File talk:Fifes and Drums, Poems of America at War, Vigilantes, 1917.djvu[edit]

note: File talk:Fifes and Drums, Poems of America at War, Vigilantes, 1917.djvu Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 22:37, 1 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Seems I had the same problem uploading the PDF version. I downloaded the PDF version via Archives.org, saved it to my computer, then uploaded the PDF file from my computer to Commons... Either something gets lost in the translation, or I am doing something wrong!? Sorry to be a bother! Londonjackbooks (talk) 03:24, 2 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
No problem. I am here to help. ;)
You are not doing anything wrong.. It also has no text if I open it with okular. It has text if I open it with adobe acrobat. I guess there is some not very usual compression algorithm used for the text which is not understood by okular, your pdf→djvu program and by mediawiki's pdf viewer.
I have downloaded the djvu file (on the source page click on HTTP and then on djvu) and reuploaded it. You can speedy the pdf version then. Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 03:42, 2 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
File:Herbert_Asquith_poet_signature_1934.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

The Pathway of Roses, Larson (1913)[edit]

Scanning a book as a series of individual page JPEGs is allowed, but where the book is mainly textual, the PDF or Djvu formats are often preferred. Also, to be more correct with current emerging best practices, the licensing tag should probably be {{PD-old-auto-1923|deathyear=XXXX}}, where "XXXX" is the year of the author's death... AnonMoos (talk) 15:16, 23 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I am transcribing the book to Wikisource, and am doing it in stages. I could photograph all the pages first, convert to PDF, then upload (via Archive.org or otherwise), but I am not patient enough, and wanted to get started transcribing. Were there a similar (London, 1913) edition available at Archive.org, I would have opted for that route. With regard to the licensing tag, is there a bot that can take care of the pages I have already uploaded? I don't mind doing it by hand otherwise. Thanks, Londonjackbooks (talk) 18:16, 23 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
There probably is a bot, but I don't know anything about it... AnonMoos (talk) 23:13, 23 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Ok. Thanks, Londonjackbooks (talk) 23:23, 23 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I'm gonna opt to make the changes myself, but for future reference (if needed), see Commons:Bots/Work requests. Thanks again, Londonjackbooks (talk) 23:32, 23 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, File:TheRomanceOfNature 0067color.jpg, is missing information about where it comes from or who created it, which is needed to verify its copyright status. Please edit the file description and add the missing information, or the file may be deleted.

If you created the content yourself, enter {{Own}} as the source. If you did not add a licensing template, you must add one. You may use, for example, {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} or {{Cc-zero}} to release certain rights to your work.

If someone else created the content, or if it is based on someone else's work, the source should be the address to the web page where you found it, the name and ISBN of the book you scanned it from, or similar. You should also name the author, provide verifiable information to show that the content is in the public domain or has been published under a free license by its author, and add an appropriate template identifying the public domain or licensing status, if you have not already done so. Please add the required information for this and other files you have uploaded before adding more files. If you need assistance, please ask at the help desk. Thank you!

"Fixed[edit]

Sonja, why did you place the following on my talk page?

"Fixed. Londonjackbooks (talk) 17:22, 6 April 2013 (UTC)"

Why interfere with my image work in any manner? I am the one who placed the colored flower image on Commons and replaced the one in greyscale after cleaning the colored flower &c, -- not you. I could have and would have placed the needed material on commons as asked. I don't need you to step in before I even get to reply. I also know about the Category and would have corrected that. William Maury Morris II (talk) 00:32, 7 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Apologies if I stepped on your toes. My bad. No harm meant; on the contrary... Londonjackbooks (talk) 02:13, 7 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
For the record, you did nothing wrong here at all. The uploader should provide a verifiable source during upload, but if they don't, anyone who is able to is free to correct the problem. There is no ownership of files on Commons. It's a collaborative project, and the sooner problems are fixed, regardless of who does it, the better. I would have fixed it myself instead of tagging the file if I'd been able to identify the source. So, thanks again. LX (talk, contribs) 19:41, 8 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I am familiar with Mr. Morris, and in hindsight, I perhaps should have given a courtesy heads-up first. Your comments are appreciated, however. Thanks, Londonjackbooks (talk) 20:03, 8 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Autopatrol given[edit]

Hello. I just wanted to let you know that I have granted autopatrol rights to your account; the reason for this is that I believe you are sufficiently trustworthy and experienced to have your contributions automatically marked as "reviewed". This has no effect on your editing, it is simply intended to make it easier for users that are monitoring Recent changes or Recent uploads to find unproductive edits amidst the productive ones like yours. In addition, the Flickr upload feature and an increased number of batch-uploads in UploadWizard, uploading of freely licensed MP3 files, overwriting files uploaded by others and an increased limit for page renames per minute are now available to you. Thank you. INeverCry 21:37, 17 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! I think this is probably the best of the three images of Coates; I'd like to clean it up a bit, to try to get it to featured picture status, but is there any chance of begging a higher resolution scan first? Cheers, Adam Cuerden (talk) 01:25, 16 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

This is the highest resolution I have. I gave away the text which contains the image as a gift a few years ago. Thanks for considering the photo! Londonjackbooks (talk) 13:51, 16 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
en:Wikipedia:Featured picture candidates/Florence Earle Coates. This should, hopefully, get her onto the main page. =) Adam Cuerden (talk) 03:00, 19 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for that :) Londonjackbooks (talk) 15:31, 19 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
