Vuoi provarci? :-)--Threecharlie (talk) 17:08, 27 November 2011 (UTC)

Ticket:2010021310015081 is going to need some assistance from an Italian speaker, as it may or may not already give permission for everything. Are you able to contact it:Utente:Abisys for additional help with that ticket? As the permission came via yourself, they should be able give pertinent information. Otherwise, I see from Giorgio's website that he may not speak English, so any further request to him would best be in Italian. Perhaps a template for a form letter could be written up and translated in languages other than English? russavia (talk) 10:09, 29 November 2011 (UTC)

Dmitry Avdeev

I know that I've already asked you something like that before (about Evgeny Pashnin) but what photos by Dmitry Avdeed we can upload here? Everything from airliners, yes? (Just wanna be sure that I'm not violating something.) Thanks in advance! James R. Nockson (talk) 17:35, 28 November 2011 (UTC)

Yep, Dima is cool with his a.net pics being used. I will do up a template for him as well as Genya in the near future. russavia (talk) 09:55, 29 November 2011 (UTC)

Link to spreadsheet of photographers who have been contacted

If you refer to this spreadsheet you will see which airliners.net photographers I have thus far contacted, and at which state the request has been dealt with.

  • Green = They have given permission and their categories and template can be found at Category:Aviation photographers
  • Orange = I am in correspondence with them, answering questions, allaying concerns, etc. Permission has not yet been given, but it hasn't been denied.
  • Red = They have replied and do not wish to have their photos on Commons
  • Light Blue = My email to them rejected and I will attempt to contact them by other means
  • Light Yellow = My email to them rejected and I have contacted them by other means, and am now awaiting a response.
  • Light Purple = Not contactable via the airliners.net interface

If you want me to contact any specific photographer, first make sure that I haven't already contacted them by looking on the spreadsheet, and if I haven't, leave a request below and I'll be happy to do that.

Nockson's requests

Hey, great idea to have list like that! Looked it throw but couldn't find some of my older requests there. So, I write them all down here again, most important are in bold:

That's all for now. For Russian photographers will be great to have access to their photos from russianplanes.net too. Best regards, James R. Nockson (talk) 18:45, 18 November 2011 (UTC)

Hi Nockson, I have contacted all of these photographers, with the exception of Christian Waser who isn't contactable thru airliners.net -- I will try other avenues for him. I will be adding this list to the spreadsheet in next day or so. You will be kept informed as to results. Cheers, russavia (talk) 10:54, 25 November 2011 (UTC)
Note to myself only - Waser has been contacted via http://www.myaviation.net/search/search.php?uid=15287 russavia (talk) 10:59, 25 November 2011 (UTC)
Note to self - Turk rejected - now contacted via http://www.myaviation.net/search/search.php?view=&photographer=joeri%20turk russavia (talk) 11:02, 25 November 2011 (UTC)
AWESOME! Can't wait to start uploading photos! Thanks pal! James R. Nockson (talk) 21:44, 25 November 2011 (UTC)
Ah, and this weekend I'm gonna go on a reconnaissance misson to find out which photos from your list I will be able to make. You can expect my report soon (and maybe photos). James R. Nockson (talk) 21:47, 25 November 2011 (UTC)

Could you please check the status for OTRS tickets?

I mean these ones in particular (I've received initial permissions from the authors, but there is problem in Commons confirming this)

and

have the permissions been confirmed already? Thanks in advance... --RussianTrooper (talk) 17:08, 28 November 2011 (UTC)

Hi RussianTrooper, all 3 have been closed successfully. So it is confirmed. Have the photos been uploaded to Commons yet? If so, do you have links so I can update the OTRS. russavia (talk) 09:57, 29 November 2011 (UTC)
http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Ak103_1.png - this one is already. Than I'll start downoloading the others))--93.153.204.123 15:16, 29 November 2011 (UTC)
Hold on before you start that. I am going to have to check this with the OTRS agent who dealt with the tickets. Just wait for 100% confirmation from myself before uploading anything. This will prevent images being deleted. Sorry, best to be safe than sorry. russavia (talk) 15:19, 29 November 2011 (UTC)

Thank you for acting so promptly in respect of the image and templates. Cloudbound (talk) 14:57, 3 December 2011 (UTC)

No problem. Would you like to look at User_talk:Russavia/Proposal and see if you have anything to add there? russavia (talk) 15:03, 3 December 2011 (UTC)
Yes, certainly. Cloudbound (talk) 00:54, 5 December 2011 (UTC)

File:Betsy Foxman00.jpg

Thanks for your note re the above image. I'm at loss for words. Since uploading the image I have been bombarding Permissions with copies of emails between myself and Prof. Foxman. In particular I asked ********* to confirm his receipt of my last email - this was never done. User Pill has replied to my query here with ticket# 2011113010026722, so I hope this nightmare is soon laid to rest. cheers Paul venter (talk) 18:18, 3 December 2011 (UTC)

Please note that OTRS agents are volunteers, and as such emails are dealt in whatever time an agent is able to devote to doing so. I am actually the OTRS agent who has been dealing with the ticket in question, and there was a space of less than 2 days between our last correspondence and my last reply to yourself. You have also received an email from me in the last 12 hours -- please check your email inbox for it -- as it contains some information which needs to be fixed I am able to confirm the ticket. russavia (talk) 00:49, 4 December 2011 (UTC)
I have sent an email to ********** which reads as follows:
"Dear ***********,
If "use on Wikipedia without restriction" is not the same thing as releasing it into the public domain, then I am seriously concerned about the administration of Commons. It is troubling that Prof Foxman's word is not sufficient to get an idea across. If you want to send her a permission template to fill in then that is up to you, but after her gracious exchange and her willingness to supply the image, it would be extremely boorish to approach her again. I am pretty certain that Scott C. Soderberg is in the employ of the University, takes all official photos and attaches his copyright template to them to protect them from unauthorised use, but that the authority to use them ultimately lies with the subject of the photo. It is insulting the intelligence of Prof Foxman to assume that she is flouting copyright considerations - she is a professional person who is well aware of such matters, particularly since in my first email to her I stated quite clearly that there should be no copyright issues."
Thank you for your understanding, Paul venter (talk) 13:05, 4 December 2011 (UTC)
OTRS is in receipt of your email. The only thing I will say here is that it is not up to OTRS agents to obtain the correct permissions for editors who are uploading material; otherwise every waking moment would be taken up doing such things, and we are editors too with other things we wish to do. "use on Wikipedia without restriction" is not the same thing as "releasing it into the public domain" or "grant(ing) anyone the right to use the work in a commercial product and to modify it according to their needs". Refer to Commons:L#Acceptable_licenses for further information. russavia (talk) 13:21, 4 December 2011 (UTC)
I think more time has been wasted by OTRS agents in laying down the law to me than if they had simply contacted Prof Foxman themselves and got her to comply with this bureaucratic falderal. May I also point out that my contributions like yours are unpaid and voluntary, and that this whole matter is as much a waste of my time as it is of yours. cheers Paul venter (talk) 16:37, 4 December 2011 (UTC)

Request

Hi there! I'm following your contributions to Commons since months ago, when you left a message on the Wikiproject:aviation on the Spanish Wikipedia. A few weeks ago, I have taken advantage of your good work, to upload images with OTRS. As you are an expert on this, I wonder if you can get more OTRS from other spaniard photographers, (for expample Fabio Acuna/Fabio Acuña or A. Muñiz, that are good ones), as I'm not very familiar with this kind of petitions. Greets, --Dura-Ace (talk) 22:22, 14 November 2011 (UTC)

Hi Dura-ace, thanks for the message. Of course, I would be happy to contact the photographer's you have mentioned here. It may take a little while to hear back from them with a negative or positive answer, but I will surely let you know how I go when I do hear back. Cheers, russavia (talk) 01:58, 15 November 2011 (UTC)
Thank you very much Russavia!--Dura-Ace (talk) 21:32, 16 November 2011 (UTC)
Hi, Dura-Ace, I have contacted the photographers in questions, and now I will await a response. If you refer to User_talk:Russavia#Link_to_spreadsheet_of_photographers_who_have_been_contacted, you will see a list of those photographers I have already contacted. I will add these ones to the list in the next couple of days.
Perhaps, you could also do me a favour. If you refer to en:User:Russavia/Required_photos#.C2.A0Spain you will see that I am trying to find someone who can help me get photos of what is listed there. I need many photos from Spain, and also from around the world. Perhaps you could mention this request for me on Spanish Wikipedia, and to anyone you may know who may live in any of those cities around the world. I would appreciate it. russavia (talk) 10:36, 25 November 2011 (UTC)
Hi, Russavia. I've added a petition on the section Wikipedia:Imágenes solicitadas, if there is a chance to somebody to take a photo of the Russian Consulate in Barcelona. Cheers--Dura-Ace (talk) 19:38, 26 November 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for that Dura-ace, appreciated. Haven't heard anything back yet. We might need to do a form letter in English, and have it translated in Spanish. What do you think? russavia (talk) 10:10, 29 November 2011 (UTC)
I've made a petition to the person that few months ago helped with some enquires related with photos in Barcelona area. I hope that he can help us with the image of the Russian Consulate. By the way, I think that also can be a good idea having an OTRS form translated into Spanish :) --Dura-Ace (talk) 15:32, 3 December 2011 (UTC)

Hi, Russavia. I was wondering if you have heard about aviationcorner.net before (is a website look-alike to airliners.net), because I think that it can be a good option in order to contact some photographers from this website. Cheers, --Dura-Ace (talk) 22:31, 5 December 2011 (UTC)

This is the first time I've seen the site. It looks quite good. With most of the photographers on there obviously speaking Spanish, this is where you would be best contacting them for permission. I am currently working on User:Russavia/Aviation for the WikiProject, and we'll need to get this translated into main languages...I guess Spanish, German, French, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, Chinese, Japanese, Arabic are the main languages which would be useful getting information in. As I have finished this, I will do up an "outreach" page, which will include form letters which can be used to contact photographers, and you could translate this into Spanish. I will also do up an FAQ to answer some of the most common questions that I am asked by photographers. You can then contact photographers directly, or even perhaps post a message on their forums or whatever. That is, if you wish to wait for all of this to be done before requesting permissions. russavia (talk) 22:48, 5 December 2011 (UTC)

Three questions

Hi! I've got two three questions:

  • Would you mind if I create category where all aviation photographers will be sorted by name and not by country like now? It'll make search for certain photographer easier (for me at least). I have something like that on one of my subpages: User:Nockson/Photographers.
  • Can I create categories for individual aircraft of specific model based on their serial numbers? For example Category:Yak-38 (s/n 0201) or something like that. Is there any rules?
  • Do you know any other site like defenceimagery.mil that hosts free military-related photos?
    • Sorry, I don't. The Romanian defence ministry apparently has released their photos under CC -- I saw this template the other day somewhere. Apart from that, I don't know :( russavia (talk) 17:27, 4 December 2011 (UTC)

Thanks in advance! James R. Nockson (talk) 17:12, 4 December 2011 (UTC)

User trouble

На Commons:Village pump вы писали, что "Harrassment of editors is not on". Пожалуйста, обратите внимание на [1] и [2] и [3] и [4].--PereslavlFoto (talk) 05:31, 9 December 2011 (UTC)

PereslavlFoto, I am going to respond in English here, because I am going to be very clear, and I don't want there to be any misunderstanding of my words. I have reviewed the links you gave to me, and the first two are of concern, in that they show a civility issue; although they are now somewhat stale, so I would not act upon those. But I will inform Berilii that personal attacks are NOT acceptable. The last two links are and aren't of concern. Let me explain. The deletion request was for valid reasons, in that the page was more than a gallery -- in that regard I am not concerned. If you would like Пересечение 2011 в Переславле reinstated to your userspace, and for you to get it to conform with COM:GALLERY, I am happy to do that. It was also mentioned in that request that Berilliy used the request to troll you. And it appears it is all part of an ongoing clash between the two of you. That concerns me somewhat. Just as Commons:Deletion requests/File:Assumption Cathedral in Goritsky Monastery.jpg concerns me.
Now, I did say that I will not stand for harrassment of editors on Commons, and I mean it. The following comments are not directed at you, but are in very general terms. Commons is supposed to be a project where people can forget about petty b/s and work together in a chilled environment. If editors aren't able to do that, and insist on editing in a constant state of conflict, then I am more than happy to investigate fully, and listen to arguments and the like from editors, but please note that this is as true on Commons as it is on enwp, but I don't see why editors on Commons would need to either import, create or engage in interpersonal disputes. I would suggest that everyone take a big chill pill, forget about petty disputes, and remember why we are here. You all do good things on the project, don't let negative stuff get in the way of that. russavia (talk) 06:31, 9 December 2011 (UTC)
I agree with that deletion, for people explained my misunderstanding. «I will inform» — that is fine, thank you.--PereslavlFoto (talk) 12:32, 9 December 2011 (UTC)
OK, no problem. But if you need it back at any stage so you can work with it, let me know. russavia (talk) 02:16, 10 December 2011 (UTC)
Assumption Cathedral case — the image was published without the author attribution, that was the reason for DR.--PereslavlFoto (talk) 12:33, 9 December 2011 (UTC)
OK, but this is what I see as part of what is an obvious problem of interpersonal relations between specific editors. I see when it was uploaded it was uploaded as {{Own}}. But with ?? as the author. Did you at any stage go and ask the editor about it? Perhaps if you asked about it on their talk page, it may have prevented what appears, given the history I've seen, to be trolling by using a DR to escalate already-poor interpersonal relations with Berilii.
Remembering that I have a very low tolerance for b/s, what is it going to take for editors on both sides of what appears to be a poor editorial relationship to forget about the past. I hope that all editors can from this point on forget the past completely, and start afresh with each other without outside intervention. :) russavia (talk) 02:16, 10 December 2011 (UTC)
Боюсь, что without outside intervention этот участник убедился в своей правоте и в том, что оскорблять меня надо и дальше.--PereslavlFoto (talk) 13:50, 12 December 2011 (UTC)

a request

Commons delinker replaced references to File:Australian Icebreaker Aurora Australis -a.jpg with File:Aurora Australis (2).jpg.

In my opinion "Australian Icebreaker Aurora Australis -a" is a more informative name than "Aurora Australis (2)". So, I am surprised that it should supercede the earlier name.

Since November 2009 I have tried to leave a note on every flickr image I uploaded -- mainly so no one wastes their time uploading that image a second time. Either I forgot, in this particular case, or the flickr uploader erased that note. I have noticed that the occasional flickr uploader erases notes of this kind.

I am going to keep on leaving these courtesy notes -- mainly to prevent wasting time uploading duplicates. Until the tools for uploading from flickr start recognizing when an image is a duplicate may I ask you to consider doing so as well? It seems practically no one else leaves a courtesy note, even though it is provably useful in preventing wasteful duplication of effort, shows respect to the flickr uploader, and encourages them to keep on uploading using a free liscense, and only takes aobut 20 seconds.

In addition, I request that when you find you have uploaded a flickr image that is a duplicate of one that has already been uploaded -- unless there is some over-riding reason -- you leave the original as-is.

Commons Aviation WikiProject signpost

Hi, I just stumbled across the Commons Aviation WikiProject, but shouldn't there be a signpost on at least the commons category:Aviation and commons category:Aircraft pages? I recently started what might be a relevant thread at Category talk:Lockheed military planes - perhaps you or I should re-start the nub of that at Commons Aviation Wikiproject? PeterWD (talk) 15:28, 11 December 2011 (UTC)

Hi Peter, the Aviation WikiProject is still being set up -- I am doing a lot of stuff for project members to review and comment on. But categorisation is one thing that the project will cover, so perhaps it might be worth while also placing the info on the COM:AVIATION talk page. I wouldn't remove it from the category talk page completely, but perhaps start a thread on the Project talk page, and place a link to the discussion on the category talk page to the aviation project and ask that editors comment at COM:AVIATION instead. Of course, in such things, a Wikiproject can only provide guidelines and recommendations on how categorisation would work with it's scope, because ultimately such things are decided by the greater community. But having a guideline or such that has been discussed by a group of editors working towards a common goal would be influential on the community. Please feel free to add yourself to the list of members at Commons:WikiProject_Aviation/Members, so that we know who is interested in the project and may be able to assist.
In relation to the comment on a "signpost" , do you mean something like the talk page banners on articles on Wikipedia project, e.g. en:Template:WikiProject Aviation? I did have it on the to-do list here, but it seems another editor has created it at Template:WikiProject Aviation - it just needs some finetuning and expansion and the like.
Please join the project, in the coming days/weeks, I will have a heap of information for editors, and there will be much collaboration. If you have any comments, suggestions, etc, feel free to use the talk page. And I look forward to seeing the discussion about the lockheed cat, and I will provide my own input in due course. Cheers, russavia (talk) 00:40, 12 December 2011 (UTC)

Involved admin aren't entitled to anything when it comes to using admin rights. That has always been rule number one and why did you forget that? Ottava Rima (talk) 15:32, 31 December 2011 (UTC)

Permission

Per my belief in your objectivity and your honest desire to make peace and end disruption, I put my faith in your discretion and belief in what is the appropriate form of action. As such, I give you the right to withdraw the de-adminship proposal or any other of my proposals related to the Fae/Rd232/Herbythyme matters that I have put up and to strike any comments of mine regarding the matter that have crossed the line or added unnecessary drama. Ottava Rima (talk) 15:36, 1 January 2012 (UTC)

Thank you for the note. I have ended the de-admin request as being withdrawn by yourself. I also think that withdrawing/striking your comments on the admin noticeboard was an adult thing to do, and right under the circumstances. I would now simply ask you to complete the disengagement and not respond to anything further on the noticeboards, and I am certain that others will also get the message and do likewise. The back and fro in circumstances when tensions are already high only serves to inflame the situation further, and all parties doing this will calm the situation.
If editors want something to occupy some of their time feel free to ask me, I am happy to give a few links to streams on flickr which require uploading to Commons. Lest not forget what the purpose of Commons is, and why we are all essentially here. russavia (talk) 17:17, 1 January 2012 (UTC)

Civility

You warned everyone about incivility. One of the civility requirements is that you do not make claims of impropriety without proof. James not only refuses to provide proof but goes so far to verify that his claims of harassment are a legal matter. So basically, he is claiming I am committing criminal activity without any proof or evidence. This is not acceptable behavior in any Wiki and if it happened in, say, en.wikipedia he would have been blocked for at least 24 hours and kept being blocked if he wouldn't stop. No one has the right to make such outrageous and false legal accusations and it is really incivil. Please enforce our conduct standards. Ottava Rima (talk) 15:43, 4 January 2012 (UTC)

Unfounded accusations and more incivility from Fred. Why are these people allowed to behave in this manner? Ottava Rima (talk) 17:10, 4 January 2012 (UTC)

Can you please tell me (i) if this is true, and if it is: (ii) when and how he did this (iii) why you did not feel it necessary to tell me of this breach of trust (iv) what your view of my comments is, since Ottava claims of the 9 users "they agreed that you were defending Fred's action in an inappropriate manner."[5]. Please either email me or respond on my talk page, since I'm asking the other users Ottava has identified and I would prefer not to have discussion scattered on different talk pages. Thank you. File:Sukhoi Su-35 MAKS'2011 Avdeev.jpg

Hi! Image of Su-35S that you've uploaded (File:Sukhoi Su-35 MAKS'2011 Avdeev.jpg) was marked for deletion. It's by Dmitry Avdeev. Apart from other files from him it doesn't have an OTRS permission ticket but instead OTRS pending template. I hope it's just a mistake. User who nominated image for deletion haven't notified you so I'm doing this. James R. Nockson (talk) 10:49, 10 January 2012 (UTC)

Hi thanks for that. I have undone the possible deletion. OTRS is severely backlogged at the moment, and there will be a new ticket for this photo from Dima; it is simply awaiting processing is all. Thanks for letting me know. Cheers russavia (talk) 11:00, 10 January 2012 (UTC)

Hi Claude, there is currently a long backlog on OTRS of some 60 days. As we are volunteers, we simply handle as many as we have time for. I will try to take some time out over the next couple of days to look at your specific images, and will process the OTRS as appropriate. In the meantime, if you have any other specific questions, feel free to drop me a note here or at Commons:OTRS. Cheers, russavia (talk) 09:17, 13 January 2012 (UTC)
Thank you. I know your too much work. But I was only a little affraid by "deletted". Thank you and good morning.--Claude PIARD (talk) 09:43, 13 January 2012 (UTC)

A barnstar for you!

The Tireless Contributor Barnstar
I, SarahStierch, hereby award you, Russavia, with this barnstar as a thank you for your hard effort at getting quality photographs released by their photographers for the world's use onto Commons. Your efforts to work closely with photographers of aviation related subjects has not gone unnoticed. Thank you! SarahStierch (talk) 21:35, 13 January 2012 (UTC)
Thanks for that Sarah. I've still got a lot more "work" to do in this area, and COM:AVIATION will be the focus of that in the future as well. Cheers, russavia (talk) 07:31, 14 January 2012 (UTC)

Oleg Podkladov photos

Hi! I've just talked to Oleg Podkladov from russianplanes.net and he allow us to use his photos (I discussed about Yak-38 photos). Can you please e-mail him (poa54@mail.ru) and make an OTRS permission? Thanks in advance! James R. Nockson (talk) 20:36, 23 January 2012 (UTC)

Collapse

I deliberately included that in the collapse because (a) this way it's more likely the collapsed discussion will end up continuing (b) talking about a harassment policy in a subsection of a thread named for a user does carry a strong implication. I would recollapse and start a new thread - ideally with a first draft of a proposed policy linked, because being concrete like that makes it much easier for people to engage with a proposal. Rd232 (talk) 03:13, 27 January 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for the note. I have broken out the sub-section and placed it into its own section; this way it is clear that the discussion is separate. I have pointed a few users to this discussion, and there will likely be more comment on it. Before any proposal is begun to be drafted, we do need to see if there is enough support for proposing a proposal (if that makes sense lol). russavia (talk) 03:25, 27 January 2012 (UTC)
OK, fair enough, thanks. Rd232 (talk) 07:50, 27 January 2012 (UTC)
