There seems to be a problem regarding the description and or licensing of this particular file. Could you please resolve these problems, which are described on the page linked in above? Thank you. --Orgullomoore 13:36, 21 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The reason your image(s) have been tagged is stated in the welcome message above. That is, Add a copyright tag - images without an appropriate license tag will be deleted. I believe the tag you're looking for is GFDL or GFDL-self.--Orgullomoore 13:58, 23 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I have changed the tag in GFDL-self, sorry for the mistake. --Nikater 15:29, 23 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Image:Wohngebiet-Yavapai.png[edit]

Hey, I'm doing the article on the Yavapai people now, and came across your map. Could you translate the title of it for me and tell me exactly what the map is showing? Danke! Murderbike 22:58, 23 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, the red line marks the former territory of the Yavapais and the right black spot is their reservation today (Camp Verde). The yellow line marks their trail of tears in 1875 from Camp Verde (Cottonwood today) to the San Carlos Reservation. The title is: Former territory and today's reservation of the Yavapais.--Nikater 16:13, 25 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks a lot! You know that there are three different Yavapai reservations, right? Proust! Murderbike 03:27, 31 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Copyrightfreie Karten[edit]

--Nikater 21:27, 17 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Republic of Lakotah map[edit]

Hi Nikater, would you consider doing a map for en:Republic of Lakotah, maybe based on your Images:Sioux01.png? The boundaries of what the Movement claims are well-defined here and the Sioux01 map stops just east of their claimed western border, the en:Treaty of Fort Laramie (1851) boundary; if possible can you overlay the reservations, the traditional land and the treaty boundary? If not, it's OK but at the moment we have three maps where one will do.

Also note that the en:Lakota people claim the en:Black Hills as part of their traditional territory; they inhabited the land at the time the US showed up but probably not for too long before that.

Thanks, Stlemur 03:31, 14 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Mapmaking hints and tips[edit]

I've seen your work, such as Image:Sioux-Aufstand.png and many others. I want to do something similar using demis... see Commons:Graphics_village_pump/January_2008#Topographical_background_maps ... if you have any hints or tips to share that would be great! Do you use the Demis flash app to get your raw data or are you doing it a different way? Thanks for any suggestions! ++Lar: t/c 03:36, 28 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Lar, I've seen you can understand some German - so I answer in German, it's easier for me: Ja, ich verwende Demis flash support von hier [1], zoom die Karte mit den richtigen Einstellungen, also ohne Orte, Straßen usw., und drucke sie auf Fotopapier aus. Dann mache ich einen scan davon und bearbeite ihn schließlich mit Adobe Photoshop. Gruesse --Nikater 08:40, 28 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Viele dank! Habt sie gesehen dieser seite? ++Lar: t/c 12:05, 29 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Your maps[edit]

Your maps of traditional indigenous territory are awesome. I can't find a map-maker's barnstar, or I'd give you one. Keep up the good work. - Themightyquill 19:26, 1 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Your Lenape Map[edit]

Hi, I am working on the entry for "Delaware languages". Your map of Delaware territory on the "Lenape" page is more informative than the one on the "Delaware Languages" page, so I would like to copy your map and substitute it for the one on the Delaware languages page. I gather you have given the appropriate licence for this map, and assume you are okay with someone copy and pasting it (I am still trying to figure out the procedure but it can't be too hard, any tips would be appreciated).

Thanks.

John

Katzie map[edit]

Hi - Image:Katzie.png needs amendment - please see Katzie territorial claim map on this page on their website. Thanks.Skookum1 (talk) 04:27, 26 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Duwamish map[edit]

Hi; I added a caption explaining your use of colour on Duwamish.png, but I wanted to let you know you've reversed the Lummi and Nooksack reservations; the Nooksack are the ones inland, the Lummi are the ones on the point where you've got the Nooksack marked. Swinomish I think are also Lower Skagit, I'll check. Also before someone else complains (I'm not) is there a way you can amend the map so the English spelling of "Canada" is used?Skookum1 (talk) 05:42, 26 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Nikater!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Maps of First Nations' Territories in British Columbia[edit]

Hello and thanks very much for sharing your maps and images. Can you please describe your sources for some of the First Nations' territories on your maps. Some of them appear to be from Statement of Intent boundaries submitted to the British Columbia Treaty Commission but others are not. The ones I am particularly interested in are the Esquimalt, Katzie, Kwikwetlem, Lekwiltok, Musqueam, Pentlach, Qayqayt, Qualicum, Saanich, Sechelt, Sliammon, Songhees, Sooke, Squamish, and Tsawwassen territorial boundaries. These boundaries are either different from those I have seen before or they are boundaries I have not seen anywhere. Any information you can provide would be most appreciated. Vielen Dank --Machuje (talk) 19:09, 29 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, the most of these boundaries I got from this adress: [2]. For example the tribal territory of Esquimalt First Nation is from this source: [3] --Nikater (talk) 12:50, 30 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much!--Machuje (talk) 19:34, 1 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi again, can you tell me what your source was for the Qayqayt territory map specifically? Is it also from the MoFR (BC Ministry of Forests and Range)? Thanks very much for your help!

Sorry, I can't find the source map again. It was described with "Treaty negotiations in BC - Statement of intent boundary - Qayqayt Indian Band." Also for Homalco Indian Band and Sliammon Indian Band.--Nikater (talk) 17:29, 4 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
That actually helps quite a bit. Thanks again.--Machuje (talk) 15:40, 5 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The Munsee language[edit]

Hi. Can you point me to the source you relied on when you created this map? I'm involved in an editorial dispute with another editor who insists that material based on that map is wrong. Thanks. Nightscream (talk) 17:37, 18 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, this is the source of the map "Delaware languages": Bruce G. Trigger (Hrsg.): Handbook of North American Indians. Vol. 15: Northeast, page 215. Smithsonian Institution Press, Washington D.C. 1978. ISBN 0-16004-575-4 --Nikater (talk) 09:36, 19 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hallo Nikater. Du hast dich als Urheber eingetragen, aber dort sollte eigentlich der (Original)urheber stehen. Ich kann den Namen ganz unten leider nicht lesen. Kennst du das Todesjahr dieser Person? Copyright[edit]

Hi Nikater: I am a photo researcher for a publisher of College textbooks. The author of this book is interested in including one of your maps. Though Wikimedia states that your maps are PD, we need a signed permission letter stating the same. (I found the Demi page that states their maps are PD, but I need signed confirmation that your edited maps are PD as well.) Could you please email me so that I can send you this permission letter? Thank you for your time!
