Can you show me a screenshot of it in Inkscape? You can screenshot it using the Print Screen key. Then open up Microsoft Paint, select Paste, save the screenshot, and upload it at an image host such as Tinypic. Then I'll look at it. Yung6 22:40, 1 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sea Otter[edit]

Привет Калан! The Еnglish en:Sea Otter article is under "Featured Article" review, and I have been cheerily stealing images from the EXCELLENT ru:Калан. I wanted to add the graphs on Commander Island harvests [1] and London fur market sales [2], but am not sure what the units are on the Y-axis (особи? сотни? шкуры? фунты?). Can you tell me? Horizontal axis of both images represent years. Vertical axis of first graph is measured in individuals, and axis of second graph is measured in thousands of fells. Thanks for writing poty.js, it's quite neat. However, it's a bit confusing for some people (see Commons_talk:Picture_of_the_Year/2008#Why_modifying_the_voting_system.3F). Tip: Categorizing images[edit]

Hello, Kalan!

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]

[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

POTY 2010[edit]

Hi Kalan,

I've noticed that when someone votes on a picture in the gallery, the 'Votes list' link becomes unavailable for that person. That is inconvenient becomes it makes much more difficult to have access to the history of our favourite pictures. Can it please be fixed? -- Alvesgaspar (talk) 08:00, 3 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Boxes around images and voting buttons[edit]

Hello Kalan, Would it be possible for you to either: Move the voting button so it is inside the same grey border as the picture or Change the text on the button to read "Vote for ~~this~~ the above image" because on the panorama gallery it becomes unclear which button belongs with which image (even though it can be figured out by scrolling to the top or bottom of a gallery page). Flag and crest of Hannover prior to 1714[edit]

Kalan,

the flag for the Kingdom of Hannover is wrong. The Saxon steed had it's tail up, not down. Only after WWII is the Saxon steed depicted with a downward tail, unless in Westphalia, where the Saxon steed still proudly holds it's tail up.

This link leads to the original Hannoveran flag as used until 1714. You will notice that the crown is also incorrect in that regard.

I am not sure in how far the above is a reliable source.

May i humbly add to the quite very well educated remarks of Lord Farrow above that the royal crown of Hanover is very much inspired in design by the british crown jewels, notably the crown of Saint Edward, with some clear distinctions: The hanoverian royal crown does have a hermin base as do the british crowns, quite very unusual for a continental crown, it has 6 fleurons instead of the british fleur de lys, adorned originally with round/spherical stones or round pearls and 2 stylised maltese crosses after the british model, but heavier in appearance, also originally adorned with either stones or pearls, it has eight arches adorned with stones, instead of the four arches of british royal crowns, as is continental european custom for royal and grand-ducal crowns, the middle arch is continuous and broader whereas the other 6 are different in design and more narrow, between the fleurons and fleur de lys are 8 prongs, orginally adorned with pear-shaped pearls or stones which are now missing. The crown is made of 14 carat gold, filled completely (as can be seen in the last Prussian Royal Crown made in 1889) with a royal red velvet cap, topped by an orb of blue enamel embellished with a circlet of gold and one middle arch of the same, on top of which is sitting a stylised maltese cross with the round/spherical stone or pearl in the center missing, leaving a hole, the crown is adorned today with 6 blue Sapphires, 4 green Emeralds and 10 Rubies on the circlet and the arches, plus some obviously missing 17 pearls and/or round/spherical stones and possibly even more missing pearls and/or stones on the arches and the circlet. The crown is 26cm high, diameter 17,5cm, circumference 56cm and was originally heraldically designed by H. Schaedtler in 1816 when he designed the royal house order of guelph, and was finally comissioned in 1843, together with a sceptre and a smaller, similar crown (without any adornment of stones or pearls at all), originally intended (and once used) as a bridal crown, as the guelph jewels and with those the famous guelph bridal crown were in dispute between the hanoverian royal house and Queen Victoria of Great Britain as last british hanoverian, and were thus kept in Britain at the time - that second, smaller crown was later called the queens crown. The hanoverian crown jewels were made by the Royal Hanoverian Court Jewelers Knauer and Lameyer and the Royal Hanoverian Court Furrier Krüger and were first used at the wedding of Crown Prince George of Hanover in 1843. The Crown Jewels were never used for a coronation, as there never was a coronation in Hanover, they were used on the aforementioned wedding when they were shown to a selection of courtiers and guests and only once again, a last time, for the lying in state of George V. of Hanover. After that they remained hidden and went into exile to Gmund in Austria with the last King of Hanover, Ernest Augustus I. in 1866 when Prussia annexed Hanover in the aftermath of the German War. After 1925 they were kept at Blankenburg Castle, and were guarded by british troops to Marienburg Castle in 1945 where, it is assumed, they were kept since, but never been on public display. The hanoverian crown jewels are the private property of Prince Ernest Augustus (V.) of Hanover, head of the royal house of guelph, the house of the former kings of Hanover. The royal hanoverian regalia are kept in a private vault of the royal house today and are not on display.

May i add that that to use the heraldic Savoy crown of the Kings of Italy for the Hanoverian State Flag is quite ... ambitious. ;-)
