First steps tutorial

Our first steps tour and our frequently asked questions will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy (Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content).

You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold when contributing and assume good faith when interacting with others. This is a wiki.

Getting help

More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at the copyright village pump.

Goodies, tips, and tricks
  • Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your graphic abilities.
  • You can find the files you have uploaded in your Uploads.
  • Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~.
  • To link to an image page without embedding the image, type: [[:File:Foo.jpg]], which produces: File:Foo.jpg.
  • You may enable gadgets (custom features) for your account.
  • There are several tools to upload files.
  • Have you edited Wikipedia before? This guide might be useful.

Dateiverschieber?[edit]

Hallo Knochen, warum beantragst du eigentlich nicht die Dateiverschieberrechte? Deine Erfahrung in diesem Bereich sollte ausreichend sein, auch wenn die angegebenen Gründe nicht immer ganz passen, z. B. hier wäre 5 (Correct obvious errors in file names (e.g. wrong proper nouns or false historical dates)) deutlich passender als 3 (Correct misleading names into accurate ones). --Didym (talk) 21:28, 24 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Westerbauer[edit]

Hallo, kannst du vielleicht für File:Hagen-Westerbauer Enneper Straße 122 - geo.hlipp.de - 34798.jpg und File:Hagen-Westerbauer Enneper Straße 128 - geo.hlipp.de - 34802.jpg auch noch die großen Bildversionen "besorgen"?

Mit dem Kohlenbahntunnel guck ich noch, muss erst meine alten Unterlagen durchwühlen. Hatte deine Nachfrage erst kürzlich gesehen, weiß der Geier warum der Nachrichtenbalken damals ausblieb oder warum ich nichts mitbekommen hab. Holger1959 (talk) 16:07, 29 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hallo, zunächst mal. Das Portraitfoto File:Jean-Claude Kunz.jpg wurde hier am 14.01.2014 hochgeladen, nicht von ihnen sondern von User:Dj heimeran. Auf der webseite ist es seit 05.09.2013 16:08:51 in exakt der Auflösung [5]. Also muss der User:Dj heimeran (ihre Sockenpuppe) dort eine Freigabe des Urhebers haben. Bei dem anderen Bild ist es das Gleiche. Wir können hier bereden was auch immer. Die Diskussion um die mögliche Löschung ist auf den jeweiligen Seiten der Löschdiskussionen zu führen. File:La Bibliotheque oubliee.jpg hab ich auch zur Löschung vorgeschlagen. Wenn es eine Erlaubnis des Künstlers/Urhebers gibt ist diese an permissions-de@wikimedia.org zu schicken. Bilder von Geograph Deutschland[edit]

Hallo Knochen,

könntest Du mich beim Vorhaben unterstützen, die Bilder von Geograph Deutschland nach Commons zu übertragen? Upload mittels geograph2commons-Tool funktioniert (zumindest bei mir) nicht. Nachdem ich von Pontius nach Pilatus geschickt wurde, habe ich eine Anfrage bei Commons:Batch_uploading gestellt, die jetzt seit ziemlich genau einem Jahr unbeantwortet vor sich hin schlummert.

Hallo P170, Du bist sicher auf mich aufmerksam geworden weil ich einige Bilder von Geograph nach hier übertragen habe. Das ich alle Bilder von Geograph auch für die Wikipedia/Commons für geeignet halte kann ich nicht sagen. Zum Beispiel Kuhnesträßel bei Hatzenbühl wäre für uns auf den ersten Blick nicht sehr wertvoll. Dann sind die Bilder auf Geograph immer nur einer Kategorie zugeordnet, dieses z. B. der Kategorie Weg. Eine automatische Kategorisierung wäre nur mit sehr großem Fehlerpotential möglich. Es müssten dann also alle 50.000 Bilder von Hand Kategorisiert werden. Die Beschreibungen oder Dateinamen sind auch nicht immer so wie wir sie auf Commons verwenden, also im Einzelfall prüfen. Es müssten sich dann mehrere Leute drum kümmern. Ansonsten würden die Bilder nur einfach in einer Sammelkategorie sein wo sie niemand wirklich findet. Wenn da jemand ist der sich kümmert kann man sicher einen Botbetreiber finden der den Upload durchführt. --Knochen ﱢﻝﱢ‎  18:31, 11 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Hallo Knochen, danke für die Antwort! Mir geht es vor allem um die zahlreichen Bilder, die sofort in einen Wikipedia-Artikel eingebunden werden könnten. Hier vor allem solche für Listen von Kulturdenkmälern von Orten oder auch Bilder von Orten/Ortsteilen, denen bei Wikipedia/Commons noch gänzlich ein Bild fehlt. Dieser Zugewinn wiegt doch deutlich beträchtlicher als der Nachteil durch vermeintlich nicht wertvolle Bilder, wobei die Vorgaben für ein Bild bei Geograph nach meiner Ansicht ganz gut zu den Commons passen; so sind doch nahezu alle Bilder immer noch relevant genug für den Verbleib in den jeweiligen Orts-Kategorien. Da die Bilder bei Geograph, wie du weißt, alle einen geographischen Bezug haben müssen, würde ich es für sinnvoll erachten, die Bilder automatisch nach den hinterlegten Landkreisen (auf Ortsebene wird wohl leider anscheinend die Entfernung zum nächsten Ort statt der Lage in einer bestimmten Gemarkung berücksichtigt) zu kategorisieren. Das ist sicher richtig. Vor diesem Hintergrund habe ich ja auch etliche Bilder nach hier übertragen. Die Kategorisierung in eine Ortskategorie klappt schon nicht. Da wäre mal z. B. Drethem - Kirche, gehört um Artikel de:Drethem, eine Category:Drethem gibt es aber nicht. Von solchen Kategorien wie Neustadt (ca. 1.000 Kategorien) mal ganz zu schweigen. Es bleibt bei der Handarbeit von 50.000 Bildern. Die Bilder werden einfach nicht gefunden weil sie nicht automatisch der richtigen Kategorie zugeordnet werden können. Schon klar. Wie setzen wir das hier um? Erstellen wir dann eine Category:6 km entfernt von Neu Darchau, Kreis Lüchow-Dannenberg, Niedersachsen und für das benachbarte Bild eine Category:5 km entfernt von Neu Darchau, Kreis Lüchow-Dannenberg, Niedersachsen oder all diese Bilder nach Category:Neu Darchau. Hallo, nun Du hattest bei den Bildern hier genau so wie bei den Bildern auf der de.wikipedia.org angegeben das die Bilder dein Eigenes Werk sind. Dem ist aber nicht so gewesen. Die gelöschten Bilder stammten alle von der Seite Dunaj - vltava, wie z. B. dieses Bild. Ein Bild wird erst dann zum eigenen Werk wenn Du es selbst photographierst oder das Logo selbst entworfen und digital hergestellt hast. Für alle Bilder die irgendwo aus dem Internet kopiert werden benötigst Du die Erlaubnis und schriftliche Freigabe von dem Rechteinhaber (in der Regel ist das der Photograph oder Ersteller der Grafik).--Knochen ﱢﻝﱢ‎  18:26, 25 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Was ich sehen kann ist, Du bist als de:Benutzer:Europaregion verifiziert mit einer Email-Adresse von ooe.gv.at. Das hat mit den Bildern die hier gelöscht wurden mal nix zu tun. Zum andern hat die Rechte an dem Bild der Photograph nicht der Inhaber der website, der hat vielleicht ein Nutzungsrecht. Wenn die Bilder von Dir gemacht wurden schick eine Email an permissions-commons-de@wikimedia.org und bitte um Wiederherstellung bei dem löschenden Admin (einfach den Link einer gelöschten Datei anklicken dann steht dort wer gelöscht hat, ich kann nicht löschen) oder auf Commons:Undeletion_requests/de anfragen. --Knochen ﱢﻝﱢ‎  17:34, 27 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Ja hatte ich gesehen. Es gibt tausende Bilder die ohne Beschreibung sind und häufig nicht oder nicht richtig kategorisiert sind. Ja eigentlich könnten die gelöscht werden. Nur müsste man sich die alle auch ansehen ob da vielleicht doch was brauchbares steht. Da wirds wahrscheinlich böses Blut geben, welcher Admin wird das machen? Was diese von MaybeMaybeMaybe hochgeladenen flickr-Bilder betrifft, sind die meisten recht gute Landschaftssichten von La Gomera,sie zeigen was an der Insel typisch ist. Hier ist das Umbenennen recht einfach, auch die Ersetzung der Beschreibung. Der user hat viele hundert flickr-Bilder als "DSC..." transferiert bei denen solche Reparaturen weitaus schwieriger sind.

Hallo, zunächst versteh ich nicht warum Du die Datei nicht selbst verschoben hast. Als Dateiverschieber bist Du ja tätig. Einfach nur den Namen von DSCFxxx.jpg auf La Gomera xxx.jpg zu ändern macht es aber nicht besser. Warum wird mein Foto stets mit einem Beseitigungsanspruch markiert?

Dieses Foto stammt aus der privaten Fotosammlung, die mein Opa als der Bürgermeister des Dorges Dziewkowice besessen hat.

Jetzt hat unsere Familie diese Fotos in Besitz. Dieses Foto wurde von der Wilkommenstafel unseres Dorfes entnommen, die in unserem Dorf vor Jahren aufgestellt wurde und ist selbstverständlich glaubhaft. Diese Tafel beinhaltet die deutsch-polnischen Begrüßungen und Wappen unseres Dorfes. Das Wappen wollte ich auf wikipedia platzieren.

Dass du das Wappen von einer Tafel abfotografiert hast, macht das Wappen nicht zu deinem "eigenen Werk". Von daher ist das eine falsche Beschriftung der Datei und wird zu Recht gelöscht. --Jonny84 (talk) 18:02, 1 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Important message for file movers[edit]

A community discussion has been closed where the consensus was to grant all file movers the suppressredirect user right. This will allow file movers to not leave behind a redirect when moving files and instead automatically have the original file name deleted. Policy never requires you to suppress the redirect, suppression of redirects is entirely optional.

Possible acceptable uses of this ability:

  • To move recently uploaded files with an obvious error in the file name where that error would not be a reasonable redirect. For example: moving "Sheep in a tree.jpg" to "Squirrel in a tree.jpg" when the image does in fact depict a squirrel.
