Invitation to Organize Wiki Loves Love 2019[edit]

Wiki Loves Love (WLL) is an International photography competition of Wikimedia Commons to subject love testimonials happening in the month of February 2019.

The primary goal of the competition is to document love testimonials through human cultural diversity such as monuments, ceremonies, snapshot of tender gesture, and miscellaneous objects used as symbol of love; to illustrate articles in the worldwide free encyclopedia Wikipedia, and other Wikimedia Foundation (WMF) projects. February is around the corner and Wiki Loves Love team invites you to organize and promote WLL19 in your country and join hands with us to celebrate love and document it on Wikimedia Commons. The theme of 2019 is Festivals, ceremonies and celebrations of love.

To organize Wiki Loves Love in your region, sign up at WLL Organizers page. You can also simply support and spread love by helping us translate the commons page in your local language which is open for translation.

The contest starts runs from 1-28 February 2019. Independent from if there is a local contest organised in your country, you can help by making the photo contest Wiki Loves Love more accessible and available to more people in the world by translating the upload wizard, templates and pages to your local language. See for an overview of templates/pages to be translated at our Translations page.

Imagine...The sum of all love!

WLL organizers[edit]

I represent NGO «Creative Elite of Ukraine» (CEU) and the CEU want to take part in WLL 2019 organization (press-conference for media, national juri, national prize, etc).

The CEU is not an affiliated organization to WMF. Is it possible for us to take part in WLL 2019 organization? --Perohanych (talk) 18:43, 13 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello @Perohanych: , thank you for proposing your help. This is warmly welcome! It would be perfect if you could contact us at WikiLovesLove@gmail.com, possibly with WMUA in copy, so we could coordinate efforts better. If you could associate the process with two proefficient Wikimedians, it would be even better.
I don't know Creative Elite of Ukraine, so a bit of background would be nice. What does it promote generally? Does its goals overlaps those of WLL in some manner?
Whatever you plane to do is an appreciated help, as long as your communications stay compatible with WLL aims and Wikimedian foundation values, something less likely to happen with a recognized affiliate.
Cheers, Psychoslave (talk) 17:52, 14 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hello @Psychoslave: , thank you for your quick answer.
It was me, who 10 years ago came with an idea and organized WMUA. I was CEO of WMUA till 2014 and now I am an ordinary member of WMUA. In 2018 I organized CEU NGO, which in its aim and objectives has much commom with WMUA, including:
  • Supporting the creation and development of wiki-based projects which permit the editing of content by all authorized users.
  • Supporting publication and granting access through the Internet to content created within the framework of specific projects on the basis of free licenses as of the type GNU Free Documentation License issued by the Free Software Foundation.
  • Popularizing Ukrainian language Internet projects of Wikimedia Foundation, Inc. such as Wikipedia, Wiktionary, Wikiquote, Wikinews, Wikibooks, Wikisource, Wikiversity, Wikispecies, Wikimedia Commons and others.
WLL aims and Wikimedian foundation values do not stipulate any monopoly on promoting the formation and development of equal opportunity for all in creating, accessing, utilizing and sharing information and knowledge, and to thus enable individuals and communities in reaching their full potential. --Perohanych (talk) 18:49, 14 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hello @Perohanych: ! Thank you for reaching out to Romaine! We appreciate it and would love to collaborate with your organisation for Wiki Loves Love! Feel free to share your plans on WikiLovesLove@gmail.com or my usertalk page regarding the details of the contest. Since you want to organise it from Ukraine, please go through this link for the required translations and landing page. Feel free to reach out to Romaine for template assistance. Lots of Wiki Love! Afbeeldingen Nieuwjaarsbijeenkomst[edit]

Hoi, Romaine.

Groetjes - Romaine (talk) 15:11, 15 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I don't have the Northern Sami translations for the first and third one yet (and the second one might be incorrect), but I will provide them later. But could you please create these messages for us? :-) Jon Harald Søby (WMNO) (talk) 13:27, 9 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Jon Harald Søby (WMNO), Just implemented the texts, when you have the two missing translations, just let me know.
Let us put a reminder: the Learn more-link does not get automatically updated next year, as MediaWiki messages usually do not have years in them, so next year we need to think of this again. Romaine (talk) 06:12, 14 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much! And yes, I'll try to remember that for next year if we continue with this category. :-) Jon Harald Søby (WMNO) (talk) 08:35, 14 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I added the two missing Northern Sámi terms now, and also changed the third (middle) one a little bit. :-) Jon Harald Søby (WMNO) (talk) 13:52, 15 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Implemented! Checking for other missing texts I notice that all the WLM custom texts for the upload wizard are not yet translated to Northern Sami. See: Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2019/Upload_campaigns#Steps. Can you ask speakers of that language to provide translations? Thanks! Romaine (talk) 22:45, 15 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you! Yeah, I'll try and get those translations too in time (hopefully they will be exported from Translatewiki before WLM starts). Jon Harald Søby (WMNO) (talk) 07:42, 17 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Jon Harald Søby (WMNO), What you mean with exported from Translatewiki? For WLM we do not use Translatewiki for the WLM related translations, so far I know those texts are not in there, it is just a matter of creating the templates + one system message (all linked on the page). If creating translations is too hard, adding it to the talk page I linked will be sufficiently and I will implement it. Greetings - Romaine (talk) 07:49, 17 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Most (all?) of the UploadWizard extension has not been translated into Northern Sami yet, so we need more than just the WLM messages. But yeah, I'm aware of all the WLM-spesific stuff too – sorry if my message was confusing. :) Jon Harald Søby (WMNO) (talk) 08:08, 17 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

WLM Australia[edit]

Hi Romanine,

Australia will be doing WLM once again. Hoping I've done at Commons:Wiki Loves Monuments 2019 in Australia everything correctly. Bidgee (talk) 16:12, 17 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Bidgee, Yes, everything seems in order so far I can see. Something you can do is making the look and feel of the page a little bit more attractive to the participants. See for example this example. Greetings - Romaine (talk) 10:24, 27 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

wlm-np[edit]

Hello Romaine, Nepal is again participating this year in WLM. I am afraid to break things. Will you please update upload wizard campaign? Hi Tulsi Bhagat, Updated!
Will there be a landing page in Nepali too? I mean, will you translate the landing page to Nepali? Greetings - Romaine (talk) 17:31, 30 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I would consult first with the team if they want the landing page in Nepali. Thank you for updating the upload wizard! Kind regards, — Tulsi Bhagat (contribs | talk) 03:09, 31 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

WLM-de[edit]

Hey Romaine, it would be great, if you could also take care of the german wlm-uploaders, since there is currently nobody amoung the organizeres, who has experience with that. Please contact me, if you need any input or informations. // Martin K. (talk) 14:28, 31 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Martin K., So far I know everything is working for Germany, earlier I updated everything to 2019. At least, this concerns the on-wiki technical infrastructure including the special upload campaigns. About the bots and tools used in previous years I have not the knowledge, and this includes the bot/tool that insert images in lists. (As I indicated in earlier years this automatic insertion is problematic as a human review makes sure the info is accurate and right.) Greetings - Romaine (talk) 15:43, 31 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Same thing with the banner. Do you know how takes care of them? This years landing page ist here. // Martin K. (talk) 15:42, 31 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Martin K., Yes, easy to do, will do so. Romaine (talk) 15:44, 31 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks a lot. // Martin K. (talk) 18:23, 31 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hey @Romaine: , can you check that all the banners displayed on mobile also point to the mobile version of the corresponding Wiki (not the desctop one)? This ist really important to deliver the users a good experience on the Landingpages. Thanks! // Martin K. (talk) 14:07, 1 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

wml-es-eus, wml-fr-eus[edit]

Hi Romaine, why have you reverted my edits? I've changed that by request of the organizer of the eus contest, Galder.-- Darwin Ahoy! 14:29, 31 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi DarwIn, I explained it on User_talk:DarwIn#WLM_changes. If you let me know where I can find the request or where I can find Galder, I can also there explain why it is not such a good idea. Greetings - Romaine (talk) 14:46, 31 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
He's at the Commons group at Telegram. I've been one of those asking for the possibility to deactivate SC entirely for WLM - actually, contrary to my expectations, SC has been mostly a nuisance at Commons, and not an helpful thing, so I would deactivate it for me entirely, at least for the moment - so you'll not get any argument from me to keep that thing optional. But the captions alone can be pre filled from the upload URL, and the statements stuff don't seem to appear there when it is deactivated. But those captions are just redundant stuff with the description, so now point in keeping them there.-- Darwin Ahoy! 18:13, 31 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Wiki Loves Monuments France 2019[edit]

Bonjour,

Template:Wiki Loves Monuments 2019[edit]

Hi, I'm an admin for the Irish Wikipedia. We would like to have the banner in Irish for Wiki Loves Monuments 2019 corrected to read as follows: Is breá le Wiki séadchomharthaí: tóg pictiúr de shéadchomhartha, cabhraigh leis an Vicipéid agus buaigh! This includes the portion that some wikis have left in English: Wiki loves monuments ( = Is breá le Wiki séadchomharthaí). If you choose to leave that in English, fine. I know it's a bit late. I tried earlier to find a way to correct it as I had done to similar banners in the somewhat distant past, but didn't know how. One of our best editors has complained and he is right, so I would appreciate your changing it. Best regards! SeoMac (talk) 04:49, 25 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi SeoMac, Done Implemented for the banner and added to Commons:Wiki Loves Monuments 2019/CentralNotice.
I am not able to decide for your language, as it is to speakers of the language to decide it. Besides the banner, all/most other places where translations in Irish are used are mentioned here: Commons:Wiki Loves Monuments 2019/Upload campaigns. Thank you for contributing to Wiki Loves Monuments UK 2019![edit]

Hi

Thank you so much for contributing to the UK section of this year's Wiki Loves Monuments contest, which finished yesterday. We really do appreciate the time and effort you've put in to record the UK's built cultural heritage for future generations.

Your contribution has been been added to our collections here on Wikimedia Commons, and is already available for editors to make use of on Wikipedia and elsewhere. It has also been entered into this year's contest. If you'd like to see your own images, just click on the uploads link at the top right of this page (if you don't see it, click on the Log in option first).

We've received over 10,000 UK entries this year, and it will take a few weeks for our volunteers and professional judges to decide on the final top 10. The winners will be announced by the end of this month, both here on Wikimedia Commons and also on the competition website.

The top 10 UK images will go forward to the international section where they will compete against winners from some 50 other countries. The international winners should be announced here in December.

Don't forget, by the way, that if you're hoping to win a prize in the contest it's essential that you have enabled email in your Wikimedia preferences. If you haven't, you're not eligible to win. If you're unsure, please check here.

Once again, many thanks for your help! MichaelMaggs (talk) 15:58, 2 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Veldkruis in De Hut[edit]

Romaine (talk) 18:09, 3 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Google Code-In 2019 is coming - please mentor some documentation tasks![edit]

Hello,

Google Code-In, Google-organized contest in which the Wikimedia Foundation participates, starts in a few weeks. This contest is about taking high school students into the world of opensource. I'm sending you this message because you recently edited a documentation page at Wikimedia Commons.

I would like to ask you to take part in Google Code-In as a mentor. That would mean to prepare at least one task (it can be documentation related, or something else - the other categories are Code, Design, Quality Assurance and Outreach) for the participants, and help the student to complete it. Please sign up at the contest page and send us your Google account address to google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org, so we can invite you in!

From my own experience, Google Code-In can be fun, you can make several new friends, attract new people to your wiki and make them part of your community.

If you have any questions, please let us know at google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org.

Thank you!

Hello Romaine, I've updated the upload wizard a bit for COM:WLL20. I've added a dropdown for selecting country, but it's not working as expected. Would you mind to check/test it? Thank you for your consideration! Kind regards, — Tulsi Bhagat (contribs | talk) 15:53, 27 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Steinsplitter fixed it. Kind regards, — Tulsi Bhagat (contribs | talk) 05:08, 29 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
