File tagging File:StudentsAgainstStrikeArt.jpg[edit]
This media was probably deleted.
|
Thanks for uploading File:StudentsAgainstStrikeArt.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.
Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own). The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded ([[:File:StudentsAgainstStrikeArt.jpg]] ) and the above demanded information in your request. |

File:PublicFootageOf2018YorkStrike.png has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.
The file you added has been deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you believe that the deletion was not in accordance with policy, you may request undeletion. (It is not necessary to request undeletion if using VRT; the file will be automatically restored at the conclusion of the process.)

File:SocialistFightbackArt.png has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.
If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues. |

Copyright violations[edit]
Hello SprayCanToothpick.
You have uploaded one or more files that are copyright violations. You have done so despite requests from editors not to do so, and despite their instructions. See Commons:Licensing for the copyright policy on Wikimedia Commons. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules by subject matter useful. This is your last warning. The next time you upload a file that violates copyright, you will be blocked. Please leave me a message if you have further questions. |

- Hey you may have seen this message before on the images in question, but I'll discuss it again here as you left a warning on my wall inviting me to message you: "Please leave me a message if you have further questions."
- Assuming you've seen my responses, you are aware that these are logos from student clubs at my university. I need them uploaded for a wiki article pertaining to that, and if you could help me assign the right copyright tags to them that would be great! Less stress for both of us, so we should work together through this issue. What tags would you recommend I use for each of the images? I've seen many images on the wiki that are far more copyright than a few non-corporate school logos, so this shouldn't be too difficult to solve. I hope you can help me out, thanks!SprayCanToothpick (talk) 22:51, 15 July 2018 (UTC)
- You seem to be under the mistaken impression that anything may be uploaded to Commons and that the only issue is the copyright tag you chose. That's not the case. Please read Commons:Project scope/Summary#Must be freely licensed or public domain to understand what you can and cannot upload to Commons. —LX (talk, contribs) 08:13, 16 July 2018 (UTC)
- I read through it and the images I wish to upload seem to be applicable. Why are images of logos on commons such here or here not under the same scrutiny? What criteria did they meet that I didn't? Should I not follow the format or copyright procedure that they did? Thanks SprayCanToothpick (talk) 19:48, 16 July 2018 (UTC)
- Those logos actually conform to the language of {{PD-textlogo}}; they consist of text and simple geometric shapes. A hand holding a flag waving in the wind is not a simple geometric shape. —LX (talk, contribs) 20:04, 16 July 2018 (UTC)
- Thanks, that information is actually really helpful in understanding the situation. Would this image be in violation as it is not a simple geometric shape as well? I imagine it's against the rules as the uploader clearly doesn't own that image, has no permission, and it's not simple geometry.SprayCanToothpick (talk) 20:35, 16 July 2018 (UTC)
- There will always be borderline cases when it comes to threshold of originality. File:Rebel Alliance logo.svg was brought up for discussion for this exact reason, but it was kept. —LX (talk, contribs) 20:58, 16 July 2018 (UTC)
- (reset indent), LX, I have been hard at work trying to contact the various copyright holders (club heads at university) for a OTRS Declaration of consent for all enquiries. If they release it will this file be allowed to stay? And also what link or info will I have to share in the permissions section of the file? Thanks SprayCanToothpick (talk) 20:59, 19 July 2018 (UTC)
