Welcome to Wikimedia Commons, KSFT!

Hi, I was curious about your mass deletion request as per this portion of the FAQ [1] it appears that the author does in fact provide a license suitable for use with the Commons. Thoughts? 108.55.40.79 04:37, 29 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia has different licensing requirements from Commons. Wikipedia is slightly looser and, in some cases, allows non-free images. I wasn't sure whether these would be allowed on Commons, partly because no license is specified, so I posted on COM:VPC, but no one responded. After looking into it more, I decided to make the deletion request, and the admin agreed with me, which gives me more confidence that I was right. Also, the images were probably incorrectly tagged as the work of the uploader. KSFT (talk) 10:45, 29 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome, Dear Patroller![edit]

Counter Vandalism Unit

Hi KSFT,

You now have the Patroller right and may call yourself a patroller! Please take a moment to read the updated Commons:Patrol to learn how Patrolling works and how we use it to fight vandalism.

As you know already, the patrolling functionality is enabled for all edits, not just for new-page creations. This enables us to keep track of, for example, edits made by anonymous users here on Commons.

We could use your help at the Counter Vandalism Unit. For example by patrolling an Anonymous-edits checklist and checking a day-part.

If you have any questions please leave a message on the CVU talkpage or ask for help on IRC in #wikimedia-commons.

Direzionale Uffici Comunali (Parma)[edit]

Hello. Excuse me for my english. Why did you revert my edit? Thanks--Parma1983 (talk) 00:12, 2 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Parma1983: You added a category that does not exist to an file. If you plan to create the category, feel free to add it again. KSFT (talk) 00:18, 2 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I was already creating the new category ;) Thanks. Good night--Parma1983 (talk) 00:22, 2 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi KSFT, you're now a filemover. When moving files please respect the following advice:

  • Use the CommonsDelinker link in the {{Rename}} template to order a bot to replace all ocurrences of the old title with the new one. Or, if there was no rename-request, please use the Move & Replace-tab.
  • Please leave a redirect behind unless you have a valid reason not to do so. Other projects, including those using InstantCommons, might be using the file even though they don't show up in the global usage. Deleting the redirects would break their file references. Please see this section of the file rename guideline for more information.
  • Please know and follow the file rename guidelines.

Moebius strips[edit]

Hi KSFT. Following your edit here, could you please point out some of the entries in Category:Recycling symbols (3 arrows - folded) that aren't Moebius strips? They all seem to fit the topology from what I can tell... --Waldir talk 21:25, 14 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Waldir: File:Antu_albumfolder-user-trash.svg, File:Ambox deletion recycle.svg, and File:Emoji u267b.svg are three that are not Möbius strips. They are similar, in that they are non-orientable loop shapes with one edge, but they have an extra twist. Notice the difference between File:Recycle mini.png and File:Recycle001.svg. The first one has a single half-twist and is a Möbius strip. The second one has three and is not one. KSFT (talk) 22:19, 14 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, got it. That's subtle :) I'll create a subcategory for those, then. I think it's important to point out this difference, as well as to place the proper Moebius strips under the corresponding category. --Waldir talk 11:05, 16 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Your VFC installation method is deprecated[edit]

Hello KSFT, we are aware that using the old installation method of VFC (via common.js, which you are using) may not work reliably anymore and can break other scripts as well. A detailed explanation can be found here. Important: To prevent problems please remove the old VFC installation code from your common.js and instead enable the VFC gadget in your preferences. Thanks! --VFC devs (q) 16:23, 22 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Important message for file movers[edit]

A community discussion has been closed where the consensus was to grant all file movers the suppressredirect user right. This will allow file movers to not leave behind a redirect when moving files and instead automatically have the original file name deleted. Policy never requires you to suppress the redirect, suppression of redirects is entirely optional.

Possible acceptable uses of this ability:

  • To move recently uploaded files with an obvious error in the file name where that error would not be a reasonable redirect. For example: moving "Sheep in a tree.jpg" to "Squirrel in a tree.jpg" when the image does in fact depict a squirrel.
  • To perform file name swaps.
  • When the original file name contains vandalism. (File renaming criterion #5)

Please note, this ability should be used only in certain circumstances and only if you are absolutely sure that it is not going to break the display of the file on any project. Redirects should never be suppressed if the file is in use on any project. When in doubt, leave a redirect. If you forget to suppress the redirect in case of file name vandalism or you are not fully certain if the original file name is actually vandalism, leave a redirect and tag the redirect for speedy deletion per G2.

The malicious or reckless breaking of file links via the suppressredirect user right is considered an abuse of the file mover right and is grounds for immediate revocation of that right. This message serves as both a notice that you have this right and as an official warning. Questions regarding this right should be directed to administrators. --Majora (talk) 21:36, 7 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
