Quekettia

Dear Maarten,

I think you are right. I had this idea on my mind for a long time and had to go and check it all over again now that I have more publications available. Quekettia (Stictophyllorchis) pygmaea has to have much smaller flowers that this yellow one we have here. Q pygmaea's petals measure only 1,3 mm long.

One year ago I took some photos of a plant I believe is the same you have. Unfortunately at the time it was dark and windy so the photos did not come up as good as I wished (I uploaded some of them to commons, look for Quekettia papillosa). I wish we could see the lip better, and also see the column. Furthermore I could not tear the plant apart at that time so had to rely only on my memory about its size... well, thank you very much for pointing it out. It has to be Q. papillosa.

I value very much your photos for most of them are of plants of Brazil (besides Suriname) that we hardly see here in São Paulo. Cheers--Dalton (talk) 20:11, 25 October 2008 (UTC)

Maarten, I know your photos of rare orchids from a long while. I wish you lived in Suriname so we could have more of them. Well, regarding your questions, I am no expert on Habenaria and hardly studied them so far, so for now I'll pass. Maybe you will find some clues on this website that is mainteined by two Brazilian Habenaria experts Habenaria of Minas Gerais in spite they write about other area, they might have them there for some species are pretty spread out. Furthermore their e-mails addresses is there case you feel like asking them the IDs.

About the Batemannia, unfortunately I do not have the publication of Batemannia armillata Rchb.f., Gard. Chron., n.s., 3: 780 (1878), but I am suspicious it may be it for it does exist there, and as far as I know no matching other Batemannia is cited to Suriname.

Dear Maarten, yesterday I got info by Dr. Günter Gerlach. He is the same opinion as you and identified the Peristeria Panama as Peristeria pendula. Also he identified my first Peristeria pendula wrong classified plant as Lycomormium squalidum. I think with your help the two plants have the correct name. Thank you! Cheers. Thanks for the great work you're doing here at Commons. I'm doing quite a bit of "new galleries" patrol, and it is always a relief to see your username as the creator of a new gallery. Then I know I could have "marked the page as patrolled" without even looking at it, but look at it none-the-less since it's bound to be a gallery with some beautiful flowers.

Oncidium altissimum

Dear Maarten, just I sorted in the genus Oncidium. I think we have a little problem with: Oncidium altissimum Lindl. (1834) as synonym of Oncidium baueri and Oncidium altissimum (Jacq.) Sw. (1800). pictures from botanicus.org

Hi Maarten, I've seen that you have uploaded several Orchid-pictures in higher resolution. But how do you get them from botanicus.org? Some time ago it was possible to download the pages in high resolution. Nowadays only a pdf can be downloaded. ....now I try to give an answer to the "wheater in Netherlands - problem". The three links you had given were from the year 2000. Now one of the the main authors of the new standard work Genera Orchidacearum , Mark W. Chase, set in volume 5 in 2009 the Stanhopeinae to the tribus Cymbidieae. [4] (please open at the end of the page "weitere Texte"). Here also [5] is a (nearly complete) list of the new taxonomy. Some weeks ago I visitet the DOG Congress in Neu-Ulm and obtained a copy of the complete classification of vol. 1 - 5. According this present list and KEW I updated the Commons tax. Unfortunately is the best taxo expert, Dalton Holland Baptista, not any more present here. But he set here [6] the Stanhopeinae to Cymbidieae also. Also the very good tax in the NL WP [7] set it the same way. I think there is not spoken or written the last word to this taxonomic opinion. undo revisions on Roman Catholic Church Antakya

Hi Raspar

You added to some of my pics of the Roman Catholic Church Antakya the category St Peter's Cave Church. But these two churches are absolutely not the same! St Peter's Cave Church is a monument/museum just outside the city of Antakya, while the Roman Catholic Church Antakya is in the old city center and a functioning church and convent. I hope you don't mind if I undo your revisions on these files. Btw, I loved Antakya, a beautiful and very friendly town.

Good day Maarten I put an Aide Memoire on the talk page for my reference. My conclusions are

Doris Cramer appears to be a synonym of two species Cepheuptychia cephus and Orsotriaena medus Fabricius, 1775. The only way I can see this being so is thus

Female doris Cramer synonym of Cepheuptychia cephus Fabricius, 1775 Male doris Cramer synonym of Orsotriaena medus Fabricius, 1775

There is a problem with the B M cards and almost all tables of synonymy generally. Usually no explanations are offered and the author, or date, of the synonymy is not given (the 2 cards we are consulting may have different authors at different time. In this case we are not told who wrote the BM cards or the sources of the Funet synonymy. You have properly given your sources as these (GLI and Funet) and that is all we can do for the moment. • 1 [illustration and Donovan text of 1798]: Scarabæus Midas, [name in Westwood 1838 revised text]: COPRIS MIDAS (New generic placement).
• 2 [illustration and Donovan text of 1798]: Scarabæus nasicornis, [assumed name in Westwood 1838 revised text]: ORYCTES RHINOCEROS? (Putative redetermination)
• - and so on.

You are right not to try for a presently accepted name.In a few non butterfly cases this may be possible but only if a Donovan specimen survives.I will confer with curators on that.The butterflies will be easier.
