Our first steps help file and our FAQ will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy. You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Goodies, tips and tricks
  • Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your Graphics abilities.

  • Use the CommonSense tool to find good categories for your files (then other people can find them too!)

Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Hallo Mylius, was zeigt dieses von Dir stammende Bild denn nun? Das Steinernes Haus in Frankfurt oder doch Haus Saaleck in Köln? Beides gleichzeitig? :-o -- Ies (talk) 17:59, 12 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Huhu Ies, gut aufgepasst! Damals, als ich das Bild für den Steinernen Haus-Artikel eingestellt habe, hatte Haus Saaleck noch keinen eigenen Artikel. Ich vermute mal, dass der Irrtum hier begründet liegt, auch wenn ich das Bild nicht kategorisiert habe. Habe die Beschreibung und Kategorisierung mal überarbeitet, da es zwar mit der Historie des Steinernen Hauses zu tun hat, wie du sicher im Artikel gelesen hast, aber definitiv nur der Kategorie "Haus Saaleck" zuzurechnen ist. Hallo Mylius, das Bild wird in dem Ausstellungsheft "Zwischen Dom und Römerberg" des Instituts für Stadtgeschichte von 2006 als ein Bild von Fay aus dem Jahre 1903 ausgewiesen. Du hast völlig Recht, es stammt aus der Serie "Bilder aus dem alten Frankfurt am Main. Nach der Natur." von Fay, der nur für ältere Abbildungen auf Mylius zurückgriff. Das habe ich erst vor kurzem in Erfahrung gebracht. Da ich die Serie komplett im Original erwerben konnte, reiche ich die Original-Lichtdrucke in dieser Kategorie Stück für Stück nach. Moin, hier ist der Horst ;) Ich habe das von dir digitalisierte Aquarell der Alten Brücke von Frankfurt nochmalig als FP nominiert. Ob es diesmal wohl angenommen wird? Ich drücke die Daumen. Die wohl schönste Altstadtbrücke die meine Augen je erblicken durften, pittoresker selbst als die Prager Karlsbrücke. Wäre das nicht ein klasse Rekonstruktionsprojekt für die Zukunft? Hallo nochmal! Bislang läuft die Nominierung sehr gut, scheint durchzugehen. Auf der Nominierungsseite kam allerdings eine Rückfrage bzgl. der Qualität auf: "Very nice, except for peculiarly looking horizontal and vertical defect lines (see annotations). Could this be retouched, please. If so, I am ready to support. I noticed a significant CCW tilt of the tower to the left. This may be there in the orginal as well. Is it possible to verify that? Just looks peculiar because other man made structures seem to have almost perfect vertical lines. --Slaunger (Diskussion) 18:24, 31 January 2010 (UTC)".

Guck dir mal die Historie von diesem Slaunger an. Rosinenpicker wäre noch ein Euphemismus. Ich sehe gar nicht ein, auf so einen Blödsinn erst einzugehen. Natürlich sind die genannten vermeintlichen Makel schon im Nachdruck vorhanden (sonst hätte ich sie bei meinen Qualitätsansprüchen wohl auch kaum drin gelassen). Scheint in der Tat sehr pingelig zu sein der Mann. Im Übrigen top die Qualität mit der du hier historisches Material hochlädst. So umfangreich und qualitätvoll wie jenes von Frankfurt bekommt man hier wohl von keiner anderen Stadt, oder? Danke dafür. Mein Interesse für die Frankfurter Altstadt steigert sich u.a. dadurch zunehmend. Zwei Abhandlungen zum Thema sind bereits bestellt. Thank you for your contributions to Commons. I noticed you blanked Johanniterkirche (Frankfurt) on Commons. But blanking the page is not the right way to do this. I'd like to strongly recommend to use {{speedy|reason here}} and add it on top of the page; This way it will be placed on a special list that administrators check regulary for deletion. "achtzehnten" oder doch "achzehnten"?[edit]

Hallo Mylius, entweder gibt es hier auf Commons eine Menge Tippfehler, oder Kollege Aka hat in der de-Wikipedia eine falsche Korrektur vorgenommen. Wie sich der Originaltitel tatsächlich schreibt, konnte ich allein mit Google leider nicht zuverlässsig herausfinden. Zumindest nach der heutigen Rechtschreibung lässt man aber das t in "achtzehn" nicht weg (siehe z. B. Pons-Wörterbuch). Grüße -- Sprachpfleger (talk) 10:57, 2 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Bilder in Category:Virtuelles Altstadtmodell Frankfurt am Main[edit]

Hallo Mylius,

ich habe ein paar Fragen zu den Bildern in Category:Virtuelles Altstadtmodell Frankfurt am Main. Du hast diese als GNU FDL gekennzeichnet und als Autor Jörg Ott angegeben.

Ich habe als Admin auf Commons ein paar Fragen an Dich:

  • Bist Du Jörg Ott?

Wenn nein:

  • Ist die Software des virtuellen Altstadtmodell unter einer freien Lizenz freigegeben (z.B. GNU)?
  • Oder hast Du eine Freigabe von Jörg Ott um Bilder, die auf dem virtuellen Altstadtmodell basieren, unter einer freien Lizenz veröffentlichen zu können? In diesem Falle wäre eine Freigabe über Commons:OTRS notwendig.
  • Könntest Du, falls Du die erforderlichen Rechte an den Bildern besitzt (s.o.), die Bilder vielleicht noch zusätzlich unter einer anderen Lizenz also GNU FDL veröffentlichen? Z.B. einer freien CC-Lizenz. Dies würde die Verwendung der Bilder vereinfachen, weil somit nicht der komplette Text der GNU FDL mit abgedruckt werden muss.

Zu deinen Fragen: nein, ich bin nicht Jörg Ott. Das virtuelle Altstadtmodell ist nicht unter einer freien Lizenz freigegeben, es handelt sich um ein urheberrechtlich geschütztes Werk. Eine „Software“ als solche existiert nicht, da das Modell im Wesentlichen aus 3D Studio Max-Modulen besteht. Das Einverständnis von Jörg Ott, die Bilder explizit unter der genannten Lizenz zu veröffentlichen, liegt mir schriftlich vor. Eine andere Lizenz ist nicht gewünscht. Genügt es, eine E-Mail von Jörg Ott an das OTRS-System zu schicken? Auch wenn ich nicht verstehe, wo da der Unterschied zur bisherigen Lösung läge. --Mylius (talk) 08:56, 22 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Ich denke, dass es genügt die E-Mail von Jörg Ott an OTRS zu schicken. Ideal wäre natürlich, wenn Herr Ott dies selbst macht. Der Vorteil von solchen OTRS-Tickets ist, dass nachgeprüft werden kann, was tatsächlich in dieser Erlaubnis drin steht. Bilder ohne OTRS-Tickets mit Verdacht auf Urheberrechtsverletzung werden oftmals ohne große Nachfrage gelöscht oder sind zumindest Kandidaten für einen Löschantrag. Habe die Lizenz entsprechend abgeändert. Habe eine E-Mail von Michael Herl, nach der Bernd Kammerer mit der Nutzung des Fotos für die Illustration des Artikel in DE-WP einverstanden ist. Entsprechend habe ich eine Lizenz genommen, die eine kommerzielle Nutzung möglichst ausschließt. Wiki Loves Monuments 2014 startet in Kürze[edit]

Hallo Mylius,

in Kürze ist es wieder soweit. Der nun schon traditionelle Fotowettbewerb Wiki Loves Monuments wird im September zum vierten Mal stattfinden. In ähnlicher Form hatte unlängst der Wettbewerb "Wiki Loves Earth" eine erfolgreiche Premiere. Zu allen bisherigen vier Wettbewerben haben seit 2011 gut 3000 unterschiedliche Teilnehmer (User) ihren Beitrag geleistet. Du warst dabei, und bist auch herzlich eingeladen, am bevorstehenden WLM-Wettbewerb wieder dabei zu sein.

Allein in Deutschland wurden in den letzten drei Jahren im Rahmen von WLM rund 100.000 Fotos zu den insgesamt ca. 850.000 Kulturdenkmalen bundesweit hochgeladen. Jährlich haben sich mehrere Hundert Wiki-Fotographen daran beteiligt. Auch im kommenden Denkmalmonat wird dies gewiss wieder der Fall sein. Der Tag des offenen Denkmals am 14. September bietet bundesweit vielfältige Möglichkeiten, Denkmale nicht nur von außen, sondern auch von innen zu fotografieren. Denkmallisten sind dabei ein wichtiger Orientierungspunkt und zugleich auch Ziel der Einbindung der Fotos. Auch in diesem Jahr sind wieder neue Denkmallisten hinzugekommen, die hilfreich bei der Planung von individuellen oder Gruppen-Fototouren sind und auf eine Bebilderung warten, wie z.B. zu Görlitz oder Zittau. Unter den Landeshauptstädten fehlt nur noch Stuttgart. Aber auch hier ist Licht in Sicht.

In der Mitte Deutschlands hat die Denkmallandschaft der thüringischen Landeshauptstadt Erfurt nun das Licht der Wikipedia-Welt entdeckt. Mehr als 50 Tabellen enthalten 3.700 Denkmale. Allein die wunderschön restaurierte Altstadt umfasst 1.800 Denkmale. Eine von WMDE geförderte WLM-Fototour nach Erfurt am Wochenende vom 29. – 31. August lädt herzlich ein, diese einzigartige Kulturlandschaft zu dokumentieren. Mehr Informationen findest Du auf der Projektseite.

Der WLM-Countdown hat begonnen[edit]

Hallo Mylius,

nun ist es wieder soweit. Vom 1. bis zum 30. September findet zum fünften Mal der internationale Wettbewerb Wiki Loves Monuments statt. Im Mittelpunkt steht bekanntlich das Fotografieren von Kulturdenkmalen. Du hast an einem der letzten Fotowettbewerbe teilgenommen und wir freuen uns auf weitere Bildbeiträge von Dir.

Viele interessante Motive, nicht nur Burgen und Schlösser, sondern auch Fachwerkhäuser, Brücken und Brunnen, technische und Industriedenkmale und vieles mehr gibt es noch zu fotografieren, damit sie in der Wikipedia dokumentiert werden können. Nützliche Tipps findest du auf unserer WLM-Projektseite. Du kannst gerne individuell Fototouren durchführen oder aber Dich auch Gruppentouren anschließen. Besonders freuen wir uns auf Fotos, die Lücken in den Denkmallisten der Wikipedia ausfüllen.

Darüber hinaus kannst Du auch an der Arbeit der Jury teilnehmen, die Mitte Oktober die Fotos bewerten und die Gewinner ermitteln wird. Bis zum 15. August kannst du hier Deine Bewerbung einreichen.

Dort kannst Du andere Wikipedianer treffen, Erfahrungen austauschen, Projekte planen, Probleme besprechen, Tee oder Kaffee trinken und Veranstaltungen besuchen oder organisieren. Es gibt diverse PCs, ein offenes WLAN, eine Fotoausrüstung – die man auch ausleihen kann – und einen schnellen DIN-A3-Buchscanner. Darüber hinaus unternehmen wir regelmäßig Exkursionen und Wanderungen. Schau einfach mal unverbindlich vorbei. Kostet nix. Verpflichtet zu nix. Wir freuen uns auf Dich!

Important message for file movers[edit]

A community discussion has been closed where the consensus was to grant all file movers the suppressredirect user right. This will allow file movers to not leave behind a redirect when moving files and instead automatically have the original file name deleted. Policy never requires you to suppress the redirect, suppression of redirects is entirely optional.

Possible acceptable uses of this ability:

  • To move recently uploaded files with an obvious error in the file name where that error would not be a reasonable redirect. For example: moving "Sheep in a tree.jpg" to "Squirrel in a tree.jpg" when the image does in fact depict a squirrel.
  • To perform file name swaps.
  • When the original file name contains vandalism. (File renaming criterion #5)

Please note, this ability should be used only in certain circumstances and only if you are absolutely sure that it is not going to break the display of the file on any project. Redirects should never be suppressed if the file is in use on any project. When in doubt, leave a redirect. If you forget to suppress the redirect in case of file name vandalism or you are not fully certain if the original file name is actually vandalism, leave a redirect and tag the redirect for speedy deletion per G2.

The malicious or reckless breaking of file links via the suppressredirect user right is considered an abuse of the file mover right and is grounds for immediate revocation of that right. This message serves as both a notice that you have this right and as an official warning. Anfrage einer Bildlizenz (Carl Morgenstern, Blick auf Frankfurt am Main von Westen aus)[edit]

Hi Mylius,

ich arbeite für die Stadt Frankfurt/Main und bin auf der Suche nach einer guten Abbildung dieses Bildes von Carl Morgenstern. Dabei habe ich Ihre Datei hier gefunden. Wir bräuchten das Bild für ein nicht-kommerzielles Bildungsprodukt, und ich wollte mich hierfür nach Einzelheiten zu den Lizenzangaben (voller Name, etc.) erkundigen.

Ich freue mich über eine kurze Rückmeldung :)

Anfrage Bildnutzung[edit]

Lieber Roland Meinecke, für eine wissenschaftliche Publikation zur jüdischen Geschichte Frankfurts würden wir gerne Ihre Aufnahme der Westend-Synagoge (https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Westend-Synagoge#/media/Datei:Frankfurt_Am_Main-Westendsynagoge_von_Suedwesten-20120325.jpg) für das Cover verwenden. Laut dem verlag (De Gruyter) sind dafür die auf der Wikipedia-Seite angegebenen Lizenzen nicht geeignet. Die Copyleft-Lizenzen funktionieren nicht, weil das Cover nicht unter dieselbe Lizenz gestellt werdern kann, die Creative Commmons-Lizentz nicht, weil es sich ja fakrtisch um eine kommerzielle Nutzung hamndelt. Wir würden uns sehr freuen, wenn wir das Foto trotzdem benutzen könnten, natürlich unter voller Angabe Ihrer Autorenschaft. Ggf. müsste es auch minimal bearbeitet werden, etwa durch das Entfernen der Verkehrsschilder.
