Speedy delete qn[edit]

Hi Stifle,

I noticed that you added Speedy deletion tags to File:Garud Officer.jpg and File:Garud NCO.jpg. I had uploaded the Garud NCO image but asked for a speedy deletion since the person who owns the website that hosts it mentioned that he does not hold the copyright to that image. I have since obtained license to use that image from the original copyright holder. This has been communicated through a mail sent to OTRS.

I was wondering why you had added the speedy tag to these two images... is there any specific reason for it, or any other action that I can take to solve the problem??

Thanks a ton Sniperz11 (talk) 05:41, 22 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I am the same person who is dealing with you on OTRS and have replied to your email. Stifle (talk) 10:19, 22 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Checking on this OTRS[edit]

Hi Stifle. I wish to confirm if this OTRS https://secure.wikimedia.org/otrs/index.pl?Action=AgentTicketZoom&TicketID=1360068 is supposed to be for such a large range of images. On Wikipedia, and on Commons.

After some digging, I am rightly worried that some of the uploads might be copyvios. Refer to Commons:Deletion_requests/Series by Nyo and Commons:Deletion requests/Series by Nyo II, where the uploader expressed worry that his uploads could have been copyvios. I would like to point out that the OTRS covers several pictures in Category:Laozi, which are copyvios from the book The Lao Zi in the Eye of a Painter] (File:Laozi reading.PNG, File:Laozi meditating.PNG are just two examples). I am proceeding to tag the obviosu copyvios in this category, but worry over those attributed to Lavelk from photobucket and uploaded by User:Nyo. Jappalang (talk) 13:42, 22 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Note: there is some consternation that User:Nyo is Lavelk at Commons:Deletion requests/China images. Jappalang (talk) 14:11, 22 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

OTRS:1360068 says that everything at http://s94.photobucket.com/albums/l98/Lavelk/ is released under CC-BY-2.0. However, there is nothing either in that ticket about where he got the images or whether he has the capacity to release them under that license. There's an AN/A thread from earlier this month that may provide further help. I've got nothing else for you on it though. Stifle (talk) 16:01, 22 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Please help[edit]

Hi Stifle, if you have a time please vote to delete hate propaganda images listed below. Thank you.--Mbz1 (talk) 00:51, 25 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the Christmas review![edit]

Hi Stifle/Archive 1. I would like to thank you for the interest you have shown in my request for adminship, and for the time you have taken to review my profile. As a Christmas present I've just been given the admin tools, for which I'm thankful as well. I have understood all the remarks that have been made during the review period. I will take them into account and begin using the tools with much care, until I gain more experience and self-confidence. Thanks again, and Merry Christmas! --Eusebius (talk) 15:12, 25 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

File:TomCruise08Toronto.jpg‎[edit]

Thanks for adding the OTRS ticket. I was wondering if you could check OTRS and see if it received the ten e-mails I sent a couple days ago with more permission for a lot of images. I had sent them before, but I guess they didn't go through (probably because I sent so many). Some of the e-mails have permission for 10 images, others only 5. I just want to see if they are there since the Tom Cruise one went through okay. If they are there I'm assuming nobody wants to do them since there are so many. If you could just take a look, I'd appreciate it. --Nehrams2020 (talk) 01:14, 8 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The system says you were sent a reply at 12:32 on Monday. Did you get it? Stifle (talk) 09:55, 8 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Note to self: OTRS:2324069 refers. Stifle (talk) 09:55, 8 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I got a reply for one of the e-mails, but not all of them. I was just curious if it had received all of the e-mails or just that one. Thanks for adding the permissions though, I appreciate it. --Nehrams2020 (talk) 20:08, 8 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Adding Image Source to my photos[edit]

Hi Stifle,

Thanks for the compliments on my photos! I've been working on a new website which will include a page containing all the photos I've contributed to Wikipedia/Commons. This page will be specificaly for reasons you mentioned. My current website is relatively old and difficult for me to add anything to. I have a temporary page for this purpose at:

http://imageevent.com/glennfrancis/releasedimages

I just haven't been doing it because I don't want to have to go back to every photo and and change the source once my new website is up, but until then, I'll source to this page.

Thanks!.... Glenn

Toglenn (talk) 08:04, 13 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

That's great. If you add a notice on your site stating that the images there are released under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license (or your choice of free license), then you won't need to send in emails to permissions-commons any more. Alternatively if you wish to still send in those emails, make sure that the address you send them from appears on that website. Stifle (talk) 10:46, 13 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Stifle, the image is used at the website http://www.copticmedical.com/Meetingss.htm, http://www.copticmedical.com/photogallery/Magdy%20Ishak%2011.jpg is the same image. Is the OTRS ticket related to the coptic medical society in any way? --Martin H. (talk) 19:07, 18 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

No, the email seems to be from Dr. Ishak himself. Since there's no source on the image, I wasn't in a position to check the matter with the original website and it seemed plausible. I will investigate this further with the Coptic Medical Society. Stifle (talk) 20:22, 18 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hi again and thanks for your answer, if the image is from Mr. Ishak himself we can asume that he have the full rights on this image even though he is not the photographer. So everything is ok, thx, --Martin H. (talk) 20:25, 18 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Stifle! I sent the author's permission for the above image and another one on the 16th for the first time and yesterday for the second time to the attention both of User:Kameraad Pjotr and 'Joe Daly' (I don't know his user name, I just corresponded with him over the e-mail a few times). I haven't received a response yet. Is it received somehow or should I send the permission again? Regards. Cretanforever

There is a backlog on the permissions queue at the moment, which is principally because there are only a few users actively dealing with it (including me). On top of that, I've had computer problems lately. Do you have a ticket number? (They appear in the subject of any replies you get back from the permissions email.) Stifle (talk) 22:13, 22 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I haven't got a response to date. I am e-mailing to the permissions again, mentioning it "to your attention" in the header. Regards. Cretanforever 23 January 2009
Hi again Stifle! Could you take a look at Ticket:2009012310005148? I am unable to confirm that this is the ticket number. Bad correspondense. But I would appreaciate if you could take a look at it. Cretanforever (talk) 25 January 2009
I've had a look at that ticket and it doesn't contain anything to say that the image is released under Creative Commons, only that we have permission to use the image. That's not sufficient for Wikimedia Commons; the copyright holder needs to send in an explicit release specifically saying that it is released under the relevant license. Stifle (talk) 17:00, 25 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I re-contacted the copyright holder and received a clear statement in English permitting use of his images. I am sending another e-mail to permissions and referencing it under Ticket#2009012310005148 although I am not at all certain that it's the right one. I hope it will be answered either by you or someone with a clear profile and a user name, rather than a John Doe.
Could you please also check http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:KaptanJune2.jpg. I had started the article for en:June Haimoff both in Turkish and English wikis but the images comes from elsewhere and it's a file transfered from Turkish wikipedia, initially uploaded there in times immemorial and tagged in Commons under GFDL, which doesn't explain much on its suitability for use conditions. Cretanforever (talk)
Have you any idea what the file's name was on trwiki? Stifle (talk) 18:32, 27 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Permissions[edit]

i've been through the long permission process again. successfully. see File:Marsheauxpermission.JPG. you can message them there [1] too. --CuteHappyBrute (talk) 13:01, 27 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

What language is that? Stifle (talk) 13:46, 27 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Greek. i forwarded it to Joe Daly from Permissions. --CuteHappyBrute (talk) 00:55, 28 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This image[edit]

Marmaduke uploaded this image and is very inexperienced and really New with uploading flickr images...but I told him to get the flickr owner to license it as 'cc by sa 2.0" to pass flickr review. (instead of cc by nc sa) The flickr owner has now done this for this particular image. Maybe you can consider submitting it for a new flickr review. If not, pls. contact Marmaduke directly:

You likely need to contact Marmaduke on these other images here on the OTRS ticket and maybe give him some tips on how an OTRS should be worded rather than this really long and vague stmt. How about 'I, Timothy J Valentine, agree to license picture X, Y, Z on a Creative Commons Sharealike 3.0 license" That is short and simple:

Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 01:08, 31 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

To avoid further confusion, the Flickr owner has now licensed all his Hingham photos as 'cc by sa 2.0' so as to pass Flickr review. A check of the photos at Flickr will confirm this. Thank you. MarmadukePercy (talk) 15:16, 1 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

File:HinghamBellTower.jpeg , FirstMeetingHouse.jpg , OldBuryingGroundHingham.jpg[edit]

Hello, sorry for the confusion. I have just sent you permissions for these images from their creator, Timothy J. Valentine, with whom I work on an on-going basis to place his photographs on Massachusetts-related articles. Thank you! MarmadukePercy (talk) 20:48, 31 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Does Ticket:2009013010014964 apply to all images of Timothy Valentine already uploaded? Because the earlier uploads like File:HinghamBellTower1.jpg, File:HinghamBellTower.jpeg, etc. are still CC-BY-NC-SA at Flickr... Lupo 22:16, 31 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Nope, that ticket's good for File:SamuelLincolnHouseSign.jpg, File:SamuelLincolnHouse1.jpg, and File:SamuelLincolnHouse.jpg only, and they're all tagged with valid licenses in flickr anyway. Stifle (talk) 22:41, 31 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
As I say, I forwarded the additional permissions today to Commons. That is for the images HinghamBellTower, FirstMeetingHouse and OldBuryingGround. Each permission is in a separate email from its creator. Thanks.MarmadukePercy (talk) 23:05, 31 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Tim Valentine (the creator of all these lovely images), some of which he has photographed at my suggestion (this is a collaborative effort), has now changed all the licenses at Flickr to permit sharing, so I assume this will pass muster. MarmadukePercy (talk) 04:39, 1 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
You will need to put a link to the flickr image on each of the image pages here at Commons, then add the template {{Flickrreview}}. Stifle (talk) 16:11, 1 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Should I affix that template even to images from the same photographer that have already been cleared by OTRS? (Some images the photographer took at my request and emailed to me, along with permission. He subsequently posted some of those to his Flickr page.) Thanks.MarmadukePercy (talk) 21:01, 1 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
No, anything cleared by OTRS doesn't need any more work. Stifle (talk) 19:51, 2 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Fortunately we have it figured out now how to coordinate between Flickr and Commons. I apologize for the confusion. MarmadukePercy (talk) 19:55, 2 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

explanation[edit]

i have already sent the email containing permission to publish this picture! and approval came to me too, anyway i will send it again, permission is granted at the begining of the email. User:BassemBassem (talk) 16:43, 5 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Can you let me have the 16-digit ticket number that you would have got in that reply? Stifle (talk) 11:57, 6 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
sure, this is it: 2008122110015756 Bassem Bassem (talk) 14:02, 6 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
This email contains only permission to use on Wikipedia, which is not sufficient for Wikimedia Commons. You will need to get the copyright holder to send in a specific release under a free license, as explained at the bottom of the email you got in reply. Stifle (talk) 15:14, 6 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Your Flickr reviewer request[edit]

Hello. As a result of your request at Commons talk:Flickr images/reviewers, I have added you to the reviewers list. Please see the instructions at Commons:Flickr images/reviewers and add {{User trusted}} to your userpage. Best regards, howcheng {chat} 18:43, 10 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

OTRS[edit]

Hi Stifle,
could you eventually check what's going on with File:Cirque jaffar.jpeg. It's marked as "no permission" since Jan 24, whereas an OTRS "ticket #2009012410006243" is mentioned here. Thanks. --Túrelio (talk) 09:24, 18 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

That ticket is an email which an OTRS user sent out to the source site requesting a free license; it was sent nearly four weeks ago and there has not been any reply. Stifle (talk) 11:26, 18 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

RE: File:AA elotroyo.jpg[edit]

Hi Stifle. You are 100% right. My mistake. I have already send a e-mail to the author and mark the file for destruction. Thank you very much, Lucien (es·m·com) 22:11, 17 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading this image. Since it's based on en:File:Aliasing-plot.png, a GFDL image, it can only be released under the GFDL, and the disclaimers on it must be preserved. I have removed the CC-BY-SA tag accordingly. Stifle (talk) 11:22, 23 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, thanks. I was unsure whether it would be a derived work of the PNG version... since I didn't actually *use* the PNG at all in creating it. I just looked at the PNG and then made a similar-looking graph. Does that still count? Moxfyre (talk) 13:37, 23 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Probably; same way as if you looked at a Disney movie and made a drawing of Mickey Mouse. Stifle (talk) 18:13, 23 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Tomlinson image[edit]

Hi Stifle, I have a query about your post here. [2] I've been dealing with this image, and I haven't discussed it with OTRS yet as I'm waiting for clarification from the copyright owner. Did you get it mixed up with something else? This really shouldn't have been upload to the Commons. I believe it is PD or cc-by, but the copyright holder hasn't confirmed that. Best to respond to me on the English WP, btw. SlimVirgin (talk) 17:28, 24 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
