Down?

Rotatebot hasn't rotated any images for a few days. --Stefan4 (talk) 22:22, 10 January 2013 (UTC)

Toolserver database was down.--Luxo 20:00, 12 January 2013 (UTC)
Down again? --Stefan4 (talk) 17:43, 20 January 2013 (UTC)
There was a change at the DB, I've to fix the Bot, I'll try to do it soon... Sorry--Luxo 22:02, 24 January 2013 (UTC)

Restart it?

It hasn't rotated since the 9th. --  Docu  at 20:01, 11 February 2013 (UTC)

The bot seems still be down (since the 9th). HenkvD (talk) 18:54, 18 February 2013 (UTC)
Yep; I noticed the same; I have marked several images for rotation...no luck yet!Dmccabe (talk) 01:59, 21 February 2013 (UTC)
Up again... He has a lot of work now! (commonswiki database was moved to a other server, because of that he didn't work anymore. Should not happen again, the bot reads now from the toolserver table where the commonstable is.)--Luxo 13:57, 23 February 2013 (UTC)

The image Unico Anello.png should be changed back to its previous version, before Rotatebot rotated it 90 degrees that is, because one does not put a ring on this way, but rather the way it was shown in the previous version. To show you what I mean, have the tips of both your left and right index finger and your thumbs touch one another, with all fingers outstretched, the angle of the left hand's ring finger should then be in alignment with the ring itself. Thanks! Best, --Discographer (talk) 20:43, 16 March 2013 (UTC)

A user requested rotation. I've now added a request to rotate it back again. It should be back to normal in an hour or so. --Stefan4 (talk) 20:46, 16 March 2013 (UTC)
Hmm, the usual rotate vandalism via single-purpose or hacked account. Image reverted and user blocked. --Denniss (talk) 20:58, 16 March 2013 (UTC)

File:Darên di nav latan de.JPG

Hi, you have rotated the File:Darên di nav latan de.JPG, but its a mistake. Because originally, appearing of tree is like that ;) It has grew on left side of a rock (mount). When you rotate like that, it seems like a normal ground. Therefore if you can change your edit, i will be glad. Thx.--Gomada (talk) 18:06, 25 March 2013 (UTC)

Weird tree! I've reverted the rotation. --Stefan4 (talk) 18:22, 25 March 2013 (UTC)

rotatebot seems to remove categories

Hi, it seems that rotatebot removed categories that have been added after the rotate request. See e.g. this history --Herzi Pinki (talk) 06:12, 11 June 2013 (UTC)

The script for which I am responsible is the issue here. I'll fix this ASAP. -- Rillke(q?) 09:25, 11 June 2013 (UTC)
I have to test the change in IE; after this is done, I'll update the revision-dummy which will force all browsers to download the latest version. -- Rillke(q?) 12:38, 11 June 2013 (UTC)

Statement from Chase Masterson - "Hello, I am writing to respectfully ask you to remove these photos from wikipedia, due to the fact that they are unnecessarily unflattering, candid shots and no longer depict my look or image. I've suffered unnecessary hardships in my career and am working hard to recoup opportunity, but these photos could be an unnecessary obstacle. I would so greatly appreciate your removing them, so as to depict an accurate and current image of me." — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lemotsmith (talk • contribs) 20:36, 12. Jun. 2013‎ (UTC)

Rotatebot is a robot/script. Notifying a bot is usually pointless. Rotatebot does not upload new files at all. -- Rillke(q?) 21:53, 12 June 2013 (UTC)

I don't know why ESM added the {{rotate}}-template; probably because they saw another file which is now inaccessible. -- Rillke(q?) 21:17, 8 October 2013 (UTC)
Caused by a bug with the first file version duplicated/corrupted with wrong rotation info sent to the first valid version. --Denniss (talk) 22:47, 8 October 2013 (UTC)

@Charlik: Is it ok now? -- Rillke(q?) 16:36, 28 February 2014 (UTC)

You see the user who requested rotation in history of the file (go to a file and click on the "history"-tab). This bot only executes the orders by these users. -- Rillke(q?) 16:48, 17 April 2013 (UTC)

Rotatebot stopped working

It hasn't processed images since more than 24h although is stated that it "starts every 15 minutes". The countdown goes from 0:59 hours to 0:45 or so and than it jumped back to 0:59 again and again... very frustrating. --ELEKHHT 03:09, 17 October 2013 (UTC)

This image can't be rotated automatically by Rotatebot. Reason: EXIF had severe errors on write attempt. (ec: 1)

How do we proceed ? --olevy (talk) 20:51, 22 June 2013 (UTC)

Protocols in place re. rotating an image used in multiple articles?

While editing Name of Ukraine, I noticed that this map had been turned upside-down via a request to Rotatebot actioned on 16 July 2013. Having taken a look at the Russian wikipedia page (where this file was recently noted as being an upside-down view), I can only surmise that the request emanated from there for whatever reasons they have to want it in that view, or that it was requested by someone for no particular reason.

Considering that the file was originally uploaded for the English Wikipedia page I'm working on, I'm wondering whether I'm heading for an edit war with someone on another wiki! Having now made a request that it be corrected by being rotated 180 degrees via Rotatebot, I was surprised that there were no fields querying why, nor does it appear that any checks are made as to how many entries/articles are using it.

Does this mean that anyone can simply click on the request, even if it may be imposing on a file's usage & appearance on a multitude of pages, without due notification and consensus from all parties concerned? --Iryna Harpy (talk) 03:30, 28 August 2013 (UTC)

For rotations, our policy on overwriting existing media, COM:OVERWRITE applies as well (= it is not permitted if the rotation makes a major, potentially controversial change). It is true that there is room for abuse. That's why we could, in theory limit that service to certain users (either by telling Rotatebot to do so or by setting up an AbuseFilter), which was not yet subject to discussion because
  1. usually we have users watching the log, Rotatebot produces, and revert vandalism.
  2. we do not have a lot of this kind of abuse.
Wikis with Extension:FlaggedRevs installed can't be "vandalized" that way. FlaggedRevs will make sure the visitor sees the last approved image version. If this is not possible/wanted on your homewiki and you still see an issue, we can
  1. add further edit restrictions (easy but unfriendly)
  2. add clutter to the rotate-user-interface citing our policy, which then also has to be translated (ugly)
  3. add an option to make it uploading to another file (nice but time consuming)
  4. somehow get more editors checking the log
  5. add more delay until the rotations are done by the bot and hoping that users will review this category and remove invalid requests.
Personally, I do not think that this issue is specifically to Rotatebot; files can be overwritten by any autoconfirmed user with nearly anything, including rotated versions. -- Rillke(q?) 12:37, 28 August 2013 (UTC)
Understood. I did, of course, realise that undesirable complexity via tighter protocols would be implicit. The problem is that, as I spend most of my time on English Wikipedia, the notification system doesn't carry across various wikis/wikas (in fact, I've only just traced down your response by going over my watchlist: now inter-wiki notifications is something that could do with being addressed!).
Due to a substantial portion of my contributions surrounding Eastern European/Slavic issues (did I just hear you scurry away from the monitor gibbering?), more time is spent in trying to protect or semi-protect pages, revert vandalism & act as an arbitrator between warring factions than goes into developing articles. It appears that blocked 'interested parties' have found a new way of making political statements which are more difficult & take longer to detect than their previous 'contributions'. I've traced down the culprit (who happened to be the one who added the upside-down comment in the Russian Wikipedia) & deleted the image comment he'd snuck into their article. Images in articles end up becoming part of the furniture & one doesn't pay too much attention to any edits involving them as they're typically aesthetic moves.
Sigh. As a matter of wiki-principle, I just have to accept that I have to accept it as another issue on top of my watchlist, although I'll look into the flagged reverts as an option. I certainly don't like the idea of uploading another version of the file as one file means I can intervene quickly if other pages linked to it have been vandalised.
Cheers for taking time out to clarify! --Iryna Harpy (talk) 04:37, 29 August 2013 (UTC)
Flagged revs stands for flagged revisions, meaning that each revision gets a "flag" such as "good enough for showing to visitors". The separate file option was directed to users who want to alter the image, not for those who clean up that "vandalism" :-) -- Rillke(q?) 09:38, 29 August 2013 (UTC)
