Hello, Plucas58!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

File:Alexander_Beresford-Hope.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. It has been found that you've added in the image's description only a Template that's not a license and although it provides useful information about the image, it's not a valid license. Could you please resolve this problem, adding the license in the image linked above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. This page may give you more hints on which license to choose. Thank you.

There are many many caricatures by Spy on Wikimedia Commons. What is so special about this one? Plucas58 (talk) 21:18, 29 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Tenerife Air Disaster[edit]

Hi! I see you're the original uploader of File:Tenerife Air Disaster memorial.JPG and File:Tenerife Air Disaster garden.JPG. The first time I came across one of these images (which was here), I was a bit puzzled, since I mentally linked Tenerife Air Disaster with w:en:Tenerife airport disaster. The names of the images are not wrong, but they might be confusing. Would you object if the images were renamed to, for instance, Dan-Air Flight 1008 memorial or something like that? Richard 09:23, 19 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Rename them by all means but as far as Manchester is concerned the Dan-Air disaster was THE disaster. I would have preferred to using the date as a distinguishing feature rather than the flight number, but having used one of the images in the relevant articles the actual image name is less important. So I am happy to give you a free hand to rename them.Plucas58 (talk) 11:35, 19 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! I'll start renaming procedures for both files. Richard 14:57, 19 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
PS: I'll request the names Tenerife Dan-Air Disaster memorial and Tenerife Dan-Air Disaster memorial. That eliminates the confusion and keeps Tenerife in the names. Richard 14:59, 19 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds like a fair solution.Plucas58 (talk) 18:49, 19 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Is there any reason you removed the Listed building Wales template from this image? You didn't leave any edit summary. --Lewis Hulbert (talk) 20:19, 12 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The template is already in the category - If its in both the individual images are shown unnecessarily when you display the Listed buildings of Neath Port Talbot. By all means restore it if you wish.Plucas58 (talk) 20:26, 12 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
That makes sense, I just wasn't sure whether it was intentional or not. I'll try not to add redundant templates in the future. --Lewis Hulbert (talk) 04:34, 13 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

George_Biddell_Airy_by_Spy.jpg[edit]

Hi, I see that you are the uploader of https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:George_Biddell_Airy_by_Spy.jpg . The signature is clearly Ape, please add information why Ward would have signed as Ape as opposed to Spy, or reclassify as a caricature by Ape. cc-by-sa-2.5 on modified Geograph image[edit]

I notice that you've just uploaded File:Kinpurnie Tower-geograph-3189161.jpg and tagged it both with Geograph (which includes ) and . What is your intention in adding , which is not a licence offered by the original author? --bjh21 (talk) 12:48, 23 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I had no such intention. Bit of a cock-up during the copying process. 2.0 is not an allowed option in the Upload Wizard so one is forced to use 2.5Plucas58 (talk) 12:57, 23 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

OK, and thanks for fixing it. The Upload Wizard doesn't restrict you to the set of licences in its list: you can choose "Another reason not mentioned above" and then put the Geograph template, or , or any other copyright tag in the box. --bjh21 (talk) 19:30, 23 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Listed buildings in Liverpool[edit]

Not sure why you're downloading tiny, crappy images from Geograph when I have spent the last five years or so actually providing much better photos of listed buildings in Liverpool, most of which are also used by Historic England. See, for example, 25 Church Street, Liverpool. If there's a good reason for this, I'd love to hear it. Rodhullandemu (talk) 21:07, 25 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi- There isn't a good reason but the bad reason is that I didn't know your pictures were there. In my experience if pictures are missing from list articles it's because they are not available in Commons. If it's any consolation I was reviewing the image availability (having by now discovered them) when I got your message. I must say that your photos of the Liverpool 1 landmarks are truly amazing.Plucas58 (talk) 10:48, 26 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

OK, I understand now. I was going to do 98 and 120 - 124 Duke Street today but it's a miserable and cold. Thanks for the appreciation, I've recently uploaded by 200th Valued Image and am heading for my 100th Quality Image so I must be doing something right! Again, thanks for your work on en:wp:Listed Buildings in Liverpool-L1, it badly needed sorting out. Cheers. Rodhullandemu (talk) 10:53, 26 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I wouldn't trust Historic England's knowledge of postcode areas, which may have changed since the building was listed anyway. Royal Mail have Laurel Road firmly in Liverpool 7. Cheers. Rodhullandemu (talk) 16:28, 25 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
