Categorization

Hi Multichill. File:Apollo_11_map_notations.jpg and File:Differential_manchester_encoding.svg killes my bot. Wonder why... Maybe it's the "[[Category::" (2 x :) --MGA73 (talk) 14:55, 3 November 2009 (UTC)

That would be my best guess. Is not a valid page title so the bot throws an exception. Multichill (talk) 18:40, 3 November 2009 (UTC)

Language sorting

Hi. Concerning this, has Commons really decided to do this differently than en-wiki? Sorting by language code makes it really difficult to find correct language link as displayed links are not listed in alphabetical order. --Care (talk) 23:32, 3 November 2009 (UTC)

The standard at Commons is to sort by language code. Most projects sort this way, enwp is an exception. Multichill (talk) 09:21, 4 November 2009 (UTC)
Is this a policy or just a humble wish? En-wiki is not the only one using sorting by shown text so I cannot say it was an exception. --Care (talk) 14:13, 4 November 2009 (UTC)
Neither, it's the de facto standard. Multichill (talk) 14:21, 4 November 2009 (UTC)
I seriously doubt that as I am not the only user here using alphabetical sorting per shown language text (which is much more logical approach on this). --Care (talk) 21:30, 4 November 2009 (UTC)

Bot generated English village categories

Hi, as you can see in Special:UncategorizedCategories, there have been several bot generated bad categories (mainly <ref ... related). I plan to repair them all in the coming days. --Foroa (talk) 09:56, 13 November 2009 (UTC)

Yes, noticed a couple, had to wait for that page to update. At enwp they have a trick to detect and categorize these pages, will copy that trick to here. Multichill (talk) 10:02, 13 November 2009 (UTC)
Ok. I created [:Category:Commons:Citing errors]] to keep track of this. I removed the faulty references. Multichill (talk) 10:20, 13 November 2009 (UTC)

Photo on the cross

Hi. Tell me if the image of mortuary photo (on the cross) can be uploaded on Commons. The cemetery is a public place.Cezarika1 (talk) 10:11, 13 November 2009 (UTC)

You don't know¿ Cezarika1 (talk) 10:29, 13 November 2009 (UTC)
Sure, you can try asking things here instead of the Commons:Help desk, just don't expect a quick response. Depends on the country see Commons:Freedom of panorama. Multichill (talk) 10:32, 13 November 2009 (UTC)

Batch uploads

If you're interested, you can also try the Marine Corps website: http://www.marines.mil/news/Pages/photos.aspx

Though I noticed that requests past page 1000 won't pull properly for me, that's still a good 10,000 images. I also noticed that some of the images older than a few years will have both a high- and low-res image in the search results, so you'd have to make sure they weren't duplicated. Also, a few of the search results will probably be duplicates from the Navy batch uploads as well, but there shouldn't be too many of those. Bahamut0013 (talk) 00:25, 15 November 2009 (UTC)

This site is sure a possibility, but first have some other batch uploads to finish. Feel free to make a request for it and I'll probably upload all images. Multichill (talk) 21:57, 15 November 2009 (UTC)

I think the bot has a problem

The bot keep on adding the same thing to an article and it looks like it adds more lines each time it finds this article; see this edit. Snowmanradio (talk) 18:36, 16 November 2009 (UTC)

Seems to be due to the fact that {{Delete}} has been substed. –Tryphon 15:30, 17 November 2009 (UTC)
Right, thanks for fixing Tryphon, it slipped my mind. The stubstitution of {{Delete}} will give funny results. Multichill (talk) 17:44, 17 November 2009 (UTC)

Bot

Editing my user talk page is rather pointless since I don't frequent Commons. Can I be opted out? Howard the Duck (talk) 12:32, 17 November 2009 (UTC)

Pointless? You did see it right? No rush. ;-) Multichill (talk) 15:14, 17 November 2009 (UTC)

Looks like someone did that. Multichill (talk) 12:02, 18 November 2009 (UTC)

Categorizing unidentified Bryophyta

Please do not have your bot do this. As we use it on WP and here on Commons, "Bryophyta" is the division of mosses exclusively. It is therefore inappropriate to add the image to Category:Marchantiophyta, which is a separate group of plants. --EncycloPetey (talk) 04:20, 1 September 2009 (UTC)

This only happened because some user removed all categories. Multichill (talk) 12:05, 18 November 2009 (UTC)

Corrected. Thank you for the notice.--Outisnn (talk) 08:24, 2 September 2009 (UTC)

You're welcome. Multichill (talk) 12:06, 18 November 2009 (UTC)

Take me out of your spam list

If possible please take me out of your spam list. I don't need to know if one of my images is uncategorized. There should be a central opt out place or something with everyone and their dog having a spam bot running around. --Dori - Talk 22:53, 7 September 2009 (UTC)

How can I opt out of your spamming? Sorry, but I must regard your bot as illegal. We once had a vote on commons, that images should be either in a categorized gallery, or in a category. Now demanding that all images are in a category is a violation of this vote. Teun Spaans 04:01, 8 September 2009 (UTC)

And if the bot must leave these messages, how about a more concise message? I don't need 500 words explaining the categorization process (how about a link instead?) and a long list of languages etc. It's annoying. Jeff Dahl (talk) 14:25, 8 September 2009 (UTC)

Answering for Multichill (hope you don't mind): You can either just categorize the images (which is the better way) or put {{Nobots|deny=BotMultichillT}} on your talk page. --The Evil IP address (talk) 18:02, 8 September 2009 (UTC)
Hmm, I guess this was the backlog run ;-)
Thanks for answering. Multichill (talk) 12:09, 18 November 2009 (UTC)

A notice from your bot

Hi there!

Thanks for the work you do for commons, obviously it is good stuff.

I upload images to commons occasionally, and have no idea of how your categorization system works because it is a labyrinth and no matter what a new commons user does, is wrong. So I don't really try and trust the collaborative nature of a wiki to take care of looking over each other's work and those with more knowledge will help to advance the proper categorization of images.

Thanks for the bot notice, but I really don't plan on trying to figure out how to do something just to be told I'm wrong :) I don't mean that sarcastically, I'm serious. Let's work together to get the images where they should go. I was just answering a photosubmission OTRS template on the behalf of commons, I answer about 90% of your general email ;)

Happy wiki to you!

Keegan (talk) 05:56, 8 September 2009 (UTC)

I read your message, but never responded. You're not being told your wrong, you just got a message to please help out. Multichill (talk) 12:14, 18 November 2009 (UTC)

Fooled bot?

Doe's the bot go mad? [1] The image has 4 non-hidden categories. --ŠJů (talk) 06:11, 8 September 2009 (UTC)

I have to look into that one. My first guess is that the strange characters cause this somehow. I'll get back to you. Multichill (talk) 07:38, 8 September 2009 (UTC)
Ok, beats me. Probably a glitch. Haven't seen it anywhere else. Multichill (talk) 12:15, 18 November 2009 (UTC)

Bot should check existence of category

Hi Multichill,

I have reverted twice the edits of your bot in this and this image.

I added the cat already yesterday, today your bot added the cat too. I reverted and your bot added a second time. I reverted a second time. A funny play :)

I think your bot should check for existence of the cat in the image. Raymond 08:03, 8 September 2009 (UTC)

Was just a simple script to add {{Uncategorized}} to big pile of images only containing hidden categories but it ran into some race conditions (you!) ;-) Multichill (talk) 12:21, 18 November 2009 (UTC)

Please link images

Hello! I answer in Italian, then I get the English translation (google translgator) and I paste it in Wikipedia: the pictures that I have are used in the pages of Wikipedia: Industria (colonia romana) and Giovanni Vincenzo Cima, I will be associated with some class, but must first understand mechanism. Post scrittum: watching "edit" for each image, I understand that those on the link Industria (colonia romana) have already accompanied the link and the categories of membership (Category:Province of Turin; Monteu da Po; Industria; siti archeologici in Italia; Storia dell'Italia per regione; Antiche città); instead, the photograph Image: 9 noi.jpg is unnecessary and would be better to cancel it, as I can do? Thank you. --Sergio Sapetti (talk) 20:19, 8 September 2009 (UTC)

- The file Iseion_industria.jpg it is also connected to Monteu da Po. --SAPET (talk) 09:39, 10 September 2009 (UTC)

- The file Targa_bodincomacum.jpg now is categorized and it is linked to Lauriano --SAPET (talk) 15:17, 10 September 2009 (UTC)

Looks like one of my bots found some categories. Multichill (talk) 12:23, 18 November 2009 (UTC)

Lizenzänderungen Really great job

--Cwbm (commons) (talk) 19:30, 9 September 2009 (UTC)

I know my talk page was some sort of dumping ground the last couple of days, but are you sure you want to place this message here? Multichill (talk) 19:36, 9 September 2009 (UTC)

I'm sorry, that was really not meant for you. Just ignore it. But I was gonna write to you and tell you that it was a really good idea to find the old uncategorized pictures. But in contrast to what you said above this should be done maybe once a year or so. Some uncategorized pictures allways slip through so guess after a year you might have something of the order of a couple of thousand. One final question: why should the speedy delete not be a hidden cat? In my eyes it is a maintenance cat and as all maintenance cats it should be hidden. Cheers --Cwbm (commons) (talk) 19:43, 9 September 2009 (UTC)

(late reply) It could be hidden. Multichill (talk) 12:25, 18 November 2009 (UTC)

License change

Hi Multichill,

Thanks for your message. I hadn't noticed indeed that Commonist hadn't been updated. I've changed my license file. For the migration of my recently updated images to cc-by-sa-3.0 (and older and gfdl), can your bot do it ? That would be very helpful. Thanks Benjism89 (talk) 19:53, 9 September 2009 (UTC)

If I remember correctly all your images were changed. Multichill (talk) 12:27, 18 November 2009 (UTC)

Using ajax for templates translations

Hi, I would like to suggest script for loading translated templates using AJAX. Please see: MediaWiki talk:Common.js#Ajax translation of templates. Thanks, ערן (talk) 09:46, 12 September 2009 (UTC)

Sorry, didn't have the time to look into it. Not sure if this is the right way to go, but at least it's a nice try. Multichill (talk) 12:30, 18 November 2009 (UTC)

A review of mainly stamp images

Would you review Commons:Deletion requests/Images of Ghazipasha that has bee sitting around for quite a while. All the stamp images were previously deleted on the en wiki (where warnings were placed) before the uploader put them up here. Ww2censor (talk) 02:20, 14 September 2009 (UTC)

Deletion review is not something I do a lot, I see someone else took care of this. Multichill (talk) 12:31, 18 November 2009 (UTC)

Hi MultiChill I hope I have this right, the communication thingy seems a little obscure

I have stuck a [[category:..]] in the sections for the above image, but still cannot fathom the linking bit...

sorry if I am a bit vague (old age can be blamed). I would like to add several more new images especially of plants

Category looks ok to me. Multichill (talk) 12:33, 18 November 2009 (UTC)

Commons server loses categories during uploads today

All five images of this evening which I carefully categorized before uploading lost the categories during the upload. I had to add them manually again. In one case I wasn't quick enough - so for the first time one of my images had to pleasure to get a Multichill notice. --Iotatau (talk) 22:31, 18 September 2009 (UTC)

Nice to hear you like it ;-) Multichill (talk) 12:36, 18 November 2009 (UTC)

Please test stuff

Per: [3] can ya test the hell out of the new upload api, upload by URL, and if you're bored the fixes to file moves (try to get DB errors from moving/deleting/undeleting/partially undeleting files with missing versions). Splarka (talk) 04:30, 19 September 2009 (UTC)

Did some testing and filed some bugs. Will probably find more bugs and file more of them before it can be enabled here. Multichill (talk) 12:37, 18 November 2009 (UTC)

Witam serdecznie :)

Scout 21 18:55, 20 September 2009 (UTC)

No, that's not normal. In this run my bot had to do about 30.000 notifications if I remember correctly. This took more than a day. The normal run takes about an hour. Multichill (talk) 12:40, 18 November 2009 (UTC)

BotMultichillT: derived images

Hey Multichill, first of all thanks for running your bot for uncategorized images! Now it's found one of my images to be uncategorized (oops :o)), and this has made me think if you could add one more feature: When an uncategorized image links to "other versions" of the image, could the bot tentatively categorize it in all those categories? Sure, sometimes different versions are intentionally in different categories... but when we're talking about an uncategorized image, I guess chances are that such categories are the best bet (better even than bot-generated categories). Or is this scenario simply far too rare to even bother? ... What do you think? Cheers, Ibn Battuta (talk) 00:19, 22 September 2009 (UTC)

Hi Ibn Battuta, thanks for your suggestion. I'm afraid this doesn't happen a lot. When people make derivative versions they usually do this to use them in some Wikipedia article and this will probably give enough information for my bot. Multichill (talk) 12:42, 18 November 2009 (UTC)

Transfer images to Commons from fr.wikipedia

Hi Multichill,

I have just applied for a bot flag so that I can transfer images from fr.wikipedia to Commons, as I have done manually for a long time. I intend to do some transfers, after manual reviewing, using imagecopy.py. As I noticed that you bot does a lot of these transfers, particularly from nl.wikipedia, I was wondering whether you are using any other code for this task? Just so that I am using what is best.

Thanks, le Korrigan bla 09:41, 22 September 2009 (UTC)

I use and maintain imagecopy.py and try to use the strategy described at Commons:Moving to Commons. Multichill (talk) 12:43, 18 November 2009 (UTC)

Copy right violation

Hi Multichill, I noticed that the [4] which is uploaded here is taken from other websites. The uploader obtained it by googling. This is a copyright violation. When I checked the contributions by the uploader, User:Gantlet, I found that all his contributions are stolen from different commercial websites, which is obviously a copyright violation. His uploads are : [5], [6], [7], [8]. When copyright violation was reported, he changed the source and author to claim that all were his own work. Please check. Thank you, --Watchdog (talk) 00:44, 23 September 2009 (UTC)

As you might have noticed my talk page is probably not the best place to report copyright violations ;-) Multichill (talk) 12:44, 18 November 2009 (UTC)

Uncategorized pic

Uncategorized pic on 21 September 2009. Pic would be categorized, but commons "resisted", I tried at least 3 (three) times in period of 1 hour, but finally gave up, because if database is not in sync (or is having some other problem), how could I succeed? Take better care of server, and there would be less uncategorized pics ;-). SpeedyGonsales (talk) 21:46, 24 September 2009 (UTC)

Did you manage to get it categorized after all? Multichill (talk) 12:45, 18 November 2009 (UTC)

Category deletion

At Commons:Bots/Requests/Category-bot-helper, you offered to do the deletions. Most participants seem to assume that you would be doing it, so there wouldn't be any need. If you still plan to do so, would you file the necessary bot request or otherwise comment on it? -- User:Docu at 21:42, 1 October 2009 (UTC)

It would be nice if you explain what I have to rename exactly :-)
I understand it's about Category:Aircraft by registration, but how would for example Category:3X-GCM be named? Multichill (talk) 21:45, 1 October 2009 (UTC)
Once the discussion is through (and unless everybody changes his mind), we would have to add " (aircraft)" to all subcategories, for that one it would be Category:3X-GCM (aircraft). That being said, I wouldn't mind doing it myself. -- User:Docu at 21:48, 1 October 2009 (UTC), 21:49, 1 October 2009 (UTC)
Don't know how you did it, but looks good now :-) Multichill (talk) 12:49, 18 November 2009 (UTC)

Nobots

As you can see, there seems to be some abuse of Special:WhatLinksHere/Template:Bots in 850 files, so moves don't work anymore. Anything we can do about that ? --Foroa (talk) 16:38, 12 October 2009 (UTC)

It seems that most of the "nobots" are added by a few users. Maybe we could ask the users why they added nobots and tell them why it is a bad idea. --MGA73 (talk) 17:56, 12 October 2009 (UTC)
Looks like Rauenstein misused this feature. You could contact him. I can have a bot removed the template at these files. Multichill (talk) 19:36, 12 October 2009 (UTC)
I had my bot remove the template as it was clear abuse of this option. Multichill (talk) 09:34, 28 October 2009 (UTC)

Only bunnies are allowed to hop here

Please take a look at the history before you nominate an image. This file was vandalized multiple times. Multichill (talk) 21:49, 14 October 2009 (UTC)

I looked through all the history. None of the links go to the anime image, which therefore has no proper licensing and is a likely copyvio. Ty 01:07, 15 October 2009 (UTC)
Revision to the above. I checked out the author links, as I thought that's where the credit should be. I misunderstood that, as I see the image is already on Commons as File:Mahuri.jpg. However, it seems to be stated there as a derivative work: "Drawing of an anime character with the name "Mahuri", it combines design elements of Mahoro from Mahoromatic and Haruhi from Suzumiya Haruhi no Yūutsu." Ty 01:16, 15 October 2009 (UTC)
Was copied from here. You should respect the bunny. Multichill (talk) 13:04, 18 November 2009 (UTC)

Photochrom mass upload

On my talk page you said that the descriptions of the photochrom files can be updated after uploading. Upload-probleempje

Dag Multichill. Groet --Sonty567 (talk) 03:36, 19 October 2009 (UTC)

I experience exactly the same problem using different browsers (Opera and Mozilla): The categories I add using the "basic upload form" don't show up and I have to do a tedious second edit. I don't know if other forms experience similar problems. I experienced the problem the first time on Sep 23. The problem did not exist on Sep 16 and before. Maybe we should ask at the Village Pump if it is general. Nillerdk (talk) 10:03, 19 October 2009 (UTC)
Did you guys press "ok" in the categorization line? Sometimes users forget that. Multichill (talk) 18:45, 20 October 2009 (UTC)
Well at least the textbox turned into a blue link in those past cases. I just did a test upload but this time it worked... If it is still there, please delete File:Test please delete after 10 minutes - it is a duplicate.jpg. Nillerdk (talk) 04:44, 21 October 2009 (UTC)

Hello again! I had to upload another file and I made a screenshot before pressing the upload button. The category was not added. Can you have a look? What did I do wrong? File:Upload screen category not added.png‎. The category was also not added when uploading the screenshot. Nillerdk (talk) 14:39, 21 October 2009 (UTC)

(For some weird reason) my uploads are running smooth again, cats get included in the upload. I've no clue what the problem was.. --Sonty567 (talk) 03:42, 26 October 2009 (UTC)
I think we had a bug in one of the javascripts. Should be fixed by now. Multichill (talk) 13:10, 18 November 2009 (UTC)

Two Uncategorized images

Good day, whomever. Your bot left a message on my talk page about two images I have not categorized. If you look at the images you will see, "PLEASE DELETE". Too, when I saved that request I placed User Request on the SAVE also asking "please delete". Please DO delete those two images I uploaded because I learned later they are not in public domain. I do not have the authority to delete them. Thank you, William Maury Morris (talk) 17:50, 21 October 2009 (UTC)

Please don't use bold, colors or other things to get my attention. It just makes me skip messages. Multichill (talk) 13:15, 18 November 2009 (UTC)

Two Uncategorized Images # 2

I have requested, and am now requesting, that those two images be deleted including using "speedy delete with reason". I was told that the images are under copyright (1930) after I uploaded them. It is a medal from the "Hall Of Fame" in New York.

ABOVE this statement there is an older message asking for the same written by me.

Thank you for your attention to this situation, Sincerely, William Maury Morris (talk) 07:16, 23 October 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for your warning. The file image:Mersin Yenisehir.jpg has now a category. Althouh usually more than one category is used for the articles, I think one category is enough for a image file. Nedim Ardoğa (talk) 10:29, 25 October 2009 (UTC)

Categorias

The biggest problem is not upload images ... the existing hierarchy and that everything is in English ... I have hundreds of photographs on Flickr and I encourage you to upload them to Wikipedia ... because it takes a long time and then put in place to give a lot of work ... I hoped that other Wikipedians make good use of them, but now I have to study this category and to begin I need to translate this into your language ... I'll leave my reply in Spanish if it's worth it ...--dolmanrg (talk) 09:48, 26 October 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for your uploads! Categorization can be hard. My language is Dutch, you don't have to to use that ;-) Multichill (talk) 13:21, 18 November 2009 (UTC)

SarlatCasaBoétie

The category of File SarlatCasaBoétie.JPG seems to me to be the proper one. All other files that have been noticed to me as uncategorized, have been already categorized. With regards--K.Weise (talk) 09:41, 28 October 2009 (UTC)

Looks like some of them are categorized by one of my bots. Maybe you can mark the images as checked if the categories are correct? Multichill (talk) 13:22, 18 November 2009 (UTC)

Could you look to see if this edit was accurate? I don't think that person is an admin... I was trying to find out that image's license on nl-wiki, in #wikipedia-nl, and there was sort of a language barrier between myself and the admin in the room. They were very nice and helpful, and I'm very appreciative, but it would be nice if you could double check. Thank you very much! Killiondude (talk) 08:46, 1 November 2009 (UTC)

Bot-created towns & villages categories

I've just noticed your bot is creating towns & villages categories such as Category:Kirkby Lonsdale and I'm just curious why it doesn't provide a link to the relevant article, en:Kirkby Lonsdale (and all the other languages)? -- Dr Greg  talk  02:14, 16 November 2009 (UTC)

It does, 5 languages to be exact. Multichill (talk) 06:31, 16 November 2009 (UTC)

Sorry, I didn't explain myself clearly enough. It's minor point, but I'm suggesting that as well as the interwiki link in the left column, as the name "Kirby Lonsdale" appears explicitly on the page it might as well be wikilinked too. I.e. why "Kirkby Lonsdale" and not "[[:en:Kirkby Lonsdale|Kirkby Lonsdale]]" within the {{en}} description? (Although I don't how easy it would be to get the bot to recognise the phrase to be linked.) -- Dr Greg  talk  22:05, 17 November 2009 (UTC)

Lets look at the bright side. Those bot creations are better documented and interwiki'ed than most existing English location categories. I spend a couple of day on that and it is amazing how many pictures of the United Kingdom are waiting for a home category. This supports my idea that all geographic location categories should be bot generated as it would substantially improve documentation and categorisation while making it more natural for people to categorise their images without the need of know how for category creation, structuring and maintenance. So it should not only improve the categorisation backlog but it should improve categorisation quality of bots and Commonsense too. --Foroa (talk) 22:40, 17 November 2009 (UTC)
@Dr Greg : I just use sum-it-up to generate the descriptions.
@Foroa : I agree that generating this category trees (I also did Ireland) should improve the categorization quality on the long run. I created these trees because I'm planning to upload a lot of geograph images. Without these categories we would have a lot more manual work to do. I'm also thinking to generate trees for the top geopgraph categories so images are placed in the right category at upload. Multichill (talk) 10:28, 18 November 2009 (UTC)

Photos with wrong category Prosopis pallida

Hi, there are lots of photos in Category:Prosopis pallida that don't really belong there, since they don't show the tree. They are all from Forest and Kim Starr and were uploaded by your bot. Could you fix this? Thanks, AxelBoldt (talk) 17:37, 18 November 2009 (UTC)

Re:Commonist licenses

Category:Backford

Hi Multichill,

I think there may be something not right with the multimap link in Category:Backford. The category description is hidden and has been replaced with the number '14', but if I remove the multimap link and preview it, the description re-appears again.

Category:Files moved to Commons requiring review as of xxx

Hi Multichill. Do you know the reason why the categories like Category:Files moved to Commons requiring review as of 4 November 2009 do all have subcategories for en-WP and nl-WP, but not for other large WPs? --Leyo 15:00, 4 November 2009 (UTC)

Because I only created the subcats for enwp and nlwp. enwp because lot's of images are coming in each day, nlwp because I'm working on them myself. Other languages are of course possible. Multichill (talk) 15:10, 4 November 2009 (UTC)
Do you think subcats for de-WP would be worth it? It would be handy for me to have them, but I don't know if other users also would like to have them. --Leyo 16:24, 4 November 2009 (UTC)
There is only 1,605 images in Category:Files moved from de.wikipedia to Commons requiring review ;-) --MGA73 (talk) 20:13, 4 November 2009 (UTC)
I doubt if it's worth it, see the most crowded cats at this pastebin. Multichill (talk) 20:20, 4 November 2009 (UTC)
OK. 1605 images are still too many to recognize new files. :-) What about annual categories at least or a category for old cases? --Leyo 09:18, 5 November 2009 (UTC)
We could start spliting out per wiki for a couple of big wiki's at the start of 2010. Multichill (talk) 13:26, 18 November 2009 (UTC)
OK, good idea.
Is there a possibility to get annual lists with CatScan or another tool? --Leyo 09:35, 26 November 2009 (UTC)
With a database query you can get whatever list you want.
Shouldn't be too much work to clean out Category:Files moved from de.wikipedia to Commons requiring review with a couple of users. Maybe ask if some people in the Commons:Forum are willing to help? Multichill (talk) 09:50, 26 November 2009 (UTC)
File:RainierIII.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

I left a comment over there. Multichill (talk) 09:41, 26 November 2009 (UTC)

Dear Multichill, This photo was recently upload, due to a discussion about burial in Tibet. We all think it is not sure that this photo concern a burial practice, a simple notice on a postcard is not convincing anyone. It is also not supported by any publication that a dead (and dressed) body would be trown to dogs for burial in Tibet. My question is related to source : it is coming from here : http://www.tibetanpost.com/images/items/C/card0202.jpg (it is a site showing items for sale) Do you think such a source is permitted for wikimedia? Thanks in advance. --Rédacteur Tibet (talk) 17:36, 26 November 2009 (UTC)

Another question relative to Category:Burials in Tibet, I consider as unethical to show body of dead people File:Skeletonskyburial.jpg and File:Skyburial.JPG. Do you know about the corresponding policy on wikimedia relative to this issue ? All the best. --Rédacteur Tibet (talk) 17:44, 26 November 2009 (UTC)
File:Dead thrown to dogs (Tibbet).jpg appears to be {{PD-old}} so that's probably alright.
Never heard of Sky burials until today. Sound logical, although I wouldn't like to witness it myself. Why do you consider it unethical to show these images? You can't recognize the person because either the face is turned away or it's gone, so Commons:Photographs of identifiable people doesn't apply. Multichill (talk) 18:04, 26 November 2009 (UTC)
As a complement, see also Tower of Silence. There is a short screening in the film Kundun. Seeing death is always difficult. As for the ethical aspect, I think the image of body is a private mater, and we do not know whether these people would agree upon showing photograph of them, even if no face is identifiable. However, this is an ethical aspect, for the legal aspect, I don't know. What would happen if the family of the dead person would sue for this ? --Rédacteur Tibet (talk) 21:13, 26 November 2009 (UTC)

Dear Mutichill, The same photo was downloaded twice : here is the second version : File:Dead-thrown-to-dogs-(Tibet).jpg (with some personnal interpretation that I had to correct), I suppose it is too much? Shall wikimedia keep both? --Rédacteur Tibet (talk) 19:11, 27 November 2009 (UTC)

Upload form categories problem

Hi

Thanks for the message regarding categories from BotMultichillT. Here's the problem. When I use the new form and input all the info, I come to the categories entry, it reads: click on the (+) to add categories, which I do and nothing happens because on the new form, with a great collection of helpful notes at the top, the (+) is not highlighted in blue or anything to indicate the link has been or is activated. Would you have the new form fixed so I can add categories when I upload. Coming back again to add categories is a bit of a pain, I guess I got spoiled by the ease and helpfulness of the older form. Marshallsumter (talk) 00:06, 30 September 2009 (UTC)

Should be fixed now. Multichill (talk) 12:03, 18 November 2009 (UTC)

Hi

Yes, new form is great. But, I am putting categories on the form and they are not getting to the image file along with the image. Your bot BotMultichillT is correct in most cases; however, that's a lot of images to recategorize. I hope you can fix the transfer from the new form when categories are listed, which I have been doing, to the file. Thank you! Marshallsumter (talk) 19:10, 28 November 2009 (UTC)

Hi Multichill,

could you add all the categories in Category:Meta categories to User:Multichill/Category blacklist if this blacklist is still used? Cheers --Cwbm (commons) (talk) 09:57, 27 November 2009 (UTC)

No, a lot of useful categories in there. Multichill (talk) 10:31, 27 November 2009 (UTC)
Could you give an example, please. --Cwbm (commons) (talk) 11:37, 27 November 2009 (UTC)
Category:Bridges by country. Multichill (talk) 12:06, 27 November 2009 (UTC)
But what is the advantage to put the files into that cat instead of Category:Bridges? --Cwbm (commons) (talk) 09:20, 28 November 2009 (UTC)
The blacklist is to remove complete nonsense categories. Category:Bridges by country is not complete nonsense because files ending up in there should either be placed in the parent category or in one of it's childs (and that's another filter). Multichill (talk) 11:54, 28 November 2009 (UTC)

May I ask how the other filter works and if you could include the meta cats in that filter. Cheers --Cwbm (commons) (talk) 12:16, 29 November 2009 (UTC)

Temp categories

Hi Multichill! It seems there is same confusion everytime you use temporary categories. Perhaps you could use the name "temp" in the category names and/or have a standard message on top of every temporary category "This is a temporary category. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.

The file you added has been deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you believe that the deletion was not in accordance with policy, you may request undeletion. (It is not necessary to request undeletion if using VRT; the file will be automatically restored at the conclusion of the process.)

Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
