you comment at MediaWiki talk:Common.js#Ajax translation of templates. I haven't been very active on Commons in the last month or so, and had basically forgotten about the script until ערן reminded me about it on my talk page. So, would you like to be the one to re-enable the script, or shall I? I don't know how much time I'll have over the holidays to handle any urgent reports of "OMG EVERYTHING'S BROKEN FIX IT NOW!!!", so if you'd like to step up and take responsibility for the deployment, I'd be glad to hand it over to you. Then again, I could just enable it myself and deal with any issues as I get around to it (or let others do so), but it's always nice with changes like this if there's someone around who can explain to people how the new feature is supposed to work and fix it if it doesn't. —Ilmari Karonen (talk) 01:27, 23 December 2009 (UTC)

I'm willing to give it a go. --The Evil IP address (talk) 12:26, 23 December 2009 (UTC)

Bug

For me too... I don't understand why that happened. And, as my bot is crazy today, it's better stop her. I will look the code (again) to fix it. Thanks a lot for avoid me! Béria Lima Msg 14:46, 1 January 2010 (UTC)

Thanks!

Thanks for cleaning up [1]. I didn't even think to do that. It makes sense though.

Also, {{UnknownHeader}} doesn't seem to be adding the speedy deletion tag when categories are empty, because we don't use the date parameters anymore. DumbBOT just creates the dates with something like [[Category:X| 20100104]] so the categories are sorted in their main categories that way. Maybe the {{speedy}} code could be modified to be independent of the date parameters? The date parameter stuff could even be taken out. I'm just not smart enough to know what's going on there.

Thanks for all your help and all the work you do. Commons definitely has a need for all your work here! Killiondude (talk) 23:55, 4 January 2010 (UTC)

No problem, I'm happy to help out. I must admit that I also noted good work by you. I like the visual separation of the MediaWiki:Category-empty message from the description and the category content, quite helpful for navigation. Concerning {{UnknownHeader}}: Docu added this code to avoid that future dates get {{Speedy}}ed as an empty category. I'm not sure about that code, so it's probably better to ask him (the same code is also in use in {{BotMoveToCommonsHeader}}). --The Evil IP address (talk) 00:14, 5 January 2010 (UTC)
I like the separation in the empty category notice too, I think it will make it easier for people to see that notice. Oh, okay. I'll ask Docu. I honestly didn't notice that edit yesterday when I was looking at it. Thanks. Killiondude (talk) 00:22, 5 January 2010 (UTC)

Evil Implementations

You have erased many of my photos signed as Producer. I have uploaded them with enough consultation with Tarawneh a couple of years ago under the title "Arabic Drama Series" signed under my real name Nasib Bitar. Tarawneh also is an administrator like yourself. If these files do not reappear, please erase every single file I have uploaded to commons. I am the executive producer of these series, I own the rights for them and I have to sign the permission you are asking for. So if you do not believe me here how will you believe me elsewhere. Either check with Tarawneh, or if your pride does not allow it I ask you again please erase every sing file I have uploaded.--Producer (talk) 03:19, 11 January 2010 (UTC)

The problem is the following: The photos you've uploaded are from a copyrighted TV series. These pictures are usually not available under the reuse criteria of the Wikimedia Commons that every file can be used by anyone, anytime, for any purpose. For these reasons, we want to have a clear permission that they're indeed reusable under this criteria. I recognize that you said you're the producer of these series, but there's a reason why we aren't able to simply trust these words: This is the Internet, a place where everyone can claim to be everyone. If I wanted I could create an account called "George Lucas" and then say "All Star Wars movies are now public domain!", which is however wrong (they're copyrighted). The problem is that we can't verify your identity here at Commons; the only information we have about you is your username. That's why a process has been created, the OTRS (Open-source Ticket Request System), which is able to verify a user's identity. The procedure with the OTRS looks as follows: You send them an e-mail in which you identify yourself, tell about the images that you uploaded and explaining that you agree to license them under a free license. Once they've verified this, you'll get a ticket that everyone can review and I can then restore the images for you. This process has already worked quite a lot times. As of now, I however can't do this, as Commons can't be sure that the images are licensed under a free license that allows the reuse by anyone, anytime, for any purpose. Concerning your contact with Tarawneh: AFAIK, a permission which has been verified by an admin who isn't OTRS volunteer isn't sufficient, but I might be wrong. --The Evil IP address (talk) 13:25, 11 January 2010 (UTC)

Template question

Hi Evil ;)

If you have a moment, would you check if there are any technical issues with the suggested code at Template_talk:Information#Code_for_maintenance_category? I'm confident about it, but as it's a highly used template, people are obviously a bit nervous about any edit on the template. -- User:Docu at 11:07, 13 January 2010 (UTC)

The source looks fine to me. However, it would be good if you could describe what exactly you want to do with the maintenance category, as hacks shouldn't be made without recognizable advantage. --The Evil IP address (talk) 14:08, 13 January 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for reviewing it. I will add a couple of samples. Obviously we could also remove the code after a couple of weeks if it isn't being used. -- User:Docu at 07:05, 14 January 2010 (UTC)

Hi. I have replied at the subject discussion. Sorry for the delay.   — Jeff G. (talk|contribs) 07:59, 15 January 2010 (UTC)

Hi again. Have you a chance to review the replies there? Thanks!   — Jeff G. ツ 04:58, 5 May 2010 (UTC)

Hi The Evil IP address. At Commons:Freedom of panorama, I noticed that Future Perfect at Sunrise (talk · contribs) edited the text of Commons:FOP#Former Soviet Union, entirely changing the meaning of the section. Is this change even warranted? Many Wikimedia projects use COM:FOP when determining the copyright status of files so I think this might be a serious problem if the change does not accurately reflect the freedom of panorama laws in place in the former USSR. If it's not too much trouble, it'd be great if you could look into it. Thanks, FASTILY (TALK) 01:01, 21 January 2010 (UTC)

There should be indeed some information where this comes from. You should ask on their talk page what's the source for this information, and if the information isn't sufficient, it should be reverted. --The Evil IP address (talk) 07:29, 21 January 2010 (UTC)
Well, I would, but I'm having a dispute with this user on en.wikipedia where they have been rather rudely asserting this fact. I was hoping to get a third opinion. Regards, FASTILY (TALK) 01:18, 22 January 2010 (UTC)
Ah, now I get it. I was confused yesterday as I didn't get the change, but now it makes sense. The change can stay, though I'm not sure we need it. I've commented over at the FFD page. --The Evil IP address (talk) 15:59, 22 January 2010 (UTC)
Mmmm....alright. Just wanted to be sure. Thanks for your time. Regards, FASTILY (TALK) 23:54, 22 January 2010 (UTC)

POTD format

We seem to be the only ones discussing the POTD format, so I guess I'll do it directly with you. You complained you had to click all the links to read the captions. Didn't a caption in your own language come up under the picture itself? Are you saying you want to read the caption in every other language for every image? What is that useful for... are you trying to translate them? --99of9 (talk) 23:58, 21 January 2010 (UTC)

I find it quite convinient to see other languages, be it for comparision, translation or simply because I find it interesting. I see your point and must admit that it's indeed quite annoying to have to scroll that much, but it also has to be noted that not everybody visits their localized Potd page (either because it doesn't exist or because they don't find it). We should probably get some stats on how often (and when) the current languages exist. Then, I could imagine removing some languages and/or hiding rarely used languages, for example like this:
  1. English: English caption
  2. Français : French caption
Other languages
  1. Deutsch: German caption
Of course, not literally like that (that would be too sloppy), but with the same principle. That wouldn't make the page getting that long, but still quite handy for interested readers and translators, if they want to see the captions. What do you think? --The Evil IP address (talk) 16:20, 22 January 2010 (UTC)
I'd be happy with hiding languages, as long as it was nearly all of them. I just really hate the long lists of redlinks. In fact, I'm ok with what you call sloppy, because it looks way less sloppy than the current page! --99of9 (talk) 05:54, 4 February 2010 (UTC)
Nice to hear your support. I've created a possible draft at User:The Evil IP address/potd. By defaut, the languages with the most translations and the language of the page are shown. A thing that I considered was to also show similar languages of one language (for example Swiss German on German pages and Catalan on Spanish pages), but I'm not sure if this is needed. --The Evil IP address (talk) 16:11, 7 February 2010 (UTC)

Zolnierska_2009.jpg

Hello there. i noticed you deleted file Zolnierska_2009.jpg. I understand you found some reason to do that but:

- user who uploaded this file is an employee of Kutno (city) authorities. He is working for city in promotion department

- all copy right belongs to authorities, and in fact they realy want to publish this file,

- i believe they are completly new on Wikipedia and simple dont know how to work with encyclopedia, publish it with proper description.

can i count on you to help them ? contact me: bm@netstar.pl, contant person who works in Kutno-authorities: MICHAL ADAMSKI rzecznik@um.kutno.pl, and Authorities website: www.um.kutno.pl.

We also work on PL-wikipedia: PL wiki - thats me, and Maciejk84 for uploader, but it is possible he dont know how to use this webside ;)

Best Regards Bogdan Malinowski

Hello, I've deleted your file because you published it under "All Rights Reserved". This means that no one may do anything with the file unless the copyright holder gives you permission for this. The Wikimedia Commons only accepts files that can be used by anyone for any purpose without prior permission. This includes commercial use and manipulating your image. You may publish your image under such a license, for example under one of the many Creative Commons licenses. Furthermore, in your case it would be good if you could verify your identity via OTRS. This is to make sure that you're in fact from Kutno's authorities and not someone who claims to be from there. If you're fine with using a free license for your image, then you may reupload it. --The Evil IP address (talk) 16:06, 12 February 2010 (UTC)
thanks v. much, i send yours information to author. BM
could you plase check it now: "Kutno Wschodnia Complex 2009.jpg" ?
You haven't added any license to it. You must decide under which license reusers can use your file, otherwise it will be deleted, because we can't be sure that you agree to publish the file under a free license. --The Evil IP address (talk) 10:44, 15 February 2010 (UTC)

Hi Evil

--Kam Solusar (talk) 17:05, 16 February 2010 (UTC)

New legal complaints

I was about to tell you that it's just a coincidence that I started my thread at almost the same time of the FBI letter, and I did skim the thread, but I'm not sure which came first. I think, perhaps that reading that thread gave me inspiration for what I'm doing but perhaps it's just time for change. I assure you that I am not part of any organized effort to reform Commons. My credentials as being pro-porn, as long as it's between consenting adults, is well documented on the English Wikipedia. See w:Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Heather_Harmon_(2nd_nomination). - Stillwaterising (talk) 22:00, 14 April 2010 (UTC)

Also, my sudden interest in looking into Common's sex-related content came out a discussion at w:Talk:Anal sex#Proposal To Change Main Photo for Anal Sex about what pictures to use for the lead, not from hearing about the letter. I was pretty shocked to at what I found as a result of looking for educational images of anal sex. - Stillwaterising (talk) 22:12, 14 April 2010 (UTC)

Ok, then I'm sorry. I mean, to some degree I second your delete opinion, so I don't think that it was a bad deletion request that you started. --The Evil IP address (talk) 13:49, 15 April 2010 (UTC)
It's my first deletion request and I did not stick to policy-only reasons. I find it hard to comprehend that there's that many users who are willing to completely ignore guidelines and make such defenses. - Stillwaterising (talk) 19:35, 15 April 2010 (UTC)
I'm not sure which guidelines you're talking about, but it might be that the keep arguments are just making more sense to the people. --The Evil IP address (talk) 20:07, 15 April 2010 (UTC)
