Template:People of the United States by city
This template is intended as help for quickly categorizing the categories of people of the cities of the United States of America (see category People of the United States by city).
Usage[edit]

(Note: no blanks before the parametres to prevent the category from being erroneusly sorted)
Example #1: city or town with no county[edit]
For the category People of Anchorage, Alaska code is:
{{People of the United States by city|Anchorage, Alaska|Alaska}}
which is equivalent to the following code:
[[Category:Anchorage, Alaska]][[Category:People of Alaska by city|Anchorage, Alaska]][[Category:People of the United States by city|Anchorage, Alaska]]
Example #2: city or town within a single county[edit]
For the category People of Chicago code is:
{{People of the United States by city|Chicago|Illinois|Cook County, Illinois}}
which is equivalent to the following code:
[[Category:Chicago]][[Category:People of Cook County, Illinois| Chicago]][[Category:People of Illinois by city|Chicago]][[Category:People of the United States by city|Chicago]]
Example #3: city or town spanning two counties[edit]
For the category People of Shreveport, Louisiana code is:
{{People of the United States by city|Shreveport, Louisiana|Louisiana|Bossier Parish, Louisiana|Caddo Parish, Louisiana}}
which is equivalent to the following code:

Example #4: city or town which parent category has not a standard name[edit]
This applies in case the name adopted for the category is not suitable for sorting (i.e.: Town of Hempstead instead of Hempstead). For the category People of Islip, New York code is:
{{People of the United States by city|Town of Islip, New York|New York|Suffolk County, New York|key=Islip}}
which is equivalent to the following code:
[[Category:Town of Islip, New York]][[Category:People of Suffolk County, New York| Islip]][[Category:People of New York (state) by city|Islip]][[Category:People of the United States by city|Islip]]
Note that in this case the sort key is Islip instead of Town of Islip. Note also that key must be used as last field.
