Yobe river catchment area.png

Desculpe demorar tanto tempo pra responder.

Ghurid dynasty

Hi, I've just noticed to File:DinastíaGúrida1149-1212-fa.svg. This is a wrong map of en:Ghurid dynasty. As the article describes, they conquered Afghanistan, Pakistan and northern India, At their zenith. However, they never control western territories including Iran and Iraq. So, please correct the map. Thank you.--Sa.vakilian (talk) 10:10, 20 March 2018 (UTC)

I am afraid you contacted the wrong person. I did not create that map but this one, which is in turn merely a SVG version of the original map. If you have valid sources that prove the map to be wrong, feel free to correct it, as with any Commons media.--Rowanwindwhistler (talk) 12:33, 20 March 2018 (UTC)

File:DisgregaciónDElCalifatoAbasí-2.svg and File:Désintégration du califat abbasside.svg

Hello.

In File:DisgregaciónDElCalifatoAbasí-2.svg and File:Désintégration du califat abbasside.svg can you remove the de-facto borders within Moldova (Transnistria) and Georgia (Abkhazia and South Ossetia), and include only de-jure borders, just like Serbia, Western Sahara and Cyprus are shown in the same maps?

Thank you.

Maphobbyist (talk) 00:48, 23 March 2018 (UTC)

Those borders come from the basemap use as background. They are not very relevant in these particular maps, but you may remove them if you like.--Rowanwindwhistler (talk) 07:45, 23 March 2018 (UTC)
Unfotunately I don't have any knowledge about editing and uploading SVG files, and live in a country called Turkey where Wikipedia is blocked and banned along with tens of thousands of other (overwhelmingly harmless and non-political) websites and even SVG programs are off limits for downloading in this country. As you are the original uploader of one these maps (and the other is its duplicate), that is why I came to you for help. Maphobbyist (talk) 20:46, 24 March 2018 (UTC)
Time to change governments then. I did the change for the Spanish map, which is one I made. If some else is interested in the changes they may copy them over to the other maps.--Rowanwindwhistler (talk) 08:33, 25 March 2018 (UTC)
Thank you very much for your contribution. (I wish I was as optimistic about a change of government - the light Islamists have taken over the entire country and are glued. They won't leave power democratically, quietly and peacefully.) Maphobbyist (talk) 18:07, 25 March 2018 (UTC)

Działania podczas wojny polsko niemieckiej 1002-1005-pt.svg

Do you have any shapefiles or GeoJSON for your maps?

Hi Rowandwindwhistler - love all of your maps. Thanks for your contributions.

I'm working with the WikiMaps group & am looking to build Wikimedia's volume of GIS-based data files for historical maps. Is there any chance you've built some maps in any GIS formats and then converted them to SVG? Or, do you have any georeferenced svg's? Thanks in advance for any help. --Jeffme (talk) 23:43, 10 April 2018 (UTC)

You are welcome. I sometimes use QGIS to generate a basemap that I later modify under inkscape (after exporting it to SVG format). Most of the work is done under inkscape, not QGIS (due to both speed and knowledge of the tool), though, even if the result is less accurate. I might have some maps saved as QGIS projects, but I doubt the main areas will be there, just the background (coasts, rivers, cities...), not the territories or borders (which I usually add as well I can in inkscape, by putting the vector layers on top of the original raster map). If you are interested in any map in particular, let me know and I will check what I have, just in case.
When I last tried georeferencing old maps some time ago I must say I was a bit frustrated. I did not know how to add points quickly (I do now, that is no longer a problem) and not knowing the projection of the original map made the fitting of the old map onto the vector layers a nightmare. This last drawback remains. As an example, I tried creating a georeferenced version of 450 roman-hunnic-empire 1764x1116.jpg (which seems to use a basemap I have seen in other William R. Shepherd maps as far as I can remember), but try as I may I cannot make a good fit (see here for EPSG: 102031) as I do not know which projection the original map uses.
If the QGIS project is useful, I could try georeferencing some of the maps, but I would probably need help with identifying the projections. Regards.--Rowanwindwhistler (talk) 07:57, 12 April 2018 (UTC)

Hi. On this map, could you erase the C-shaped area (w:Dadra and Nagar Haveli Union Territory), just west of the source of the Godavari river? It seems odd to retain it without marking all the other states and territories of India. 2A02:C7D:3C1A:7300:7DA7:E713:AABB:4E19 18:11, 29 April 2018 (UTC)

Conquistas muçulmanas

Olá amigo! Você atualizou File:Mohammad adil-Muslim invasion of Syria-3-es.svg e File:Mohammad adil-Muslim invasion of Syria-4-es.svg e agora os mapas são idênticos. Precisa corrigir.--Renato de carvalho ferreira (talk) 02:09, 17 June 2018 (UTC)

Do not edit war

Your rename request of File:First Red Guards in Petrograd, fall 1917 palace square.jpg has been declined twice recently (and a lot more often in the past). Stop requesting the rename. Sebari – aka Srittau (talk) 08:30, 18 June 2018 (UTC)

Do not use sock puppets to evade a block

Please do not use sock puppets to evade a block. I have unblocked your main account, since your last rename request was actually constructive and I have granted it. But you should have asked on this page for an unblock, instead of just creating a new account. Sebari – aka Srittau (talk) 12:08, 21 June 2018 (UTC)

p.i.a.

Concerning this edit, you might have noticed that the one person refering to you as a p.i.a. (me) is also the only one who agrees with your correct assumption concerning file renaming. I did say, too, later, that I regret calling you a p.i.a. If you require a more formal apology in the original thread, just ask. (Please note that a majority among admins and some prestigious users will be very glad to see the likes of you and me gone, so an ultimatum is counterproductive.) -- Tuválkin 14:15, 21 June 2018 (UTC)

Apologies taken, no need for further action, we all make mistakes (I more often than others). If the users with special powers (renaming, blocking or any other) prefer to run the project on their own, that is fine with me but I do not intend to carry on putting time for free and then being ill-treated when I am just trying to apply the rules that we have. The very least I can ask for is for those who have made a mistake to say sorry...--Rowanwindwhistler (talk) 14:24, 21 June 2018 (UTC)
