Pay attention to copyright
File:Jeremy-Thorpe.jpg has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.

The file you added has been deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you believe that the deletion was not in accordance with policy, you may request undeletion. (It is not necessary to request undeletion if using VRT; the file will be automatically restored at the conclusion of the process.)

Notification about possible deletion

Some contents have been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether they should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at their entry.

If you created these pages, please note that the fact that they have been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with them, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Affected:

AutoWikiBrowser access

Hi, AlbanGeller. I just gave you AutoWikiBrowser access. Sorry for delay. At first, during holidays I usually do not work, and I have never granted to anyone AWB access, so I needed at first to figure out, what's AWB and how to grant it to other users. Taivo (talk) 17:40, 22 April 2019 (UTC)

Autopatrol given

Hello. I just wanted to let you know that I have granted autopatrol rights to your account; the reason for this is that I believe you are sufficiently trustworthy and experienced to have your contributions automatically marked as "reviewed". This has no effect on your editing, it is simply intended to make it easier for users that are monitoring Recent changes or Recent uploads to find unproductive edits amidst the productive ones like yours. In addition, the Flickr upload feature and an increased number of batch-uploads in UploadWizard, uploading of freely licensed MP3 files, overwriting files uploaded by others and an increased limit for page renames per minute are now available to you. Thank you. 4nn1l2 (talk) 04:19, 16 July 2019 (UTC)

Thanks for this, 4nn1l2, much appreciated! Could you please also cross out the revisions for File:Stanley Baldwin ggbain.32267 (cropped).jpg from (and including) 22:01, 2 October 2018 to 14:28, 1 March 2019? These are the unfree derivatives cropped from previous revisions. AlbanGeller (talk) 04:26, 16 July 2019 (UTC)
Thanks again! AlbanGeller (talk) 04:35, 16 July 2019 (UTC)
(Edit conflict) ✓ Done. You can also add them to either Category:Media with unacceptable data in old versions or Category:Overwritten files requiring revision deletion and write in the edit summary which revisions should be deleted. I, as well as some other admins, usually review these categories on a daily basis. 4nn1l2 (talk) 04:39, 16 July 2019 (UTC)

Adding copyvio notes

Hello AlbanGeller,

You have added copyvio notes to File:Neville chamberlain1921.jpg and File:Herbert Samuel.JPG and maybe more files. I understand your point but they are not qulify for speedy deletion. Please start regular DR for them. -- Geagea (talk) 09:30, 17 July 2019 (UTC)

@Geagea: How don't they qualify? They are all copyrighted by UK law. AlbanGeller (talk) 09:34, 17 July 2019 (UTC)
Please read speedy deletion. That have to go through regular DR.-- Geagea (talk) 09:35, 17 July 2019 (UTC)
@Geagea: That I have. How do they not quality COM:CSD#F1? AlbanGeller (talk) 09:37, 17 July 2019 (UTC)
The files have license template which you think is not ok. F1 ia about licensing being issued by the copyright holder. -- Geagea (talk) 09:43, 17 July 2019 (UTC)
@Geagea: They were wrongly licenced. F1 should apply because the licensing issued by the copyright holder is CC-by-NC-ND making them {{Noncommercial}}. AlbanGeller (talk) 09:47, 17 July 2019 (UTC)
No. They are old file licened with {{PD-US}} in Commons (may be first published in US?). Please add your argument in DR page. We usually starting a DR for old files. -- Geagea (talk) 09:52, 17 July 2019 (UTC)
You can also use Mass deletion request for photographs of Walter Stoneman. -- Geagea (talk) 09:59, 17 July 2019 (UTC)
@Geagea: Where is the evidence that they were first published in the US? AlbanGeller (talk) 00:06, 18 July 2019 (UTC)
That is not the point. The point is that the deletion procedure is through regular deletion, not speedy deletion. -- Geagea (talk) 04:06, 18 July 2019 (UTC)

What are you talking about? Of course it was taken by them, otherwise how could they "transfer" it? Then, 50 years later, after it has been published all over the place, they give a copy to the NPG, who put it on their website with a spurious copyright claim, as they do to everything, regardless of the law. Removal of licenses

Hi, if you disagree with a license and you think there is a copyright problem, you may nominate a file for deletion. But please do not remove the license template. Jcb (talk) 16:25, 17 August 2019 (UTC)

Google Code-In 2019 is coming - please mentor some documentation tasks!

Hello,

Google Code-In, Google-organized contest in which the Wikimedia Foundation participates, starts in a few weeks. This contest is about taking high school students into the world of opensource. I'm sending you this message because you recently edited a documentation page at Wikimedia Commons.

I would like to ask you to take part in Google Code-In as a mentor. That would mean to prepare at least one task (it can be documentation related, or something else - the other categories are Code, Design, Quality Assurance and Outreach) for the participants, and help the student to complete it. Please sign up at the contest page and send us your Google account address to google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org, so we can invite you in!

From my own experience, Google Code-In can be fun, you can make several new friends, attract new people to your wiki and make them part of your community.

If you have any questions, please let us know at google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org.

Thank you!

Hi AlbanGeller, do you belong to the OTRS volunteers? If yes, please mark your userpage accordingly. If not, you shouldn't add an OTRS-ticket, or at least should let it confirmed by an OTRS volunteer. --Túrelio (talk) 08:14, 26 November 2019 (UTC)

George Sinclair image

Hi AlbanGeller, I have added a copyright notice on the image but am confused as to why the source tag was mentioned. The source is already listed as the Abingdon School archives. I think I also uploaded the file using the wizard and it did not indicate that I had missed anything at the time. Many thanks Racingmanager (talk) 10:46, 30 November 2019 (UTC)
