Croptool[edit]

--Ailura (talk) 09:42, 4 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

A barnstar for you[edit]

The Commons Barnstar
Thank you for your comprehensive coverage of outdoor NCAA and USATF track championships on Commons this year, complete with many new event-specific and athlete categories. The categories are extremely helpful! Habst (talk) 16:47, 27 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
This was the first barnstar I have ever given out. Would love to coordinate with you some time to improve coverage on the various Wikipedias, or if you have any thoughts / potential uses for the categories I'd love to hear them. Thanks again. --Habst (talk) 16:52, 27 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Hey Habst, thanks a lot for giving out your first ever banstar to me – I really appreciate it as I "only" imported pictures taken by someone else, although it of course was/is (still not finished yet) a lot of work to sort the pictures and of course create categories. Honestly I don't really know if there may be further potential uses for the categories – I mean anyone can search for pictures of those athletes and specific events now (even though the pictures itself are kind of unsorted because the numbering system the original author on flickr used apparently makes no sense), but that pretty much seems to be it. As for my activities on the various wikis there might be more than enough work for me here on commons right now as there are more albums on jenragon94's flickr (like USATF Indoors 2018, NCAA Indoors 2018, Olympic Trials 2016 etc) waiting to be imported. Apart from that I am mainly active on German wiki but like to do small edits on en.wikipedia too, as far as my language knowledge as non-native speaker is allowing it. Thanks again --Mondfeuer61 (talk) 19:39, 27 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Hey Mondfeuer61, of course. I think that unlike wikipedia where people directly read the articles, a lot of the work on Commons tends to be a thankless job so I really appreciate the structure. I found that user's CC-BY albums in May just doing searches and I think I might have been the first to upload one of those pictures on Commons -- it's a great resource and in the long run will likely yield the first freely licensed photos of many future Olympians. re: language, I think your English is fantastic but I do also think we could improve some athletics-related things to be more language-independent. I've been working on a bot that adds structured results from the IAAF site to Wikidata athletes, so ideally within a few months we should be able to have little templates like {{results from wikidata}} that we can just place in articles that autogenerate all of the performances from an athlete, sorted by year and wikilinked to the appropriate competition pages all taken from Wikidata. I'd love to help tackling the last few Flickr albums you mentioned too though -- I might do that some time this week. Hope to keep in touch and thanks for your work again. --Habst (talk) 05:04, 28 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Hey Habst, yes, those albums are a great find and it indeed might have been you by whom I found out (don't remember exactly, but there surely aren't many other users uploading from there). We really should hope Christina and Danielle Aaragon to be active for a long time remaining. As for the the remaining albums (I mean there might be a lot more left I we also go through regionals etc..): The whole job is quite boring from beginning to end, as there already is no option in Flickr2commons to mass rename files – most of the pics taken by jenragon94 are named like "<i></i> (41860424605).jpg", so I already spent some time to copy and paste the generic name (like "2018 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships (41860424605).jpg") to each file. Plus the whole categorising of course, which isn't really challenging, but takes a lot of time. So I'm not sure if someone like you with all the talents you got (I mean, who else would have written WikiTrackBot?) should waste your time on it, but after all it's your free time.
And yeah, I noticed some of the edits your bot made on Usain Bolt's wikidata item before, sounds like a great idea and a template would be a very comfortable way to include results indeed. Are you planning to create wikipedia pages for the specific events like 2017 Ostrava Golden Spike - Men's 100 metres before or is the template going to link to meet pages instead? (and I'm not sure, but shouldn't your bot rather use this: "–" instead of this: "-" dash? At least the first one seems to be generally used on event pages like 2017 World Championships in Athletics – Women's 100 metres). --Mondfeuer61 (talk) 12:38, 28 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Haha, as soon as I saw the username and Stanford albums I figured I knew whose parent that was. I'm not planning on creating Wikipedia pages for specific events at smaller meets -- the first version of my bot just linked to the big event pages, but some other users wanted all event-specific pages for the bot to be approved because it makes some statistical tasks easier so I had the bot create them. I've been messing with it all a little bit at w:User:Habst/sandbox/athresults and w:Module:Sandbox/Habst/Athletics results for now -- we could really have the template do anything but right now I'm just trying to get it to display the results and placings sorted by year and wikilinked to the most specific page we have. That's a shame with flickr2commons, I wonder if you could use a userscript to just regex find / replace on all of the filenames. And thanks for the reminder about the hyphen style -- personally I prefer keeping things all ASCII when possible, but because the long dash is standard here I just changed the bot to use the new style. --Habst (talk) 19:34, 28 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your explanations, the template already looks promising in your sandbox. I probably could use some kind of userscript or similar as I surely am not the first one with this problem, but honestly I wouldn't even know where to begin, so I will stick with my current method. It's a bit annoying but okay after all, creating categories is much more time consuming. --Mondfeuer61 (talk) 22:53, 28 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

More tennis photos[edit]

I saw you imported some photos by https://www.flickr.com/photos/demiace , are you willing to run flickr2commons again on the remaining sets? He said he intends to convert them to cc-by-sa. https://www.flickr.com/photos/demiace/42969963045/#comment72157677168962018 Nemo 12:51, 30 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Nemo bis: I imported most of the tennis related sets, but left out those which weren't taken by the owner of the flickr stream for now ([1][2][3][4][5]). They might be fine too as e.g. in this description it states "Senior Photographer, Mikhail Bezruchko mikhailbezruchko.zenfolio.com/ On assignment for www.Tennis-Bargains.com Copyright Tennis-Bargains.com. All rights reserved" (Tennis-Bargains belongs to JC}, but I'm not too sure. --Mondfeuer61 (talk) 21:56, 2 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Autopatrol given[edit]

Hello. I just wanted to let you know that I have granted autopatrol rights to your account; the reason for this is that I believe you are sufficiently trustworthy and experienced to have your contributions automatically marked as "reviewed". This has no effect on your editing, it is simply intended to make it easier for users that are monitoring Recent changes or Recent uploads to find unproductive edits amidst the productive ones like yours. In addition, the Flickr upload feature and an increased number of batch-uploads in UploadWizard, uploading of freely licensed MP3 files, overwriting files uploaded by others and an increased limit for page renames per minute are now available to you. Thank you. -- ~riley (talk) 00:37, 13 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, File:Pernille Blume.jpg, is a derivative work, containing an "image within an image". Examples of such works would include a photograph of a sculpture, a scan of a magazine cover, or a map that has been altered from the original. In each of these cases, the rights of the creator of the original must be considered, as well as those of the creator of the derivative work.

While the description page states who made this derivative work, it currently doesn't specify who created the original work, so the overall copyright status is unclear. If you did not create the original work depicted in this image, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright.

Please edit the file description and add the missing information, or the file may be deleted. If you created the original content yourself, enter this information as the source. If someone else created the content, the source should be the address to the web page where you found it, the name and ISBN of the book you scanned it from, or similar. You should also name the author, provide verifiable information to show that the content is in the public domain or has been published under a free license by its author, and add an appropriate template identifying the public domain or licensing status, if you have not already done so. Fragwürdige Lizenz[edit]

Hallo Mondfeuer61!

Danke! --Clemens Stockner (talk) 13:47, 1 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
