Figure that needs to be rotated[edit]
Dear Kilom691,
An image on the page "Tropical geometry" is credited to you. It's a nice image, but to be consistent with the "min" convention of the article, it ought to be rotated by 180 degrees. Are you able to do this? Ishboyfay (talk) 04:18, 14 June 2015 (UTC)
- Hello. All the images in Category:Tropical geometry are coherently oriented, I think. But of course, it is very easy to turn them, if this is really required. Which one would you need ? F (talk) 12:32, 14 June 2015 (UTC)
- I agree, they are coherently oriented, and they all use the "max" convention. In the "Tropical geometry" article the "min" convention is used. The image Cubique_tropicale.svg should be rotated 180 degrees, and then it would be appropriate as an illustration. Ishboyfay (talk) 13:16, 15 June 2015 (UTC)

Bots[edit]
You are receiving this message because a technical change may affect a bot, gadget, or user script you have been using. The breaking change involves API calls. This change has been planned for two years. The WMF will start making this change on 30 June 2015. A partial list of affected bots can be seen here: https://lists.wikimedia.org/pipermail/wikitech-l/2015-June/081931.html This includes all bots that are using pywikibot compat. Some of these bots have already been fixed. However, if you write user scripts or operate a bot that uses the API, then you should check your code, to make sure that it will not break.
What, exactly, is breaking? The "default continuation mode" for action=query requests to api.php will be changing to be easier for new coders to use correctly. To find out whether your script or bot may be affected, then search the source code (including any frameworks or libraries) for the string "query-continue". If that is not present, then the script or bot is not affected. In a few cases, the code will be present but not used. In that case, the script or bot will continue working.
This change will be part of 1.26wmf12. It will be deployed to test wikis (including mediawiki.org) on 30 June, to non-Wikipedias (such as Wiktionary) on 1 July, and to all Wikipedias on 2 July 2015.
If your bot or script is receiving the warning about this upcoming change (as seen at https://www.mediawiki.org/w/api.php?action=query&list=allpages ), it's time to fix your code!
- The simple solution is to simply include the "rawcontinue" parameter with your request to continue receiving the raw continuation data (example <https://www.mediawiki.org/w/api.php?action=query&list=allpages&rawcontinue=1>). No other code changes should be necessary.
- Or you could update your code to use the simplified continuation documented at https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/API:Query#Continuing_queries (example <https://www.mediawiki.org/w/api.php?action=query&list=allpages&continue=>), which is much easier for clients to implement correctly.
Either of the above solutions may be tested immediately, you'll know it works because you stop seeing the warning.
Do you need help with your own bot or script? Ask questions in e-mail on the mediawiki-api or wikitech-l mailing lists. Volunteers at m:Tech or w:en:WP:Village pump (technical) or w:en:Wikipedia:Bot owners' noticeboard may also be able to help you.
Are you using someone else's gadgets or user scripts? Most scripts are not affected. To find out if a script you use needs to be updated, then post a note at the discussion page for the gadget or the talk page of the user who originally made the script. Hello Kilom691,
I'm writing you as one of the most active Commons users right now. Since a while now, the idea of a dedicated Commons conference has been floating around, but since the last Wikimania concrete steps have been taken to actually make it happen next year. If you're interested in participation or maybe willing to help organize the first ever Commons Conference, I invite you to check out the project page and leave your comments; or just show your support for the idea, by signing up.
Cheers,

Dear sir, you've added Category:Santa Claus in art to at least one of my uploads. Hi Kilom - Rather than just putting these all in Category:Unidentified birds, it would be better if you'd added their relevant species categories to them ;-) The vast majority are correctly identified in their filenames, I've only found a couple misidentified so far. Also, they all (or almost all) have some location information in the Flickr tags, which needs to be added to the file categories (e.g. Category:Birds of Manjira Wildlife Sanctuary for File:A Beautiful Pheasant Tailed Jacana (50176889862).jpg), if you could add that as well. Thanks! - MPF (talk) 22:59, 24 May 2021 (UTC)
- Hi Kilom - curious, why is it you're still putting birds clearly identified in the filename (e.g. File:A Common Kestrel (49172853281).jpg), into 'Unidentified' categories? And, please, remember to check the Flickr originals for location tags, which are very important (see my edit). I'm finding it distinctly tedious that I'm being left alone to do all this essential work without support from others - dealing with several hundred files in Category:Unidentified birds and its subcategories which should never have been put there in the first place, is very daunting. I'm starting to feel like giving up. - MPF (talk) 17:56, 7 June 2021 (UTC)
- Hello. Sorry for the flood from me in the category of Unidentified birds. I may say for my defense that I am not responsible for the upload of an infinite stream of un-categorized files showing birds. Categorizing is a daunting task, I certainly agree and appreciate very much your efforts. I am trying to help, but I only know scientific names for some european species. Apart from that, I am usually not able to say something precise. That's the reason why I use these wide and unspecific categories. If you wish, I can stop doing that, but this will not prevent the flood of bird pictures to go on. F (talk) 19:02, 7 June 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks for the reply! Yes, agree the flood of uncategorised files is not your responsibility :-) I do know quite a lot of scientific names, but far from all; I keep a set of field guides handy to look them up when needed (Birds of the Indian Subcontinent being a very useful one just now!), with checks against IOC for any taxonomic updates. Ah well, on with the show! MPF (talk) 10:24, 8 June 2021 (UTC)

Wrong descriptions[edit]
Dear Kilom691, You probably already noticed: because of an excel error many of the new uploads of User:PMRMaeyaert are double images, and some images carry wrong descriptions. I am currently working away the mistakes, but this will take some weeks. Regarding the identical images: the images carrying the letter N have correct descriptions. Example: PM 146610 E Terrassa.jpg carries a wrong description (Église Notre-Dame-des-Miracles. Avignonet-Lauragais), whereas PM 146610n E Terrassa.jpg has a correct description (Conjunt Sant Pere. Terrassa). (12 Nov.: now resolved.) I will correct the mistakes within a few weeks. The wrong doubles will be removed. Vysotsky (talk) 22:10, 11 November 2022 (UTC)
