Creating categories[edit]

Hello, Slimguy. Thanks for all the categories you've created here. You probably didn't know, but when you create a category where the entries are grouped in a certain way, such as Category:Lygaeidae by country, that's called a "metacategory". You can read about them at Commons:Naming categories#Categories by CRITERION. Metacategories should include a {{MetaCat}} template, as explained at that section. When you create these categories, please include the {{MetaCat}} template. Thanks, and feel free to ask if you have any questions about these. --Auntof6 (talk) 23:22, 6 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for all your work on these categories- but there's no reason for them to be out of alphabetical order, which you did by adding the sortkey "| Nature". If you leave this out, the category will sort in its parent council area under "N" anyway. Cheers. Rodhullandemu (talk) 18:34, 10 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Template:Countries of Africa[edit]

I have undone this change that you made to this template because it broke the functionality. The way the template was before, both sections would find a result whether the relevant Seychelles category name referred to "the Seychelles" or just "Seychelles". With your change, the first section would find it only if the category name has the word the, and the second section would find it only if the category name did not have the word the. The template was written the way it was to work with differently-named categories such as Category:Nature of the Seychelles (contains the) and Category:History of Seychelles (does not contain the). Feel free to ask if you'd like more explanation of this. --Auntof6 (talk) 23:25, 13 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks[edit]

Congratulations for your work on the category. --Archaeodontosaurus (talk) 05:24, 15 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Getting categories deleted[edit]

Hello, Slimguy. I noticed that you're trying to get some categories deleted because they have the wrong names. Some of them have ended up in Category:Incomplete deletion requests - missing subpage. You used the {{Delete}} template, but when you use that there also needs to be a discussion page, which you didn't create.

However, I think a better template to use for these is {{Bad name}}. It takes one argument, the name of the correctly spelled category. Admins will see categories tagged with this template and delete them without discussion, usually pretty quickly. Please use {{Bad name}} when the reason for deleting a category is that it has been replaced by a correctly named one. Thanks! --Auntof6 (talk) 08:25, 20 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Counties in states in the United States[edit]

Just wanted to personally thank you for creating the navigation templates for counties in the United States. I know that was a lot of work. Creating one for Georgia has been on my "to do" list for a long time. --Mjrmtg (talk) 10:48, 9 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

People of Baltimora and other...[edit]

The intentions are good but you're doing it wrong :-) you might as well use {{People of the United States by city}} and not using the nav template for counties in the categories of cities -- SERGIO (aka the Blackcat) 15:50, 18 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Also, this is wrong. Categories must be moved to keep their history. -- SERGIO (aka the Blackcat) 16:02, 18 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Also, this is non sense. You'd place a {{Cat see also}} when you need to clarify between two or more similar items (i.e. People of Rome, People of Rome, Queensland, and so on); is not get-out-of-jail card to play to indicate that there's another category for different administrative topic. You'd legitimately use it to disambiguate i.e between Georgia and Georgia (U.S. state) ... -- SERGIO (aka the Blackcat) 18:25, 18 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
May I have a signal that you've read what I wrote, please? -- SERGIO (aka the Blackcat) 10:05, 22 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Your rename request[edit]

Hi. I've declined you rename request for File:Unbek raupe duerkheim1.JPG because you're not the original uploader (criterion #1 for rename). Please use an other criterion for rename.

Since I don't like to be ignored when I ask a question, now I ask you as an admin: could you please give me a signal that you've read and understood what I wrote about the above topic? -- SERGIO (aka the Blackcat) 10:23, 3 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Listen, could you please tell me how many of such categories have you misplaced without correctly moving them and keeping their history? You're invited to reply as first thing you do as soon as you read this or this time I am going to block you fror write-only and lack of cooperation, because I've asked you several times to reply and you ignored it. You're warned. -- SERGIO (aka the Blackcat) 14:33, 31 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

--Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 01:44, 2 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

You have been blocked for a duration of one week[edit]

You have been blocked from editing Commons for a duration of one week for the following reason: ignoring requests of admins, write-only mode.

If you wish to make useful contributions, you may do so after the block expires. If you believe this block is unjustified, you may add {{unblock|(enter your reason here) ~~~~}} below this message explaining clearly why you should be unblocked. See also the block log. I don't like to hand blocks but you left me no choice. You were warned by two admins. You can edit your talk page and reply to my questions. If you're not familiar with English the admin Hedwig can help, as she wrote. -- SERGIO (aka the Blackcat) 21:26, 2 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I got hundreds of alerts and notices in the last weeks. What is here the problem? I am adding quite many information of various areas to the project. Is Wikicommons / Wikipedia not interested in my contribution? If so, I can stop my engagement.--Slimguy (talk) 16:15, 3 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Blackcat: Ping just in case you don't have this on your watchlist. --Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 07:04, 4 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
The problem is that you do not interact. When an administrator shows you a behaviour which is a potential problem you should be so kind to reply and not stay in write-only mode. Have you read what I wrote you in the above lines? Would you be so kind to reply? Do you think that I am pleased to give a block to force you to give a sign of your presence? -- SERGIO (aka the Blackcat) 11:22, 4 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hedwig, since you've been so kind so far, would you please be kind once more and explain in German to our friend Slimguy that all I want to know is:

  • relatively to this, if it's clear that he should use {{People of the United States by city}} and not {{People of the United States by county}} and compile it wholly, so to make easier future maintenance activity;
  • if it's clear that categories must be moved to keep their history. Creating a new one and trasforming the older in a soft redirect to the new one is wrong;
  • if it's clear that this is not the correct way to use {{Cat see also}} because it is generally used to disambiguate between two or more similar items (i.e. People of Rome, People of Rome, Queensland, People of Syracuse, People of Syracuse, New York, and so on);
  • how many categories People of [county / city of the United States] has he created without moving from the older People from [etc], because, apart from losing the history, the link on Wikidata items are missing and from the articles on Wikipedia is no longer possible to reach the new category (which, as a matter of fact, forced me to temporarily delete all the new categories he created, move the older ones to the new names and recovery the history and the wikidata links).

As I said, everyone can make mistakes, it's fine, but one should always have an hear to the voices that warn you that you're doing something wrong. -- SERGIO (aka the Blackcat) 15:29, 4 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Happy to oblige.
  1. Verstehst Du, dass Du {{People of the United States by city}} und nicht {{People of the United States by county}} benutzen sollst?
  3. Ist die Verwendung von {{Cat see also}} klar? Cat see also wird genutzt um zwischen verschiedenen Nutzungen des gleichen Wortes eindeutig zu Unterscheiden?
  4. Wie viele Kategorien People of [county / city of the United States] hast Du haendisch umgeleitet ohne externe Einbindungen zu berichtigen?
LG, --Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 03:31, 5 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

PLEASE ANSWER TO THE ABOVE QUESTION AND STOP IGNORING ME. -- SERGIO (aka the Blackcat) 18:40, 10 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I did not do any modifications/changes to U.S. categories for weeks or months. I do not know why I am blocked now. Regarding "Cities and Counties" - there are to my knowledge cities and towns with areas which are distributed over more than one county - so there is no strict hierarchy county-city. Regarding "People of" vs. "People from": There were already different categories there before I did these changes. I think I cannot easily revert these changes - if these are incorrect at all. Regards --Slimguy (talk) 18:42, 11 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, I lifted the block now that you clarified your position. The problem was not the mistakes you did. Everyone does mistakes (Hedwig, please, do me another little favour and translate me). The problem was ignoring repeatedly the questions and the warnings of two administrators, one of whom of your same language. When an admin addresses you and ask something you cannot simply ignore them and keep on in write only because it's a non-cooperative behaviour. Good work. -- SERGIO (aka the Blackcat) 12:50, 14 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
LG, --Hedwig in Washington (mail?)

Category discussion warning

Bherimalika has been listed at Commons:Categories for discussion so that the community can discuss ways in which it should be changed. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this category, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for discussion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it. If the category is up for deletion because it has been superseded, consider the notion that although the category may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new category.

In all cases, please do not take the category discussion personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you!

Habe morgen leider keine Zeit. Viel Spaß bei deiner Führung - hoffentlich mit vielen Interessierten!--Slimguy (talk) 18:24, 13 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Trapezonotus arenarius[edit]

In asking the question for the second bug I have the answer for the first: Trapezonotus arenarius MHNT Dos.jpg.You're right she's badly identified. I erase errors for Trapezonotus arenarius on different Wiki. The name that is proposed is Xanthochilus quadratus; Before renaming and launching the second part I would like your opinion. Regards --Archaeodontosaurus (talk) 15:47, 8 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I am not an expert. However, there are two possible species: X. minusculus and X. quadratus. The not so large black spot on the membran would suggest X. quadratus. I do not know if there are any bug experts at Wikipedia active who can help us. In the German Wikipedia there is a special page where among others animals are identified from uploaded pictures. I could add an inquiry there if you like. Nevertheless, I suggest either using X. quadratus or X. cf. quadratus.--Slimguy (talk) 16:38, 9 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
The determination was made by Bénédicte Maurouard who has just been appointed to the position of conservator in entomology of the Muséem de Toulouse. I remain very attentive to the remarks that you could make. This work is long and tedious but it shows the seriousness of our commitment. Thank you.--Archaeodontosaurus (talk) 04:58, 10 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Vielen Dank, --Thiotrix (talk) 17:01, 15 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Here on Commons, Template:Delete is not for speedy deletion, it is intended to start a discussion. Please follow through by heeding the instructions.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 14:54, 5 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

In addition, I noticed that you've made more malformed deletion requests. Please see COM:DP. When you want to delete a page by manually using the {{Delete}} template (rather than using the automatic Nominate for deletion tool in the Tools menu on the sidebar per COM:DR#Starting requests), please remember to follow the instructions in the template, including the "Click here to show further instructions" portion (or Commons:Deletion requests/Listing a request manually), otherwise you will create a lot of work for other people.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 15:34, 17 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
