bot malfunction

Hi,

I am unsure if you noticed this question, but as it remains unresponded and suggests your bot malfunction, note, that if this problem appears again your bot may be blocked until it is fixed. Only CC licenses can be reviewed by flickrreview. Ankry (talk) 08:21, 5 April 2020 (UTC)

@Ankry: Hi! I can's see any edits made by my bot on that file. My bot does not make flickr review. Are you sure it is my bot that made something wrong? --MGA73 (talk) 08:32, 5 April 2020 (UTC)
Your bot replaced {{Licensereview}} with {{Flickrreview}} and this edit remains deleted; check log of your bot operations:
  (diff) 2020-01-31T16:27:36 . . MGA73bot (talk | contribs | block) m 478 bytes (More spefic license review template)
While this image was {{PD-USGov-State}}-licensed this led to failed review. Only CC-licensed Flickr image should be reviewed by the User:FlickreviewR 2 bot. PD-type licenses always rely on external reasons and they have to be reviewed manually. As mistakes happen, I do not see a big problem, but please, fix your bot as such changes are disruptive if they remain unnoticed. Ankry (talk) 08:45, 5 April 2020 (UTC)
@Ankry: Thank you! That was a one time manual job I did with my bot. So the bot only did what I asked it to do. I was trying to clean up files in Category:License review needed. I found out that a bunch of Flickr files had a {{Licensereview}} instead of a {{Flickrreview}}.
I think the change was okay because normally Flickrreviewbot can do the job. The bot passed many of the files and in other cases the users that look after the flickr review categories fixed the problems (like wrong link, wrong size, started a DR because the Flickr file is no longer available).
In this case the bot failed the file when doing the review. When Flickrreviewbot fail a review then a human user is supposed to check the file and see if the problem can be fixed or the file should be deleted. The flickrreview NEVER delete a file. There is always at least one human involved.
Besides the Flickrreview bot can pass wiles with a PD-license. Check this edit for example. If you think the bot should only review CC-licenses then we would need to check thousands of files passed by the Flickrreviewbot. --MGA73 (talk) 09:04, 5 April 2020 (UTC)

@Sasuke88: The picture was uploaded to Pixabay before 9 January 2019 so that part is okay. But if it shows a cartoon character it is a COM:DW. Is it a copyrightet character? --MGA73 (talk) 14:10, 12 April 2020 (UTC)

I don't think that this is a direct reproduction of a copyrighted character. It looks to be an original character made by the artist of the drawing. --Sasuke88 (talk) 14:23, 12 April 2020 (UTC)
@Sasuke88: I think you should ask here Commons:Village pump/Copyright before you upload more or you risk having your talk page full of deletion notices and copyright warnings if we are wrong :-) --MGA73 (talk) 14:34, 12 April 2020 (UTC)

You know, Vietnamese cuisine is very rich, but not many people know on this Wiki. We have a treasure trove of images of "popular cuisine" (popular food, street food, home food-family food) and are willing and happy to share them with everyone, but I don't know the technical, so your enthusiastic help is very valuable. Thanks for uploading File:Cecilia Mamström.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.

Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own).

@A1Cafel: Sadly the file is uploaded in 2007 and {{LicenseReview}} was not created until 2009. We have a situation like {{Grandfathered old file}} where old procedures were not the same as today. Instead of a license review they copied the text from the website to Wikipedia. --MGA73 (talk) 09:56, 1 May 2020 (UTC)

License migration bot?

Hi MGA73. I noticed that the backlogs at Category:License migration candidates and Category:License migration needs review were quite long (7.5k and 3.7k, respectively), and was thinking of coding up some sort of bot to do a lot of the work. I saw that you were involved with the big license migration way back when, and wanted to ask if you had any thoughts/ideas/old code to tweak. (I imagine the code from 2009 would need some kind of modification, but if I'm wrong and you can just press "run", that'd be fine too :) ) Best, --Mdaniels5757 (talk) 16:55, 20 May 2020 (UTC)

@Mdaniels5757: Hi! I ran my bot recently and that removed about 10 k files. Sadly there is a lot of manual work involved. One of the main problems are files that are transferred to Commons. If it was uploaded to en.wiki in 2005 but manually uploaded to Commons in 2010 you would get different results if you do not notice or know about the original upload. So in short many of the files left are the "worst of the worst".
If you can find a way to check if file was originally uploaded somewhere else then it would be possible to fix many. That would be very helpful. --MGA73 (talk) 17:01, 20 May 2020 (UTC)

Varifrån kommer uppgiften att upphovsmannen Charles Joppen skulle ha varit död i minst 100 år? Kartan verkar bara vara 113 år gammal. Jag kan inte hitta något dödsår. --Stefan2 (talk) 21:10, 31 May 2020 (UTC)

Hej @Stefan2: ! Kortet er fra 1805 og er lavet af en:Justus Perthes som døde i 1816. Charles Joppen har bare trykt kortet i hans bog fra 1907. --MGA73 (talk) 21:15, 31 May 2020 (UTC)
--Stefan2 (talk) 22:38, 31 May 2020 (UTC)
@Stefan2: If you look at the bottom left corner of the map it says "Justus Perthes, Gotha". I would say that it means the map is attributed to Perthes. That the maps after 1809 looks the same does not have to mean that Joppen made all the maps himself. He could easily have used Perthes' maps and just changed them a bit. Then you can of course discuss if it is above COM:TOO to do such changes. --MGA73 (talk) 08:26, 1 June 2020 (UTC)

Hi Labdajiwa! First about the files from budaya-indonesia.org then my mail could not be sent to them. I think they block mails from Denmark to avoid spam.
About the file from Shutterstock we can't keep it unless we get a permission from the copyright holder. I do not think it is own work. So it should be tagged as either a copyvio or with a "no permission". Good catch! --MGA73 (talk) 18:19, 6 June 2020 (UTC)

Explanation please

You reverted my acceptance of an image (https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Ana_Paula_Mart%C3%ADnez.jpg) saying no license ... but ... I look here and it clearly states creative commons license "reuse allowed". Can you explain and/or revert please. Victuallers (talk) 10:35, 4 August 2020 (UTC)

@Victuallers: The video on YouTube have a valid license. That is why you reviewed the file. The problem is that the review script removed the license template on Commons telling that the file is licensed Cc-by-3.0. The file need both the license template and your review. If you check File:Ana Paula Martínez.jpg you can see that your review is still there. --MGA73 (talk) 10:46, 4 August 2020 (UTC)
Thanks - that makes sense. Thanks for helping Victuallers (talk) 10:55, 4 August 2020 (UTC)

An offering for our new administrator from your comrades...

MGA73, congratulations! You now have administrator rights on Commons. Please take a moment to read the Commons:Administrators page and watchlist related pages (in particular Commons:Administrators' noticeboard and its subpages), before launching yourself into page deletions, page protections, account blockings or modifications of protected pages. The majority of the actions of administrators can be reversed by the other admins, except for history merges which must thus be treated with particular care. Have a look at the list of Gadgets (on the bottom there are the ones specifically for admins – however, for example the UserMessages are very helpful too).

Please feel free to join us on IRC: #wikimedia-commons webchat on irc.freenode.net. There is also a channel for Commons admins, which may be useful for more sensitive topics, or coordination among administrators: #wikimedia-commons-admin webchat.

You may find Commons:Guide to adminship to be useful reading. You can find the admin backlog overview at COM:AB.

Please also check or add your entry to the List of administrators and the related lists by language and date it references.

Great to see you back in the admin team, MGA73! Sorry that I missed your RfA but I was quite busy in real life in the last weeks. Regards, AFBorchert (talk) 15:32, 5 August 2020 (UTC)

Julia Minor

https://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D0%A4%D0%B0%D0%B9%D0%BB:Juliaminor.jpg Sadly I havn't been able to make to make it work. I can't find the button for Commons transfer even after having updated my Beta. I'd be super thankful if you could move it to Commons.*Treker (talk) 14:00, 8 August 2020 (UTC)

@*Treker: I moved it. I just clicked the link to get to the file page. Then I clicked the tab ”Export to Wikimedia Commons”. It has the same name here om Commons as on ru.wiki. --MGA73 (talk) 14:10, 8 August 2020 (UTC)
Thank you! <3 *Treker (talk) 14:19, 8 August 2020 (UTC)
File:Su-10.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

U.S. Army Map Service

Hello again, I don't suppose your bot could do anything with this vast series of US Army Map Service (ie public domain) maps of Japan (and possibly even elsewhere too; from Perry–Castañeda Library Map Collection)? No worries of course if not, thanks, Maculosae tegmine lyncis (talk) 08:12, 13 August 2020 (UTC)

@Maculosae tegmine lyncis: I wish I could but I have never tried to make batch uploads like that. I know User:Multichill and User:Fæ does batch uploads but both of them are working on some really huge uploads atm. So I think the best is to make a post on Commons:Batch uploading. --MGA73 (talk) 12:52, 13 August 2020 (UTC)
I've come across both User:Multichill and User:Fæ before, they're quite prolific - thanks for the pointer, shall do, Maculosae tegmine lyncis (talk) 13:43, 13 August 2020 (UTC)

Email

(forgot to post this earlier, oops). —Mdaniels5757 (talk) 18:42, 15 August 2020 (UTC)

@Mdaniels5757: Sorry I got the mail and wanted to catch you on IRC but you were not around and I forgot :-( --MGA73 (talk) 18:53, 15 August 2020 (UTC)
MGA73, No worries! I've been off and on with IRC lately, just logged back on. —Mdaniels5757 (talk) 18:55, 15 August 2020 (UTC)

Sorry to be late. I know there is the article on jawp, but I think the article is nonsense because it is not copyvio(violation of the license(s)) that we fail to inform the user(s) on jawp that his/her image(s) had been moved(copied) to commons. And recently they (re)started to discuss the article for removal on jawp. And as I said, some users on jawp don't want his/her image(s) to be moved(copied) on commons, so I don't inform it to avoid the trouble. Thank you. LERK (Talk / Contributions / Mail) 12:38, 17 August 2020 (UTC)(added time stamp)

@LERK: Thanks a lot for your reply! I know not all users like Commons. The same happens on en.wiki. There users can add a "keep local" template and then the files usually are not deleted. I thought ja.wiki had the same policy but if you look at the bottom of this discussion you can see that there is no such policy. So even if users say no its not a valid reason not to delete. Anyway I do not want to delay the proces of moving files and getting them deleted by having users complaint. So my thought is to move files and nominate them for deletion unless the user complaint. In 1, 2, 3 years (?) when almost all files are moved and most files are deleted we (I) can take the discussion about the files where users said no. There is no reason to start a discussion about that now as long as there are plenty of files for the admins to delete. If a user has not logged in for more than a year it should be safe to nominate for deletion. But I don't blame you for not wanting the trouble :-) --MGA73 (talk) 12:49, 17 August 2020 (UTC)
