Re: Russian Consulate, Tianjin

Hi, I already took photo(File:原俄国驻天津领事馆.jpg) of the old Russian consulate building and uploaded it to zh:原俄国驻天津领事馆.please check it out.--Xrdtj (talk) 08:13, 20 September 2011 (UTC)

That's awesome, both the photo and the article on Chinese WP. I will try to write up the English article in the coming days. Cheers, russavia (talk) 08:16, 20 September 2011 (UTC)
File:224th_Flight_Unit_Antonov_An-124_over_Moscow_6_May_2010.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Good work

Russavia, good work on your recent additions on Commons. I hope you able to remain active here for some time to come. I and others will make use of you images on the revelant wikis. - BilCat (talk) 16:44, 24 September 2011 (UTC)

Thanks, for the short-term I will be here, just finishing up the current permissions I have, at the end of which I will probably retire from here as well. I will decide that in the future. Thanks. russavia (talk) 12:08, 25 September 2011 (UTC)
OK, and I understand. I do hope you can continue to uploads images here in the future. As long as the images are listed int he respective category pages for the aircraft and airlines, people will find uses for them on WP articles. It may take some time, but good images are rare, the collections you have gotten permissions for are definitely good images.
Do you know right off if you have uploaded a good inflight image of a Boeing 720? We don't have an good one for the EN.WP 720 article as yet. - BilCat (talk) 16:35, 26 September 2011 (UTC)
I've been looking online for an image of the wp:Cessna 526 CitationJet, and the onlyt decent image I've found is from Tregear&u=photographer Rich Tregear on the [Air Britain Photographic Images Collection site. He seems to have many good images of rare military aircraft, among others, and it would be good to get permissions for his photos. Would you be interested in tryin to secure permissions for thses photos? Thanks. - BilCat (talk) 17:04, 27 September 2011 (UTC)

Your advice will be appreciated

Could you advice about issue with ad-hominem [1] arguments about PD-Ukraine and PD-GermanGov files - I can't comprahand which source Trycatch is asking for - PD-Ukraine documents held in Public state archives, copies obtained for a fee 4-6 years ago. Cropped portion of PD-GermanGov image from Public exhibition - I'm not oppose to add more details about the actual author - which was not avialable to me at time of uploading (since for me is more important a correct description of what actually depicted on it). But why delete and false accusation? ThanksJo0doe (talk) 16:02, 30 September 2011 (UTC)

Couldn't have been a Qantas 747-400 flying over the Starbeyevo area could it? Or perhaps an Aer Lingus jet? That is a possibility. I'll check with Kustov to see if he caught anything on film lol russavia (talk) 16:13, 7 October 2011 (UTC)

Any news?

Hello!

Sorry for bothering you but do you have any news on my Yak-141 photos request? Nearly two weeks passed and I'm wondering is there any troubles with photographers or anything.

Ah, and one more - it will be awesome to get this photographer's photos too:

Best regards, James R. Nockson (talk) 19:39, 6 October 2011 (UTC)

Hey mate, sorry for delay. I am currently discussing a few things with the photographer in question for the Yak-141 photo, and I hope to have an answer before too long. I don't pressure the guys at all, as I like to allow them to make an informed decision in their own time. If I haven't heard anything in a few days, I will touch base with them again.

In relation to Igor Bubin, I will put him on the list of photographers to contact if you like. I will try to keep you informed as best I can in relation to my request to him. Cheers, russavia (talk) 10:33, 8 October 2011 (UTC)

That's great! Sorry again for my impatience and thanks for what you're doing! James R. Nockson (talk) 10:47, 8 October 2011 (UTC)
No worries, it's not impatience, but rather enthusiasm ;) Cheers, russavia (talk) 10:53, 8 October 2011 (UTC)

Tupolev Tu-154

Hello Russavia! Yes - of course you may use my MALS and Krai Aero Tu-154M images in your planned Wiki articles. Have added them to Wiki Commons just now. Both taken at Vnukovo Airport in August 1994. Glad to be able to help the you and the Wiki community! Looking forward to seeing the result in due course. Best wishes. Ruth. RuthAS (talk) 09:47, 8 October 2011 (UTC)

Hello again! Glad to have helped - but have very little on MALS. One reference refers to the airline as "MALS Deoghar" - don't know what the latter word indicates! 88.109.51.41 12:23, 8 October 2011 (UTC)
Hello Russavia Yes, I will probably upload the Moldova and ALAK Tu-154 images. But first, please tell me again what use you plan for them within Wikipedia. RuthAS (talk) 15:55, 8 October 2011 (UTC)

User:Biggerben

Not sure if you are responding on en at the moment but just for information User:Biggerben is uploading some aircraft images which appear at http://www.jetphotos.net/showphotos.php?userid=49175 as all rights reserved. I have made a suggestion on his en talk page that it might be worth an email into the OTRS system to prove provenance as he is relasing them with a different licence on commons. Hope you dont mind but I have mentioned your name if he wants further info, thanks. MilborneOne (talk) 10:14, 8 October 2011 (UTC)

OTRS might be an idea. If the user wants to contact me, I will tell them what needs to be done. Cheers, russavia (talk) 11:31, 8 October 2011 (UTC)

Query

Hey! I see you keep adding new aviation photographers all time time :) Have you by any chance contacted Jan Einar Fardal, Kjell Arild Bersås or Jan Harald Olsen? Arsenikk (talk) 11:36, 10 October 2011 (UTC)

I have now, I'll let you know of any outcome. Cheers russavia (talk) 12:42, 10 October 2011 (UTC)
Olsen is done[2] russavia (talk) 17:26, 10 October 2011 (UTC)
Great :) Much appreciated. Arsenikk (talk) 17:35, 10 October 2011 (UTC)

Word docs

FYI, attaching a Word document isn't any better than the individual pasting the text into an email. A PDF with signature scanned in is what would actually carry weight; anyone can modify a Word document. Say someone no longer wanted their photos up here; they could claim you altered the document before forwarding it. That's another reason why I contact the users directly when their emails aren't shown in their profiles; it not only verifies their email address but also ensures that we have an air-tight release that can't be disputed. – Adrignola talk 14:31, 10 October 2011 (UTC)

A PDF with signature could also be faked. It's ok if you need to contact the photographers I am getting permission from. It would be easier if their emails were visible in their airliners.net profiles, but alas. I may talk to the people behind airliners.net and see if they would be interested in allowing their uploaders to licence under free licences on the site itself, which of course would then create a need for a flickreview type process to verify they were under that licence. Arggghhh.... russavia (talk) 15:20, 10 October 2011 (UTC)
Speaking of which, 101168 images in Category:License review needed – Adrignola talk 15:49, 10 October 2011 (UTC)
Arrghhhh. User:TgrBot is uploading all of these images from the Hungarian site. The bot operator should be reviewing the licences before images are uploaded. Considering there are going to be several thousand images, this type of upload shouldn't cause such work for the community. Reviewing several thousand images is quite an unnecessary chore, if it was done by the bot at the time of upload. russavia (talk) 15:58, 10 October 2011 (UTC)
Indeed. I'm too worn out after handling OTRS tickets myself to do much else to make a dent in that total. OTRS is much like Commons; too few volunteers and a high rate of turnover due to the never-ending backlogs burning people out. If the Flickr-review bot can do it, so can TgrBot. – Adrignola talk 16:24, 10 October 2011 (UTC)

Oleg Belyakov

Hi! I've just found errr maybe a mistake, I dunno. Oleg Belyakov for some reason was not included in "Aviation photographers" category. I've just noticed that as I'm gonna upload some of his photos and added that category. Sorry if I'm wrong! James R. Nockson (talk) 22:08, 16 October 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for picking that up and adding him to the category. Cheers russavia (talk) 15:51, 17 October 2011 (UTC)

Gorky Sadan of Kolkata

Dear Russavia,

There are some photos of the Gorky Sadan of Kolkata that I took yesterday for you. There is very little space so I could not cover the full building. In front of that building the Sadan authority placed over sized bill board also. -- Biswarup Ganguly (talk) 15:45, 17 October 2011 (UTC)

File:Mid East Jet Boeing 737-700 KvW.jpg

Hi

N767KS is operated by Jet Stream Aviation

Will you please remove Mid East Jet from the title

Thank you

At the time the photo was taken the aircraft was operated by Mid East Jet, so the title and description were correct. It has been amended to reflect Jet Stream now operates the aircraft. russavia (talk) 11:24, 16 October 2011 (UTC)

Could someone provide a source of this? Did certain planes change owners? Is Jet Stream Aviation just a new name or did they get taken over? I got the same request to rename one of my pictures, but I see no proof. In fact, there are no "big" airplanes listed on Jet Stream Aviation's Homepage. --Biggerben (talk) 06:50, 18 October 2011 (UTC)

Re: Poznan hey? Hmmm. :)

Hi Russavia,
I've had some free time today and so I went to take a photo of the Russian consulate in Poznań. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to capture it; the view is totally blocked by the trees and a very high fence and it is truly impossible to take an usable photograph. I think there might be a chance of taking the photo in the winter or if we ask the consulate for a special permission to enter it and take some photos. This would require, however, an official letter from a Wikimedia organisation, particularly from Wikimedia Russia or Wikimedia Poland, and I don't think it is doable in a foreseeable future. I am sorry to bring you so sad news... :-( odder (talk) 21:58, 17 October 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for that Odder. I might be in contact again in the future, if something I am working on bears any fruit. Cheers, russavia (talk) 05:21, 18 October 2011 (UTC)

Download Aldo Bidini photos from Airliners.net

Hi Russavia, sorry for my poor english. I cannot download Aldo Bidini at maximum size as well this (military planes in italian service) and Aermacchi MB-308. Can do it this? Thanks :-)--Threecharlie (talk) 21:14, 21 October 2011 (UTC)

Hi 3C, File:Historical Aircraft Group Aermacchi MB-308 Bidini.jpg and File:North American T-6G Texan I-SSEP Bidini.jpg have been uploaded. I will get rid of the watermark once my 1st class membership kicks back in at airliners.net -- should only be a few days. russavia (talk) 08:15, 22 October 2011 (UTC)
Also, I have a list of photos from Italy which I need for various articles on Russian diplomacy. The list is at en:User:Russavia/Required_photos#.C2.A0Italy. Can you help with any of these? Or perhaps help me find editors who can help? Any help appreciated. Cheers, russavia (talk) 08:15, 22 October 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for your work :-). Ok, for your list of photos from Italy, I try to find a user who lives in those cities and whether they are already present in it.wiki or online with the appropriate license compatible with Commons. I have a new question for you: Can you tell me if you can upload some old photos of aircraft of the Soviet period found on the web? (text written with the help of google translate)--Threecharlie (talk) 08:26, 22 October 2011 (UTC)
Which photos from the Soviet Union are you looking for? Have you looked at Category:Aviation photographers to see if any of these photographers have what you are looking for? All of the photographers in that category have licenced their works for use on Commons. russavia (talk) 11:56, 22 October 2011 (UTC)
No, I want to know if any photos find in http://www.polarpost.ru/forum/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=225&p=24000 or http://www.airwar.ru/enc/flyboat/df.html can use with PD-Russia. :-)--Threecharlie (talk) 14:12, 22 October 2011 (UTC)
Ah, ok, if they were published prior to 1943, they could be eligible for uploading under {{PD-Russia-2008}} - it depends on whether the author is known or not. Looking at the links you showed me, I can't say with certainty whether they could be uploaded. russavia (talk) 14:20, 22 October 2011 (UTC)

Category:Photos_by_Fabrizio_Berni you will find another Italian photographer. He has photos of the Italian Air Force if you are wanting to find anything else in particular. russavia (talk) 19:25, 23 October 2011 (UTC)

Thanks, I see his gallery. ;-)--Threecharlie (talk) 12:54, 24 October 2011 (UTC)

renaming

Hi! If you'll have spare time please rename my image File:MiG-29KUB at MAKS-2011 airshow.jpg to File:MiG-29K at MAKS-2011 airshow.jpg. I made a mistake while uploading - it's actually a single-seater though it has long cockpit. Thanks in advance! James R. Nockson (talk) 19:55, 28 October 2011 (UTC)

Also, is there any template for Yevgeny Pashnin? All of his photos from airliners can be uploaded here? James R. Nockson (talk) 20:53, 28 October 2011 (UTC)

Hi Nockson, I have moved the file as requested. In regards to Pashnin, I haven't done one up it seems. I will need to get a copy of the OTRS ticket to see exactly what photos are allowed, but his airliners.net photos are definitely part of the permission, so you can upload any of his pics -- just use the <nowikiTemplate:OTRS....</nowiki> on his for the time being, and I will do the template later on. Also you will have to manually add his category to his photos. Cheers, russavia (talk) 21:30, 28 October 2011 (UTC)
Oh, I see. Thanks! James R. Nockson (talk) 09:02, 29 October 2011 (UTC)

Two Caravelles

Here are two Caravelles for your collection: File:SAS Caravelle LN-KLH.jpg and File:Bergen Aviation Caravelle.jpg. I've found some sources for en:Bergen Aviation and will be making an article for it on en.wp.

On another issue, have you / any chance you could request permissions from Ole Johan Beck, Jan Olav Martinsen, Hans Olav Nyborg, Kjell Nilsson and Rainer Nyberg? It would be much appreciated. Arsenikk (talk) 12:10, 18 October 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for that Arsenikk. I will contact those photographers -- Kjell I haven't yet heard back from -- and I will let you know. Cheers, russavia (talk) 08:08, 22 October 2011 (UTC)
I found an image by Volpati that I was wanting to upload, but how do I get the hold of the image? Neither Firefox nor Chrome will let me copy the image from the site. Secondly, I have created en:List of Braathens aircraft which I was planning to get to featured list, but I notice that some of the licenses of the newly uploaded images used state that there is insufficient permission. As a FL review will stop on such an issue, I was wondering if this will be resolved shortly; if not, I'll nominate a different article for FL first. Regards, Arsenikk (talk) 08:40, 25 October 2011 (UTC)
LOL, I was waiting for this message from you. To get the image there is a bit of f'ing around to. I will leave instructions on this in a little while.
In relation to the licencing, you'll have to take it up with User:Adrignola - he is contacting all of the photographers individually to confirm the permission I have been given, and he isn't verifying them until they respond to his "challenge" email. There isn't much I can do except make up a list of photographers who haven't yet responded, and re-contact them and let them know they have to respond to the challenge email. As far as I am concerned though, permission is confirmed. russavia (talk) 08:47, 25 October 2011 (UTC)
P.S. Feel like springing $15 for a 3 month membership for airlinefan.com so I can get the unwatermarked and larger versions of the photos? lol! russavia (talk) 08:47, 25 October 2011 (UTC)
Thanks; you have uploaded the image I had in mind. Arsenikk (talk) 10:05, 25 October 2011 (UTC)
Hi again. Here are four more photographers I would appreciate you contacting, if you have not already: Johan Ljungdahl, David Oates, Frank C. Duarte Jr. and Stefan Sjogren. Thanks again for the nice work, we're really getting Wikipedia's aviation contents to shine (at least the images). Arsenikk (talk) 22:35, 29 October 2011 (UTC)
I have contacted all 4 of those photographers. Stefan Sjogren responded saying he is not interesting in releasing any works under a free licence, which is his choice and which I respect. The other 3 I haven't heard anything from as yet. Lars Wahlstrom has released his stuff under GFDL 1.2 and I will be doing up his template in due course as well. I am getting bogged down with the number of permissions I am getting, and then with following up those who give initial permission, and answering questions from others. Sooner or later I will get back to creating some content, especially relating to Aeroflot, which was the whole point of this exercise in the beginning, except now it seems to have snowballed into getting as much as possible up here. Too bad there are only a couple of us using any content -- many articles still have absolutely shite photos -- if only people took a few minutes to upload and replace the shite with half decent photos. All in good time I guess. russavia (talk) 14:00, 30 October 2011 (UTC)
At your convenience, could you upload this image, please [3]. I'm doing a revamp of en:Caledonian Airways and hoping to get it up to GA-shape. Arsenikk (talk) 21:04, 1 November 2011 (UTC)

A good image for Commons?

Can you see this image of a en:Consolidated Commodore? The photo caption says it comes from Florida State Archives but I don't know if can be good for uploading. Thanks for your attention :-)--Threecharlie (talk) 20:12, 31 October 2011 (UTC)

Permission

Hi, do I need to send a permission letter, even if the photo concerned is my own work?

Image

Hi, because the photo is available from an external website, it is always best to send an email as described in the template, so that it can be logged at OTRS for future reference. It's better to be safe than sorry in future, and doing so will ensure that the photo is kept in future without any problems. Cheers, russavia (talk) 19:20, 3 November 2011 (UTC)

What if it was not available in external website?

Kukanotas (talk) 19:35, 03 November 2011 (UTC)

Call it a funny quirk of the system, but if it wasn't available on an external website, it would likely be ok. But in this instance, it is available at this link, and it may be queried again in future, so perhaps it is best just to send the email to OTRS as outlined on the image page, and all should be ok. Just leave me a short note on my talk page when you have done this, and I will amend the image page for you, so that time will be given for the OTRS to be processed. russavia (talk) 19:44, 3 November 2011 (UTC)

How can I help U?

Greetings!

I saw a list of photos that you need and I think that I am able to make some of them for you. Just tell me what type of photo do you need, is it an overall image of an embassy building or maybe you want something in detail? I live in Moscow by the way. James R. Nockson (talk) 21:27, 29 October 2011 (UTC)

Hey? James R. Nockson (talk) 19:51, 31 October 2011 (UTC)
Hi mate, sorry for my delay. I am looking for anything from en:Russavia/Required photos -- generally the building of the actual embassy/consulate, if it occupies the entire building. In other cases, preferably the actual office it occupies --- that is gonna be almost near impossible though I guess. Also, if you know anyone in any of the other cities I need photos from, especially Samara, could you let them know about my requests :) Cheers, russavia (talk) 19:26, 3 November 2011 (UTC)
Good, expect some photos in a week or so. :) Too bad most of my folks are from Moscow, but if anyone from them will ever happen to visit Samara - then I'll surely let them now about that. James R. Nockson (talk) 20:00, 3 November 2011 (UTC)

Copyright violations

Hello!

It's sad but looks like half of images in Category:Antonov An-71 are examples of copyright violation. Not long ago one of them was deleted and I think it's time to say goodbye to others. Here's these images:

What do you think, is it really a copyright violation? If so, can you please delete this images from commons. Thanks in advance. Have a good day!

Cheers, James R. Nockson (talk) 11:36, 6 November 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for letting me know. I have tagged the first for deletion, if information can't be provided. The first one looks like it came from paint.net. The second one does indeed look like a scan, but it could be a photo. We'll see if OTRS is done on those. The last one is indeed a copyvio of Ignat's work. I'll let him know I've deleted it as well. Cheers, russavia (talk) 11:48, 6 November 2011 (UTC)
About the second one - this image (link) from airwar.ru is the same exact image but in color and have lower resolution. It's obviously a scan from some B&W book. James R. Nockson (talk) 12:48, 6 November 2011 (UTC)
OK thanks. I have deleted that file. russavia (talk) 13:16, 6 November 2011 (UTC)

Etihad Airways

Hi! I notice a deletion entry at http://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=File:ETIHADHQAbuDhabi.jpg&action=edit&redlink=1

Did you read over the old discussion before proceeding? IMO it would have been better to do a straight "nominate for deletion" WhisperToMe (talk) 20:11, 7 November 2011 (UTC)

IMO, there is enough originality in the building that it breaching copyright by hosting it on Commons. I have however undeleted it, and have taken to to discussion so that you can put forward any POV that it isn't original enough. russavia (talk) 20:42, 7 November 2011 (UTC)
Thank you! I linked to a revelant commons discussion. WhisperToMe (talk) 22:56, 7 November 2011 (UTC)

Can you rename this?

The File:De Havilland Dragon Rapide cockpit.jpg have an uncorrect namefile: in it.wiki an user write in my talk that this is a cockpit of a en:Stinson Junior. Can you rename this please? Thanks :-)--Threecharlie (talk) 13:21, 8 November 2011 (UTC)

re: air canada

hi. that was not delete tag. It just asked you to validate the permission by OTRS. If there is any misleading. I apologise. --Coekon (talk) 19:19, 9 November 2011 (UTC)

Hey no problem no misleading thought, nor apology needed. I simply reverted it as the image is using a template for permission -- permission has been sent, but OTRS is backlogged at the moment, and permissions are not yet processed. I now have some 30 permissions in the queue waiting for processing -- it's best not to tag such images if you can hold of on doing it to them in future. Refer to Category:Aviation photographers -- some of these are still awaiting OTRS processing. Arrggghhhhhhhh russavia (talk) 19:22, 9 November 2011 (UTC)

Pushkin before old Derzhavin

Hello! I need some help with the File:Pushkin derzhavin.jpg. There are two versions: the gloomy one with supposedly original colors, and the brighter one and cropped. I believe that the brighter version is much better and nicer, and I intend to use it on all article on the English Wikipedia at least. I also do think that articles in other projects would benifit from using the brighter image. Could we revert the File:Pushkin derzhavin.jpg back to the brighter version, and create a separate file with another version, something like File:Pushkin Derzhavin original.jpg? Greyhood (talk) 12:41, 13 November 2011 (UTC)

Hi Greyhood, I've had a quick look at the file in question. Shakko makes mention in their revert of 17 June, that the "brighter" version is cut and is not a true representation of the painting (i.e. colours). The cut/crop on 'your' image is evident. The colours on 'your' version looks like digital alteration? I am not making a stand there either way, but if Shakko is correct in saying that "your" version is not the true colours of the painting, then I would suggest that "your" version is not suitable for an encyclopaedic article, as a true representation should be used. However, having said that, "your" version could be reuploaded under a different name, maybe something like File:Pushkin derzhavin edit.jpg. It just needs to be determined which is the "true" representation, and put that at the unambiguous file name on Commons. Usage on any article is obviously left up to editorial discretion on each project -- it would be my opinion, that the "true" representation is what is encyclopaedic and should be used in articles -- but which one is the true representation? Perhaps discuss it with Shakko to make that determination, and then upload "your" version as well. Dunno if there is anything else I could advise you on this, but I hope it answers your question nonetheless? Cheers, russavia (talk) 15:29, 13 November 2011 (UTC)
OK, I see your point, but I'll try to explain the situation better. The gloomy version of the image likely is closer to the original, since it is not cropped. But it is not only originality, but the visual quality of the image which matters. And the bright version is clearly better. An important thing is that the bright version was uploaded first in 2006 and was used for more than 5 years up to 2011. I believe most edits on various Wikipedias which incorporated this picture into articles were made in those 5 years and not in the last 5 months. And editors would likely choose to use this pic not (or not only) because they wanted the particular image by Repin, but for the scene it depicts and for the quality of the pic. And then suddenly the pic was replaced with a visually worse version. Me, at least, was very disappointed when I saw this new version of the image at en:List of Russian language poets, where I had originally inserted the bright version and had sought for a good nice image to illustrate the topic. That's why I believe the change of versions did affect the quality of articles which use the image in a negative way, and we better revert to the bright version and make the gloomy original version into a new file called File:Pushkin Derzhavin original.jpg. Also, I saw the brighter version in printed books, while not the gloomy version. And when you type "Pushkin Derzhavin" into Google and search for images you get this, which shows that the bright version and its derivatives are more popular. Greyhood (talk) 16:39, 16 November 2011 (UTC)
I would do it this way Greyhood. Leave the "original" "gloomy" image where it is, as that is likely the most close to the original production. As you are all but the only editor questioning the use of the file, take the brighter version that you prefer, upload it to a name as I suggested above. Then editors on local projects are able to choose which version they would prefer to use -- it is a matter of editorial discretion that we on Commons don't get involved in; we are only a repository for free content. If you then really feel that other projects should use the "brighter" image, you could then take it to those projects and see if those projects also want to use the same version as you do. russavia (talk) 07:15, 17 November 2011 (UTC)
Anyway, I see that the issue could easily be fixed, just a bit more action required... I just thought that 5 years of the usage of a different version would warrant an easier solution, but if you think that's not how it should be done on Commons, OK. Greyhood (talk) 09:28, 17 November 2011 (UTC)
Hm, after checking the usage of the file on en wiki more closely, I see that in some cases the "gloomy" version fits at least as good as the "brighter" one . So your proposed solution is indeed more reasonable. Greyhood (talk) 10:18, 17 November 2011 (UTC)
No problem. What I stated above is of course only my opinion as an editor. If in doubt on such things in future, one can also obtain more diverse opinion at avenues such as Commons:Village pump. :) russavia (talk) 12:31, 17 November 2011 (UTC)

Question

Hi! One of my colleagues (ru:Участник:АнатолийШ) from ru-wiki asked me a question about uploading an important photo and I promised him I ask you about that. He wants to upload a photo of a Russian admiral here that was presented to him by admiral's son. He tried to upload it a few times but couldn't explain that he has rights to upload it and photo was deleted. I know that we can verify it via OTRS but admiral's son is now ill and can't respond to e-mails. What can we do with this situation? James R. Nockson (talk) 17:03, 15 November 2011 (UTC)

Heya, that's a tough question to answer at the moment. If the admiral's son is unable to respond to emails, is there some type of written permission that one could obtain; perhaps one with a signature? Other than that, I really don't know how I would attack this particular case. Perhaps you might be able to ask User:Putnik -- as a long term OTRS'er he might have some ideas on how to go forward in this particular case. russavia (talk) 05:46, 16 November 2011 (UTC)
Thanks, I will recommend this guy to him. Have a nice day! James R. Nockson (talk) 14:26, 16 November 2011 (UTC)
No problem. If Putnik comes back with an answer could you let me know what the outcome is, as it would be something that is useful to know for future reference. Of course, Commons:OTRS/Noticeboard is another avenue that the question could be asked. russavia (talk) 08:34, 17 November 2011 (UTC)

For an expert with hawk eyes

Hi, I find this File:Pantelleria Airport.jpg on Flickr for en:Pantelleria Airport (or it.wiki of course) but I can't understand what plane it is (I think an "short" ATR 42) and airline (in it.wiki AvioBar an user suggest en:Avanti Air by vertical stabilizer logo). Given your experience can you determine it? Thanks for your attention :-)--Threecharlie (talk) 09:27, 25 November 2011 (UTC)

Hi Threecharlie, I would concur that it is an Avanti Air aircraft. Whether it is an ATR 42 or 72 is hard to tell on this monitor I am using at moment. But it does look like an ATR42. I'll leave it open and perhaps some of my other talk page watchers can help with the ID as well? Cheers, russavia (talk) 10:25, 25 November 2011 (UTC)

Wrong license

Hi, can you seen Special:Contributions/19enrico88? He has upgraded some images of aircraft of 1930s.1940s, but as if he were the author when it should be the PD-Italy (license, however, unwelcome in Commons). What do you think? PS: I announced your proposal in it:Discussioni progetto:Aviazione#Mi faccio relatore di una interessante proposta arrivata da Commons :-)--Threecharlie (talk) 12:05, 26 November 2011 (UTC)

Hi, thanks for doing that on itwp :) In relation to the photos uploaded by that user, I have doubts as to whether they are the author of the photographs. The username indicates a possibility that they were born in 1988. That's no certain, but just an observation. The editor would clearly be in their 80s-90s if they date from the 1930s. They look more like publicity photos to my eye. Also, if you look at File:IMARRobbio2.jpg there is a notation on the photograph (what's it indicate)? As the authorship is questionable, there is no source of first publication, etc. It's my initial judgement that the photos are subject to deletion under Commons:D#Missing_legal_information. But of course, we assume good faith of editors, so I would say they should be taken to COM:DR for further discussion. Would you be able to do that? russavia (talk) 12:56, 26 November 2011 (UTC)
