Mitteilungen[edit]

Wer mir etwas mitteilen möchte, bitte hier eintragen oder besser noch: per Email - ich logge mich nicht täglich hier ein. Danke --S.moeller 15:46, 4 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

If anyone has as message for me - please write here or better: mail me - I'm very often on Wiki-Commons (but not every day!) Thanks --S.moeller 09:45, 13 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Nice image, but it is tilted rather heavily. Should be rotated a few degrees so that the reling on the ferry bridge is horizontal and the two candelabers more or less vertical. 84.72.165.37 21:02, 12 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi - I saw your complaint about Thuresson. I must say I completely agree with him... please keep in mind that more than 90% of the files on commons are photos. Placing them all under Category:Photos would render that category useles - it would be much too big to find anything, and it would become completely non-descriptive. "Media-Type" categories make sense for the more rare types, like Category:Sound - but even there, files should not be put directly into that category, but into one of the more specific sub-categories.

Please try to apply the must specific categories that fit the picture. For photographs, the categories should answer the questions "what?" and, for fixed things, "where?".

But thanks for contributing (and categorizing!) anyway. I know that the ways of the commons my be confusing to a newcommer, please have a look around and try to get a feel for the place :)

Thanks for your respons. Please don't take things so personally, I don't think Thuresson did this to upset you. Like everything in a wiki, maintaining and cleaning up categories is done by all users in cooperation, and he had to start somewhere. I agree that there should be no photos directly inside Category:Photos - there are some sub-categories, like Category:Aerial photos, that make some sense, and maybe there could be more - but creating a special photo category for everything (photos of animals, photos of playes in germany, etc) does not seem sensible to me. I also agree that Category:Photography (which exists) should be used for media about the art of photography. I'm sure you can work out something with Thuresson which would be acceptable to both of you.

Note that admins are just regular users with a few more options. Maintaining and Claning up categories takes a lot of time, and people (including me) often just fix the part they notice - I often find things that need cleanup, but I can't do all that by myself. I also belive that it is good practice to tell people to chainge their ways, so the problem does not arise any more. If you feel that there are pictures in Category:Photos that do not belong there (and I agree with that), and you have some time, just move them somewhere else. It's a wiki, after all...

Windows screenshots[edit]

...can't be released into the PD, as the UI is copyright by Microsoft. ed g2stalk 16:35, 19 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, linux should be okay. Although the shots are of Firefox, it still uses the standard Windows UI (fading blue bar, grey buttons...), which I imagine MS wouldn't want you trying to release under a free license. ed g2stalk 03:03, 20 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
