confusion

I confess I have a deep confusion about the "Thanks" buttons and links.

I search around for an explanation but did not find one.

It seems to me that I should have thanked you for providing such a wonderful moving image that is both encyclopedic and also illustrative of ideas more difficult to express. :)

So, a belated and deserved thank you! -- RaboKarbakian (talk) 22:59, 19 October 2015 (UTC)

Hi RaboKarbakian. Thanks for your message. Haha, I understand your confusion, but it is really not you who should be thanking me (or who expected to be thanked in any way). Rather it is I thanking you for using a media contribution of mine in a context that was completely surprising to me. I like it when that happens!
The way it works is as follows, if you notice an edit, which you think is great and worth thanking for you can go to the history tab of the page and find the edit you want to thank for. Next to the edit, there is a 'thank' link. Click it to 'thank'. I often use this when, e.g., I notice a fellow wikimedian has been kind enough to add a translation of a file page description to another language, or improve the categorization, or in general just to show my appreciation of when users do good work - small and big. Vyborg

No problem. Actually, even had it been taken in the Vyborg I'd been thinking of, it should have properly been characterized as Russian, not Finnish. Computer brain ... Daniel Case (talk) 18:34, 27 October 2015 (UTC)
