Check-in (Airports)

Hi, I don't think that "Check-in (Airports)" is a good name for a category. Maybe something like "Airport check-in counters" would be better. What do you think about it? Dantadd 13:11, 19 March 2007 (UTC)

The pattern is to use full terms (more natural expressions), such as "Sociologists of Germany" and not "Sociologists (Germany)". 13:57, 19 March 2007 (UTC)
The pattern at w:German Wikipedia is usually "... (specifiacation)" Mattes 14:04, 19 March 2007 (UTC)
In English it doesn't seem natural to me. Dantadd 14:36, 19 March 2007 (UTC)

Hi, a note to add that Image:ASG-Bedienungselement.jpg has been requested for deletion as well. I tried to fix these two up but they really can't be saved, unfortunately; some of your others I have been able to touch up a tad, though.  :) -- Editor at Largetalk 09:11, 22 March 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for your efforts! Regarding this pic: I will do a new and better one. BFN, -- Mattes 13:39, 22 March 2007 (UTC)

Speedydeletes

Hi Mattes. These two pages (User:Mattes/Gallery of data contributed/Part 2: Maps, Views & Logos. and User:Mattes/Gallery of data contributed/Part 3/ The Figures of History) in your userspace are tagged for speedydeletion. Do you want them deleted? FrancoGG ( talk ) 19:51, 29 March 2007 (UTC)

Yes, because another user (not Schimmelreiter) has created these pages without asking me before. I hope all pics are included in another gallery page of me. Mattes 21:03, 29 March 2007 (UTC)

Blurry/dark images

Hello again! I noticed a bunch more of your images were added to CAT:IFC because they are blurry or dark. Blurriness is a problem with the camera focusing, and is not something that can be fixed digitally: the only way to make a blurry picture better is to retake it. While minor tweaks can be made to sharpen slightly all it does is make the contrast between the pixels higher while the actual image remains blurred. Severely blurred images can't be fixed at all.

The same goes for severely dark images; while the lightness can be boosted they end up washed out, and if contrast is boosted as well in an attempt to keep the colour they end up being worse than the original. Some are just not salvageable because the data is not there, and no matter how much they're edited they can't be fixed up to encyclopedic quality. Or in some cases there are other pictures to better illustrate the subject.

As for what to do with unsalvageable ones, there are a few options. I can ...

  1. nominate for deletion through normal COM:DEL process, which takes a while and requires people to vote and come to a concensus;
  2. leave you a message here and you can add the speedy delete tag;
    2a. you can state here or on my talk page that I can nominate pictures that are not fixable for speedy deletion and I cite that when adding the speedy tag;
  3. I can delete myself if they can't be fixed, of course ensuring that only the hopeless images are deleted.

I am all for keeping images which are the only examples of their subjects, or images that are a bit dark or a bit blurry but still useable; but there are the odd unuseable ones that really can't be of any use. I always try to fix an image before considering it hopeless, so no useable images will be deleted. Whatever method you choose I'll go along with :) All the best, -- Editor at Largetalk 13:43, 2 April 2007 (UTC)

Hi Editor at Large! I agree that images of real bad quality should be deleted, but regarding images of a slightly bad quality theses images should be kept until a new pic exchanges it (commons is not stating that only professional and perfect images are saved up). Pictures which small mistakes are better than none... Some pictures from far away can't be replaced easily and some moments never.
OK, I will not place the ifc tag for blurry pictures anymore. I thought, theses errors could be repaired... Well, thanks again for your efforts. Sincerely, Mattes 16:10, 3 April 2007 (UTC)

About substing {{Mattes}}

Unmögliche Figur
Unmögliche Figur

Please see Commons:Village_pump/Archive/2007Jan#Personal_license_templates for the opinion on personalised templates. /Lokal_Profil 17:42, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

Well I don't see a problem with my template. The licence is readable by bots because it generates pd-self|Mattes as a category. Wikisource reads pd-self out of the template as well. Please wait before exchanging my template. BFN, Mattes 17:57, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
The problem is that if you or someone else changes the license in Mattes then the license will change on all images without this showing up in the image history. This was the main argument for why personal license templates should be substed. An alternative is to put everything in {{Mattes}} except the license into another template say User:Mattes/Mattes2. If Mattes is then cahnged to
{{User:Mattes/Mattes2}}
{{pd-self|Mattes}}
Then you can uses a substed version of {{Mattes}} to tag you're images but you'll still have User:Mattes/Mattes2 in case you want to globally change you're contact details. /Lokal_Profil 18:27, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
I've moved the contact details to User:Mattes/Mattes2 so that {{Mattes}} can be substed. Unless you have any major objections to this I will start the substing process soon. /Lokal_Profil 17:02, 25 May 2007 (UTC)

License concerns

Hi Mattes. I took a look at your license template Template:Mattes and I'm concerned that you may have misunderstandings about the ramification of the license. In particular, you place this text in your license: "If you use this image outside of the Wikimedia projects, I'd be happy to hear from you. If you want a license with the conditions of your choice, please email me to negotiate terms." However, the PD-self image already allows anyone, not just in Wikimedia projects, to use your image in any way they please. The attribution license is the same except that it requires only that they give you credit as the author. In other words, it's pointless to make this request, because you've already given these people permission to use your images as they please. We don't allow licenses on Commons that only give permission to use the images on Wikimedia projects, because we wish to distribute our content to others for their own use.

Also, it's confusing to use two licenses on a single template with a condition establishing which is used. I think the best way to clarify this would be to go back and subst all the images prior to the given date with the PD-self license, then remove it from your template. It would be best if you subst your template all the time, to ensure that the license is not revoked in an undetectable way, since licenses cannot be revoked.

--Timo Beil 23:48, 2 June 2007 (UTC)

Source for Image:David gegen Goliath.jpg?

Sorry, switching to englisch ... (I do not think Babelfish did a very good job with that last phrase. Even to my unpracticed eye it looks clumsy.) If you remember where you originally saw that picture, I would appreciate knowing that. In the English Wikipedia, I am Swwright, and you can reply to me here, or in my talk page, or in the article "Sling (weapon)". Vielen dank!

Well I saw it first in an arcticle but I can't remember the name. Sorry. It would be the best to look up old books for that picture. -- Mattes 22:01, 4 June 2007 (UTC)
Very well. I will do that. Thank you! -- Swwright (in English Wikipedia).

Images of you

You have placed your images in Category:Images of Matthias Sebulke. That can be read as "images showing Matthias Sebulke", but I think you mean "images made by Matthias Sebulke". So you may want to use "Category:Images by Matthias Sebulke" for your images. /90.229.135.239 12:26, 4 August 2007 (UTC)

--Mattes 10:31, 15 September 2007 (UTC)

Bilder des Deutschen Museums Verkehrszentrum

(The following lines are on a possible copyright violation with the pictures on Category:Deutsches Museum Verkehrszentrum)

Hallo Mattes!

Was denkst du? --Bigbug21 08:58, 22 January 2008 (UTC)

MfG, --Mattes 09:17, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
--Bigbug21 20:09, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
...Gott sei dank :-) Falls Du noch Bilder vom Verkehrszentrum oder vom Nürberger Eisenbahnmuseum brauchst, sag Bescheid OK... MfG, --Mattes 21:08, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
--Bigbug21 20:19, 23 January 2008 (UTC)

Hello, I haven't received such. I would suggest not to send any more e-mails. Holographische Elemente ("Identigram") auf der Vorderseite eines deutschen Personalausweises

http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Image:Hologramm.JPG

Can you explain the faint images on the right of the photo? Do

you have any idea what it is, the images or imagery? Could it be a type of photon cipher block like encryption of something?

I am not talking about the stars.
I seem to be encountering similiar imagery in some of my photographs and videos

Dboots 06:17, 8 October 2007 (UTC)

No idea what the graphical symbols are called, but I guess these are en:Regular polygons. BTW, they are not just located on that particular spot but rather ontop of most of the entire picture of the ID card (not seen while the photo was taken), see http://www.bundesdruckerei.de/de/iddok/2_1/2_1_6.html BFN, --Mattes 10:10, 8 October 2007 (UTC)

holigrams/images

The link you sent me too was not the same as your photo.

Am I to assume you put each and every one of of those images on your Holigrapy photo, including the images on the right of the photo that I was referrring to?

Dboots 06:07, 14 October 2007 (UTC)

That was an official photo of my ID card and the first image of the Bundesdruckerei link does have exactly the same pattern on it. --Mattes 07:28, 14 October 2007 (UTC)
My eyes do not know what to look for to compare. What exact pattern

are you speaking about that you feel is on the ID link and your own ID. Can you describe the pattern you are referring to? Dboots 18:38, 25 October 2007 (UTC)

I've told you that already, see above. --Mattes 08:09, 26 October 2007 (UTC)

I did see above. I printed it and looked at it with a magnifying glass many times. The stars around your face have been placed different than the ones in the other ID. The area over your face is only one layer of images compared to the other links ID which seems to have at least 3 layers deep of 3D type data form images. On the other ID over half of the left side of her face is covered with green. I can see that evidently, what is on your id is about only 1/4 of the total holigraphic image that is on the other link which covers a lot larger area of her face than your picture.

I can see that under the other layers of holigraphic images

on the other links ID, that somehow your ID appears to only have the bottom layer of holigraphic images that are also on the other ID.

How did you get the other layers off, so only the bottom dimension

of holigraphic images only showed on your picture? 66.53.99.143 08:09, 14 November 2007 (UTC)

Hi again, the image description actually seems to have a problem: it refers to the wp:en: page, which in return refers to commons. Which one came up first? Or is the image duplicate?
Thanks in advance for your help, and best regards from France,

Deprecated language templates

Hi,
I just wanted to let you know that {{English}}, {{Deutsch}}, {{Polski}}, {{Français}} and so on are now deprecated and should not be used any more.
You can use {{en|Your English text}}, {{de|your Deutsch text}}, {{pl|your Polish text}}, {{fr|your French text}}, etc. instead :)
Best regards,
P.S. I've also updated your template subpage, I hope you won't mind about this :)

Thanks, that's great. I will take it in mind in the future. C.U., --Mattes 13:26, 21 November 2007 (UTC)

Was sagst du dazu? ChristianBier 18:56, 4 December 2007 (UTC)
ChristianBier 23:11, 4 December 2007 (UTC)
Gut, bin gespannt! --Mattes 09:33, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
So hab sie soweit fertig. Schau Sie dir mal an.

Vorlage

Philately |ERSTAUSGABE= |Motiv / Thema= |ENTWURF= |AUFLAGE= |Druckverfahren= |Druckerei= |Bogen= Bogengröße(Anzahl der Marken) Markenheft usw. |ZAEHNUNG= |MICHEL= |Lizenzbaustein= |SCAN= }}

--Mattes 21:08, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
Also: MichelNr. sollte kein Problem darstellen.
--Mattes 00:43, 6 December 2007 (UTC)
Okay, ich baus ein. ChristianBier 02:21, 6 December 2007 (UTC)
Danke :)-- Mattes 07:55, 6 December 2007 (UTC)
Die Vorlage darf jetzt verwendet werden. ChristianBier 13:33, 6 December 2007 (UTC)
--19:48, 6 December 2007 (UTC)

That's my wife - she gave her verbal consent for publication. She does not have an email account and does not understand an English written consent. Is it really necessary to have an OTRS ticket to cover personality right for close relatives? I find that a bit exaggerated. It is also not the problem of the Website or it's publisher if a face is shown which is not covered with personality right consent anyway. --Mattes 17:42, 25 November 2007 (UTC)

Briefmarkenserie Blumen

--kandschwar 15:58, 12 December 2007 (UTC)

Ich weiß was du meinst. ChristianBier 20:39, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
Habe mal Category:Deutsche Briefmarkenserie angelegt. --Mattes 22:42, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
Sehr fein. ChristianBier 23:42, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
…da gebe ich Dir Recht. Hier bewegt sich endlich mal was!
Was meinst du bzw. was meint ihr? ChristianBier 01:04, 13 December 2007 (UTC)

So genug geplänkelt.

Hi, I'm trying to resolve some category difficulties, partially of my own creation... :-( Your contribution appreciated! JackyR 23:03, 28 January 2008 (UTC)

Deutsche Poststempel

Was meinst du, besteht Bedarf an Sonderstempelabbildungen in Commons?

ChristianBier 13:23, 2 February 2008 (UTC)
Christian: Gute Idee, dann mal “frohes hochladen!”! --Mattes 13:27, 2 February 2008 (UTC)
